"We were only trying to drown her."

The way Persephone explained that she tried to give Evelynn a napkin reminded Jack almost exactly of the way a mermaid from Peter Pan tried to explain their treatment of the girl, Wendy. He was still in shock a little as his brain continued to try to make sense of everything. Surely Persephone wasn't jealous of Evelynn like the mermaids had been of Wendy, right? Jack supposed he couldn't be sure, not knowing if the two girls even knew each other, but the peculiar way Persephone seemed to be beaming and enjoying the ensuing chaos her actions had caused reminded him of something.

No, someone. It reminded him of tricksters. And of himself.

It could have been a premature assumption, as he still had to know whether or not Persephone had any other motive for her actions, but as she had not spoken a word to Evelynn, Jack doubted the attack had been personal. If the motive had been what he thought it was, he knew Persephone's reasoning had been relatively innocent, even if simultaneously selfish. After all, he did the same thing all the time - much more often before he had met Opeila and Ruka.

His guess was that, whether she knew it or not, Persephone had simply wanted to make a connection to another person. Like him, however, she was adverse to attempting to connect positively, as people did with friendships, so she had attempted to form a negative connection instead.

Jack knew first hand how the more people one was surrounded by, the lonelier they could make someone feel - like the small crowd that had formed for the sake of the professor's tea party errand. With so many other students around and none of them acknowledging your existence, it was like being a ghost. And, of course, the redhead was all too aware that it was worse to be ignored than to be hated.

That was why the Slytherin boy assumed that Persephone took such pleasure in getting a reaction - a lot of reactions - from so many people. Her actions had forced them all to pay attention to her, and regardless of what kind, attention was attention. Her existence had made an impact on the lives of others, compelling them to acknowledge her whether they wanted to or meant to or not.

But regardless of how pleased Persephone might have thought she was with herself, Jack couldn't help but feel sorry for her. After all, who knew better than he how painful it was to prefer being hated and loathed rather than liked and accepted?

"Barret," he told the blonde, his expression impassive and his tone neutral, "Do you know the girl you just dumped tea on?"

The Gryffindor ex-prefect, Aurelia, and the Slytherin girl, Opeila, seemed ready to burn Persephone at the stake, but Jack wanted to be certain of his theory, first. He also wanted the others listening and watching to maybe get a hint from what he had hoped to hear Persephone say.

The gingerbread giant stuttered when he looked at her. Odd. Nico thought. It was quite recognisable. She too had endured such nerves. But that was because she met knew people. Quinn always seemed a social butterfly to her. A bright smile with fitting bright eyes. Pretty freckles covering his pale face. However... Is he ... blushing? Surprised, Nico blinked her iceblue hues.
Quinn took a seat at their table as he apparantly knew the small boy at the other side. Well, they shared the same House, so it made sense that they would've seen each other before. Being a Prefect probably helped meeting new people aswell. Nico would know.

When he started having some small talk with the little boy named Jake, Nico couldn't help but notice his freakishly big hands that he had folded before him. They didn't necesarrily scared her but next to Jakes baby hands, Quinns hands looked like shovels. She tried her best not to stare. His hands were so intruiging though. Where are her manners...

'The event...' the dhampir whispered as she imagined Quinn breaking a tree trunk in half with his bare hands like it was nothing. Impressive. Very impressive.

'Oh! The event! Is GREAT! Lovely!' As if someone poked her in the side, Nico jumped a lil on her seat. Her eyes wide and present. Stammering as she tried to convince her fellow tablesitters she was with the conversation the whole time.

'I-... Ehm. It is...' Now that she made it awkward, she had to think fast... 'It's.. quite bright in here. To me atleast. I'm not sure what.. you two think. What brought you here, if I may ask?'
Nico intently eyed at Quinn and Jake. It then hit her that she hadn't introduced herself to the small badger. 'I-I'm so sorry! I'm Nico. I.. completely forgot to introduce myself. It's nice to meet you, Jake.'

Someone had really got her off her rails. Usually she'd introduce herself to any new person she met. However this time, that wasn't the case.

Suddenly, a scream got the Dhampirs attention. At a table at the other side of the hall, there seemed to be trouble. All Nico could see was a girl screaming in pain, tears trinkling down her cheeks. Next to her a girl. A... Slytherin student?
This kind of commotion didn't stay unnoticed. Defenitely not for people like... Aurelia. Nico wasn't super fond of her. There was something strange about her that made her feel uneasy. Yes, she did save her from a certain doom, however, that didn't change the way she felt.

The former prefect stepped beside the girl who was in pain and glared intently at who seemed to be a Slytherin student. Great... It became clear that Aurelia had noticed most of the Prefects here, yet she only called out for Quinn and Xailah. A girl who once slapped her claws into a Half-Giants throat. Impressive and scary.

If Quinn decided to walk over to whatever was going on, Nico would surely join him. If the culprit was a Slytherin student, she would be responsible to handle her.

When Opeila talked to Persephone, she didn't expect the other girl to get physical again. When Persephone stamped on her foot, Opeila had only been able to pull it away a few milimeters, not far enough to escape her foot completely.
Opeila gasped in pain, the other girl wasn't strong enough to actually damage her foot badly, but it hurt... at least she hoped that. What was the matter with that girl? She kind of understood the whole being rude to keep people away stuff now, but when it got so far that someone was actually hurt, Opeila was done with patience. If that was the reason for Persephone to behave like she did.
"Barret. Do you know the girl you just dumped tea on?", Jack asked now, suddenly very calm. Like that mattered. "Speaking of, I might just go and check on the girl who's injuries don't seem to be so important to you right now.", Opeila said sharply. She couldn't believe, that the Gryffindor girl might be seriously injured, and all everyone was caring about, was Persephone bloody Barret. Well, obviously the girl knew exactly how to get attention.

So Opeila went after the Gryffindor, and immediatly felt a sharp pain in her toes. Alright, maybe Persephone wasn't that weak after all. Did she break the toes? She'd check later. For now she just bit her tongue and tried to walk as normal as possible to catch up with the Gryffindor. She put a hand on her shoulder to stop her, hoping that this wasn't a violent girl as well. "Hey, you alright? Ok, stupid question. Did any of that go into your eyes?" She looked at the girls face, which of course looked red where the hot tea ran down. "Alright, we'll just go to the girl's bathroom to put cold water on that, ok?" She hadn't introduced herself, but that didn't feel important right now.
Quickly, Opeila looked back to Ruka and Alan. "I'll come back", she mouthed.

After she just finished her first cup of milk tea, a Slytherin girl she knew approached her with a smile, "Hi, Thora! It's so lovely to see you.", she returned Thora a quick hug but the brunette seemed to want to meet someone else. Giving her Slytherin friend an understanding nod and let her past by to another corner. And so she would continue to wait for the Ravenclaw boy. However, it didn't take too long until she heard a very familiar voice calling her and immediately looked up to see it was Alan who also dressed up nicely for the tea party errand. She quickly placed her teacup and tea plate down on the table beside her and waved at him with a bright smile, "Hey, Alan! So glad to see you finally arrive here and didn't get swallowed by the crowd!", She joked a bit and hopefully, it could cause Alan to laugh a bit to make things more cheerful.

The Gryffindor Prefect took a good look at Alan, he was wearing a blue striped sweater with a red scarf around his neck, black jeans and had a dark knitted beanie with his name engraved on it. He complimented her outfit first and that made Gris quite happy about it, "Thank you, Alan. It was my aunt who made this outfit for me, it's perfect to wear during spring. And your outfit looks quite chic too and I really like your beanie with your name engraved on it, someone must have knitted it for you.", she complimented Alan's outfit as well. Before Griseldis about to ask Alan to try some tea and biscuits, what she really didn't expect was the Ravenclaw boy giving her a red rose.

While Alan explained that it was his mother's suggestion to bring her a rose as a small Valentine gift, at first, she didn't know what to say because it was the first time, a boy would give her a flower. The boys she knew from her Muggle school usually gifted her books, school supplies or new games but never something so delicate. It took her a brief moment to come back, then thanked him, "Oh, Merlin! I really didn't expect you to give me a rose, it looks so lovely!", she reached out her hands and carefully took the rose from him, looked at it with a gentle smile, "Thank you for such a thoughtful gift, I really like it and I promise that I will take good care of this rose.", she might need to ask the Herbology Professor about how to take care of roses after this errand.

A sudden scream got Griseldis's attention, she looked to the side and noticed a small familiar girl just ran off from a group to chase after a Gryffindor girl she met before from the Chinese new year errand and the way that girl walked seemed like she got hurt. Wasn't that Opeila? I wonder what happened? But then she saw two Gryffindor boys sitting at the table and she knew those boys! Griseldis turned around to face Alan and said, "Alan, there are two people I want you to meet, let's go greet them together."

Griseldis was certain he wouldn't mind, she remembered that Alan once told her that he would try to get to know more new people and it would be good training for him to open up more. She went up to the table in front of them and greeted the two Gryffindors, "Hi, Alan! Hi, Ruka! Fancy to see you two here, how are you guys?"

Every second, another student allured by the promise of house points found themselves entering the small hall, immediately chatting among friends, some more keenly than others. Once in a blue moon, Persephone would question why she and her schoolmates were unknown to one another; while they gossiped and mingled in some inter-house discussions, Persy withdrew defensively in the familiarity of a corner. Others who did the same were oftentimes pursued by overly-nice Hufflepuff students. Very seldom did they do the same for her, and Persephone would quite eagerly place the blame upon others.

A truth that the blonde was not prepared to accept always skulked in her unconscious mind, however; Persephone’s body language often evinced emotions like irritability, and she constantly appeared apathetic. These auras, although not far from honest, were not usually what she aimed for. The Slytherin would rarely admit it, but the atmospheres were the result of her lack of talent in conversation. Besides, she regularly reminded herself, what good does a conversation do anyone?

The darkness she lies in socially, void of all hope and light, was safe. Never was she willed to leave her comfort zone, and no one dared approach her at risk of catching the infection of emptiness. But as time dragged on, Persephone grew weary of the dread, the lack of risk. Her eyes adjusted and it suddenly morphed into a universe of negativity, and desperation swallowed her, begging her to claw her way out of the darkness. It was time, she knew, to join the real world, and do things that she wanted to, escape the straight jacket of a comfort zone.

Perhaps, that was what truly led Persy to the small hall, what felt like hours ago.

But it wasn’t entirely what provoked her to spill tea on the poor auburn haired girl.

Jack spoke to her, and their eyes met for a moment. The stare in her eyes was distant, as if she looked through him instead of at him. Nevertheless, she had heard him and there was no use pretending otherwise, no matter the oddness of the question.

“No. I knew enough.” Her voice, too, remained indifferent.

Opeila, in what Persephone assumed was meant to be an assertion of power, assured everyone that she was off to see about the auburn haired girl. This neither bothered nor intimidated the blonde, as she was acutely aware that this was a pathetic facade; seconds before, the girl had choked in pain at the feeling of Persephone’s stamping. Before the brunette retreated far, Persy turned and spoke, loud enough for her to hear.

“Want me to stamp on the other one and make it even?” The Slytherin didn’t wait for a reply, turning on her heel and chuckling to herself.

What Opeila may have lacked in strength, the brunette made up for in courage. This, Persephone wouldn’t deny, as to her own belief it took great audacity to face her. The small girl still stormed off, helping the victim with the tea, still steaming from the girl’s figure. Persy’s green eyes trailed over to where Opeila had initially come from, spying two Gryffindors and a prefect who had just arrived.

Of course, she thought the Gryffindors had set the small girl on her. Pathetic.

Once again, her body was moving without her mind. With one last glance at Burnett, she marched over to the table the two sat, the boy with the lighter brown hair holding a teacup.  Repetition was one of the many things Persephone found immense boredom in, where’s the fun? Instead, her pale hand yanked the tea away, splashing it on the other Gryffindor boy. Without giving them time to react, she placed her hand on the back of his head, his hair between her fingers, knocking his forehead onto the table with a loud bang.

“Remember that next time you send Opeila on me.”

She was, indeed, going to get detention anyway.

Logan had no idea how to react at this point. She had seen the girl walking up behind Evelynn, but honestly did not think that she was going to throw tea on her. By this point, everyone had gathered around the girl and Logan had completely forgotten about asking to sit down at the table.

Easily, she stepped away from the group and saw Evelynn walking away. She would offer to assist the girl, but she knew that she wouldn't be able to help at all. Slowly Logan walked towards a table farther from all of the chaos and sat down with her own cup of tea.

She didn't want to seem rude or seem that she didn't care, but she honestly didn't think that she was going to be able to help at all. She had barely been able to help at the Liberation club, let alone with a situation like this. She wasn't in the same house as Evelynn either so she wouldn't be able to help her there either.

Logan felt bad about everything and quickly looked around to see if anyone else was trying to stay away from all of the drama. She wasn't the greatest when it came to human interaction and this just proved it to her even more.

"Tch..." Suspicions confirmed, Jack grit his teeth. He remembered the couple of times he had interacted with Persephone before and she had seemed bitter and aloof then, but not outright malicious. Not like now. What had changed? Since when had she decided it would be more fun to hurt people directly and physically than to insult them from afar? Was it the number of people around that had made her suddenly change her tune? Was it the theme of the holiday that prove to be too much? His mind wandered briefly to the mistletoe she had tossed aside around Christmas.

His thoughts were briefly inturrupted by Opeila's sharp words which passive-aggressively suggested he and others didn't care enough about Evelynn. Jack didn't bother responding to the comment. He had already tried to help her wipe up what he could and others like Aurelia had come to her rescue, so he thought it would have been redundant for him to try to help. On top of that, he trusted Evelynn to be able to take care of herself. The way she had looked about to cry right before she made to leave also hinted to Jack that she probably wouldn't have wanted him to tag along after. If she wanted to get away in order to hide her tears, he wasn't about to impede upon her privacy, especially if she needed space for the time being.

At that moment, Jack was more concerned with the source of the issue: Persephone. She had shown she had no qualms about stomping on Opeila's foot, either, and that put the redhead on edge. While Opeila was off trying to check on the Gryffindor girl, the blonde Slytherin could have just as easily struck again if no one tried to understand or stop her. And, shortly after yelling at the retreating brunette's back, Persephone seemed ready to do just that.

She turned to head straight for the table that Opeila had just been sitting at and Jack's eyes began to narrow. No...she couldn't be. He turned to dart toward the same destination, determined to beat Persephone there. Gris was there, along with that other Gryffindor boy...and Ruka.

When Persephone grabbed the tea from the brunet boy, Jack swiftly thrust himself in front of the others, standing in particular in front of Ruka. The liquid poured onto his fedora, soaking through the fabric and trickling into his hair and down the sides of his eyes, but he stood his ground, ignoring the temperature of the hot beverage. Ruka had suffered worse burns than this, he was sure, but he wasn't going to let the fire dancer get burned again; not if he could help it. Besides, what was a little tea?

Glaring at Persephone over the tops of his shades, he reached out to grab her wrist as she reached for Ruka's hair. If he didn't catch it in time, then he would take the blow himself. But no matter what, he wasn't going to let her harm Ruka.

"That's enough!" he snarled at her, his words more full of force and intensity than volume. "Tân and Decipio did nothing to you. What right do you have to try to hurt them?" His words came out like venom and brimstone, a rage building up in him like he hadn't known before. Was this the sort of anger that drove people like Rafael to want to punch others?

Dale watched as Ruthie came over and start to talk to Lark, he didn't mind, In fact, he was a bit glad that Ruthie showed up at a good time. He was starting to feel a bit awkward just standing around, he adjusted his shirt a little and waved to the two girls before walking off. He felt a little overwhelmed, there were a lot of people in the room and he knew... none of them basically. "Oh well," Dale thought to himself, there was never a better time to meet people than now. Looking around the room, Dale could see... there was quite a commotion happening, looked like someone spilled tea on someone, and now... something was happening, not too far away from that was a person sitting alone at a table. Dale kinda recognized her, around the common room and in a few of his classes, she was a fellow Slytherin. Dale sighed and started to walk over to her, it's not like he had anything better to do, he almost regretting coming in the first place. But now that he was here... what did he have to lose.

As he approached her table a terrible chill ran down his spine, something was telling him to turn around and... run, he assumed it was just his nerves, he continued to make his way over to the table. He had his way over to the table, the girl gave off a pretty... the girl gave off a bit of a regal vibe, he felt a little outta place there. "Hey, mind if I sit here?" Dale asked politely. He was impressed when he didn't stutter, it was becoming something of the past now, witch Dale appreciated.

Dale looked behind him, he was a bit concerned about what was going on with the girl, it looked like a fight might break out any second now... He wondered if he should try to intervene and try to help, but he decided against it, he would jump in if things got a bit too heated."Any idea what going on there?"

It was Valentine’s day, and the normally tastefully decorated Small Hall looked as if Hello Kitty had poured Pepto-Bismol all over the couches and tables. Still, tea was tea, and House Points were House Points. Besides, this was the perfect place to get… valuable gossip.

The Gryffindor had no qualms about showing her distaste for the February holiday - she was clad in a plain black T-shirt with black skinny jeans, a plastic choker adorning her neck as she wrinkled her nose at the decor. She was here for information - this was precisely the kind of place where she needed to be; where sparks flew, so did gossip, and she’d need any dirt she could get on anybody she could get it about. Still, she allowed herself to get carried away enough for a pair of rose quartz earrings - more an excuse should Professor Bercegeay decide to question her fashion choice.

Deciding that for once she would try to enter as discreetly as possible, she slunk in like a shadow and…

jumped out of the way just in time to avoid Evelynn, who seemed to be running away from something. Jo stared in disbelief at the fleeing redhead - she was sopping wet and covered in tea!

It certainly wasn’t the warm greeting she had expected, but for the purposes of her visit it was more that what she needed.

Somewhat tentatively, she tiptoed over to a red table and began to rifle through the tea bags, paying careful attention to the words of those sitting down. It seemed the name of the offender was… something Barrett. Perhaps there had been some sort of argument. Jo selected a citrus Lady Grey - a tea she enjoyed for its delicate aroma and subtle tangy flavor.

She reached for the pot, and her fingers slipped around the warm porcelain handle. The fairy vomit pink was starting to give the Gryffindor a headache. Sure, the girl often found herself guilty of overindulging in glitter every now and then, but she enjoyed its sparkle, not necessarily its femininity. This… seemed excessive. Perhaps it was the sickly sweet atmosphere that was causing such disruption and violence - she would have to be careful to maintain composure herself - she couldn’t afford to get dragged into a brawl, especially with the Mr. Potter case going on. She had all but forgotten about the excited chatter going on around her when…

“Fuck!”

Jo fumbled with the tea pot, barely avoiding the sloshing liquid inside as it clattered to the floor. The noise that startled her was a loud crack. She turned abruptly to face the group of students - it seemed as if the bang was indeed a negative physical interaction with a table, courtesy of the blonde Slytherin.

Who else was there? Of course. Jack Burnett. It seemed as if trouble followed the lad wherever he went, although of course it could have been the other way around - Jack caused trouble wherever he went.

The two weren’t doing much to fix their House stereotype at the moment, but Jo knew better than to pipe up with a witty taunt. Instead, she gingerly picked up the teapot and poured herself a delicious cup of tea, picking it up and sauntering to a largely ignored corner of the room while keeping an eye on the chaos. She wasn’t about to leave before things got interesting, but she wanted deniability - She, of course, wouldn’t know anything if she was questioned by a professor. After all, who was there to confirm that she saw anything happen? As long as she didn’t speak up or get involved, she’d be okay. Even if the blonde did assault her, at least she’d get to have a wonderful, delightful cup of tea first.

Suddenly, an event she never thought was possible unfolded in front of her eyes. Burnett had jumped in front of the other students, taking the brunt of the tea for the Gryffindor boy.

Jo stared dumbly at her enemy - the Slytherin seemed much more heroic than her, at the moment. She didn’t even care that a boy was getting hurt. How could she have been so selfish as to stand in a corner and watch?

Right. She wasn’t here to get involved. Who knew what the other Slytherin had In mind. If she stepped in to help, she could be framed for the incident. At least right now she had nothing to do with the pandemonium.

Quinn in a genuine display of kindness did not hesitate to take off his red rimmed, heart shaped sunglasses. Putting them on Nico without a second thought. "There ye go Nico. Should be better though they might be a little big on ye. An Freddie? That's a great name for em. Never be ashamed of it. So loosen up and enjoy ye Tea!" He said in a jovial and relaxed tone. He had every right to be relaxed afterall. Harlin was behaving, he didn't feel as uncomfortable today, and he got to dress up.

However before he could speak more with Jake, his attention was immediately ripped away by a noticeable scream. It was high pitched and he was all to familiar with the sound of pain. It caused him to jolt as for a split moment the unpleasant memories of the Masquerade ball came back to him. In an unpleasant rush of dread. His expression and demeanor for a brief, but noticeably long moment changed. His features grew hard and eyes cloudy. His whole body was tense as he stood up. Taking off his fedora and setting it on the table, he ran both hands through his hair taking in a deep breathe to calm himself.

After half a minute he looked back to Nico. Appearing a bit tired and a tad bit sadder. "It seems there's an issue that needs my attention." Despite trying to hide it, there was irritation but also worry in his voice. With just the barest hints of anger trying to seep in. "Sorry about this Nico, and sorry Jake." Without another word he looked in the direction of the commotion and apparently in the time he had been dealing with himself. A lot transpired and while he was confused he observed and began to walk. Placing his hands in his pocket, Quinn straightened their back rolling their shoulders back. It allowed him to look bigger, and to better emphasize his height.

Quinn missed a majority of what happened but from the corner of his eye he saw an unknown Slytherin helping a small girl. Someone he recognized but barely interacted with as @Evelynn Decipio. A person he mostly knew from SWAG Club. Looking in her direction. He could tell that something was wrong and was her hair wet? Why did she look so hurt unless...

He clenched his teeth and his body began to tense again. If Nico was following him she would clearly notice the change especially the hard look his face now took. Looking back in the direction of where the commotion started. He noticed @Aurelia Notrésvace and a few others he barely recognized. They all did not look happy but rather upset instead. What could have caused this and he hoped that what he was thinking happened to Evelyn wasn't true.

However he caught a girl, Persephone Barret, walking away from the small crowd. Who's attention she seemed to have focused on. Was she the cause of this. Well judging by the looks and now the arguments chiefly by Jack Burnett that he could hear. That was apparently so, especially since one of the things Jack said confirmed his suspicions. That angered him a bit more. However Quinn needed to remind themselves of what happens when his anger gets out of control. So with some difficulty he managed to reign it in as he now began to approach Persephone.

As if answering all his other questions what he saw next shocked him. She headed over to a table. The same table he noticed @Alan Vanes at and with two others he didn't really recognize. Around the same time it seemed @Griseldis Edelhardt also caught wind or at least went to investigate what could be happening. As she had traveled to the table to chat up the three. This however was soon interrupted by Persephone who unprovoked took @Ruka Tân tea splashing it on him.

"This ends here." If Nico was still with him she would audibly here this come from him. Suddenly picking up the pace, it took him a matter of seconds to arrive just behind Persephone and now Jack Burnett. He got there just in time to hear the rest of Jack's spiel. Folding his arms he frowned and stared down at the two. His Jaw tight and it was clear Quinn was in no mood for games. "How about this instead. Why don't you both tell me what's going on here? And you." He turned his gaze downwards towards Persephone. "I want to know why you did this, and what you think you're doing by doing this? Don't try to lie either. You're already in trouble as is." In a rare occurrence Quinn dropped his heavy accent. It was still there but it was light allowing for his words to have a much better impact and clarity.

The young redhead easily towered over everyone in the room at least 2 to 3 times the size of most students there. He wasn't smiling, he didn't look happy, and now his full attention was on Persephone. This would end here.
