“Tarantallegra!”

The toy skeleton wiggled to life, and its feet began to move, which made Percival believe he’d actually done it right and made the thing dance. But then, much to his unfortunate surprise, the skeleton spun in a wild circle, tripped over its own leg, and fell face-first onto the floor underneath his desk.

Percival sighed in defeat and rubbed his forehead. “Okay… not quite what I wanted." He crouched down to pick it up and set it back on the table again before giving it another good look. The Skeleton's hollow sockets seemed to stare back at him, as if it was mocking him for the failed attempt to cast a spell he already knew.

He had been trying this for the better part of an hour, at this point. His wand arm was starting to ache, and he could feel frustration building within him. Still, he wasn’t ready to give up just yet and forced himself to continue. He wanted to become an Auror one day, just like his father, so he needed to get much better at casting spells. Even something like the dancing feet charm, which seemed harmless and fun, but even this simple spell had its use in duelling.

He had to Master it.

After a long sigh, Percival glanced down at his notes and imitated the wand movement he read on his paper just a few more times. He knew he was getting the incantation right, so it had to go wrong somewhere in the communication between his mind and the movement of his wand. It was time to try again.

“Tarantallegra!”

This time, the skeleton hopped once, then twice, and then finally started dancing some silly little dance. Percival blinked in surprise, then began to grin wide, “Yes!” he exclaimed just a little too loud for an empty classroom, but he could not care less. He had finally gotten it right again.

The grin, however, lasted about three seconds before the skeleton tripped again and fell apart completely. Its skull rolled across the table and hit the floor, right next to the kid's feet. Percival sighed and picked it up again, “You had one job,” he said under his breath as he placed it back onto the desk.

But drawn into his little lesson, he was so focused that he almost missed the sound of footsteps approaching from the corridor. Percival froze for a moment and glanced toward the doorway, wondering who would be joining him.

Maybe, if he was lucky, they hadn’t seen the skeleton’s latest fall.

Kora wasn't normally one to pry into someone else's business specially people younger then her Was he younger than me?. Point was she found herself in a mental dilemma this boy yes definitely younger was clearly doing some independent work and it's really not her place to stick her nose in and watch as he fails a spell over and over but then again the itch to help this boy was strong. So strong she stepped closer to the room he was in pausing for a second.
She took a step into the room lingering in the doorway for a second. Maybe he hasn't seen me? She thought as the moments passed where the boy didn't address her at all in fact he didn't seem to see her for a whole 2 minutes before finally he looked over. Shoot cant leave now can i. So with the confidence of a pebble Kora took one, two, three more steps into the room taking a moment to study the boy and the skeleton.
"Uh Hi I'm Kora Eliot second year nice to meet you um i couldn't help but notice your uh struggling sorry this is probably over stepping some like line". Her words came tumbling out not quickly but still a cascading waterfall of um's and uh's didnt help that her Cornish accent was peaking through her English one with a word or two. Control yourself just breath. It wasn't like she wanted to be this awkward but it was a habbit of hers to make this feel like trying to swallow dry bread with no water. Her mother always said she just needed to come out of that shell of hers but how could she when the world was cold and cruel to those with minds like her.
Today would be different she promised it would be. So with a breath she calmed the storm of worry forming in her mind and waited for the boy to respond.

Percival looked up the moment he finally registered that someone was standing in the doorway. His shoulders tensed at first because he hadn’t expected anyone to walk in, but when he saw the girl hovering there with a nervous look on her face, the tension eased almost instantly. He blinked once, then offered a small, warm smile as he straightened up.

“Hi there,” he said before brushing his hands off on his robes and stepping a little away from the table. “I’m Percival. It’s nice to meet you, too.”

Her rambling didn’t bother him at all, either. In fact, it made him feel a bit less embarrassed about the skeleton falling apart for the eighth time today. If she wasn’t laughing, then he really didn’t mind her seeing it. “And you’re not overstepping or anything. Really, I was just practicing a little.”

He then glanced at the toy skeleton on the table, whose skull wobbled slightly to one side as if it still hadn’t forgiven him. “Well… trying to practice,” he added with a chuckle.

He shifted his grip on his wand and looked back at her, “Did... you want to help? Or maybe practice with me? I’d love to have some company.” He was also hoping to make more friends, and this seemed as good a time as any.

She seemed nice.
