Zion entered the room, as Madeline followed closely behind him.
He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. The smell of instruments and perhaps a bit of dust danced round his nose. A quite familiar smell. This was the room that soothed his soul when his mind took him to sorrow and painful longing.
"Here it is," Zion said to Maddy. "Where the magic happens, type shit."
Without much talking or thought, the Hufflepuff boy went straight to the lonely piano in the room. His body began talking with the music, as his fingers moved gracefully over the black and white keys.
Every note, the boy felt it in his bones as he bopped his head up and down to the soulful music.
What better song to warm up than the great SZA?
"I'll touch that fire for you
I do that three, four times again, I testify for you
I told that lie, I'd kill that bitch
I do what all of them around you scared to do, I'm not
Long as you juggin' out here for me, I got it."
The R&B enthusiast allowed the piano to sing its part as he commanded the instrument as if it was another extension of him. He added adlibs and a couple of stylistic off-beat strokes, before he continued singing again.
"Mobbing, scheming, looting, hide your bodies
Long as you dreaming 'bout me, ain't no problem
I don't got nobody, just with you right now
Tell the truth, I look better under you."
He paused for a bit as he looked towards Maddy's direction. "Don't tell me you don't know 'bout Queen SZA?" Zion said as his fingers began playing a soft instrumental as if inviting his new friend to sing with him.

Maddy trailed after Zion quietly, her hands shoved in her pockets as she tried remembering her way to wherever they were going. She had a feeling, she was going to be coming this way again.
She entered the room, stifling a gasp, it felt warm. A kind of warmth that felt comfortable, magical, but not the magic she was used to....
Her gaze shifted from the room, to Zion who was already near the piano. As he started playing, the air surrounding the room changed.
The notes seemed to fill every corner. It wasn’t the kind of song she’d ever heard before; no bewitched flutes, no enchanted choirs, just no magic—just him, his voice, and that Piano.
She blinked as he started singing. His voice was oddly soothing and Maddy felt it....nice?
When he looked at her, she felt her pulse fastening but she managed to calm herself down to answer his question.
“Queen… SZA?” she repeated, her eyebrows furrowing. “Is that, like, a monarch?” She tilted her head teasingly, “do Muggles really have singers called Queens?”
Maddy stepped closer, arms crossing as she spoke in a low voice “It’s different,” she admitted. “Feels… real. Like it’s not tryna impress anyone, just....Ahh I dunno!”
She realized maybe she was turning soft? Nah that can't be it, she just met him....right? Yes, It will be fine.
She smiled faintly, then added, "if that’s your kind of magic, you’ve got to teach me. Fair warning- I'm a terrible student."
She meant it jokingly knowing no one would waste their time on that, but she was curious as she tried to hide it.

"Ah right... Muggle music," Zion laughed. "And no. She's not an actual queen. We muggles just have a range of nicknames we call people... It seems to ... vary by region."
The R&B enthusiast chuckled at Maddy's request to teach her. "Honestly... you just have to keep singing and playing to get better. Taught myself. Never really liked it when Mama tried to teach me. I learn far better on my own."
The boy played another tune on the piano. What music would Maddy know? Zion had no clue what wizards and witches listened to in this world. It was funny to Zion how small the magic population was, yet they never heard of world famous Muggle songs.
Zion then noticed that the strong willed girl from earlier was acting... different. Earlier she was energetic, strong, and sharp. Now she seemed... much less energetic, a bit more quiet... and slower than usual.
"You okay?" Zion asked slightly concerned. "You're... less energetic than before."
He reached forward to check Maddy's forehead temperature as he stopped himself. He remembered his mother telling him to never touch a lady without her permission.
"Mind if I feel your forehead?" Zion asked in a warm and caring voice. "Maybe you got a fever."

Maddy raised an eyebrow, half-smiling at his explanation about Muggle nicknames variety, "So no actual crowns involved? That's disappointing, I was hoping to actually listen to a Royalty singing." Her voice contained the same humor but it softened when he mentioned teaching himself.
"You taught yourself?" she asked curiously, "And your Mother also sings......must be the genes." She processed this slowly then nodding to herself she added, "I tried to teach myself flute once, nearly blew Louis's ears off, he still havent forgiven me."
When Zion asked if she was okay, she came out of her memories and blinked at him. She didnt realized she had gotten quiet and zoned off. "Oh yeah, I'm alright, just thinking I guess." She chuckled nervously also quite confused with how she was behaving. What is wrong with her?
Then came his next question.
Her head jerked slightly, surprise flickering in her brown eyes.
No boy she ever met asked her permission before touching her, they just grab her. Well, this was quite considerate and....she was confused.
"M-My Forehead? What for?" She said narrowing her eyes a little, "You planning on seeing what's in my mind? Lemme warn you it's not really interesting." She said trying to act in her usual behaviour.
She finally looked up at him sensing the sincerity in his voice. It wasn't teasing just genuine care. She sighed, giving in, "Sure you can see, but I dont think I have a fever......"
Well, she did feel warm but surely not right, " And If I somehow do....its the rooms fault, it just is hot in here. I am not sick."
That has to be it right? I mean hopefully....
