HEADLINER
from Headliner Issue #44: Friday Hallow’s Eve - Between dinner and curfew, stop by the Headliner office in costume for a trick or treat. Visitors will have their choice between a classic Chocolate Frog or a surprise ticket draw, resulting in a gag gift or a jinx!
| Oct. 31st, 2025| | The Headliner Office door | | Around 8PM |To join: state whether your character chooses a chocolate frog or mystery ticket. 1 frog will be gifted to your account if they pick the safe choice. if they draw a ticket, Headliner mods will roll 1d10 to determine if they get a prize or are jinxed. One per guest, choose wisely
┏ ┓ The hall outside of the Headliner's office was aglow with grinning jack-o-lanterns and floating candles. Tables were arranged in a semi-circle around the door, laden with cauldrons overflowing with individually wrapped Chocolate Frogs, towers of newspapers, and pyramidic stacks of Weasley's Wizard Wheezes gift boxes. Music crooned from beyond the open office door, which costumed members milled in and out of as the night unfolded. Some among them passed out sweets with smiles and waves. Others sat expectantly behind buckets of folded "mystery tickets", wand in hand, waiting for bolder visitors to risk getting spelled for a chance at pricier prizes. Flickering candlelight, glistening boxes, a crackling gramophone, and the glint of suspiciously realistic spiderweb decor create a cozy pocket of Hallow's Eve ambiance for all Hogwarts residents to share in. All they had to do was pick trick or treat.┗ ┛

┏ ┓ Hallow's Eve had a special place in Pericles' heart. While the vast majority of holidays involved interacting with one's family, this one was geared towards community, offering a unique chance to interact with anyone and everyone. He carried warm memories of watching silent film projections with strangers, or trick-or-treating with classmates in these very halls. To be on the other side of it all, handing out sweets to underclassmen, marked a changing of season in the young warlock's life.
Pericles typically took well to change, though he had been notably mopey over the changing of the guard, bemoaning Ruby's absence with sighs and mournful mumblings like a resident office ghost. All the same, he was quickly warming up to @Silas Norwood. As much as he disliked schoolwork, their editor-in-chief was canny when it came to keeping the Headliner operational, pitching his support for Spirit Week without hesitation. @Mahlioz Evethisawe had explained the concept to Pear in the first place. He questioned them on whether or not the other years would want to wear costumes through Halloween, something he planned to petition the professors for, and Mahl mentioned the popularity of Spirit Weeks in muggle schools. Of course students liked dressing up. It was a way to show some personality when they were typically restricted to identical uniforms. Charmed by the notion, Pear passed the idea by school staff and worked with the team to publish their article. Some pitched in decorations, others volunteered to work the tables, and some donated Weasley gags. He was unsurprised to have @Aly Salinger involved from start to end, her flair for events making her an enthusiastic organizer. Everything else had fallen into place.
The host had recycled his costume from the latest Fall ball, which was as apt for Halloween as it had been for the watery event: the guise of a drowned sailor, complete with a damp and faded petticoat, boots, and an ensemble likely peeled from the corpse of some adventurous ancestor. To truly sell the look, he designed a shroud from a faulty invisibility cloak, bound loosely around his collar and arms. This resulting raincoat gave him an unsettling translucence that rippled with every shift of fabric. Pericles sent the first visitor away with a chocolate frog and a copy of the latest Headliner issue, wiggling see-through fingers in farewell. His mismatched gaze wandered the hall, tempting passerby with a tin of mystery tickets and a goading "Who's next?"┗ ┛

The costume contest was just the first step in the school's celebrations and Maisie was going to take full advantage of everything going on. Besides, she had a wonderful classic outfit, if she did say so herself. And Adeline's magpie had come out swimmingly as well. Even if not everyone might understand the muggle references, she was feeling pretty good as Holly Golightly.
But she needed insurance—or at least something fun. So, when she heard about the special associated event from the Headliner, she simply had to go! And she had the good fortune to bring @Adeline Spinks and @Robin Marie with her. The two girls were quickly becoming safe spaces for her where duelling was concerned, and she enjoyed their company. Where Mylo knew the right way to get things done on the piste, the girls had creative thinking for when that didn't work (which unfortunately in Maisie's case was often).
"I think it's around this corner," she suggested as she held her faux cigarette holder up, pointing. She didn't actually know—she'd never visited the Headliner before—but she could follow directions well enough—and music. The eerie tunes were the biggest hint that the office laid ahead.
And soon enough, an older Ravenclaw she'd seen many a time, stood there in a drowned sailor's outfit (quite nicely put together she might add), beckoned her forward with a tin of tickets. With narrowed eyes, Maisie looked across at Robin and Adeline for any insight. She'd come for frogs, but the idea of a mystery ticket was intriguing. No, it was fun. Yes, yes, it would be.
So, with a grin, she reached in, and stepped side for the next person.
Interacting with @Robin Marie & @Adeline Spinks, whom we've agreed are together.

Hair gelled back full Joker style, curls framing her face, and a thin layer of makeup to give her a look of pallor, Robin felt centered for the first time in a long time. The Halloween Costume Contest was fun, yes, but she'd mainly gone to people-watch and observe. She'd ended up socializing after Adeline had found her in the corner, moping, coming out of her shell, and eventually shedding the ghost costume for the rest of the evening. She'd had a secondary costume planned out – one that she'd worn under the white sheet she'd altered in order to be completely hidden from the crowd – the one she'd worn earlier that day throughout her classes.
Now with the Halloween feast over and the night still young, Robin had been invited by her duelling teammate, Maisie, to attend the school's Headliner office to receive a treat or, hopefully in Robin's case, a trick. To Robin's surprise and great pleasure, Adeline had also been invited. The two girls looked splendid in their Halloween Costumes – Maisie had attended as Holly Golightly from the old Breakfast at Tiffany's film, while Adeline had come dressed as a beautiful magpie bird, trinkets and all. It was incredibly pleasing to be around other students who had experience in the Muggle world and embraced that fact in their subtle costumes. They both had clearly put a lot of time and effort into them – something Robin hoped she could emulate for the following year. Robin herself had come as Edgar Allen Poe, complete with a styrofoam black Raven clipped onto her shoulder. She'd decided to only repeat the singular word, "Nevermore," to any students who were unfamiliar with the man. She wasn't here to explain the intricacies of the macabre American Poet – she was here to look slightly unsettling and follow her two new friends like a lost puppy who smelled a tasty treat.
Her attention was piqued when she heard the soft, lilting tunes coming from the direction Maisie had pointed out. She'd grinned and bounced on the tip of her toes towards the room, entering and taking in the surroundings with intrigue. Maisie made her way toward an older Ravenclaw student, pausing to look back at her and Adeline as if she wanted their input for her choice.
"Oh, screw the chocolate frog," Robin shouted, still bouncing on her toes, scrunching her nose as the fake mustache threatened to make her sneeze. "I want that ticket!" After her friend had pulled out a ticket of her own, Robin eagerly stuck her hand in the bucket and grabbed a neatly folded piece of paper. What could go wrong?
Action: Surprise Ticket, please!

✽Avery walked into the Headliner office with a smile on her face. It was Halloween. A spooky yet fun holiday full of not only tricks, but treats. She didn’t know what to expect when she arrived. Honestly she hadn’t expected anything less than what she saw.
That’s when the time to make the decision came. Would she take the safe way and accept the chocolate frogs or would she take the risk and the possibility of being jinxed? The choice was simple. What was life without risk? She had nothing to lose.
Avery accepted a treat handed to her by a costumed member. A modest, “Thank you.” Escaping her lips as she viewed the area. Accessing what her next move would be.
She listened as music filled the air. Haunting yet perfect for the vibe of the area. The pumpkins continuing to burn as she watched past them and headed to where the mystery tickets were being handed out. “Let’s do this.” Avery mumbled to herself as she accepted the ticket and could only hope nothing went wrong.
As she waited for her fate, she took a quick glance around the room. She didn’t recognize anyone in particular, but that wasn’t what she wanted to know. If anything, she was curious what they had chosen. Had they gone the safe route or risked everything and played the risk? ✽

The Hogwarts Headliner. It was a paper that Kim had followed since the start of his time here at Hogwarts. Near Halloween, a notice popped up that he'd seen which had caught his attention. If a student dropped by the Headliner office in costume for a trick or treat, they would get something for their troubles. How intriguing. Kim couldn't help but want to see how they had set things up and wondered if he could give them some treats too. Sure, that was not exactly how things were supposed to go, but at the same time how could a baker like him resist the urge to have others sample his creations? So, the day before Halloween, Kim began to work on a batch of treats he'd bring with him there. He had also sent an owl to some of his friends who he thought might want to partake. Bailey, Colin and his roommate Aodhan to see if they wanted to join him. Kim knew Eun-ji wasn't really the sort to want to interact with various strangers, so he hadn't contacted her. If it had been something with people she knew, he would have 100% asked her to come though. But he wouldn't be surprised to see a certain Hanako Tone there. Trick or Treat? The chance to play some pranks? That was certainly Hana, Aodhan, Colin and Kim, which was why he'd asked those particular people. The hall outside the office was decorated and Kim had to admit it was pretty impressive. He loved the floating candles. The jack o'lanterns were also a nice touch. As for his costume, Kim had opted for something elaborate this time. He'd gone all out on a skeleton zombie face paint costume with the majority of his costume being the face paint. He was dressed all in black and his face paint had made his eyebrows thicker. Not only that but the red lipstick he'd chosen accentuated his lips. He'd painted little stitches on the sides of his mouth and vertical scars over both eyes. Kim's eyes had also been accentuated with makeup and his left eye was a milky color, courtesy of a special contact lense. He wore a white knit wool hat on his head to finish the look. The duelist could hear ambient music playing in the background.... Glancing around, Kim chose a chocolate frog as his treat because how could he pass up one of those? They were delicious and addictive. He glanced around the room and spotted a section of the table that looked like it had some space. Moving over to the table, Kim set down the platter he had been carrying and unveiled its contents. He'd made some delicious Halloween decorated oreo balls. Kim spotted Pericles and inclined his head towards him. "Hope you don't mind, I dropped off some Oreo balls for you. I'm testing out creations to see if people like them. If you could give me your thoughts later, it would be much appreciated." He said as Kibō gave Peri a hiss... Kibō liked his costume too. The serpent had made its home twining around Kim's upper arm and shoulder as usual. Kim noticed two younger Ravenclaw duelists and inclined his head towards them but didn't say much. Right now, Kim was merely waiting to see if any of his friends showed up there as it would be nice to see what choice they would pick. It was around this time that he happened to catch sight of a familiar face. Avery. He raised a hand into the air and waved at her from his position. Kim couldn't help but wonder what Avery had chosen. It looked as if she'd already chosen but he hadn't seen what she'd picked. If Colin were there, Kim was pretty sure he would pick a mystery ticket. |

Headliner Type-or-Treat

Colin chooses the Awesomé Ticket of Mysterious Sussery!
Type-or-Treat seemed like such a cool idea! Silas, Peri, Mahl, and Aly seemed to be most behind it, but they'd planned it for Hallowe'en which meant natural chaos! And Colin was all for that. Especially if it involved something fun! Sometimes one simply hankered for ordinary, non-perilous chaos when so often Hogwarts students were under attack. He reckoned this would make for a nice change!
As he rounded the corner of the corridor that led to the Headliner offices, Colin noticed right away that Kim Aoki was present and accounted for, checking out all the stuff on the tables. Colin knew about the prize tickets and the choco frogs. He smirked as he got closer. He knew which one he was going to pick! His friend Avery and a couple Ravenclaws were also present.
True to form, Kim picked the chocolate. "Prince of Sweets!" he purred as he sidled up next to Kim. His friend's face was painted like a zombie. "Ayo Aves! Good choice! I'm taking the mystery ticket meself!" he greeted the younger Gryff. He waved to the Ravenclaws. Apart from Kim, everyone was picking the mystery ticket! "Ye know Kim, I reckon if everyone picks the mystery ticket, they might give you all the choco frogs!" He remembered what Kim had just said to Peri. "Say, Kim. What exactly are orrery hoe balls anyway? Is that them?" he pointed out the box of curious treats.
When it came time, at last, to choose which option he'd take, naturally, Colin went straight for the mystery ticket! If he'd picked the choco frog, he most likely would have given it to Kim anyway, because he was so fond of sweets. But Colin was practically dying to see what was in all the mystery boxes! "I heard that some of might get jinxed! Heheh! That'll be fun seeing who knows a countercharm! Also! Aves, did ye know that Muggle kids have spirits week in their schools? I heard Mahl talking about it when the Headliner staff were planning this!"
He tried to think of how to explain it. "Apparently, Muggle kids have to go to school dressed like undead spirits & ghosts and then they have to drink brandy. Yeugh! Alcohol spirits taste disgusting, I can tell you! I'm really glad wizarding kids don't have to drink brandy at school! Though dressing like a ghost is pretty normal. I'm rather surprised they make a whole week of it!" Colin sighed, shaking his head slightly. "Muggles are just odd that way I reckon!"
Colin had to admire the Ravenclaws' costumes. One was dressed up like a Muggle, and the other like some bloke from centuries ago. For some reason, he had a raven on his shoulder. Perhaps it was another reference to Muggles. Colin decided to ask her: "So, it's obvious she's come dressed as a Muggle, but what's with the raven? Do Muggles keep ravens too?"
"Neverrmore!" she replied.
Colin blinked. "I --- What?"
"Nevermore!" she repeated.
Clearly, Colin wasn't going to get any other response! He smiled, amused at the girl's cryptic response, so he turned to head back over to be with Kim. He called over his shoulder to the secretive Ravenclaw:
Nevermore, Nevermore, sitting on a limb
Where he's going, where he's been, not a one can say!
Nevermore, Nevermore, lapping at the skim
Who he is and why is was, Raven shan't betray!

┏ ┓ The mystery tickets rustled like dry leaves in the tin, a shifting mass of orange, purple, and black parchment with no discernable classification. Pericles had bribed underclassmen on the team to stamp, cut, then fold a few dozen of the things to align with a secret list of risks and rewards. He was eager to see them play out. No one that night had been brave enough to take a gamble on getting hexed by a seventh-year duel alumni, that is, until @Maisie Gemmell came along. He'd heard her gaggle of witchlets before he laid eyes on them, glancing up in time to see the classily dressed Ravenclaw pointing a cigarette holder like a compass' arrow. The ghostly mage smiled when they approached, and smiled wider still when she plucked a ticket from the heap. It opened to reveal the glittering gold paint of a number 5. Pear lofted both eyebrows with an airy "Huh"- surprised by the result, as if he hadn't been the one to design it, and bought time by rubbing his palms in thought. His focus wandered upwards to take in Maisie's bouffant updo. It was a sophisticated style, swept high into a sparkling tiara, and it didn't take long to find inspiration in it. Rather than draw his wand, the Ravenclaw made a flicking gesture while reciting "Crinus Muto." A spark of mana was flung from his fingertip to her brow. Rapidly, Maisie's hair turned white as his own, only to become populated by black spots in an instantly recognizable Dalmatian pattern. Pear's mouth curled into a catlike grin as he moved to hand her a chocolate frog regardless, justifying: "For being a good sport." Those who were hexed were still entitled to something. Sending them away empty-handed on All Hallow's would be as unfun for him as for them.
@Robin Marie had been just as brave in her approach, loudly declaring "Oh, screw the chocolate frog, I want that ticket!" Her enthusiasm wouldn't waver, even in the wake of her friend's fate. Pear could appreciate that. His left eye admired the fake bird wobbling on her shoulder, while its mechanical twin watched her (equally fake) mustache try to flee her upper lip. The sailor's spirit nodded as he purred in approval: "Fine choice, Mister Poe." Her ticket revealed a gilded 2. The writer's eyes widened in excitement, and after allowing anticipation to build with a bated pause, he reached for a reward. It was a jubilant box, purple and orange with a proud W on its lid, authentic Weasley craft. Cradled in a nest of crinkle-cut paper shred was a single dungbomb. He'd had a strategic reason for staging all of this outside of the office itself. Peri leaned over the table, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper, complete with cupped mouth and a shifting stare. "Be sure you're on another floor before you consider playing with it, won't you?"
@Avery Gray seemed more restrained than the others, approaching the tables outside of the office with an uncertain gait. Overhearing the encouragement she mumbled to herself, Pear invited her with an inward wave, urging "Don't be nervous...." He tried to look as encouraging as he could for someone dressed as a waterlogged corpse. This look fell flat when a golden 7 was revealed. He added "....unless you have stage-fright." before unceremoniously pointing at her, reciting "Cantis." A bolt of pink light struck Avery's throat. She would feel no pain, only the uncontrollable, irrefutable urge to start singing the first Halloween-adjacent song that came to mind. Pericles reached over the table to pass her a chocolate frog, raising his voice as the Singing Jinx took hold. "You ought to be able to enjoy this once it wears off in three minutes or so."
@Kim Sato was eyed with interest as he approached, Pear's gaze sliding from his intricate face paint to the lidded dish in his arms. An appreciative smile sprang up once its contents were introduced. He joined him in clearing space, shoving a cauldron to the table's edge. "I don't mind at all. This was thoughtful of you, Kim." He didn't hesitate to select an treat, insisting "I could give you my thoughts now" while loosing a frog card from its package. Its edge was used as an impromptu knife, cutting clean down the middle, the eagle carrying on conversationally. "Food is better when shared. Have a half with me." Pericles was momentarily distracted by Kibō's soft hiss. While serpents were more his family's motif, as a collector of arachnids, he knew a thing or two about loving the "creepy crawlies" of the world. A soft resonance of admiration could be heard as he praised, "That's a beautiful morph. What's their name?" Kim was offered half of his own confection balanced on a card. The figure depicted, Archibald Alderton, shook his fists as crumbs partially obscured his face.┗ ┛ mod note: we'll wrap you into the next one Colin!

Lucille was excited, to say the least. She'd been religiously reading the Headliner ever since she'd started Hogwarts, and she was now going to its office for the first time. The Headliner made her feel involved with Hogwarts, and helped her keep up with it, not to mention the rumor mill one could come across sometimes was intriguing. She clutched its latest issue in her hand, open to the page talking of Spirit Week. She hoped she was right about the date and place, as she turned the corner. It would appear she was, as she could hear intriguing Halloween music coming from somewhere up ahead, not to mention the small crowd of people that had already accumulated. Some people were already receiving their respective tricks or treats. Lucille stood on her tip-toes, craning her neck to try to see what the others were getting. She could simply pick a safe bet but, if she did, she wouldn't really be herself, would she? No, it was always characteristic for Lucille to pick the unexpected option, the one that might surprise her. Some tables were spread out, with Headliner members seated behind them, expectantly waiting for their next receivers. One could pick the safe option, or a mystery ticket. Of course, Lucille stepped forward to a table, ignoring the staff member passing out sweets, and instead requesting a mystery ticket. "One mystery ticket, please!" she said brightly, no hesitation present in her voice. It had hardly been a decision. But, now that she had said it, a little bit of nervousness swelled within her. It was a familiar kind of nervousness, uncertainty coupled with excitement, like the final moments on a roller coaster when it is slowly creaking upwards to the top of a drop. There's a bit of fear within your stomach, but it is so intertwined with ecstatic impatient waiting that you don't really notice it. It brought a smile to Lucille's lips. As she waited, she tugged a little at her dress, feeling slightly underdressed for the occasion. She didn't really have a costume set aside for such instances, so she had had to make do with the Dress for the Dead table, snatching fabrics to hastily make a Little Red Riding Hood costume. Nonetheless, it was recognizable, and at such short notice, that was all she could ask for, really. | ![]() ![]() |
