Dinner Introductions PV Quincy Q. PV Selim F.

Backdated to the evening of January 16th, 2020, some hours after "Outside Class".
This roleplay is with @Quincy Quicksilver & @Selim Faust
As dinner time neared and several students were seating themselves at their house tables in the Great Hall, Jack sought out Selim. He thought about the Ravenclaw boy he had met earlier that day and how the boy - Quincy Quicksilver - probably would have gotten along with the raven-haired Slytherin.

They both seemed to enjoy experimenting and testing theories as well as learning how things worked. Sure, as far as Jack had seen, Quincy's interest had been in magic and Selim's seemed to be in...well, people, but perhaps they could share each other's interests to an extent and maybe they overlapped. He himself hadn't spent too much time trying to get to know what they did and didn't like, after all.

In any case, Jack had felt a little burned out on social interactions as of late, what with the mess concerning Opeila and his having just met that kid, Ruka. He had also always thought that Selim had needed to spend less time reading in their Common Room and more time amongst their peers, so this was the perfect opportunity to get him to do just that.

Selim seemed to prefer observing than actually interacting with people, and while Jack understood that well enough, he thought maybe some interaction here and there would do the snake some good - such as the time Selim had met with Jackson Kirkland. Also, while Jack had an aversion to making friendships, Selim did not, having stated he thought connections and alliances could be useful. Therefore, if Quincy was looking for a friend, Selim would have been a better candidate than he. And maybe, just maybe, the Ravenclaw would be a good influence on the withdrawn Slytherin.

Once he found the snake, Jack tapped him lightly on the shoulder to get his attention. "Hey, Fangs," he said, "If you're not doing anything particular for dinner, I think you should come with me. There's someone at the Ravenclaw table you might like to meet."

Selim absently ate his sushi, staring down at the notes he had written so long ago on 'The Theory of Immortality'. Usually, he didn't bring such things to something as public as dinner, but, along with his notes being written in Japanese (Allowing some degree of privacy), he was also, admittedly, mildly obsessed with figuring out everything he could about that tome.

He had discovered that past the first introductory page of the tome, everything was written in that same ancient language of his distance ancestors, and written in riddles. Currently he was on his hundredth riddle, and only five paragraphs into the second chapter. His hands, recently, had been practically stained with ink at this point, which isn't unsurprising, seeing as how his nightly escapades into the common room, and every hour of his weekends were spent over that dusty tome with ink and brush (Not too impressive, if you noted that he had only gotten the tome a week ago).

Though, he didn't study the tome in the common room on the weekends, instead he holed up in that abandoned classroom he had found a while ago, no one ever went there, and it seemed the only one disturbing the dust was himself.

Truely, the tome was amazing, going off by what he had decoded. He had discovered many (theoretical and untested) ways that humans can gain immortality, and he wanted to test all of them. He restrained himself though, he'd have to wait to test the fantastical ideas, most likely when he was out of Hogwarts and could fully understand magic.

It was hard to put off though... he was impatient when it came to such things.

He was violently jerked out of his musings when he felt a finger tap his shoulder, and as he had been fully unaware of his surroundings, he ended up acting on instinct. He didn't register what was spoken, mind clouded with adrenaline that always came with being touched unexpectedly or being startled.

Swiftly, he grabbed the wrist of whoever had touched him, swiveling and jerking the limb towards him, and bracing his hand on the incoming chest.

His amber eyes met hazle ones, and the adrenaline clouding his perception swiftly disappeared.

Blinking for a moment, he let go of his dormmate, letting out an exasperated sigh.

"Apologies, Fox, I didn't mean to attack you. Instinct took over." Selim straightened his own robe when he said this, then looked up at the redhead with a raised brow, "Though, I suggest you get my attention by other means in the future. Being touched unexpectedly and when I'm not fully aware of my surroundings garners a bad reaction, as you can see." Frowning, he tilted his head slightly in question, "Did you say something before?"

Idly, he inspected the redhead for any possible injuries after his instinctive attack. His grip was usually much harder then it would seem, given his stature, and he tended to leave bruises on his sparring partners whenever he grabbed and grappled them.

Honestly, sometimes he forgot his own strength...

When Jack's wrist was grabbed and he found himself jerked toward Selim with the other boy's hand on his chest, the redhead's eyes widened. As the yellow-eyed boy's gaze began to focus, however, he blinked, released Jack, and sighed before apologizing.

"Wow..." Jack murmured, blushing a bit as he sneered and took a step back from the other boy. "If I'd known you wanted to be so intimate, I'd have asked you about having dinner together a lot sooner," he teased, rubbing his arm where he'd been grabbed.

"'Being touched unexpectedly'..." he repeated, his grin gradually growing into something more sly. "...Would you call that a 'bad' reaction, though?"

Shaking off the situation with a laugh, Jack hid his arm under the sleeve of his robes so as not to cause Selim more worry than was necessary. He was used to bruises, welts, cuts, and the like anyway, and usually it was due to his own carelessness. This could have just as easily been attributed to the same reason.

"I was saying that you and I should go to the Ravenclaw table because there's a kid there I think you'd like to meet. And it'd be way more interesting for us to eat with him there than to drag him to this boring place." Jack gestured along the length of the Slytherin table. "Don't you think...?"

"Wow..." Burnett murmured, and Selim caught him blushing a bit even as he sneered and took a step back. "If I'd known you wanted to be so intimate, I'd have asked you about having dinner together a lot sooner," the fox teased, rubbing his arm where he'd been grabbed.

Selim inwardly cringed, the sentence giving him a brief flashback to when he was captured, though he quickly smothered the feeling and locked away the memory once more.

"'Being touched unexpectedly'..." the redhead repeated, his grin gradually becoming more sly. "...Would you call that a 'bad' reaction, though?"

He shot his dormmate an unimpressed look, "If I hadn't noticed it was you I would've headbutted you hard enough to potentially knock you out and give you a trip to the nurse's office. I was not intending anything other then that."

He was trained to react in such a way to being unexpectedly touched, paired with his trauma, retaliation ended up being harsh whenever he was startled by sudden physical contact.

He rose a brow, "Though I didn't know you swung that way." He said as an afterthought, tone dry.

"I was saying that you and I should go to the Ravenclaw table because there's a kid there I think you'd like to meet. And it'd be way more interesting for us to eat with him there than to drag him to this boring place." The fox gestured along the length of the Slytherin table. "Don't you think...?"

Selim looked along his table, and then back at his dormmate with a bored gaze. Briefly, he looked down at the notes he had been writing, before sighing in resignation and rolling up the parchment, sticking it in his book bag. "Fine, Fox." he grabbed his plate of sushi, before standing and gesturing towards the Ravenclaw Table. "Lead the way." His voice was a dull drawl as he said this as he looked at the fox with a half-lidded stare.

He wasn't looking forward to socializing, but it wasn't as if he couldn't read his notes later, might as well meet a new acquaintance in the meantime.

The image of an upset Slytherin holding broken quills flashed through Quincy's mind.

"Wait a second - are these mine?! Did you find these on that sill? You were practicing magic on them, weren't you? Just because they weren't yours, you thought it'd be okay to fling them around, is that it?"

Earlier that afternoon, Quincy had met a fellow first-year named @Jack Burnett outside of Charms class. Quincy met the Slytherin in a bit of an embarrassing incident with experimental wand waving, and Quincy flustered through an apology to him. But yet Burnett was calm and reasonable, very unlike many other Slytherins in Quincy's experience.

"You know, there is someone I know who you might like to meet, though. He's also very interested in performing experiments and finding out how things work. His name is @Selim Faust."

Somehow, despite the awkward encounter, it seemed that Quincy had the opportunity to make friends, not enemies, with the Slytherins. Making friends was another out-of-the-ordinary experience for Quincy. Usually Quincy's smug, know-it-all attitude pushed others away.

So there Quincy sat, all by himself, at a pretty empty stretch of the Ravenclaw table. He made a point to sit on the side that was facing toward the Slytherin table, so that he could try to spot his new acquaintance, go up, and introduce himself to Selim. But as he looked toward the blur of green and silver robes, he struggled to make out any faces he recognized. He had no idea what this Faust boy looked like, so it was really a matter of whether he could find Burnett.

I don't see him, Quincy panicked. Maybe he is facing the other way? Maybe he is behind that group of Hufflepuffs standing by the end of the table? Maybe he has not shown to dinner yet? Maybe this is some convoluted practical joke? Does this Selim kid even exist?

As Quincy's social anxiety took the better of him, he imagined all sorts of unlikely elaborate pranks that he could fall victim to. He did not notice as two Slytherin boys began to approach the Ravenclaw table. Quincy sat there staring at the table, twiddling his thumbs and sweating profusely.

"If I hadn't noticed it was you I would've headbutted you hard enough to potentially knock you out and give you a trip to the nurse's office. I was not intending anything other then that."

"Suuuure," Jack teased, unable to help himself at the look on his dorm mate's face.

"Though I didn't know you swung that way."

That caused him to snort. "I don't swing any way, Fangs. I'm a kid. Just let me be." The Slytherin waved a dismissive hand and spoke as if he hadn't been the one to initiate the teasing in the first place.

Jack would have been lying if he said he didn't get any pleasure from @Selim Faust allowing himself to be dragged along with his whims. He could tell the raven-haired student had probably been looking forward to losing himself in whatever book had recently caught his interest, taking notes and making studies, but the snake had resigned himself to socializing with a stranger Jack wanted to introduce him to instead.

Though he dared not say so, he appreciated that Selim would give up his own pastime in favor of doing what his dorm mate wanted to do. If either of them had been the sort to make friends - which of course they weren't - he would have thought Selim would make a good one, and not because he faked it with his politeness and his masks, either. Jack just hoped the meeting between Selim and Quincy would be as worthwhile for both boys as he anticipated it would be.

"Hey, do you know how to make onigiri?" he asked the other Slytherin as they walked. "There are all these Japanese restaurant places I know that sell sushi, but never any onigiri! It sucks."

It was astonishingly easy to find the brunet Ravenclaw. Jack was surprised to find that @Quincy Quicksilver really did sit by himself. Well, that meant more space for them all and less people around to bother them about being noisy or not being at their own house table or anything else.

"Wow, Quick, you really got a nice little area all to yourself, here," the redhead marveled, careful to focus on portraying the vaccancies at the table as a positive thing instead of negative. "What, did you intimidate all the other Ravenclaws away with your vast intelligence? I'll bet Fangs here wishes he could do that." Grinning, he playfully nudged his fellow Slytherin with an elbow.

That was when Jack noticed the beads of sweat on Quincy's brow and the anxious twiddling of his thumbs. Poor kid. Wonder what has him so nervous. Is he still freaked out 'cause we're Slytherins? "So, what is it you're eating for dinner tonight?" he asked, seating himself next to Quincy so the other boy didn't have to feel so alone on his side of the table. "Got any favorite foods?"

Selim rolled his eyes at his dormmate's response to his warning. Typical. Though after his own teasing comment, the redhead snorted.

"I don't swing any way, Fangs. I'm a kid. Just let me be." The fox waved a dismissive hand in response.

Selim smirked, voice lightly taunting as he quoted what his dormmate had said moments before, "Suuuure~."

As they were walking to the Ravenclaw table, the fox spoke up in question, "Hey, do you know how to make onigiri?" he asked. "There are all these Japanese restaurant places I know that sell sushi, but never any onigiri! It sucks."

Selim huffed, "Of course, honestly, it's a very common 'comfort' food, I've made it often before."

They made it to the table, and Burnett made his way to one particular student sitting alone, the kid was sweating bullets, which made Selim raise a mildly bemused brow. Social anxiety?

"Wow, Quick, you really got a nice little area all to yourself, here," the redhead marveled, oddly positive. "What, did you intimidate all the other Ravenclaws away with your vast intelligence? I'll bet Fangs here wishes he could do that."

He got a teasing jab to the ribs, and Selim rolled his eyes.

"So, what is it you're eating for dinner tonight?" He asked, seating himself next to Quincy. "Got any favorite foods?"

Selim looked around wondering where he'd sit, before just sitting across from the two boys, placing his plate of sushi down on the table.

Idly, he studied the other boy with light curiosity.
