There was at least one wonderful thing that had come from having wandered the castle recently inbetween classes and that was finding the old Rehearsal Room. It had been a good spot for naps and sketching, quiet time and even a spot for Lark to study. Today however she was set on a different task. Ruthie's Birthday!
After having drilled the girl for information a week after finding out when her birthday was, Lark had enlisted both Elz and Dale to help her make some paper decorations and gather anything else they would need for the occasion. It had taken some time to gather a list of close friends Ruthie had so she could write up an invitation and owl each one. She had also managed to trade some chores for help from the elves to get some sweets and even a small cake, simply frosted with a pale blue and small flowers to decorate the top. It didn't feel like much, Lark wished she was able to do more... all her letters home begging for items had so far been denied or ignored. There were some chairs set up at other small tables in the room and Lark had been sure to dust every inch of the room, at least the spaces she could reach. Small bottles sat in the middle of the three tables filled with lavender and other flowers she had managed to get her hands on. She had pulled out a bench alongside the cake table and set her present on it and card, a large sheet of paper that she, Elz and Dale had drawn Happy Birthday on with stars and small doodles of glittery puffins.
Working ahead of her homework for the weekend meant Lark had been free all morning to start setting up the small paper flowers and hanging paper chains Elz had put together, Lark knew she would owe her big time for all the help. She pushed one of the tables in front of some of the mirrors that hung on the wall, she assumed they were for some sort of dance practice as a railing was bolted to the wall as well. The cake sat placed in the middle of the table on a dark blue table runner Lark had borrowed from the Ravenclaw Common Room. Adjusting... then readjusting the stack of plates, utensils and other treats that had been displayed alongside the cake, Lark nervously waited for everyone to show. She needed some help hanging the rest of the decorations so hopefully Elz or Dale would show and give her a hand before Ruthie arrived! She wanted everything to be perfect for her friend! After the Ball Ruthie had become close to Lark and she wanted this party to show her just how much she appreciated the fellow Ravenclaw. Even if it meant a small lie about meeting in the Rehearsal Room to help talk Quidditch strategy for their next game. Lark just hoped all of the people would cheer Ruthie up and not spark any lingering trauma from the Ball. Today was a day for celebration!

Birthday Bash!
@Lark Flaer
It was a rather happy Thora, with flushed cheeks and sparkling green eyes, that bounced up the long staircase up to the fourth floor. For once, it wasn't a facade to cover up hurt that seemed to never leave, nor was it a mask to hide her exhaustion. No, she was in a good mood. Things were finally starting to look up, even if only a tiny light was all that was visible at the end of the dark tunnel.
Honestly, though, the second year's homework load hadn't at all lightened, but had just worsened through the year. The weekend was always Thora's time to play catch-up, and she had definitely needed the time this time around. It was almost like the professors enjoyed creating a pile of work taller than most of the students. Not only was the length of the essays they were required to write ever-growing, but it was clear that they would need to start putting more work into all of it.
Trying to drive the prospect of the long library visit she would need to finish her History of Magic homework and the third-year charm she'd been studying the previous night out of curiosity out of her head, Thora felt her smile beginning to slip. She really was busier than ever, but one could only have so much. Coming from the lower end of society's classes, it was a lesson she'd quickly learned. Never to take things for granted.
Thora knew that she would never take her friends for granted. It was awfully boring and tiring, being alone, while she was used to that solitary lifestyle. Friends really were the joy of her life and they were precisely why the girl found herself pausing at the landing of the fourth floor to take a breather. It did an awful number of steps to ascend all the way from the dungeons, after all.
It was Ruthie's birthday. Thora couldn't help but feel bad that she hadn't organized the birthday party, the blonde being one of her closer friends, but she'd definitely given it a thought. So as she brushed her right hand along the polished banisters, her left hand was clutching a small package wrapped in royal blue paper. It had dawned on her that she didn't know Ruthie's favorite color, but at least if she used the deep blue, it would be quite Ravenclaw-typical.
The Slytherin was incredibly thankful that Lark had the heart--and time--to organize a surprise birthday party, as she would've felt bad if the young girl's birthday wasn't even recognized. Birthdays only occurred once a year for each individual, and back home in Dingle, the Larkstons had made each and every one special. Though Thora didn't know many people, she did care about those she befriended, and missing out on a birthday was something she wouldn't wish on anyone.
The invitation delivered to Thora by owl had stated the location as the Rehearsal Room. It was a room among others that she never wanted to enter again, and a strange place to hold a party. But still, it was cool that Lark had thought to hold the celebration outside of her common room, where many students, Thora included, wouldn't have been able to access. And funny enough, it had been in the Rehearsal Room where she'd met Lark, among a couple other new faces.
Cautiously pushing open the door, Thora's green eyes widened as she took in the beautiful paper decorations adorning the sparkling-clean room. It was nothing short of amazing, given that the first year had only had that morning to prepare. "Hey, Lark, right?" The small girl who stood in the middle of the room was quite pretty and had reddish-gold hair. If Thora's memory served right, it was Lark who had organized everything and who'd apparently gone to lengths to make it the best party ever.
"Great idea you had for this, by the way. And the room looks amazing," While she was still smiling widely, Thora felt almost tongue-tied as she searched her brain for word after word to string together. Talking hadn't been this hard for a while, but sometimes her body had a mind of itself. "D-do you want me to do anything more?" Thora had only brought her sketchpad, a pencil, and her wand with her, and her lack of preparation brought more nervousness, more uneasiness. But she could do a lot with her wand. Still, if only she'd had a mind to think about where she was going before leaving her dorm.

Birthday Bash!
Charlie wasn't sure what the make of it when he found an owl swooping down to him. He wasn't used to that, nor was he used to the contents of the message he'd received. A surprise birthday party wasn't something he was exactly used to hearing about, much less being invited to one. He did have a soft spot for Miss Greer, though, and whomever Lark Flaer was- well, he was happy to attend a party for a friend.
He wasn't fully sure of where he was going, he'd never been aware of a 'Rehearsal Room' in all his times he'd roamed the castle in his off-time, but he followed the instructions and took every twist and turn he was meant to take before coming upon a set of doors, the sounds of a couple of voices just on the inside-- and the faint smell of sweets told him he was most likely at the right spot. Though, his nerves seemed to get the better of him as he reached for the handle, knowing he probably didn't know a soul who'd also received an invitation to the surprise party.
He had to shove all those nerves away, though. He might not know anyone else at the party- but he did know Ruthie, and it was her birthday.
He pressed the door open and nearly gaped at the strung decorations inside. It was a rather beautiful sight, especially for him (easily impressed by the work of others, he hated to admit) and followed the bounds of paper decorations and flowers which adorned the makeshift scene. He couldn't help the smile on his face, it was a wonderful little scene.
He saw two others in the room, neither he recognised, and shifted a little at the entrance, unsure of what to say, given he was apparently early. "The decorations look lovely." He managed to start with, unsure of who of the two was Lark, his thick Texan accent becoming very apparent with his nerves. "This is for Miss Greer's surprise party, right?" He then asked. It would've been terribly awkward if this wasn't.
I bid you adieu, until we meet again of course!

Standing with her back to the entrance, Lark was going over all of the decorations once.. more.. a fifth time. A bit neurotic but the girl had always found some sort of comfort in obsessing over details. "Cake... drinks.. cups.." She muttered softly to herself. Hearing the door open to the room, Lark turned hoping it wasn't Ruthie yet.
"Hey, Lark, right?"
Her golden eyes settled on a familiar small girl. She had met her before in the same room not long ago. "Hey!" Lark waved a hand in greeting and walked over to Thora. "Thank you!" She peered around the room and was glad at least someone had found it a job well done! She noticed the gift in Thora's hands and offered a kind smile.
"Want me to put that with mine? I figured we could keep them all in one spot." If allowed Lark would gently take the present from the girl and place it next to hers, if not she would motion towards the handful of other hanging decorations still left to put up. Balloons had been something she couldn't get her hands on unfortunately... "If you want ta help me hang some of those up? I sort'ov was doin' it along but another set of hands would be fantastic!" Grabbing another long strand of blue and white paper chains, Lark held them up. "I had figure we could levitate 'em up and hang off the fixtures?" She half asked wondering if the girl would have a better opinion on where to hang them from. She didn't want to overdo it but Ruthie deserved the best! Putting a finger to her chin Lark looked around the room once more. "I'm not sure.. what do you think?" She turned one of the tissue paper flowers over in her hands considering where else to put the last of the decorations.
"The decorations look lovely."
Lark's attention was pulled away towards the entrance, a boy with somewhat curly blonde locks stood looking at the two of them. The accent was not one that Lark was familiar with and instantly she was curious as to where he was from... Was this the infamous Charlie? A wide grin spread across the girl's freckled face, her hair shifting to a deeper honey blonde color as she walked over to the boy and held her hand out.
"You're in the right place! I'm Lark." She would offer her hand in a friendly greeting before turning back to Thora. "We're just tryin' ta get some of the decorations up last minute if you wouldn't mind helping?" She was glad the two had shown up and even more grateful for the help.

Dale woke up and scrubbed his eyes, he looked around trying to remember where he was... the library, he remembered going to take a nap in the library, it had been a pretty slow morning, and his dorm mates were being a bit too rowdy... yeah that was it, he put his head back down and got ready to drift back to sleep, but for some reason, something was telling him he was forgetting something... probably just a paper or an upcoming test, nothing too important, he closed his eyes and drifted to dreamland
"RUTHIE!" Dale suddenly remembered it was the day of Ruthie's birthday, and he had promised to help lark set up for it. He quickly shot up and scooped up his bag, tossing it over his shoulder, he took a glance at his watch, phew he still had a solid 10 minutes left before he had to arrive at the party.
Dale started to make his way over to the rehearsal room, on the way there all of the adrenaline from forgetting about the party had all but worn out, and Dale was once again tired. Dale made his way through the corridors of Hogwarts going a flight of stairs and then walking some more until he came upon the all familar doors of the rehearsal room, He had been going there a lot, mostly just to use the piano to practice.
Dale walked in to see just about 3 people in the room, he sighed to himself relieved that he wasn't that late, he saw Thora, he had met her before, Lark, and a guy he didn't know. Dale walked over to Lark, "Sorry if a little late..." Dale said a little sluggishly, "Still need help with the other decorations?" Dale waved at the other guy "Hi, I'm Dale." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a birthday card, a generic one he bought from Hogsmeade, Had a picture of an owl on the cover, he handed it over to Lark, "For Ruthie... I didn't know to get her so... Dale said sheepishly. Dale had prepared a much... messier surprise for Ruthie, but that was for later.

Birthday Bash!

Cormac climbed up the stairs, alternating off-key whistling and out of tune humming while taking the steps two at a time. He felt happy. Very happy, indeed. It had been a while since he had last attended a party and he wasn't one to turn down an opportunity to enjoy some good ol' cake and a nice chat. Lark's owl had been a pleasant surprise, considering he had only learned about Ruthie's birthday just a couple of days before.
Ruthie was a likeable character, a friendly girl; Cormac had gathered as much from the short numbers of encounters they had shared so far, and so he had decided he couldn't possibly show up without a decent present. Hogwarts, though, offered its young students a quite limited range of options when it came to purchasing a gift. He had thought about asking a third-year to run an errand for him at Hogsmeade, but then again, besides sweets, Hogsmeade-bought presents didn't get too original. Eventually, he had engaged himself in a chain of exchanges (one chocolate frog for this, two gobstones for that) and had managed to get his hands on what he considered to be a 'pretty decent' present.
He now walked with the wrapped object clutched in his left hand, making some real effort to remember where the Rehearsal room was supposed to be located. Once he was half-convinced he'd reached the correct door, he pushed it open and found a bunch of kids already in there, talking and hanging paper decorations. They had done a great job, that was for sure.
"Hello," Cormac greeted and proceeded to put his gift next to where a little pile of presents had been placed.
Out of the four kids, Cormac only recognized Lark. If he had happened to see any of the other three in the hallways before, he certainly didn't remember.
"This looks real pretty," he commented, glancing around. "I'm Cormac, by the way," he turned to the ones he didn't know. "Pleasure to meet you."

Birthday Bash!
It was the birthday of his first-ever friend when he came over to Hogwarts: Ruthie. He was excited and happy that he got to meet and be friends with her. He was even invited to the party. David headed to the that direction and went to the party. IT was going to be a great time for him to even surprise his friend and to meet other students and make new friends along the way at the party.
David arrived at the party and began to look around. He surveyed the area for the party and noticed that the party room was amazing. He was in awe. He wondered if and anyone would be talking to him. He decided to keep quiet for the moment as he liking the area for the party. This was going to be a very fun party, to hang out and had some fun. However, it was not all about him, it was all about Ruthie, his friend, his very first friend. So he wondered if anyone would want his help in decorating the place for the birthday bash or just to hang out and talk for the time being before Ruthie showed up for the party.

Birthday Bash!
This would be the first time for Griseldis to participate in a surprise Birthday party for someone, of course, this someone wasn't just someone, it was her Ravenclaw friend, Ruthie Greer. She was owled by a girl called Lark, also a first-year Ravenclaw like Ruthie and one of the members of the frog choir she recalled. It took the Gryffindor Prefect a dew days to think a suitable gift for Ruthie, she thought that maybe she can give her a Chinese knot lucky charm to give her good fortune in the future and might help her to avoid bad things to happen to her if possible. So she wrote a letter to her mother and asked her to bring her one of those Chinese charms, she later got aย red knot lucky charm for Ruthie.Interacting with @Lark Flaer @Thora Larkston @Dale Kurt @Charlie Woodward @Cormac McCarthy @David Young
Mentioning @Ruthie Greer
The downside of being a Prefect, you had to do your patrol duties every single day. Griseldis did her best to finish her patrols as fast as she could and luckily, the areas she patrolled had no bad incidents for her to deal with. no fights, no students using spell without permission, no students stealing ingredients from the Potion Professor and no breaking random items. After she was done with her patrols and reported to her Head of House, she ran as fast as she could to go back to her dorm room to get the present. Good thing that the Rehearsal room was only a floor below the Gryffindor Dormitory and it didn't take her too long until she finally arrived at the destination.
When Griseldis entered the room, everything seemed very well organized, at least it looked neat to her. She saw there were a few people has already arrived, and aside from Lark, Dale, and Thora, the rest were new students she hadn't meet yet. Will there be more students coming to celebrate Ruthie's Birthday party? Griseldis thought, but perhaps time would tell soon. She quickly went to greet the whole group, and waved at them with a cheerful smile, "Hey you all! I hope I'm not too late!" Then she turned around to look at the other three students and introduced herself, "And hi, I don't think we seen each other before, my name is Griseldis Edelhardt, you can just call me Gris. It's really nice to see other friends from Ruthie."

@Lark Flaer @Thora Larkston @Dale Kurt @Cormac McCarthyElzabeth ran up the stairs in a panic, she was supposed to be helping Lark with a surprise Birthday party but getting some of the other decorations took longer than anticipated. Elzabeth had her usual case of insomnia last night and decided to use that time making other little paper decorations with some Construction paper left in the dorms.
She had all but forgot about them ten minutes ago and promised Lark that it wouldn't take her long to get them yet here she was, running up stone steps like some demon was chasing her.
She huffed, almost tripping over herself on the way through the door. "Woah!" What an entrance Elz, good job.
She looked up, her cheeks turning pink at the sight of other people. "I- uh, brought some more stuff, this place is going to look great!" She shook off some of the looks, smiling through her embarrassment.
"I know I said It wouldn't take five minutes but a group of second years were stuck at the door and they wouldn't let me guess the answer," Elz grumbled. They had thought she to wouldn't get the riddle correct all because she was younger than them, a bit ridiculous honestly.

Birthday Bash!
Jake didn't go to birthday parties very often...In fact, he'd never been invited to any in his life. He wasn't sure he minded that so much though. Birthday parties seemed like a place where a lot of kids were - and most of them he probably wouldn't know.Interacting with @Lark Flaer
But Jake liked Ruthie. She had helped him learn how to fly - or...she had tried. When their lessons had started Jake had clung to the broom and sobbed he'd been so frightened. But she hadn't made fun of him or lost her patience. The last time they had met, he had gotten to the point he never thought he would. Jake had been low...low enough that even if he had fallen on the grass he couldn't have hurt himself...but his feet WERE off the ground, even if just barely, and slowly he had managed to control the broom and glide. He had been stunned, and his eyes had raised with shock and pride to meet Ruthie's, and he had seen the same pride reflected back in hers. 'I'm doing it!' he had shouted, and it had been one of his proudest moments since arriving at school.
How could he not come on her special day? He walked into the room a little later than some of the others, and tried his best not to think about all of the kids he didn't know, and ignored the impulse he had to turn right around and walk back when he saw them. Instead he steeled himself, and braved the walk to Lark, the girl who seemed to be in charge of the whole thing.
"H-hi...." Jake said shyly at the girl who he didn't know as well. "Um...I-is...I-is this Ruthie's party? I didn't tell anybody about the surprise. Promise...!" he added. "I...I made her this..." he said softly, holding up a card that he had drawn himself. "U-um...W-Where should I put it?"
Jake was proud of his card - he had worked hard on it. It was large and home-made with Ruthie's name on it...and inside it was a boy and a girl flying on brooms, carefully drawn, up high above the trees in the sunlight - a large and vibrant "12" beneath them. On the bottom he had written "Happy Birthday Ruthie! Thank you for teaching me to fly. Love, Jake."
