Victoria walked out of the Great Hall with a wide smile on her face. The Sorting Ceremony and following dinner had just ended and she was thrilled to have been sorted into Slytherin. While she couldn't wait to see her new common room and dormitory, there was still some time to mingle before the first-years would be led to their new homes. So she took a deep breath, trying to steady herself from all the excitement, while she looked around the Small Hall. She had been to caught up in the activities of the day and her own racing thoughts when they had entered the Great Hall that she hadn't even noticed the numerous portraits that lined the walls of the Small Hall. Quickly gazing over the paintings, her eyes were immediately drawn to the grand chandelier before moving down to admire the enormous fireplace towards the end of the room.

Before she realized Victoria had starting walking to stand next to the fireplace, finally letting her eyes move to study the other people in the hall. One face in particular caught her eye, a face Victoria had seen many time and had come to know well over the years. "Serena!" she shouted, moving toward the other girl hurriedly and ignoring the looks her shout had earned her from the other students. Once she finally reached her friend she pulled the girl into a hug, "Serena, how are you? I saw you got sorted into Hufflepuff, what do you think?" she took a step back to give her friend some space.

Thoughts flooded her mind. She stared blankly at the portrait in front of her. She didn't know who it was nor did she care. She was just standing there, looking at it as her mind raced with thoughts unrelated to the picture. Serena had recently been sorted. Glancing down, she observed the Hufflepuff emblem that had appeared onto her clothing. The young girl clutched her robes softly. Her initial reaction was happiness. Everyone at the Hufflepuff table seemed so friendly, she thought it would suit her well. That being said, Serena would have been happy with any house. She wasn't one for judging people by their houses. In fact, each of them had such great qualities associated with them that if anything, she respected each person for those qualities.

However, her family were full of people with the personality and traits of Slytherins and Ravenclaws. She was the first to attend Hogwarts but if they had schooled in the UK too then they would have been those two houses. Serena knew that her father would have been most proud if she had gotten into one of those houses but... Hufflepuff? Clutching her robes, she frowned a little as she contemplated if her family would be really disappointed at this result. Perhaps they would.

Serena had left the Great Hall earlier, to wander around a little and think about the situation away from all of the excitement and noise. She had found herself in the Small Hall before she even knew she had made her way here.

The girl stood lost in thought. That was until a voice caught her attention. Someone called her name - did anyone even know her?! Suddenly spinning on her heels, Serena looked over to see a girl she recognised instantly. A smile appeared on her face before she even realised, "Hey!" She quickly replied as she allowed her childhood friend hug her, wrapping her own arms around her to return it. Serena wasn't much of a hugger but she let people hug her and returned them on occasion. Most times, she only initiated a hug if she thought the other person needed one or if she was really emotional and needed one. But Victoria was on hugging terms with her, and that was totally okay by Serena's standards. Breaking the hug, Serena laughed softly to her friend's question. She shrugged a little, "I think it's great but you know what my family are like, so who knows?" She replied honestly. Her family of pure-blooded wizards and witches were known for the judgemental nature, "Slytherin though- my parents would love you!" She continued as she noticed the snake on her friend's robes, "I'm sure they'd want to adopt you or swap daughters!" she joked. She didn't actually think they would. They weren't that bad. They were very protective over Serena anyway, so it showed they - at the very least - cared about her. Perhaps cared too much!
