the great hall was buzzing with excitement and nerves. candles floated above the long tables, their flames flickering gently, and the enchanted ceiling mirrored the night sky outside. clouds drifted across stars that glimmered faintly. first years clustered together, whispers running through the crowd like soft waves. anfisa stood among them, her hands folded neatly in front of her, back straight, calm. she felt a small flutter in her stomach but didn’t show it. she had been waiting for this moment her whole life. she had imagined it a hundred times — the robes, the floating candles, the sorting, and now it was here.

professor stepped forward, robes brushing the floor and began calling names. each student walked up, sat on the chair and waited for the sorting hat to decide their house. some returned quickly with bright smiles, others stayed a moment, muttering under their breath about where they wanted to go. anfisa watched them silently, noting how some first years seemed nervous, others proud, and a few even tried to whisper to the hat, pleading for a specific house. she didn’t need to plead. she knew herself and the family she came from.

“rosir, anfisa,” professor said, voice calm but carrying through the hall.

anfisa stepped forward, her robes falling smoothly around her, the hem brushing the floor. she sat carefully on the chair, keeping her back straight. the hall fell quieter now, all eyes on her. she felt the hat touch her head, soft and cool, and then heard a voice inside her mind.

“ah, a sharp one,” the hat said, almost amused. “clever, proud, and careful. you have ambition, yes, and a sense of strategy. you could go far in slytherin… but you are brave too, and determined, a little daring. you could do well in gryffindor. hmmm, what shall we do with you?”

anfisa thought silently back. she didn’t hesitate. she knew exactly what she wanted.

“slytherin,” she thought firmly.

“very well,” the hat replied almost immediately, a small chuckle in its voice. “you will do well there. cunning, careful, loyal in your own way, proud and disciplined — yes, slytherin suits you perfectly.”

the hat lifted, and the hall erupted again. some first years were cheering, some whispering, but the slytherin table clapped loudly, some students whistled, others smiled knowingly as she walked to their table. anfisa nodded politely, acknowledging the welcome without a word, and slid into a seat. she felt the eyes of the other slytherins on her, curious, evaluating, but she didn’t mind. she had grown up used to attention.

she took a moment to look around the table. the candles above cast a silver glow, the green and silver colors of the house vibrant in the light. she caught the subtle nod of a student sitting a few seats away, and returned it with a quiet, composed smile. inside, she felt a small spark of pride. slytherin. it was perfect. it meant ambition and proudness everything her family valued. she felt a flicker of excitement at the thought of the years ahead, the lessons, the challenges, and the quiet victories she would claim.

as the sorting continued, she let her eyes wander to the ceiling, the clouds drifting across stars, and felt the thrill of belonging. she wasn’t just any first year; she was a rosis, and now she was a slytherin. she had taken her place where she belonged.

for the rest of the ceremony she stayed quiet, polite, attentive, taking in every sound and movement. she noticed the way some first years fidgeted nervously, the way others whispered to friends, and even the way the older students watched from the tables above, measuring, judging. it was all part of the world she was stepping into, and she was ready. when the headmaster spoke, welcoming the students to hogwarts, she listened closely, her mind already turning over possibilities and plans. everything had begun, and she felt certain that slytherin was exactly where she needed to be

Aeron entered great hall with other 1st year. He looked up and saw sky-like ceiling, him of course heard about this from his nannies who studied at Hogwarts. All eyes were on first years, some slytherin students already recognised Aeron. He didnt question house he will get,he knew since very childhood that he belongs to slytherin.

aeron patiently waited his turn not paying too much attention to others. but when he heard is name he stiffened, slowly he went up and sat on stool, hat was put on his head and closed his eyes. he waited a second maybe two then he heard the hat’s voice in his head muttering something about courage and pride and something else he didn’t catch he frowned courage? that wasnt right he wasnt scared of anything but that didnt mean he was a gryffindor right he could feel his heart beat faster under his robes this wasn’t how it was supposed to go

then it said it loud enough for everyone to hear
GRYFFINDOR!

the hall cheered somewhere to the left but his mind went completely blank for a moment he sat there frozen the sound didn’t even make sense it felt like someone else’s name had been called not his he didn’t move until someone gave him a little nudge and he stood up stiffly his hands cold

as he walked to the gryffindor table he could feel the slytherins watching him he didn’t look back he didn’t need to he already knew what kind of looks they were giving half shocked half smug the gryffindors were clapping and smiling,he felt irritated. he sat between two of them and they greeted him like they were his friends,he just gave nod and got back in his thoughs

he could still hear it in his head
gryffindor
maybe it was mistake, maybe hat didnt sit long enough to understand

but after a while when the next students got sorted he glanced at the table around him they were loud and messy and smiling but not in a bad way someone passed him a plate and said something about how great it was to be in gryffindor he didn’t reply just gave a small nod and tried not to look like he wanted to disappear

still inside he couldn’t stop thinking about it maybe there was a reason maybe the hat saw something he didn’t maybe he’d figure it out later but right then all he felt was confusion and a bit of anger mixed with something he couldn’t quite name yet

Pure Blood, Pure Power

Sorting Ceremony 2025 - 2026
"Ravenclaw!"

The world felt still for a moment. Meave had this feeling in her gut that she couldn't quite place. She felt somewhere in between relief and disappointment. It felt as if her entire life had led up to this moment, and now, as she experienced it, it felt lacklustre. Those days she spent daydreaming of the moment the hat was placed on her head now seemed pointless. She wasn't sad or angry about her sorting; she just felt indifferent.

Aware that she was in front of hundreds of people, she put on a smile and walked over to the Ravenclaw table. She was welcomed with hugs and cheers, people congratulated her left and right, yet something still felt off.

Her older brother, Liam, sat across the Great Hall with the other Slytherins. Somewhere deep inside of her, Maeve expected to join him tonight. Every single person on her Father's side was a Slytherin, and though it was never outright stated, Meave felt a sort of expectation that one day she would join them as well. But, instead of running to her brother's side, she spent the rest of the ceremony surrounded by strangers.

She wasn't disappointed in her sorting; she felt a sense of pride in her newfound Ravenclawness. Her mother was a Ravenclaw, her mother's mother was a Ravenclaw, and so on. Maeve came from two long lines of wizardry, and she knew her parents would be so proud of her regardless of what house she was sorted into.

As she settled in, shaking everyone's hand and embracing these random strangers that she knew would one day become her family, she looked for Liam. And of course, he was staring straight at her, grinning from ear to ear and clapping. She knew he was proud and that everything would be alright. Those feelings of worry seemingly washed away, and she broke out into a genuine, authentic smile, knowing that this was her new home.

Stepping foot into Hogwarts for the first time was like stepping into a fairytale, literally. The castle was exactly like what his parents and sister had described, and he knew that for the rest of his seven years, this would be his home, and whatever house he was sorted into would be a part of that home. Leo walked down the center of the Great Hall with the other first years and smiled when he saw his sister, Annabeth, sitting at the Slytherin table. She smiled back at him, making his heart swell with happiness. Leo then directed his attention back to the center, where a stool stood with a worn-out brown hat on it. It opened its mouth and began singing a song, which Leo assumed was the school's anthem. He loved how the older students joined in with the hat, knowing that next year he'd be singing this anthem with everyone else. Finally, the sorting began, and Leo waited patiently. When his name was called, he looked at his sister, who gave him a thumbs up, before he sat down on the stool and had the hat cover his view.

"Ah, another Casper, I see." Began the hat, before it continued, "I sense a strong determination in you. I also sense ambition and resourcefulness. Oh, but there is also wisdom and loyalty here." The hat paused before asking, "Hmmmm, where to put you?" A minute or so passed by before the hat exclaimed, "GRYFFINDOR!"

When the hat was removed, Leo slid off the stool and looked at his sister, who frowned but smiled softly at him. Leo knew that Annabeth wanted him to be in the same house as her, and he did too. But maybe the hat saw that Gryffindor would be a better option for him than Slytherin. With his thoughts, Leo went to the Gryffindor table and sat down when he found an open space at the table.

It was as beautiful inside as it was outside, but in a different way. Although the room was wide and the ceiling high, the floating candles above their heads, the long wooden tables, and the fact that the room was filled with people (with very few empty spaces) made it cozy and welcoming.

Nora looked everywhere, reading people’s faces, the joy, the anxiety, all of it, drowning in a sea of voices and feelings. There was so much going on in that room that she barely had time to acknowledge herself. That would have to wait until later, probably while she sketched some of what she had seen since she arrived at Hogwarts.

Then she heard her name being called, and someone made a small motion with their head, signaling for her to walk to the front.

Nora sat on the chair and felt the Sorting Hat being placed on her head. Then it started to speak.

Oh, oh! Someone is excited! That’s good, that’s good… You should be. You are ready for an adventure, I see… Well, adventure you will surely find, no doubt about it. But there’s more… You can be a good friend; the most loyal, I’d say… Mmm… Not even you know how far you’d go and the things you’d do to fight for those you love. That’s a powerful thing many overlook… Ancient magic, the greatest of all, and you have it in you. Oh, yes… It can change everything if it finds a place to land… I know exactly where to place you. HUFFLEPUFF!”

Nora had no idea what that meant. But she was going to find out soon enough. Then she felt her stomach growling again.
I hope there's cheese... , she said to herself.

The‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Great Hall was sparkling under a sky of stars, with candles floating like little lights above the tables of the four houses. The Sorting Hat was lying proudly on its stool, its patches shining a little in the light of the candles. It moved when the hall became quiet. From its large, twisted mouth it gave a deep, loud song."

**"Listen, young hearts and minds,

I can even see what destiny binds!

Four houses strong, each brave and true,

May find their mates—maybe in you!

Gryffindor, of a bold and brave soul,

Who’ll rush straight to get their goal;

Ravenclaw, with intellect so bright,

The one who seeks the truth all night long.

Hufflepuff, the kind and the just,

With the most caring of hearts, and patient too;

And Slytherin, the clever artist,

Who can turn power, brain, and heart into a dream of success?

However, I sometimes have to consider things and even come to a halt—

As it might even be that one could support all four houses’ causes.

So now put me on your head,

I will then decide your future path!”**

The sound of clapping spread through the room, but after the noise had died down, a silence fell again. Leo Fenwick stepped out from the crowd, his hair a mess and eyes shining with excitement but also uncertainty. He took the chair, and the Hat went on his head.

Sorting Hat: “Oh… Leo Fenwick. I have been waiting for you.”

Leo: “Waiting? You don’t even know me.”

Sorting Hat: “I don’t? The moment I put the hat on your head, I see right through you. Let’s see… bravery—you have loads of that. You’d do the right thing by anyone, even if you were absolutely terrified.”

Leo: “That sounds like Gryffindor, doesn’t it?”

Sorting Hat: “Yes, it does. But wait a moment—there’s more. You have an inquisitive, curious mind. Forever questioning and never satisfied with the answer 'just because.' That’s a typical Ravenclaw.”

Leo: “I do love to learn… but not only for the sake of books. I want to use it—to bring about change.”

Sorting Hat: “Yes, ambition! That faint Slytherin voice in your heart. You don't only want to have the knowledge but also the impact. However, I can also see the loyalty here—you’d never betray a friend to help yourself get further. That’s what Hufflepuff is all about.”

Leo: “So I have a bit of each one?”

Sorting Hat: “That's right. Bravery, brains, loyalty, and ambition—these are the four qualities, rare and even dangerous if mixed in the right way, that you possess. You would make a great fit in any of the houses, Leo Fenwick.”

Leo: “Then… where is my place?”

Sorting Hat: “Being a member of a certain house doesn’t mean you are limited to that place; it’s really about where you’ll develop. You are a person who looks for challenge, discovery, and the thrill of understanding. It’s certainly best...”

(The Hat was silent for a moment, then smiling, it looked up.)

Sorting Hat: “SLYTHERIN!”

The cheers came from the green and silver side of the hall.

As she was walking through the hallway alongside the other first year, Rose was getting nervous and was feeling a mix of several emotions at once but at the same time impatience to be sorted out was undeniable. Without realisation all the first years stopped in front of the stool where The Sorting Hat was resting and a teacher stood in front of the pupils with a list in her hands and start calling names out.

"Rose Pearce" the voice echoed in Rose's ears as an alarm calling her to reality. She walked up to the stool and sat there, more nervous than ever as The Sorting Hat was being placed on her head. She was now facing all the students and she looked over the Ravenclaw table where she saw a dark auburn haired boy straightening himself to carefully look at her and pay attention. It was her brother Ewan, in third year. Even though he was quite afar she still could feel his encouraging and reassuring gaze. She thought whatever the outcome of The Sorting Hat her family would be proud of her -eventually-. Nevertheless, she had a preference. Indeed, her father was Ravenclaw as her brother and most of the wizards in her father's family were also a Ravenclaw. Whereas her mom was a Gryffindor but her family didn't get a predominance for one House in particular.
Deep inside she might have wanted to be like her mother since a lot of people were telling her she looked a lot alike her, that was only physically. Rose didn't have the braveness of her mom making her almost sure she couldn't be in the Gryffindor House. She then hoped for to be in Ravenclaw since she thought that was in her family for several generations now.

"Oh Ravenclaw, I see,..." Rose heard the Sorting Hat. "Then...The best choice would be..."

Rose got chills all over her body as she awaits -seemed like hours- the final choice.

"Ravenclaw" screamed The Sorting Hat followed with the cheers of the Ravenclaw table.

Rose felt such a relieved and brightly smiled as she headed towards her House Table where she smiled at her brother who looked fully proud and content before seating down on the bench.

Once Tatiana stepped into the hall, a million thoughts buzzed in her head all at once. What if she wasn't sorted in the right house? If so, then what was the right house after all? What if her mére and pére weren't happy with what house she was sorted into? What if their family really did have a set house and only she didn't know? Her mind travelled back to their conversation with Mamori, the pink-haired Hufflepuff who looked like he belonged to a circus. He said that Hogwarts was a vast place filled with surprises, and even if you're so sure of what your house will be, think twice, maybe another was waiting for you—or at least that was what she remembered.

As she scanned her peers, she could see some were awfully pale, some boasting to others about what house they were sure to be in, and some were huddled with their friends, whispering among themselves, apparently afraid that their whole lives will change once they were placed in different houses. Tatiana felt a sort of loneliness once she saw the last batch, she had never thought once in her whole day about making friends at all—well, unless you consider those two she met on the train. They might consider her as a friend, sure, but to Tatiana, they are just merely a part of her story that she needed to take care of in order to move forward.

The process was slow, yet strangely satisfying. Tatiana had fun guessing which houses her peers were to be placed into, but once the sorting hat's mouth broke open and came the words, “Contraire, Tatiana,” she knew that it was the end for her. She climbed the stairs with jelly legs, feeling as though she might drop any second, and sat still on the wooden stool as the hat was placed on her dark curls.

“Ah, yes,” it said, Tatiana felt a sudden need to erase out those certain qualities that made her seem weak and not fit for a capable house, yet the har seemed to see through it all. “Hmm, trying to cover some things up, eh?,” it teased, “Well, then let's uncover it if you seen so eager,” Her face immediately went hot as she felt the hat unravelling her brain later by layer, revealing Tatiana's most vulnerable parts. But the hat didn't see these as weaknesses, but as strengths.

It pondered for a moment, just a moment, before crying out, “Hufflepuff!” A loud applause immediately came from the table laden with a long yellow banner against its gleaming wooden table, and many faces smiled brightly as Tatiana made her way to the table, shaking hands as she sat.

The Great Hall was loud and bright, more magnificent than Daniel had imagined. The flickering candles hung from the ceiling without limit, the tables were set with only empty, golden plates.

When his name was called, Daniel took a breath and stepped forward. He sat down. The Hat was placed on his head and slid down to cover half my head.

Daniel heard a voice in his ear:

Wow! This is difficult! You have plenty of courage… You have no lack of intelligence… You have pride and a desire to prove yourself! How wonderful! So which house do you want me to put you in?

Everything around became silent. Daniel's heart beat faster. A moment passed. He felt as if the Hat could see through his confusion. He remained silent.

“All right. I see a strong mind. “Intelligence, loyalty, and pride. “You belong here…”

The Hat said:

“GRYFFINDOR!”

A cheer rang out from the Gryffindor table. Daniel stood up, took off his hat and walked down the stairs to the delight of his fellow Gryffindors. After chatting with his seniors for a while, when he turned around, he realized that the plates that were empty just a few minutes ago were now filled with food. And so he enjoyed a little fun with everyone before embarking on a new journey.

As Althea entered the great hall, she was taken aback by just how beautiful it was. Candles floated all around her, casting a warm glow across the room. As she looked up at the ceiling, she was speechless. It seemed almost invisible, as though there wasn’t one at all. Every star in the night sky was visible and shining so bright above her.

Her brother had told her how amazing Hogwarts was but she always assumed he was exaggerating. In this moment however, she realized he was telling the truth.

She followed the group of fellow first years to the front of the hall. As they walked down the center aisle, she took in her surroundings, she saw four long tables stretched across the room, full of excited students whispering and pointing. In front of her sat, who she presumed to be, the Headmaster watching them with a kind smile.

She patiently waited her turn to be sorted and hoped she wouldn’t be first. Thankfully, she was near the middle of the group giving her time to prepare. As she stood watching her fellow classmates get sorted, she began to feel extremely nervous. What house would she be in? Ravenclaw like her parents ? Or Gryffindor like her brave older brother? Neither of these choices felt like her. Suddenly, she was taken away from her thoughts.

“Althea Grey,” the Headmaster announced.

She gulped and made her way to the front as she sat on the stool so many others had before her. The Headmaster flashed her a reassuring smile as he placed the sorting hat on top of her head.

“Hmm, very interesting,” The hat murmered, “You seem to be rather intelligent. I also see that you are very kind… Better be…. HUFFLEPUFF!”

The table on the far right of the room erupted into cheers and Althea smiled to herself. As she made her way over to the table, she made eye contact with her brother. He smiled proudly at her and she felt a wave of warmth.

“Come sit here!” One student called out.

“Yes, join us!” Another replied excitedly.

Everyone was very excited to see her and she couldn’t help but feel slightly overwhelmed with all the attention she was getting.

“Welcome!” Said a young girl sitting next to her. “It’s nice to meet you.”

As the night progressed, Althea talked with her fellow housemates over plates of delicious food. By the end of the feast, she already felt at home. It was shaping out to be a rather good start to the year.
