If the library was alive, it could probably tell quite a few stories.

Rose had spent hours and hours at this very table researching. It was a table next to one of the windows, meaning she could hear the rhythm of raindrops on a rainy day and study in the sunbeams of a brighter day. Every book in the library about animagi that Rose could get her hands on had been on this specific table as the redhead immersed herself in research. Maybe because she didn't want to talk to anyone, or because she didn't know how to explain herself, or maybe because she was so set on proving that she didn't need anyone else, Rose had been determined to do this task by herself. Of course, she had help from the Transfiguration professor, but that had been mostly out of obligation. She knew that she had to be registered in order to be an animagus, and she didn't have access to all of the ingredients one needed in order to complete the process.

And now, a year and a half later, Rose was doing something similar- researching. She wasn't as determined to push everyone away anymore, but she supposed that was part of grief. Learning, healing, changing. And this time, the research was much less obsessive in nature. There weren't piles and piles of books on the table, just a select couple that she was reading and cross-referencing. She wasn't pouring her whole being into this to distract herself from her own thoughts. She was actually, genuinely only reading for the fun of it, and it was a much better feeling. And she wasn't researching animagi anymore. She was researching magical creatures.

They fascinated her. All their properties and personalities and nuances. Each creature, even inside its own species, was unique and interesting, and despite all the information they knew about creatures, the study of magical creatures was relatively quite young. Magizoology had only been around for around a hundred years, with the first notable magizoologist being Newt Scamander. There was still so much to research and learn and discover about all the magical creatures in the world. She had enjoyed Care of Magical Creatures class thoroughly the past four years, and she couldn't wait until her whole life was learning about them and caring for them.

While at the very start of the school year, Rose had been intimidated by her future, she had soon come to realize all that her future could hold, and that included spending every waking moment with magical creatures.

However, you didn't have to be a sentient library to know that Rose spent quite a lot of her afternoons in the library at this table, reading or studying by herself or with friends. And you didn't have to be a sentient library to know that Rose was successful in her quest to become an animagus, either, though very few people knew that for sure. It wasn't exactly a secret, since Rose hadn't told anyone not to say anything, but it wasn't exactly well-known either, since Rose had only told less than ten people, including her family. But whether they knew about it or just thought she may be a good person to ask, Rose would soon be approached by someone with questions about the very subject Rose had poured her whole being into a year and a half ago.

Siobhan was griping over a book in the library. Now this was a peculiarity for her. Books were one of the things she absolutely adored in life since they culd bring her places that her feet physically could not. Though since her accident, she had needed to learn a brand new language to keep her adventures from being halted.

But this language, Braille, was something that was challenging for her. There wasn't another student that she was aware of that could really help her with learning the language itself. There weren't any professors that were fluent or had the time to take out of their schedule to tutor her. It was frustrating that she was struggling to learn on her own nowadays. The access to accessable books was lacking for her and thus she had read and re-read the same three books she had that were accessable to her over and over.

What a boring library adventure.

Siobhans sighed, realizing there wasn't much use in trying to force her mind to focus on what her fingers were interpreting. She would rather go back to the Greenhouses and nuture the plants for a few hours before Dinner. At least that was something that she could do without the frustration of not being able to see. The chomping cabbages were mostly self-sufficient besides needing to be fed. She liked giving them carrots even if the darned things were more interested in her ankles and her fingers than the root veggies they where supposed to be eating.

As she gathered her things she could hear someone had gone and occupied one of the seats next to her. If she was careful, she would be able to navigate her way out of the library without knocking into whoever it was that had sat next to her or-

Siobhan hissed loudly as her foot collided with the heavy wood of the chair that someone had pulled out. She hopped slightly and ended up falling over as she tried to grasp her balance and not fall. But unfortunately she had which made a terribly loud noise and crash. Her head, foot, and back hurt quite a bit as she crumpled into a ball from the pain that she was in.

Of course- it wasn't anything too injury producing, but it did hurt. She sat up and looked towards where she had fallen from and in a shaky voice spoke in a quiet, yet still slightly hissy tone of voice.

"I'm sorry for knocking into you... I'm not able to see and your chair is pulled too far back from the table." Siobhan explained quietly as she tried to both apologize, and educate the person who had unfortunately witnessed her enemy of the chair bring her too her knees.

Siobhan started feeling around on the ground to ensure that she hadn't dropped any of her books, or the few braille copies that she did have of her textbooks. Heaven forbid she lost one of those- her parents would be quite cross with her if she managed to lose the expensive copies of the books that she needed to re-purchase.

Her nimble fingers gently grazed over the books in her bag, trying to identify which ones were still in her possession and which ones may still be out of her reach. She huffed lightly as she noticed that her book on Intermediate Charms was missing. Quietly, she kept fumbling around for the copy.

She was not about to inconvienence whoever it was moreso then she already had. But after another few seconds, she sighed and looked up in the direction of where the chair had been. Nervously she pushed her hair back behind her ear and spoke in an embarrassed tone.

"Is there a book with some bumps and dots across the cover? It's mine and I can't... I can't find it." she asked as her face flushed in approximate nervousness.

Rose had been enjoying her quiet library time when suddenly, someone knocked into her chair. The redhead's green eyes widened in shock as the girl fell to the ground. "Oh Merlin, are you okay?" she asked quickly, standing up carefully from her seat. The girl curled into a ball, clearly hurting from the fall but able to sit up a couple of moments later. Rose was glad the library was fairly empty, because nobody, except for the redhead herself, had turned to look at the girl's tumble. Rose knew that if she had tripped like that, she wouldn't want anyone fussing over her.

The girl, once sat up, then explained that she couldn't see very well and that Rose's chair was pulled too far back. Rose looked at her chair, and blinked. It almost sounded like the girl was blaming her, but perhaps that was the lioness' pride talking. She knew a couple of years ago, if she had been in this same situation, she would have snapped back defensively, but Rose knew now that wasn't really going to help anything. "I'm sorry, I didn't know," she said, which was true. She hadn't known her chair placement could be a hazard, but she supposed it would be good to keep it in mind for the future. Rose knew that there were some people at the school with disabilities, but she had never really interacted with any of them before. She wondered how visual impairments worked at Hogwarts- she must have a much harder time identifying spells and learning wand movements, and writing essays for homework had to be a beast. Rose, who often found visual and concrete examples very helpful in learning, didn't know what she would do if she couldn't see. She supposed she would not really have a choice than to find another way to learn, and it seemed by the girl's books that she was doing just that.

The girl pushed her hair behind her ear, and asked if she had seen a book fall out. It was then that Rose recognized her- she was a duelist, though a few years younger. Trying to remember her name through the shock of the encounter, Rose looked around, spying the book that had fallen under the table with braille on the front. "Accio book," she murmured, and the tome flew into her hands. "Yes, is this it? It's..." Rose was about to describe the book to the girl- its color, the style- but then realized these descriptors would not be helpful to her at all. "...here." She crouched down, placing the book into the girl's hands. "I'm Rose, by the way. I believe we're on the same dueling team, but I don't think we've officially met," she said, her voice friendly and soft. She wondered if the girl recognized her voice or her name. "Do you need any help getting up?"

The somewhat familiar voice of Rose made it's way into her ears. She had definitely heard the voice before but it was not one that she was accustomed to speaking with on a daily basis. They were indeed on the same dueling team, though separated by skill and age. Siobhan accepted the friendly offer to help her up and she felt a flush appear across her nose and cheeks as she felt embarrassed for having chastised an upperclassman.

"I apologize Rose. I did not mean for my words to come across as mean. I only meant to caution. I don't wish for pity, only to stay on my feet more so than the floor. My name is Siobhan. Sorry-" she spoke with an air of embarrassment as she held her hand out, hoping the girl would shake it in a friendly manner. If at all an apology was accepted. She knew that sometimes she wasn't good at speaking and coming across as normal.

Siobhan took the book back from Rose with what she hoped was a polite and thankful smile. She was so thankful that the book had not been lost or destroyed as she would never have been able to have replaced the darned thing. It was a heavy book in her hands, both physically and metaphorically as she thought about what her parents had needed to put aside to afford it. It weighed her down but was necessary for her education.

"May I sit here? I was looking for a quiet place to study. Our dorm room is... loud." Siobhan asked as she tried to remain as kind as possible about the students who resided in the Gryffindor house, but sometimes it was incredibly disorienting to remain aware of what she was studying or what her fingers where reading in the braille. More often than not she had struggled to comprehend what was being asked of her simply because the distractions were too great and she could not find that familiar peace that once come with opening up a book full of information.

The library was where she hid nowadays.

Siobhan hoped Rose wouldn't mind if she joined her. It wasn't often she got to talk to her upperclassmen considering how busy she was with her own schoolwork and research into new methods of recovery. If it wasn't her studying or trying to keep up with her duels, her friends and classes, she was dealing with her stupid dreams. The silver mist that was causing her to elude the night and her dorm room by waking up in random places across the castle. Last night's "adventure" had led her too just outside the kitchens.

That strange silver mist in her dreams was so curious looking that it made her want to follow it. It bounced around, jumping from place to place, curling around her legs and waiting before darting off and forcing her to follow. It was ironic, she didn't want to follow it but in her dreams she could see again. She could almost see the castle once again and it... It was like the mist was playing with her.

She rubbed her eyes slowly as she thought about the mist. She wondered if she was the only student who was ever plagued with sleepwalking and nightly wanders into places she should not be going at night. She hoped Rose wouldn't mind if she took the seat across from her.

Siobhan clarified that she hadn't meant any accusation by cautioning Rose about her chair, and Rose nodded, understanding. She then realized that physical gesture wasn't helpful to Siobhan in the slightest, and agreed verbally instead. "Don't worry about it," she reassured the girl. Siobhan held her hand out, and Rose accepted it, shaking it. "It's good to officially meet you."

The girl then asked if she could join Rose, noting that their common room was loud. A small laugh escaped the seventh year. Didn't she know it. Gryffindors were often a boisterous bunch, especially after a Quidditch game, and Rose had always been a more quiet member of the house. Many of them had helped her loosen up a little, though, and she occasionally enjoyed a common room party or hung out with friends there. But most of the time, the library or the grounds were more her speed. "Of course," the redhead said, her voice carrying amusement over her fellow lion's comment. "I understand your hesitation to want to try to focus there."

As Rose sat back down in her chair and Siobhan took a seat across from her, the redhead looked down at her book again. A picture of a moose-like creature with a huge mouth stared up at her from the page. Leucrottas were less famous beasts, but (not unlike all other beasts), Rose found them fascinating. She hoped one day to be able to meet one and experience its mimicry abilities, though she also hoped she wouldn't have to train it not to eat her.

A noise from across the room drew Rose's attention away, and she looked over to see a student picking up a dropped book, before looking to Siobhan across from her. Rose found herself with a soft smile. She saw herself in this girl a little, which always made for a charming encounter. The refuge of the library was one Rose was long familiar with, coming here to escape all kinds of noise since her first year. It was strangely heartwarming to know that experiences are shared, that no feeling is ever truly unique.

She hoped, at least, she could make this girl feel a little less alone.

"Could I ask what you're studying?" Rose asked, her curiosity finally getting the better of her.

Slightly satisfied that she hadn't offended her housemate, Siobhan took the seat that she was permitted too and began to dig in her bookbag for her Quick Quotes Quill and some parchment. Having found her book that she had been reading from, her thumb grazed across the top looking for the tassels of her book mark so that she could continue to read as she took her notes.

She'd been ever so lucky to come across copies of the research she needed in braille. It was bad enough that she couldn't see but to be locked away from her favorite past time was one of the roughest things about her day. Waking up, blinded and walking to class, still blinded before having to keep up with the rest of her classmates and peers only to feel that she was falling further and further behind.

Her fingers gently grazed the bumps and ridges of the language she was still wildly unfamiliar with as she muttered quietly to her quill about the knowledge she needed on the animals she was considering for her ability.

The hardest part about losing her sight was the fact that she would never regain the ability to see. However that didn't mean she couldn't see without using other parts of her body. It had come to her attention during a Transfiguration class, that there were certain people who possessed the ability to transfer from their human soul into the soul of an animal or where blessed to take the form of their soul or some matter. These people where known as "animagi" and she had been truly captivated since then.

From what little research was open to her with her limited resource of reading material, she had come to discern that this form couldn't replace her visual sight but there would be ways she could supplement the action with the feeling of her hands against the Earth, the way the wind moved against her ears or perhaps fur if she was lucky enough. There were other ways that the animal world was able to "see" and if she could just understand what it is that was separating her from the concept now aside from the complexities of the potion and the process as a whole, perhaps it would give her the answers she needed.

It seemed that her muttering to her Quill had sparked the attention of Rose as the elder lion spoke curiously to her speech pattern, asking what it is she was studying. Siobhan felt her eyes move towards the sound of Rose's voice, fingers stilling if only for a moment as she contemplated how to vocalize her thoughts without coming across as a lunatic.

"I wouldn't say it's studying per se... It's material based on a lesson of Transfiguration I had earlier this week." Siobhan parsed carefully as her Quill rattled against the desk eager to continue its work. "I'm sure you know what it is but I've only just come across the term Animagus and it's weedled its way into my brain. I have to know everything about it and I-"

Siobhan's words faltered as she felt the raving tongue start on it's loose wheel run. She covered her mouth with her hand and turned her head downwards as she chastised herself inwardly for going off like some crazed idiot. She barely knew Rose apart from being on the same duelling team as her and didn't wish to annoy her to the heavens wth her rudimentary understanding of such complex magic. Secondly, the sheer audacity that she had to think she was even capable of accomplishing such a skill was absurd.

Not as absurd as waking up half drowned in the Prefect bathroom. Of which you still have no clue how you got in there t'ou bat... her brain reminded her as she tried to focus on the next paragraph and started feeling about for her quill to strike up the next batch of material notes.

She kept her head down as she muttered an apology.

"I'm sorry for speaking so... excitedly. This is just- This could be something important to me."

At Rose's question of what she was studying, Siobhan seemed to come alive. Rose recognized that look. The girl started to try to explain herself, starting off slow and steadily accelerating as her passion seemed to take over her control. And at the word Animagus, Rose felt herself perk up, hanging on Siobhan's words. She loved to talk about Animagi, endlessly intrigued by people's differing experiences on the same complex process. Sure, for Rose it had been partly a coping mechanism for her grief for her to throw herself into learning everything about it, but with all the coping mechanisms out there, it certainly wasn't the worst, and now she could transform into an animal at will. A pretty cute one, too, not that it mattered that much. But she did feel she had a certain allowance for pride; the process had taken a great deal of dedication. The mandrake leaf had been the hardest part, and Rose knew she didn't eat as much as she should have during that month. (Plus, how did someone even figure out that it took holding a specific kind of leaf in your mouth for a month to attain this ability?) Her green eyes watched Siobhan with intent as she continued to explain she had to know everything about it.

But before Rose could hear the full extent of Siobhan's obsession, the girl stopped herself and forced her head down again. Rose felt her heart sink a little. Maybe it was a good thing to have a little self control when talking about something you were interested in, especially to someone you barely knew, but Rose wished that she would have just ranted about it. There was something charming in watching someone talk about something that interested them, something that Rose didn't often get tired of (unless it was History class).

"You don't have to apologize," Rose reassured the girl, shaking her head. "I don't mind listening. Are there any questions maybe I could answer? I'm... a little bit of an expert on the subject," Rose admitted, a lighthearted laugh bubbling out. A "little bit" was her attempt at being humble. Rose had practically poured herself into studying animagi, not to mention her own personal experience, which she wasn't sure how to bring up without sounding arrogant. "And don't hold back-" she said, remembering how the Gryffindor had ducked her head earlier. "-I promise you won't annoy me with too many questions."

Knowing how open Rose was to answering her questions helped reassure Siobhan that she wasn't going to be lose out on vital information. She took her wand from the slip in her bag and gently tapped her quill to activate it. The plume jerked to life and tickled the underside of her ear as if to inform her that it was ready to listen to her words.

"Well I suppose if you're alright with questions- Let's start with the obvious. What is your animagus?" Siobhan started as she heard the quick chittering noise of her quill striking her question across the parchement and waiting for the answer out of the older Gryffindor. The answer that Rose gave her only drove her to the next few questions; how long does it take? What is the most difficult part in Rose's opinion? How does she use her animagus form?

The older student answered every question with ease and Siobhan could hear the quill running across the paper quickly trying to capture as much of the information that it could capture. Everything that she could learn from as many people as possible would help her decide if the Animagus pathway was something that she should seriously consider taking a path down. Siobhan was on the edge of her seat as she listened to the detail of Rose's journey from fully human to a transformable witch.

To have such a power as that of an Animagus was something that Siobhan hoped would provide her with a replacement for what she had lost in her human form. She wasn't stupid though, she did know that it was something that could backfire or perhaps lead to more disastrous consequences if she was not incredibly thorough.

Her questions turned more towards logistics and advice.

"With collecting the morning dew- how where you able to accomplish this? I'm nervous I'll not be able to collect untouched dew with how bad my eyes are." Siobhan mused as the quill scribbled her own words down. She heard a circling sound and knew that it was her quill circling the question as one of the more important things she needed to know the answer to. She genuinely hoped that it wasn't something that would require a broom for. She hated heights and by extension brooms. A shudder went through her as she remembered a particular detention that dealt with her having to use a broom to clean some windows.

Listening to all of Rose's answers helped Siobhan understand more about the risk that was part of the world of those who managed to accomplish this task. But it wasn't something that she wanted to back down from. There were few options left for her that would give her some semblance of sight again. A route to an Animagus was one of them and if it meant taking a leap off of a cliff she wasn't even close to climbing upwards, then it was something she needed to scale.
