Badger Bamboozling
Coming to Hogwarts was a million times easier for Atlas seeing as she had her best friend Ethen along for the ride. They had shared a cabin on the train over and thankfully they were both sorted into Hufflepuff so they weren't ever far from one another. Atlas had been inseparable from Ethen ever since they were little. On her first excursion ever to Mozambique, Atlas had met the young boy quickly taunting him with pranks and jump scares at any moment she could. Their parents had been friends for several years so it was only fitting that they became close.
Their families had taken several trips together and even had a whole London Day when both the children needed to get all their school supplies. Now with a moment to finally breathe and settle in, Atlas had written to Ethen in their secret code telling him to meet her at the Great Lake.

They had been writing in pig pen for years, and although the message wasn't super secret it always made Atlas feel extra sneaky and cool when she got to send messages that couldn't be read by wandering eyes.
The air outside was crisp and breezy as the sun was perfectly placed in the center of the sky. There were small cohorts of kids either working on homework, gossiping or running around but as Atlas hauled a large duffle bag on her back she prayed that no one would stop to ask her questions. She could feel the shovels and makeup clanging around in the bag as she chuckled biting down on her lip as her mischievous mind wanded to all the ideas she had concocted for today's meeting.
The ground was significantly more mushy and sloshy as she got closer to the water's edge and part of her just wanted to spring right into the water to see if she could see the supposed giant squid lurking in the depths, but that was an adventure for another day. Throwing her duffle bag on the ground, Atlas pulled out a blanket and laid it across the grass to try and alleviate the amount of mud she was sure to track in on her clothes as she shuffled through the bag scrunching her face as she tried to figure out how they would hide the hole.
Maybe the blanket can just lay over the giant pile of dirt... Atlas mumbled to herself as her eyes shifted to the hapless passerbys. Oh what a day they would be in store for. Where is Ethen...That Tebo better not be sleeping...if he isn't here in 3 minutes and umm 4 seconds I'm gonna fill his bed with mud and earthworms...Atlas grumbled as she reached back into her bag and pulled out a bag of chocolate chip cookies as she happily nommed them watching as the wind danced through the long blades of grass.

Badger Bamboozling
Ethen had spent nearly the entirety of the morning planted on a bench in the Great Hall enjoying every morsel of food he could muster. It had been perhaps his favorite thing about being in the new school. The endless and delicious food that seemed to forever populate the tables of the hall seemed like a heaven for the young boy. He had always had an appetite but never before had he been in a place that could actually fill it. But he knew he couldn’t spend the entirety of his day wasted away filling his face.
Upon returning to his dorm, he found a small note sitting on his bed that immediately piqued his interest. Opening it up and revealing a series of perplexing symbols, Ethen immediately began to smile. So busy with settling in, he hadn’t been able to spend as much time with his childhood friend as he would have hoped. Atlas Reid and her family were long family friends of his own parents so he had spent copious time with the little witch. When they found out they would be going to the same school, Ethen was secretly ecstatic.
Squinting at the pigpen symbols Ethen immediately slipped the note in his pocket and pulled a sweatshirt over his head before hurrying out of the room. It always felt so mischevious to communicate in code and it had been a perfect way for them to avoid the detection of their curious parents.
Emerging from the castle into the brisk air was immediately refreshing to Ethen and his eyes quickly scanned the many other students bustling around the grounds. Ethen wasn’t exactly sure what his friend had planned but when it came to Atlas, Ethen was sure mischief wasn’t far behind and he would make sure that he didn’t miss out on the action.
Hurrying down towards the lake, Ethen had no time to speak with all the rest of the students. Not that he knew any of them anyways. Sloshing through the damp ground, Ethen could recognize a familiar blonde-haired girl only a short distance away. Glancing to the lake, Ethen wondered what manner of creature might be hiding out there. Atlas had told him that there was a demon squid that ate young students. He assumed it was a lie but the possibility was still unnerving to him as he got closer to the water’s edge.
"Hey Rice Monkey!" Ethen called out towards the familiar girl with a smirk. "You better have a good reason for making me hike all the way out here. I was enjoying some perfectly good pancakes with like...berries and everything. Like they were so delicious and...." Cutting himself off as he spoke. Looking down at his now muddy shoes, Ethen slightly frowned as he arrived at the girls side eager to hear what her bundle of supplies were for.

"I should have known you'd be by the food," Atlas replied as she rolled her eyes finishing off the last of her cookies as she crumbled the bag into the side pocket of the duffle. "You better hope the child-eating squid in this lake doesn't smell the berry pancakes all over you and decide to take you with him into the dark abyss." She taunted as she raised an eyebrow hoping he still believed her tale. "But now that you are FINALLY here, I have a killer plan for the day! Well more like a half plan but I figured you'd have some ideas to make it even better Tebo. So here's what I got so far. We pitch up this blanket with this stick to make a sorta makeshift tent just to block everyone's view as we dig this hole either like 'here' or closer to this bush and then you'll hide partially in the hole and we can like put stuff over you and then when people come over you will jump out and scare them!" Atlas revealed all in one breath, her smile spreading to the edges of her face. She hadn't fully figured out how to get people to come over to their area but she was more of a big picture person while Ethen was helpful with flushing out the plans and making sure everything went as smoothly as possible.
"Sooooo what do you think Tebo?" Atlas inquired. It wasn't the most creative idea she had ever come up with but they had just arrived at Hogwarts so she would need some more time to walk around the castle and grounds to really get her creative juices flowing.

“Always the food! Not my fault that my tummy is always yelling at me to fill it,” Ethen complained as he rubbed his ever hungry stomach. His eyes widened at the mention of the man eating squid but he tried to play it cool not wanting to show Atlas that he was at all nervous about a potential fifty foot monster with a particular liking for the taste of young ones. “I had waffles thank you very much!” he boasted at the small girl standing before him. However, as soon as Atlas began to describe her plan Ethen knew they would be in for something exciting and gleefully listened.
Even when they were younger Ethen tended to leave the plans to Atlas who had a certain talent for creative mischief. Being burried in a whole wasn’t how he planned to spend the day but he didn’t exactly want to give up the potential opportunity to do some top level spooking. “Commander Atlas! I am ready to be in the hole. Lets get digging! I was born to be a tunneler,” Ethen said with feined confidence.
Not wasting any time, Ethen began fumbling with the tent and propped up the makeshift item. It required a nice firm stick but the lake had provided plenty all over the shore. Once it was erected, Ethen slid into the tight quarters of the tent. Using a smaller stick, he began to dig their makeshift pit already feeling excited about the terrified faces of their fellow students who were unfortunate enough to pass them by.
