First Transfiguration Lesson
Sienna's fingers were shaking as she held onto her wand. It was her very first lesson in transfiguration and her belly was full of butterflies, both of excitement and nervousness. She looked at the glittering metal whistle lying on her table and kept trying to form its image in her head. Whistle... watch... she uttered to herself, as if by force the image to stick.
Professor Kane’s words came to her memory like an echo: “Concentrate. In your mind, visualize the transformed object. The wand is merely the connector.” She sighed heavily, pointed her wand upward, and made the motion with her wand swift and decisive.
“Whistle… to… watch!” was her utterance, which was a bit louder than her usual tone.
There was a pop sound that was barely visible—but the result was not apparent. Fear overwhelmed her. She attempted one more time, vigorously twirling her wand, this time envisioning the small parts and the dial of a real watch. Out of the blue, the whistle quaked, glimmered and enlarged with a cloud of multicolored smoke. When the smoke cleared, there lay a weird-shaped, melting-looking watch on her table. Its hands were running very fast and the ticking was very off, as if the object was making fun of her.
The blood rushed to Sienna's cheeks. She staggered and stared at it in disbelief. It’s… alive? she asked in a very low voice. The ticking got louder, more uneven, and somehow it was very impatient. She grabbed her wand, not knowing whether to use it for another spell or just leave it alone.
Professor Kane’s piercing eyes searched the whole room. Sienna lowered her head a little, took a deep breath and thought that he must not have seen her. She was able to hear the very regular tick-tock, the uneven clicks of the gears that were reluctant to settle.
After all, there was still a small, almost imperceptible, but still there, thrill running through her ribs besides the shame. She did perform magic. It wasn’t flawless by any means, but it was hers. That little weird-shaped watch, ticking in a disorderly manner, was the evidence that she had passed the first gate—she was starting to understand what it really meant to have a wand.
Sienna’s grip on her wand became even more firm, her eyes gleaming with the light of resolve. She promised herself that next time it would be perfect.

First Transfiguration Lesson
Makaio surveyed his very first batch of brand new First Years. This was his first chance to shape a group of students from day one. The week had been a bit of a rough start, as was expected. Understanding magic was difficult and then being able to perform it was even more so. He, therefore, did not anticipate anyone being able to cast successfully so early in their wizarding careers.
One student, however, stood out from the rest - one Sienna Miller if he wasn’t mistaken. Ms. Miller had attempted to cast a spell, not with the correct incantation but with the common spell name. Even more shocking than that was the fact that her wand responded to her. That was some real wizard-wand synergy that he had not expected from someone so young. Predictably, however, the spell definitely failed. One cannot cast a spell on the name alone.
“Ms. Miller. You’ve done a great job so far. But,” with a flick of his wand he returned the melted watch back to a whistle. Professor Kāne then presented the watch back to his student, watching her carefully. “Why don’t we try again, but this time, use the correct incantation - Tunc Sibilus. Make sure to focus on the pronunciation as well.”

Sienna Miller nodded, her face showing a blend of embarrassment and resolve. The other students had stopped talking, their curiosity having more strength than their tiredness. This was the very first time any magic had been performed in front of their eyes, even though it had gone a bit wrong. Makaio could feel the air getting heavier with excitement, the power of youth latent like a storm about to break, surrounding him.
Once more she brought the wand up, the gesture being somewhat hesitant but not lacking in bravery. "Tunc... Sibilus," she uttered slowly, as if she was tasting the words. The wand was shaking in her hand. Makaio also tilted his body forward, his sharp sight heaving an extremely faint glow that must have been the beginning of the magical coil around the wand—very thin threads of silver and gold, as if the sun was rising through the mist.
There was a moment when he thought that she was actually going to do it. After that, with a loud pop! the little bright thing broke, thus the small wind that came with it ran through the room. A few papers were scattered off the desks, and a student shouted as his quill magically falling into his lap. The whistle, though, stayed there without even a little movement.
Sienna breathed out, very disappointed. "I—I thought I had it, Professor. I'm so sorry," she said.
