The Transfiguration class was finally dismissed for today, Griseldis gathered her books and school supplies back into her leather backpack and rushed down to the moving stairs. This time she was quite careful while walking down the enchanted stairs, unlike in the past where she often lost balance due to her "hard-to-cure" clumsiness and there were a few times she almost fell from the stairs, luckily the ghosts were always around to alert students who were nearby or House-elves to save her from falling. She shivered at the memories and shooked her head to try to forget it. "Focus! You need to be careful now, Gris! Don't be clumsy!", she whispered quietly to herself.

Once Griseldis reached the second floor "safely" without any accidents happen, she let out a relief sign then smiled proudly to herself that she made it to the corridors. Her stomach suddenly growled loudly that caught a few students' attention in the hallway, some giggled and some whispered to each other. Griseldis quickly apologized, scratching the back of her head with a sheepish smile, "Hahaha...sorry, my bad...hahaha...just ignore me please...", fortunately, the students seemed to be busy and hurried on their way to their destination. Again, Grisedlis let out another relief sign, "Good good, I guess it's time to have some snacks before going to the library then. Thank Merlin, I packed a few Cauldron Cakes in my backpack, hopefully, they're not squished already." With that being said, she looked for an empty spot and found a one on the left side where there was sunlight glimmering through the stone window. Griseldis walked towards the spot and sat on the sills. She placed her backpack beside her then took out something that was wrapped in a red handkerchief with Scottish pattern design and placed it in front of her. Griseldis licked her upper lips while unwrapping the handkerchief and it revealed four Cauldron Cakes. "Oh, finally! I can't wait to take a big bite of the Cauldron Cake, haven't had these for a while now." The hungry Gryffindor Prefect first rubbed her hands and picked one Cauldron cake. Right after she took a bite of it she moaned in delight, "Mmmm~ It's sooooo tasty!"

The Cauldron Cake was one of the most popular wizarding cake variants, it didn't take long until someone got lured by the sweet aroma of the delicious wizarding cake.

Opeila was sitting on a windowsill near the enchanted stairs and read in a charms book.
She still had a hard time concentrating, she just couldn't take her mind of all the things that had recently messed up her life. It had all come at once, catching her off guard, so it was not surprising that her grades were down. Now it was time to catch up with schoolwork and it annoyed her, that she couldn't concentrate. If she went on like this she could as well follow her dad's wishes and drop out of Hogwarts.
Again she tried to concentrate, but she read the same paragraph ten times and still couldn't remember it's content, and then a second class transfiguration class came down the stairs, chatting and excited to get to the great hall for lunch.
That was it. Opeila closed her book and sighed. She thought about going into the great hall as well, when a Gryffindor girl sat on a windowsill a few meters away from her and unwrapped four cauldron cakes. Soon Opeila could smell them.
The Slytherin couldn't help but find the way the girl talked to herself weird, but she still decided to talk to her. She seemed like a happy person- something Opeila could really use after the last few days.
"That smells really good.", she said to the Gryffindor. "Where did you get them from?" Opeila smiled. "Opeila Seilun, first year Slytherin."

While she was enjoying her Cauldron Cake, she noticed a young Slytherin girl walking towards her. She had long wavy brown hair and her eyes were like a pair of emeralds. The girl looked quite young,  a bit small and skinny in her opinion, perhaps a first-year student?

When she said the smell of the Cauldron Cakes were really good, Griseldis didn't expect that the Wizarding cakes had such strong aroma and already lured someone. Even though, she didn't mind if people suddenly approach her but it was pretty impressive. "Yes! Not only it smells good, but the cake also tastes very delicious." Griseldis said with a gleeful smile on her face. Then the brunette Slytherin asked her where she got the Cauldron Cakes and introduced herself as Opeila Seilun to her afterward. "Oh, and I'm Griseldis Edelhardt, you can just call me Gris by the way, second-year Gryffindor and Prefect." No wonder the Slytherin girl didn't know, she was indeed a first-year student, still very new to how things work in Hogwarts. Griseldis quickly finished her first Cauldron Cake, then continued to explain where she got these wizarding cakes, "Well, Opeila, do you know that you can actually ask the House-elves to bring you desserts? Of course, you need to ask them nicely then they will happily bring the desserts or snacks you want. And the best thing is, you can get it for free. Otherwise, we need to be a third-year to gain access to Hogsmeade and buy Cauldron Cake or other wizarding treats from Honeydukes with our own money."

A sudden idea came to her mind since she was in a very good mood and felt generous at the moment. The Gryffindor Prefect picked up a Cauldron Cake and handed it to the young brunette, "Would you like to eat Cauldron Cakes with me here? I have enough to share."

Opeila smiled, when the Gryffindor girl also started to praise the taste of the cauldron cakes. "They look good as well!", Opeila said, looking at them curiously. "I've never had one. Until a few months ago, my father made sure to keep me far away from every kind of magic. What is the green stuff on top?"

The Gryffindor girl then introduced herself to Opeila. "Nice to meet you, Gris.", she answered.
She listened to Gris as she told Opeila that she could ask house-elves to get her snacks and desserts. "Is that true? I never knew that!" That was an info she would definitly share with Amy, if she didn't know yet. "Thank you for telling me that. I've heard that I could find the house-elves in the kitchen, but I could never find the kitchen though. I guess I'll look for it again."
She sat down on the windowsill next to Gris, who now offered to share her cauldron cakes with the Slytherin. Surprised Opeila looked at the Gryffindor. Yes, she did start to like Gris. "Are you sure?", she asked and took the cauldron cake the other girl handed to her. "I'd feel bad to steal your lunch from you."

Before inviting the brunette to join her, she first asked what the green stuff was on the Cauldron Cake, "Oh, well...honestly, none of us will know what the green stuff is made of. I once asked a baker who baked Cauldron Cakes before, he said it's a secret but we shouldn't worry about it, it's still edible." Griseldis told Opeila with a reassuring smile. And after introducing themselves, the Slytherin girl, Opeila seemed to have a gentle feature, calm and innocent. So far, the Slytherins she met until today, none of them were like what the stories said about most Slytherins being entitled due to their Pure-blood status. Some could be kind, some could be enthusiastic and some could be shy. It really didn't matter which house they were in, everyone was different and unique in their own ways.

Not to her surprise, when she told Opeila about how they could get snacks or desserts from the House-elves, she reacted like how most first-year students would react of this knowledge. Then she said she heard about they could go into the kitchen. Griseldis shook her head and began to explain, "About that, only staff and the House-elves can enter the kitchen, no students are allowed. However, I can give you a bit of advice on how you can find one of the House-elves. They usually will clean the dorm rooms and the common rooms during lunch breaks or dinner when most students were at the Great Hall. Or if you're lucky enough, you might be able to encounter a few House-elves in the corridors during early mornings before classes begin."

She was certain Opeila would understand and listen to her advice and watched as the brunette sat on the windowsill beside her. Griseldis was glad that she accepted her invitation, it was obvious that Opeila was surprisingly happy and that made the Gryffindor Prefect happy too, she nodded, "Yes, I am very sure. I enjoy sharing food with people instead of eating it alone." Opeila took the Cauldron Cake from her hand but still looked a bit unsure and thought that it was her lunch, "Lunch? I already had lunch, these are just afternoon snacks. Just take a bite and enjoy, Opeila."

Gris told the Slytherin, that probably no one knew what the green stuff was made of, since the baker kept it a secret.
Opeila smiled and tried not to show how uncomfortable she was with trying something she didn't know, that was placed into something that looked like a cauldron. Even if it was a cauldron made of cake. Opeila had bad experiences with unknown potions. Had the potion, that knocked out her mother, been green as well? It probably was a good thing, she didn't know. "Well, I guess I'll just try it then!", she said.

Again the Slytherin just listened, when the Gryffindor prefect told her, that only staff and houselfs could enter the kitchen, but no students. Houselfs would usually be found cleaning the dorms and common rooms during the meals, or sometimes, when one was lucky, early in the morning. Opeila had never seen one, and she had missed a lot of meals. But then, she hadn't been in the dorms...
She was not surprised, that students didn't have access to the kitchen. "That makes sense. If students could get in the kitchen, it would always be full of students looking for an afternoon snack. Thanks for your help!", she said.

Opeila chuckled, when the Gryffindor said that she liked to share food with others. "That is rare! Most people I know would defend their food with their lifes."
She also was relieved, that this really wasn't the Gryffindor's lunch.
Opeila finally took a bite of her very first cauldron cake. She smiled at the Gryffindor and held up one thumb.

Opeila's smile seemed to look a bit forced after Griseldis told her that no one knew what the green stuff on the Cauldron Cake really was. She didn't blame her though because pretty much anyone would be not comfortable with the fact that they ate an unknown substance. But it was a wizarding cake, so it should be normal to wizard kinds that it would contain magical elements of surprise. Speaking about surprise, the young Slytherin girl did bravely decide to try the Cauldron Cake despite still being suspicious of the green substance.

She also seemed to be very understanding when Griseldis told her that the rumors weren't true and that only the staff members and the House-elves were allowed to enter the kitchen. Opeila was certainly a polite person, and thanked her for the information. "You're welcome, Opeila. Although, I do think it would be lovely if Hogwarts would allow students to use the kitchen because I'm sure a lot of people would love to bake or cook." Griseldis said and deep down she did hope that Hogwarts could at least create another kitchen mainly for students to use. Sure, having food and desserts always magically appeared or cooked by the House-elves were great but it would give them a nice opportunity to cook or bake their homemade recipes.

And when Griseldis told her that she loved sharing food with people, she was a bit confused as Opeila chuckled at her answer and said that it was quite rare for someone to share food and that most people she knew would defend their own food. "Really? Well, back in my hometown when my Chinese relatives came to visit my family, it was a tradition to share food and desserts to express family love. Even during my time at the Muggle Primary school, me and my Muggle friends always eat lunch together and we used to share our snacks." It was indeed a great feeling at that time and Griseldis couldn't help but smile fondly at the memories. She then looked up to watch Opeila finally took a bite of her Cauldron Cake, was slightly nervous if she would dislike the taste but to her relief, the Slytherin girl liked it and gave her a thumbs up. "Oh, it looks like you like it. I'm glad." Griseldis said with a genuine smile. She then went back to finish eating her own Cauldron Cake and after that, she licked the green substance that kind of tasted like green apples mixed with a bit mint off from her index finger and her thumb.

"So, Opeila, if you don't mind me asking. What do you think about Hogwarts so far? Are you settling well here?" Griseldis asked the young Slytherin out of curiosity. It would be interesting to know the opinion of a new first-years student about Hogwarts.

The Gryffindor said that it would be a great thing if students would be allowed to enter the kitchen, since many would probably love to cook or bake. Opeila nodded, thinking about that. "Maybe this has hygienic reasons.", she said and shrugged. "I wouldn't be surprised." She knew, that her father would accept her help when he was cooking, but when she had friends over when she was small, he would not let them near the stove. Some people would call it taking care that the children didn't get hrt, but Opeila knew that her father had always been just as afraid, that some dirt or bacteria could get into his precious meals.

Gris told her about her hometown, where her chinese family used to share their food and about her friends in primary school sharing their snacks. "That sounds nice. Where do you come from? We used to share food when we were still all at nursery, but in primary school, everyone would protect his food like a wild animal." The Slytherin chuckled a little. "It's good to see that it isn't like that everywhere."
The prefect seemed relieved that Opeila liked the Cauldron Cake. Had she been scared? It wasn't like Opiel would have blamed the Gryffindor if she hadn't liked the taste.

Then Gris asked her what Opeila thought about Hogwarts so far. Difficult question. Very difficult. Opeila decided to just tell the second year about her opinion of the castle, not her experiences so far. "It is huge. I have never seen a place like this in my life before. I didn't know that it existed before I got my letter and it is... overwhelming. I love the Common Room and the library", she said and smiled at the Gryffindor.

The young Slytherin seemed to have another opinion about why the students were not allowed in the kitchen was due to hygienic reasons. "Perhaps, but you're not wrong since we're still kids and most kids love making a mess in the kitchen and I'm sure it'll be a huge headache for the Kitchen Elves." Griseldis chuckled at the thought, she could totally imagine if that happened and how the Kitchen Elves get super annoyed and angry with students who try their best to cook or bake but cause a lot of chaos instead of the kitchen. It also reminded her how she wasn't allowed to enter the kitchen alone in her mom's Chinese restaurant but it was more due to safety reasons thought.

Then Opeila asked her where was she from, "Oh, I'm from Bridgwater, it's a market town and civil parish in Somerset, England. What about you? Where are you from?" Griseldis was also curious and wanted to know where the young Slytherin girl used to live. She later chuckled with her when Opeila told her how the kids from her primary school would be very territorial towards their own food instead of sharing. "Well, I guess everyone in other places is kinda different."

When Griseldis asked Opeila what she thought about Hogwarts so far, the question itself seemed to be a bit difficult for the young Slytherin to answer and needed a few moments to think about it but it wasn't that long. Opeila just replied that Hogwarts was a huge castle, well, that was obvious, most people would even get lost in Hogwarts to the point that it was normal. "Hogwarts is indeed very huge! When I first enrolled here, me and my friends got lost a lot of times...oh, you like the common room? I don't know what the Slytherin common room looks like but I do know you have a giant squid there which is totally wicked! Our Gryffindor common room looks very cozy and we have a big fireplace. And yes, I love the Hogwarts library too! Oh! The Great Lake is one of my favorite places to visit though, I often practice my martial arts there or just hang out with my best friend by the lake and talk about everything."

Noticing there were two Cauldron Cakes left, Griseldis looked up at Opeila with a smile and said, "Opeila, there are still two Cauldron Cakes left, you can eat one more and I'll eat the other one."

Opeila snorted when Gris mentioned the poor kitchen-elves. "Exactly. It would be a mess. You think that would go beyond the elves' love for work?", Opeila asked, "From what I've heard, they don't mind working. But there are knives in the kitchen and hot cauldrons and pots..." Surely Hogwarts would watch their students better than Opeila's primary shool did, still, the first year still did not want to be close to knives and other kids at once anymore. Not after the muggle kids accused her on cutting someone and the teachers believed it. Of course, who would believe her story about the bush turning to stone, that still sounded ridiculous in her own ears.

"I'm from Cambridge. Quite pretty city that is.", she said smiling. She indeed loved the buildings, she just wished that she had nicer memories to conect them with.

Opeila was glad when Gris changed the topic to the common room. "The common room is amazing! It is quite cozy when you are the sort of person who likes darker colours. Everything is green, even the light, because of the lake. The only bad thing is that I can never concentrate when I do homework in there, watching the lake life is far too interesting. You do martial arts? That is really cool! Can you show me sometime?"

Gris offered her one of the two cauldron cakes left. "You sure? I would give you the money back if I could... Hm... I will really get you something from Hogsmeade once I am able to go there. Thank you.", the Slytherin said, taking one of the cauldron cakes. Her sleeve fell back and the Slytherin's eyes landet on her watch. "Oh my- Is that- Oh wow, I forgot the time really!" Opeila jumped off the window sill and grabbed her bag. "I have class in a minute, I really need to go. It was nice talking to you Gris. Hopefully we can meet again soon! Thank you for the Cauldron Cakes." She held up the little cake again, before quickly runing away.
Opeila left the thread.
