"I don't think there would be chaos," Jack answered calmly. "I think everyone pretty much already does what they feel like doing. We can try to convince and cajole, but in the end, you can't really 'make' people adhere to any moral code, collective or otherwise. No one can make anyone do anything, so it's the same as now. Unless you consider society now to be chaotic."
The redhead laughed mirthlessly at her comment about dark wizards. "You're right. My mistake. I don't believe anything in the world is simple enough to divide into dualities like 'dark' and 'light' or 'right' and 'wrong'. So no, I don't believe in dark wizards and I don't believe in 'good' or 'bad' either. As for being at Hogwarts or not, that wasn't my decision to make. Take it up with the Headmaster if you don't think I should be here." He shrugged. "No one ever said Hogwarts wasn't a place for dark wizards. In fact, didn't one of the worst ones in history supposedly attend here...? Moldy warts?" A bit of a smirk upturned the corner of his mouth.
However, Jo's reaction to his addressing her as 'Lioness' caused Jack to nearly stumble backward in shock. It hadn't been the first time he had unwittingly prodded at something he hadn't meant to, though, and he wondered what kind of nerve he had struck and why. Now didn't seem the best of times to look into it further, though. He thought Jo and he had had enough of each other for the time being.
But her following words really made him wonder. It took him a minute before he could respond. "I suppose there probably aren't that many psychopaths. Just a lot of people who have different ideas of what's right and wrong while expecting others to share in them. And a lot of people who act like psychopaths wishing they were." He sighed heavily and gave Jo a bitter smile. "I'm not trying to be 'cool', no. But I don't want to delude myself into thinking morals are easy to pin, because they're not. I think most people are morally ambiguous even if they don't realize it."
Jo's final question about being her study partner made him raise a brow. He didn't answer immediately.
"There may not be a need for you to point it out every time, but there are still ways you can phrase things to sound less like you think you know it all. Whether you mean it or not, it kind of gets on my nerves, and I'm sure I'm not the only one." Turning his whole body toward her, he crossed his arms. "Why do you want to be study partners? Do I look like the kind of person who studies to you?"
