Adlai gently hits the tennis ball back over to Virgil a smile on her face. She didn’t want to break him just yet, after all she remembered how brutal her first game was and didn’t want the same in the slightest for him.
“That was good!” She exclaimed.
“But try to square out your shoulders a bit more, you look really tense.”

Giving him that advice felt good. Her sisters were to young to play tennis and her friends played different sports, on top of that her parents were busy most times. So having someone to play with, some to teach this to felt absolutely amazing.

Though, once again, if Virgil didn’t like the sport she wouldn’t pressure him to play it. However, she would talk about her idols with him though he has very little context on who they are. Then again the same goes for Adlai. She stills feels bad for not being able to know the bands he listens to or the games he likes to play.

However, she does know is that he is a kind and gentle person. That he looks out for his friends and is would do anything for them, even learn to play tennis for an afternoon.
OOC: Don’t worry about it, I’m sorry for replying late as well.

[QUOTE]The ball comes back to him and he hits it, with just a little more power than last time, though, considering it's him we're talking about, it doesn't do much. Adlai tells him he looks really tense, which makes him bite back a bitter laugh. When isn't he? That's the real question. She gives him some advice, too, to which Virgil nods, though he didn't get much of it, feeling too tense to actually be able to move properly.

He tries to relax a little, trying to remind himself that it's just a game and there's nothing wrong with being terrible at it, but he doesn't. It almost feels like that time he met with his bandmates and he was so nervous he couldn't even speak properly. Despite breathing in and out like he does to calm down, he can barely feel his legs.

Honestly, Virgil doesn't hate tennis, come to think of it. The idea is actually quite fun, but he can't fully enjoy it considering his brain is working like crazy and he feels like he might mess everything up by just being there. However, he smiles a bit, to tell his friends that he's having fun and that this is going to be great for the two of them.

As the two batted the ball back and forth to one another Adlai smiled. It was nice to have a friend like Virgil, he was willing to try new things for her.
“I heard you joined that band! How’s that going for you? When’s your first performance?”
She asked.

Adlai had seen a large array of bands begin to form at the school and now that she’s learned that Virgil joined won she wanted to show him her support and possibly become his number one fan, after all she’s very confident in Virgil’s musical skills even if she’s never heard him sing or play an instrument before.

Adlai has never sung before, well unless you count the old Norse calls she would use on her friends farm in Iceland. And instrument wise all she could play as the kazoo, if that even counted as one.
Her mother knows how to play the violin, but barely performs for the family now since work had consumed her parents lives ever since they moved to Wales.

Adlai then began to ponder on what instruments her sisters may play if they ever become interested in them. Currently they both like to play with small drums and maracas.

[quote]Virgil's doing surprisingly well, as they continue to go back and forth with the ball. It's more than obvious now that Adlai is being gentle with him, which he finds himself being very thankful for. He has to move faster to the ball this time when he hears the girl question about his band. It catches him by surprise and he almost misses it, but somehow manages to get the ball over to her side.

"I did, yes!" exclaims Virgil, euphoric, with a move energetic look to him, lighting up his dark eyes. The Witching Hour has become very precious to him and he's found himself more and more inspired to write more songs. He's only met his bandmates twice, but it still feels like some big accomplishment to him. "It-It's. uh, great, I guess,"

He doesn't comment further on the lack of interaction between his bandmates because he doesn't want Adlai to think that his band isn't, you know, a real band or whatever. The question about his first show lingers in his head. They have yet to properly practice together, but, hopefully, it won't take long until they have to perform. The excitement that rushes through him is surprising, especially considering his past experiences with performing to actual people. Ignoring the tingling anxiety that signals its arrival, he smiles at her.

"Well, about performances, I, uh, I don't really know..." says Virgil, calming, "It's up to Roman, the leader. But I guess it won't take long, everyone seems really passionate about the band," He looks down, fondly thinking about the lyrics Kingston has written. The guy's really good. Virgil snaps out of those thoughts, turning back to her. "But why? You want to see me perform?"

”Of course I want to see you preform! You’d be amazing I just know it!” She exclaimed before thinking back on the name that Virgil had mentioned.
“Roman...I swear I’ve heard that name before.”
She muttered before brushing it to the side.

“I’m sure once you guys have your first performance you’ll be quite the popular music group! But remember, right now I’m calling dibs as your number one fan!” Adlai giggles.
She was very excited for her friend. Knowing how anxious Virgil could be she wanted to give as much support as possibly, especially now with whatever had happened over winter break with him and his family.

Adlai had never been to a live performance before so Virgil’s band may be her first! Just thinking about it made her excited. “What kind of music do you guys play?” She asked.

She herself had a wide variety of music taste, then again what song and artist she listened to depended on her mood or the mood she wanted to be in. She hadn’t heard any wizarding bands yet thus, she was looking forward to that as well. Speaking of which, where would she listen to music? Surely if it off campus she wouldn’t be able to go, right?

[quote]Like usual, he blushes at the compliment, shyly staring down at his feet, completely missing the next move. The ball flies just a little over his head, thankfully not hitting him in the face. Virgil only startles at the sound of the ball close to him and turns around to grab it, so they can continue to play.

He wants to comment on how he's not that good, after the girl's sentence, but he fights back that urge. Despite not being the best (he's certain the others bandmates were ten times more talented than him), he assures himself that being in the band is proof of his worth. Roman doesn't seem like the type to accept whoever showed up at the audition.

Adlai mutters something, but he doesn't catch it. The boy does catch on to something else the girl says after that.

"My number one fan? That's— Very sweet," says the Slytherin, smiling, with a fluttery heart, after grabbing the tennis ball, making his way back to where he once stood, so he can serve (correctly, he silently hopes). Concentrated, he serves, smiling when the ball goes to the other side perfectly. "So, we're a punk rock band..." Virgil smiles, embarrassed. "I know I don't look like the type, but, yeah..."

Adlai smiles as she bats the ball back to him.
“You have a whole side of you I’m yet to know of yet.” She says after hearing what kind of music Virgil’s band plays. She had never heard punk rock before, so Virgil’s band may be her first impression.

“Who else is in the band?” She asks as she heard nothing about other band mates yet, since the people who talked to her about it only spoke of Virgil.

She was sure they were talented people, they just be to have been confident enough to create a band especially during their first year at Hogwarts.

Many times before had Adlai heard people practicing their lyrical skills while she walked up and down the corridor’s. Everyone sounding brilliant and unique. Sadly she was part of the non-musically gifted group and instead, of course, played tennis.

Then again, her mother’s side of the family sees music as a sin. Thus, she’s lucky enough to even be allowed to listen to it. However, the music she has listened has always been mandated by the watchful eye of her mother, who is now several miles away. Giving Adlai freedom in the music and activities she partakes in.

[quote]”I guess it’s a side of me not even I knew about,” says Virgil to her response, smiling. He’s at ease, and feels strangely accomplished after hearing Addie’s words. The boy always assumes he’s nothing special, that he never brings anything to the table, so it feels good to know that he can be unpredictable, or different than what people expect of him.

Adlai asks about his other bandmates and he smiles some more, looking down.

“Uh, well, there’s Roman and two Gryffindors: Rafael and this pretty girl Halston,” says Virgil remembering the people he met on the band’s first meeting. Not that he thinks back at it: it hadn’t been as hard as he’d anticipated. Everyone was polite and nice, and sure, Roman and Rafael looked intimidating, but the girls seemed sweet. “And— Sa-Saoir-Saoirse? I don’t know how to pronounce her name. But she’s from Hufflepuff.”

He lets out a weak laugh, feeling bad for not knowing how to pronounce that. He’ll have to ask her later when they meet again for another band meeting. The boy can only hope to not make her mad or sad in anyway. Virgil scratches the back of his head and nods to Adlai.

“They’re very talented,” he adds, just to be sure.

The first name Virgil said seemed to strike a cord with Adlai as she allowed the ball to slip past her. “Roman...Roman...” she muttered. “Oh! You mean Old Man!” She exclaimed before going to retrieve the tennis ball.
“I’ve met him before, he spotted me a few when I was having trouble paying for my robes at the beginning of the year. I think I also have history of magic with him, I’m not sure though since we barely talk.”
Raising her racket her served the ball.
“I also think I’ve bumped into Soarise before in the common room or maybe even during clubs...I’m not to sure in that either. Everything has been to hectic lately I feel like my mind is slipping, I even forgot my class schedule yesterday!”
It was true, Adlai wasn’t sure if it was the lack of sleep or the amount of stress she was feeling but her memory did fade every once and while, especially during tests. Which in all honesty, isn’t doing her any favors. At least she can still find her common room and knows where her dorm is.
If not she’s sure she would live in the girls lavatory. Which would mostly likely not be a fun time.

[quote]Old man?

Virgil frowns, but with an endearing smile to his face. He has no idea how Addie could've come up with that nickname for the band's leader after their encounter, but he thinks it's appropriate. Though Roman has never been anything but polite in all the times they've met, there's some sort of "oldness" to him, if that even makes sense. Maybe it's because of his name, or blood purity, Virgil tries to explain it to himself, confused by his own thoughts. But then again, he's also a pureblood and his name isn't anything modern either.

Out of the blue, Adlai serves the ball, making Virgil jump, scared. He tries to hit it back, but he uses the racket to protect his face instead. Adlai keeps talking like nothing's happened, and Virgil blinks, still frozen in position, scared that she might "attack" him once again. When he's certain that she won't, listening to the girl as she talks about bumping to Saoirse once or twice, he lowers himself and gets the ball.

"Well, try meditating, or something. I've been quite... What's the word? Afobado recently, too!" says Virgil, snapping his fingers when he thinks of the word in Portuguese. "I don't know the word in English, but oh well. It's just- the year hasn't finished, but I've been drowning already. Do you know what I mean?"

translation.
Afobado means flustered.
