The fact that Graci’s home was directly above her family’s bookstore made Rosaline wonder what that would feel like. She thought it might be like having a home library, but you could talk with a lot of different people who loved books. Noticing a cute cat followed them down the stairs, Rosaline asked, “Aww, what a cutie. What’s its name?” Her eyes lit up with her love for cats. She continued, “I have a black cat at home, too. She’s pretty naughty.” She couldn’t help but smile as the mess Golden would make appeared in her imagination. Then she realized that she was going to be apart from her favorite cat. But she could still meet Golden on holiday. She cheered herself up a little and dismissed the thought.
Graci’s answer to her question was really sincere. Rosaline replied, “It must be full of things to explore. I heard that the castle was so big, and the grounds around it are huge, with forests and a lake.” She said it all in one breath, her face flushed slightly. She hoped Graci wouldn’t think she was being too talkative.
The last customer went out of the store. Graci and Rosaline wandered around freely. “I think you must be a good Gryffindor,” she said with a smile to Graci, then continued. “I might be sorted into Ravenclaw or Slytherin because my family members were all in these houses. But I’d love whatever house I’m sorted into. I can relate to you! I have the same problem that I don’t know if I can fit in or not.” Her brows furrowed, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. Yet she wasn’t that bad at social skills, so it should be alright, she thought. “But if Hogwarts students are all nice like you, I think there won’t be any problem,” she beamed.
Sunlight broke through the clouds. The rain seemed to have already stopped. Water droplets still clung to the window. She noticed that a man was organizing the store. It must be Graci’s dad. As they walked past him, she greeted him gently, “Hello, sir. I hope you have a good day, and I love your bookstore!” She hoped this wasn’t too abrupt; she wanted to make a good impression on everyone. That was her inclination, though one might call it either a good one or a bad one.
“Wow, you have a sister. Is she around today?” She looked around for Graci’s sister, but didn’t see anyone who resembled her. “I think sorting really is a difficult thing because there are so many traits one could share with four houses. One can be ambitious but also intelligent. I wonder if the Sorting Hat ever met with someone it couldn’t decide,” she mused.
The topic shifted to books. “When I read those weighty books, I often find myself unable to get through them on the first attempt. Yet upon a second reading, I can’t put them down. ‘The Hobbit’ was like that for me,” she chuckled, happy to share the reading experience with Graci.
She couldn’t believe what an added bonus it was. She would not only attend the greatest wizarding school in the UK, but there would also be a Halloween ball. A BALL! Her eyes glinted with excitement. “Wow, there will be a ball. That’s amazing!” she exclaimed joyfully. She thought her cousins had told her everything about Hogwarts, but apparently, they hadn’t told her this.

date place tags wc speech outfits 21/07/25 The Gilded Margin @Graci Laren 626/200 #36563c xxxRosaline’s gaze followed the cute cat as Graci explained the cat’s name, Terpsichore. A name she had heard somewhere, it sounded familiar. Then Graci soon mentioned it was from Greek mythology. “It is a lovely name, and I think the name of a goddess of dance and chorus is so suitable for an elegant cat,” she said with a bright smile. She replied to Graci’s remark, “Definitely, I had to save my cat once when I was little. I floated down from the second floor of my home to the ground. That incident was my first instance of magic. I can’t forget that day, to be honest.” When she recalled the thrilling but also nostalgic memory, a faint smile played upon her lips. It was quite a rare experience for her to talk about her first magical moment to a girl who was around her age. She hadn’t known many magical friends. That was why she was excited to attend Hogwarts.
Her eyes widened when Graci said how enormous the castle was. “I wish I could go on many adventures but not get in any trouble,” she chuckled. “I always wonder what creatures live beneath the lake. And the first boat ride must be a lot of fun.” Her tone carried a hint of curiosity, yet she had no idea what she would face on her first day. Rosaline felt relieved when Graci assured her that whatever house she would be sorted into, it would be the best fit for her. She showed a relaxed expression to Graci and said, “Thank you for saying this. I shall listen to you.”
Graci’s father appeared quite absorbed in tidying the bookshelves, merely waving at her in greeting. Rosaline thought he might just want to leave the conversation to the two girls. Without giving it much thought, she returned her attention to the topic they were discussing, Graci’s sister and the book. “I see!” She was still a bit curious about what Zoe might be like, yet she ought not to delve into it. Her observation skills had always been rather sharp; noticing that Graci seemed not to want to say more about her sister, she swiftly steered the conversation back to the subject of books.
“I might be the opposite of you. Heavy books always lure me in, especially those very long series. I agree with you about the wordy books. They require my full concentration; one careless moment might mean missing so many details. But I quite like the challenging reading if I have time to read them,” she said thoughtfully, her brows furrowed into a more serious look. Whenever she talked about books and reading, she tended to describe them with more thought.
In Graci’s words, the ball held a mystique for her. Her eyes lit up when she heard there would be two balls, one in the spring, one in the fall. While she wanted to inquire more about the ball, her phone rang. She gave a sheepish smile to Graci and said, “Sorry, I think I need to take this call.” She walked to a corner so she wouldn’t disturb others. She picked it up. It was her father. He was back home from work now, and he was wondering where she had been. Okay, the adventure time today was over, she thought.
She came back to the spot where the two girls had been chatting after she finished the call. “It seems like I've got to go home now. Thank you for lending me the rescue towel, and I had a great time talking with you!” She clutched her bags and headed out of the bookstore. Before she pushed open the door, she turned back to bid farewell joyfully, “See you at Hogwarts!”
