Kazuo crept along the silent halls, making his way as stealthily as possible, to the fourth floor. It was precariously close to curfew so he knew that if any of the teachers were to spot him, he'd be ushered back toward the dorms but really, every other time he had come to see the place, it had been full of other students. Cacophonies of noise spilling out into the hallway, chasing him away again.

He'd been delighted to learn that there was a place for artists to practice. He didn't feel comfortable practicing in the House, either disturbing other students or opening himself up to awkward questions. Art didn't seem to be a priority at this school so he had found very little opportunity to play his shamisen since coming here. The rehearsal hall had always seemed to be full of others rehearsing, however, so he was hoping that if he came later at night, it might be empty.

He was right. This close to curfew, barely any students were wandering the halls and none of them on the fourth floor. He approached the rehearsal room and carefully pushed open the door just enough to slip inside before closing it behind him. His eyes travelled about the room, confirming the emptiness before he made his way over to a chair and carefully removed his shamisen from its case. He carefully checked the tune of the strings then began to play...

After a long first day, all Sage wanted to do was go to the dormitories, lay down and go to sleep. Not to mention the fact that it was almost curfew. She didn't want to get in trouble on her first day here. Although she thought she had some time to practice her violin. When she heard that Hogwarts had a Rehearsal Room, she spent a while to find it and when she had there were people in there so she had decided to come back later.

When she arrived she had heard someone was in there too. She wasn't perfect at the violin but she still needed to practice, so whoever was in there would have to deal with it. She opened the door and saw a boy with an instrument she'd never seen before, but it sounded good. "That sounds really good, I've never seen an instrument like that before" she complimented him as she walked in. "Hope you don't mind I come in here and practice a little bit with my violin. I'm not very good but as I said, I'm practicing" she smiled a bit and sat down. "Although I'll only be able to play one song before going to my common room since it's getting late."

He didn't notice, at first, that someone had entered the room. His focus was on his music, eyes closed as he played, believing himself alone and so, for a moment, able to just be himself. Here alone with his music, he didn't have to worry about all the intricacies of who to speak to and how to address them. Of constantly searching for the right words. Of feeling out of place. A fleeting moment of peace that reminded him of where he came from, reminded him of home. As he finished the song, he opened his eyes to see that a girl had joined him in the rehearsal room.

She looked to be around his age, probably a first year as well, he guessed. She was pretty, another redhead like the boy he'd met the other day. The colour still fascinated him and he had to remind himself not to stare. His gaze shifted tot he violin case she was carrying and he smiled a bit. Another musician.

"Arigatougozaimasu," he replied, giving her a slight bow of his head out of habit. "You do not need to ask me... it isn't my practice room..." He added in heavily accented English, a hint of a smirk playing at his lips. "And since it's purpose is for practice, I certainly can't be upset at you for doing so."

His gaze shifted down to his shamisen, lifting it a bit so she could see it more clearly. "This is a shamisen... a Japanese instrument." He explained, showing her the plectrum. "We call this the bachi... I think I was told that it's called a plectrum in English. It's kind of like a guitar pick, I suppose. How long have you been playing your violin?"

Sage took out the beautiful violin from its case. She hadn't been able to practice on the train or before she left the house. She wasn't surprised that it took him a minute for her to speak to her since he was still finishing his song before she had entered. So she just listened in awe as he played until he finished and spoke to her.

"I was only being polite, sometimes people don't want me around. I'm not going to list the reasons why" she said and looked away for a second before reaching down and grabbing the bow for the violin and sighed. She played the strings a bit to make sure that the stringed instrument was tuned and sounded how it was supposed to. She listened to him explain what type of instrument he had and smiled as he spoke. She liked his accent. "How long have you been playing your violin?" He asked her.

When he asked she had to think a bit in order to figure out the answer. Her memory wasn't the best in the world when it came to things that happened years ago unless it was important. "Well, I started piano at six. Then after that, I think I started playing the violin when I was either eight or nine. So about two years now." She smiled at him. "Would you like to hear some?" She asked and looked at him as she was ready to play.

He tilted his head to the side, giving her a curious look at her response. It seemed to him, from his observations of his fellow students, that many of them were made to feel out of place for spurious reasons. She made it clear that she didn't want to expand upon the topic of why people might dislike her so he resisted the urge to poke at it, as much as he wanted to. "I have no issues with you. We've only just met, after all." He finally settled on the reply as he watched her take out her violin and tune it.

It was a beautiful instrument, he couldn't help but to admire it. He had always liked the sound of the violin, had almost chosen it when his parents asked him what instrument he would like to learn, but the sound of the shamisen had called to him more.

"Ahhh, so you're still learning? I started learning when I was six as well but only this one instrument. Please, you came here to practice, don't let me distract you." He gave her a slight smile, nodding at her to play. It was nice to meet another student who played music but part of him wondered if she played because she enjoyed it or because her parents expected her to. He held his shamisen loosely on his lap as he watched her, waiting for her to begin.

She smiled softly with a nod as listened to him speak about almost picking the violin himself. When he said he didn't mind her practicing, she smiled with another nod and sucked in a breath before she paused and looked at him "I'm Sage by the way" she said with a smile before she started to play. Moving the bow across the strings as she moved her fingers to hit the notes. She closed her eyes as the song start, moving her body along with her movements on the instrument, bending and twisting as she got lost in her own world of music.

The melody was sweet and soft, it would've sounded better with piano but she knew the notes to both of those instruments to moving along with the song wasn't an issue. She loved the song and the sounds that came from the violin. Her movements moved at a steady pace as she played and there was a soft smile on her face as the sounds she wanted came from the violin. Eventually, she had to move faster and the notes sounded higher as the song went on. After a few minutes, the song ended and she sighed as she opened her eyes and looked at the boy in front of her.
The song being played is: Violin Sonata in A major, FWV 8: Allegretto Poco Mosso
