Picking On The Nerds
OC Note: I don't mind rolling for successes and damages and all that jazz.He was tired of listening to crazy, insane people in his class. What the hell did they think they were doing? No one knew more than the true Professor of that class, that was for sure. Especially not someone who had been reading history books for nearly ten years! He had told two students in his class to see him afterwards.
Sure, he had another class coming soon but what was more important than the satisfaction of seeing someone fail. Especially at his own dispense. With his ever-so-strong muscular arms, he pushed, with great struggle and grunts, desks so that there was a space up and down the middle of his classroom for him to monitor.
When done, he whipped out his wand and used the scouring charm on the chalkboard, watching the chalk residue wash off. These students needed to address him before he could start anything. It was mandatory. As the chalkboard was now clean, he picked up a stick of chalk and inscribed the following words onto the board, "Du-tention"
A combined word for both duel and detention. No, the two students were not stuck in detention, this was simply just a "talk." A compulsatory duel, if he dared say so.
He wrote down the instructions on the board. "Say hello to me. Walk to either ends of the room and have your wands prepared. You are duelling each other."

The entire lesson had been, for lack of better words, boring. What did she care about the History of Magic? What's in the past should be left in the past. Besides, it would be easier to pay attention if the Professor was more interesting. He just seemed.. cold. And weak, at least physically.
Boredom must've shown on her face, because the Professor told her to see him after class out of nowhere. She honestly couldn't imagine why. What did she even do? Her roommate, sure, it didn't surprise her that she would be acting up. But her? Milica did not know how to respond to this, so she supposed giving the Professor a death glare throughout the rest of the lesson would suffice.
When class was over, she noticed Professor Break trying to move the desks aside in order to make space in the middle. "What the hell is this about..", Milica whispered to Cecilia harshly, accidentally redirecting her anger at her poor roommate. "Did you get us into this?".
Before soon, it was clear that this detention became a 'du-tention'. Milica rolled her eyes as the Professor wrote this down on the chalkboard. Du-tention, really? How original. He wrote down instructions on the board, but Milica was not having it.
"This is such bullshit", Milica scorned before walking to the end of the room, not greeting the Professor. Making a disgusted face, Milica took her wand out before following up on her earlier comment. "Well then Cecilia, it seems we must listen to Professor Elmo Blech".

xxxxxxxxℑf Cecilia had to describe the History of Magic in one word, it would be bleak. She had truly tried to find some merit in the class, but the content was drier than the parchment she drew on while tuning out the lecture. There was hardly any knowledge that seemed applicable to her, and the professor possessed the rare talent of making dragons sound dull. She may have yawned once or twice, perhaps even entertained the thought of resting her head on the desk, but that hardly justified being held back after class. Her eyebrows immediately arched in response to Milica’s accusations. “Me?” she mouthed defensively, forefinger pressed against her chest as her eyes widened in disbelief. This was hardly her fault. Perhaps if she had been caught gossiping or passing notes, she could have accepted a punishment with more dignity, but for once, Cecilia felt blameless. “Maybe he used legilimency,” she whispered while leaning in closer to Milica. Cecilia paused for a moment and began to recall all the rude thoughts that filled her mind during his lecture. Boring. Useless. Unnecessary. Merlin, spare me from this torture. However, she was soon interrupted by a horrific sound. The chalk screeched as he wrote something on the board. Cecilia narrowed her eyes as she read the word. 'Du-tention' was nothing more than a string of nonsense that might have sounded clever to a toddler. “That’s not even a real word,” she grumbled and folded disapprovingly her arms with a huff. Her comment stemmed from pettiness rather than pretentiousness, for in all honesty, Cecilia hardly cared about such semantics. ────𓃦──── Unfortunately, it did not seem like the professor would change his mind anytime soon, and it was safe to say that he was not in his right mind. Did some entity possess him, or was he simply a fool by nature? It was hard to tell. Her gaze then softened as it drifted to Milica. Cecilia had no desire to duel her roommate. If she made the wrong move, all her efforts to ease any tension between them would have been in vain. On the other hand, if she failed to exhibit any skill, then her roommate would perceive her as weak. She glared at the cruel man pointedly. This dilemma was his fault. However, there was little she could do about it. Milica was right – they had no choice but to obey. Who knew what punishment awaited them if they defied him? Cecilia could potentially bear it, but she had sworn that she would keep Milica out of trouble, and Merricks always kept their promises. With a sigh, she promptly turned around on her heel and begrudgingly walked towards the end of the room. She brandished her wand and glanced over her shoulder. Her steely-eyed gaze fixed on her roommate as she tightened her grip. “Let’s make this quick, Milica,” she said firmly with a nod. Her tone was now serious, and any remnants of a playful grin faded as she pursed her lips. “I refuse to entertain Professor Bleak for longer than required.” The duel was yet to begin, and Cecilia had already grown tired of the clown who masqueraded as a respectable professor. |

Picking On The Nerds

He stared at the two nerds in his class. One looked like she was frailer than a squawking chicken running for their lives, the other just looked outright dreadful. This match was going to go so well and in his favor. He could tell already. Elmo just sat down at the edge of his desk and demanded for them to start, and shortly afterwards, he watched Cecilia, the squawking chicken, bust out a dance, a bodacious move that all MJ fans seemed to know step by step, the dance from Thriller Night.
How drab.
He wanted to liven that up but the girl was about as motivated as a defunct train, at least based on his perspective of her attitude. He reached behind him as the dancing girl cast Incendio on the dreadful girl, Milica. Medusa, that should've been her name. Made him feel stone cold disgusted with her lack of excitement for duelling and for this class. How horrible.
She was hit with the flame while Elmo grabbed a jar of moonshine, unscrewed the cap and met the mouth to his lips and took a quick swig, not enough to make him feel anything, but enough to parch his drying throat. "Horrible. Go again." He demanded outright but with a more repulsive tone. "If you fail to hit hard, you will fail my class, no if ands or buts." He whispered low.

In the beginning, she actually believed her when Cecilia said Professor Blech must've used legilimency. She herself couldn't think of another possible reason why the two deserved detention. It was also quite amusing when Cecilia followed up on her play on his name, making up an ever funnier one herself. Why the Professor had no response to it, she had no idea. He was like a psychopath, uncaring and loving chaos.
Once her roommate took out her wand, Milica's grin disappeared. It was for real now, the two were actually dueling. Her first duel ever. In truth, Milica knew she stood no chance against Cecilia. While her roommate was raised around magic in a pureblooded household, Milica actually learned her first magical spell only last month. Besides, she had quickly noticed that her magical talent was lacking, to say the least. This was an issue she hoped would fix itself, but she was pessimistic about it. One couldn't just obtain talent, they are born with it.
Still, practice makes perfect. Seeing the effects of the spell she cast, Tarantellegra, cheered her up slightly. At least the spell worked, even though it didn't seem to have much effect. Her roommate dancing around the room was a fun thing to see though. If only she had a camera, she would've loved to film this. This would've been the perfect way to shut her up if she was being annoying again. Missed chances aside, Milica wasn't sure whether she actually wanted to hurt her roommate. Sure, she didn't want to lose, but she was finally making her first friend who's not her parent or her pet. This duel wouldn't ruin that friendship, right?
Her thoughts turned around 180 degrees once Milica found herself on the receiving end of a mighty Incendio spell. She actually started rethinking the entire situation. What if her roommate set this up on purpose? Wanted to make some sort of an example of her? She must've somehow figured out that she lacked some magical talent, and somehow gotten the psychopathic drunkard professor into it. Legilimency, my ***.
Thanks to this realization, Milica's demeanor changed. Where she first came off as angry and confused, a calm but fierce piercing glare now showed on her face. She would show Cecilia that she would not easily be messed with.
Well, she would, but it was clear that she was fighting a losing battle. The best way to cope with this feeling of losing was immediately obvious to her. Project her anger towards Professor Blech. "You know what, Professor?" Milica started saying in a calm yet unsettling manner, "You're not just boring and weak, you're also a foolish drunk," she finished darkly, anger clearly present. "One day I'll get you back for this, I promise."

xxxxxxxxℭecilia’s eyes widened in horror as her legs began to spasm uncontrollably. Though it was rather amusing, she was somewhat taken aback by how gentle Milica had been with her. Meanwhile, powerful flames flared from the tip of her wand and danced around her roommate. “I’m sorry,” Cecilia blurted out, her tone laced with genuine concern that she did not deserve to feel. Was Milica angry? Or hurt? Maybe both. Either way, this was her fault. Even though she still could not pinpoint a reason as to why they were being punished, Cecilia knew the blame likely laid with her rather than her quieter counterpart. Cecilia then cast her mind back to the first day they met, recalling how the girl expressed a desire to not be set on. Technically, she only cast flames at the girl; she was not exactly on fire. She had even followed the rules of a duel and used what was deemed an appropriate spell, yet knowing that failed to provide Cecilia with any comfort. A pang of guilt struck her. Had this been anyone else standing before her, Cecilia would have certainly made a clever remark, but this was Milica, of all people. She won’t hate me, right? Worry seeped in while she bit her lower lip. Milica had expressed many grievances towards Cecilia, such as how annoying it was that she spoke too much or too fast. Or how her intense colour choices often irritated Milica's eyes, but she had never outright expressed any detest for Cecilia. If she had, it had clearly gone over her head. However, that could all change now. Her brows furrowed slightly and she let out a deep sigh before parting her lips. ────𓃦──── “Milica,” she said sternly, using what could have been the most serious tone she had ever slipped into their conversations. “Genuine friendships cannot be sullied or fractured by something as simple as a duel,” she said slowly, her seafoam eyes searching the girl’s dark grey irises for a sign – any sign – of mutual understanding. Although the words she spoke were mostly for Milica, it was as though Cecilia attempted to comfort herself as well. “You must not hold back if you want this to be over soon,” she said, her gaze now softening. “We will be fine, so do your best – Or should I say worst?” she encouraged, the corner of her lips slightly twitched into a half-smile. She watched as the girl’s confused gaze dissipated – her eyes were now brimming with determination. “That’s more like it,” her mouth stretched into a wider grin. Admittedly, her stare nearly sent shivers down Cecilia’s spine. Despite the chill, she felt strangely comforted to know that her roommate would not be going easy on her. Perhaps it would be easier to salvage the remains of their budding friendship if they both went all out. Or they would walk away, entangled in a bitter rivalry. Maybe she will never speak to me again, she thought sullenly while pursing her lips. The possibility made her stomach churn, even if part of her felt as though it would be justified. Her eyes then darkened as her gaze drifted over to the drunken fool who got them into this disaster of a duel. It was a pathetic sight, watching him take another swig of her liquor. Perhaps they would get lucky and see him collapse soon. She rolled her eyes when he forced them to continue. How dare he control them like puppets? Her annoyance was swiftly replaced with anger. Though she was rendered helpless in that moment, Cecilia was seething with rage. She would remember this. “You’ll rot for this,” she swore scornfully, her tone low and her gaze piercing. “Coward.” |

Picking On The Nerds
o.O.o.O.o.O.o.O.o
Elmo stared at the two girls. The pipsqueaks. Weird. Grimy. Horrendous. That must be why they were in his class. Weirdos stick together or something like that. No, he knew why they were truly there, they didn’t have another History of Magic professor in his place, to teach the same class that he was not actually teaching in a comprehensive manner.
Oh well. He took another swig. This man seemingly could not have enough swigs. Medusa was able to aim her spell quite accurately, at least according to this old-young man’s eyes that had enough resentment in his life, only to be piled on with more from these girls.
Now, he thought about it, and every time he had to watch someone pathetically try to run away or dodge from an incoming spell, he would take a swig and boy would he not be as drunk as he wanted to be.
People seemed to be much too brave, too willing to take strikes and suffer from pain while the few that do dodge only choose not to attack out of fear of hurting others.
Weak.
Elmo knew this was weak. Man up and take the pain like a sledgehammer to a nail.
The man, not red and furry nor with an orange nose and huge eyes, just stared at the pathetic insult from the mouth of the black-haired girl who landed quite a fantastic shot against her counterpart.
He looked over at the rotting message and just lifted his hand and did the yapping gesture, with his four fingers coming down on his thumb like a mouth yapping.
He got up, walked up to Cecilia’s face and crouched down. He looked her in the eye and made a little snapping movement with his finger, and she would find herself flying backwards, but it wasn’t as bad as Elmo could’ve done normally, no. There was some form of resistance, and Elmo wasn’t sure how she did so. He was planning on knocking her out for the sake of giving Medusa some confidence in herself.
"Oh... how terrifying. Two little witches swearing vengenance while I finish my drink?" He stood up and turned back towards his desk, sitting on the corner and crossing one of his legs over the other. "Should I be.. terrified?" He grinned, his teeth unwelcoming, his breath identical to his teeth.. repulsive.
