The weather was strange today. Fyriel liked these type of days. In the shadows, cold and dark like a winter morning. In the sun, warm and sweaty like a summer’s afternoon. The kind of weather that was perfect to go for a stroll. Therefore, that day Fyriel decided she was going outside. A change of routine as she usually stayed in to read her books. She still took a book with her outside. She wandered to the Great Lake. It felt as the perfect setting to read in peace as there were not many other students there that time of day. Fyriel sat down on the grass, a safe amount of space away from the Great Lake because she knew how clumsy she was. She was not risking coming near the water and falling in or worse, dropping her books in. Out of her bag, she took a thermos flask. It was filled with hot chocolate milk with a touch of honey and cinnamon. For some unexplainable reason she had packed two cups this morning. Perhaps she was hoping to meet new faces. Her eyebrows met in a frown when she put the second cup back in her bag. “I’m not really the social type to randomly ask people to sit with me...,” she thought to herself. She had made herself and her mum a promise, she would try to make friends and go on adventures. So she corrected her thoughts: “If someone comes by I’ll invite them.”
The grass was still dewy from the night that had passed. It was early in the morning before class; she wanted to start her day early and productive instead of sleeping in late. Today Fyriel wore a vintage woollen cardigan on top of her black school skirt. The cardigan was red and warm, and had a high collar. Her black hair was tied in a small ponytail at the back of her head, with a few loose strands to frame her face. Her cheeks were red from the cold air that grazed her face, the red flush stood out against her pale skin. She was glad she did not wear her Hufflepuff scarf as well, although there was a cold breeze, in the sun it was quite warm.
Fyriel was, in some ways, not like the other students in her dorm. On a cold day like this, she was the only one to walk around in a skirt. The other girls kept asking if she was cold but it didn’t bother her. She was used to working outside at home. Even on freezing mornings, she would help her dad to feed all the fantastic beasts they kept. Fyriel had her book on her lap but her mind had wandered off again. To her home and family this time. Her mind drifted so far from the present, she was barely aware of her surroundings. Her bright purple eyes admired the sun rising above the Great Lake. Even though Fyriel was a tad homesick, still no sunrise could beat the one she saw right there and then.

Erik had been turning from left to right to right to left once more. For some reason he was wide awake and as much as he tried, it didn't seem like his body would fall back asleep. Ugh, why does this always happen to me?!, he thought annoyed at himself. Some futile attempts later he tossed the blankets off of him with a groan and started to collect his clothing scattered around his dorm. Erik put on a simple white T-shirt, a ripped black jeans and his green and silver scarf as he went out the door, making his way towards the Great Hall for some very early breakfast.

Half an hour later the Slytherin found himself wandering aimlessly about the grounds. Lost in thought he had taken in the nature surrounding him. Letting his heightened senses roam around freely whilst he kept on walking. He dreamt about his homeland Norway. How he loved to roam around freely in the forests with some friends. What he wouldn't give to have a few minutes alone on those snowy plains. But alas, he wasn't there. Scotland, however was beautiful in its own right, but it didn't come near the beauty that made Norway. It was chilly outside, but Erik didn't feel it. He was used to far colder climates. Abruptly he got ripped out of his thoughts by the smell of... Chocolate? How in the world was he able to smell the chocolate from here at the great lake all the way from the castle? That can't be right., he thought to himself as the werewolf followed his scent to find a lonely girl sitting in the dewy grass with nothing, but a bag to accompany her. The Slytherin silently made his way towards her as he stood behind her spoke: My, my! A Huffle all by herself? What a rare treat. I haven't seen one of you guys by yourselves. Tell me, where are your friends? That's kind of you guys thing, right? Friendship and all that? As to emphasize his words he started looking around.

In a flash Fyriel turned her head towards a voice behind her. She wasn't expecting anyone else this early around the Great Lake. She saw a boy, in a white shirt, ripped jeans and a scarf in Slytherin colours. It seemed she was not the only one in Hogwarts who wasn’t bothered by cold weather. She felt a bit agitated; it sounded like the boy was mocking her because she sat by herself. However, she remembered the promise she made; to make friends. Therefore, she would try not to let it annoy her too much. “I do have friends, they are just… not around.” she told him with a not-so-convincing voice. She tried her best not to make it seem like she was possibly the only Hufflepuff in Hogwarts who didn’t have any friends to hang out with. “I was just enjoying the quietness until you came along”, she told him with a cheeky smirk on her face. Fyriel hoped the boy could laugh at her joke or else it would be very awkward on her behalf. Her eyebrows raised when she asked him; “What are you doing here so early anyway?” She hoped he could not tell she was lying about her “friends”. It’s not as if she’s had a lot of time to hang out and socialize, she had plenty of books to read up on. It sounded like she was trying to convince herself more than anyone else.

At the sound of his voice the lonesome Huffle girl turned her head at him. To Erik's astonishment, she didn't seem startled at all. She doesn't scare easily. Noted., he thought. Immediately the girl seemed to be on the defensive. Which told the perceptive young man more than she had wanted to give away in the first place. The Slytherin boy spoke in a playful tone. Oh, I merely asked where your friends where I wouldn't dare imply you were a friendless Huffle! That would be like a fish on land. A freak of nature as you could say. He analyzed the girl in front of him closely. Erik looked intensely with his venomous green eyes at her like he could see through her, if he only looked long and hard enough. The werewolf had let her know he had seen through her charade, but in a playful way.

She went on to make a little joke at his expense. A trademark Erik did appreciate. She even asked him what he was doing here. You're bold and curious. Two very dangerous traits. I like that. I can work with that.

Well, not that it's any of your business, but I couldn't sleep and I went out for a stroll. I don't like to be confined between four walls. Hence me being here, of course, but if you rather have me leave. By all means don't let me stop you. Erik took a few steps backwards with his hands raised out of his pockets and his palms facing her all whilst having a broad smile on his face.

A peculiar feeling passed through Fyriel. She could not quite pinpoint why but the boy had a noticeable vibe around him. She was usually good at reading people but for some reason she couldn’t with this Slytherin. She blamed it on his remarkably green eyes. It was funny for her to see someone else with such bright eyes, she hadn’t come across any others yet.
Fyriel noticed the green-eyed boy had clearly seen through her cover-up as to why she was sitting by herself. He joked about the stereotypical habits of Badger bloods (as she liked to call Hufflepuffs). She felt bad about reacting so self-protective before towards his remark. She giggled at his joke and curiously listened what he was doing there. He hinted he would leave her alone if that were what she wanted. As he stepped backwards to leave her be, he smiled. Fyriel liked being alone but she found this accidental encounter a nice one.
With a slight blush on her cheeks and her eyes towards the grass, she invited him to sit with her. “Well you could leave… but then you would leave me all by myself with this huge bottle of hot chocolate milk.” She held up the grey flask that had a plume of steam coming out the top. “And I’m not sure that’s very responsible of you to have a lady drink this whole bottle by her lonesome.” she spoke in a theatrical voice. The words hadn’t left her mouth for a full second or she regretted saying them. ‘What if he thinks I’m odd? Why would he want to hang out with a complete stranger at the crack of dawn? I Always act so weird when I'm nervous' She glanced up to his face and eagerly waited for his reaction.

As the Slytherin was analyzing the lonely girl it seemed she was doing the very same thing. That's when he noticed her eyes. They were mesmerizing to say the least. He had never met a person with eyes like that. Those bright purple eyes seemed to entrance you if you looked long enough. You're as remarkable as odd, young Huffle. Erik figured she wasn't your general Hufflepuff student, you might encounter during your school career here at Hogwarts. No, she stood out. Even if she didn't realise it just yet and that was reason enough to keep the young man's attention.

Naturally, Erik smirked as his irresistable, charming self had taken the upper hand again. He had already disarmed her. He could just tell by the way she looked at him. Well, that or it was his own ego making him see things. Erik one, mystery girl zero. As the scent of hot chocolate milk wafted into his nostrils, he simply couldn't resist. Well, it's not like I have anything else planned, so don't mind if I do take you up on your offer. Besides a Tharaldson is basically the very definition of the word gentleman. With that he laid himself on his right side down in the grass with his head resting on his right hand. His right leg was spread out and his left arm was resting on that same side's knee next to the Huffle.

So, what's your name, Lonesome Badger?, he said with his most disarming smile playing on his lips.

A bit surprised the Slytherin boy took her up on her offer, she nodded towards a patch of grass next to her. He laid down with his head rested upon his hand. She didn't expect him to feel so comfortable around someone he had just met. At least his appearance showed he was comfortable, or perhaps he was very good at hiding his nerves. He didn't look like someone who got nervous that easily so she didn't buy that. Fyriel was better at this socializing thing than she expected. She hadn't tried it out that much in the past, she was too shy to start a conversation. This slytherin boy, who called himself Tharaldson, had a different effect on her though.
As Fyriel took in his words, it came to her she didn't even know his name. Tharaldson was it? "So, what your name, Lonesome Badger?", he asked Fyriel. Her eyes grew bigger when she heard him label her the Lonesome Badger. "Lonesome Badger? That's what you're going with?", she replied in a disbelieving tone. While she said that her face turned red again and she smiled shyly. She didn't mind the nickname he gave her. It was quite fitting anyway. "My name is Fyriel but you can call me Fy if you want, most people do. Yours is Tharaldson? Do you have a first name to go with that or is it just Tharaldson, like Madonna?", she joked and grinned at him. While Fyriel questioned him she grabbed the second cup out of her bag and poured him some hot chocolate. "I hope you like it, it has a dash of honey and cinnamon, it's my mothers recipe." She handed him the cup of milk and put the flask in her bag to keep it warm.
Some time had passed since she took her place at the great lake that morning. The sun had risen and there was a clear sky today. Well, the definition of 'clear' in Scotland was of course very different than anywhere else. Here it meant there were plenty of clouds at the horizon but they weren't showering them with rain yet. The day had only begun, there was a big chance they would get soaked sooner or later. Fyriel took a sip of her hot chocolate milk, it still being a tad hot she blew on it to fasten the cooling process. Over the rim of her cup she stared at the Slytherin.

When she referred to him by his last name he cocked his head at her. A blush turned her cheeks red and a sheepish smile played on her lips when he had given her a nickname. It was adorable to say the least. Of course! It might change later down the road, but for now I'll call you that. Well, Fyriel, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Erik Tharaldson, last living heir to the Pure-blood family Tharaldson., he said whilst reaching out his hand at her.

As she smiled at him, he couln't help, but smile himself. It almost seemed contagious. He nodded his head in a thank you as he accepted the cup of hot chocolate. Tell me though who or what's a Ma- Madonna, was it, right? Yeah, what's that? He took a big swill of his hot drink as he looked at her. Had she just insulted him? If so, why? He hadn't done anything out of the ordinary except for being his usual brash self. But he had been polite and they had been joking a few minutes before. There didn't seem to be any reason for this. Just to be sure he pulled up his walls and was cautious. The werewolf would be choosing his words carefully from now on. He slightly squinted his eyes as he looked at her.

Fyriel accepted her new nickname. It was the first she had even gotten, it could've been worse. It could have been better but also worse. The boy with the disarming smile reached out his hand to her like a real gentleman. "How chivalrous. Nice to meet you Erik. The Tharaldson family? I haven't heard that name before, is it from around here?", she asked as she took his hand in return and shook it.
He smiled at her after seeing her shy expression. Fyriel was perhaps a little stupified by his green, viperous eyes. Could I ask him how he got them? Or would that be completely intrusive? I need practice with mingling, I have no idea what I'm doing... Fyriel's mind had sunk away as it so frequently did. When she heard Erik investigatingly asking her who or what Madonna was, her thoughts got pulled back to the present. "Oh right, you're from a pureblood family so you have probably never heard of her. She's a famous singer in the muggle word, she's known for her music but she's also very bold. I'm not a huge fan but you can't be half-blood without knowing Madonna..." Thinking about what she just told him, Fyriel wondered if he would mind she wasn't a Pure-blood like him.
She had heard that some people in the magic world could be very insisting on only being friends with 'true' wizards of pure-blood families. Fyriel got a little tense now. She fidgitted with her fingers on her cup of milk in expectation of his reaction. Those acidgreen eyes had their effect on her again. Why was it so much more difficult with this guy? She couln't read it off his face what he found of her. He squinted his eyes at her. He's probably realising the mistake he made of accepting my invitation. He's about to get up and scurry off with a flimsy excuse to leave, Fyriel imagined. She let out an almost unhearable sigh of dissapointment, before he had even replied to her explanation of who Madonna is.

As they shook hands, she complimented him for his manners. Of course, that's a given when you're talking to a pure-blood. My parents didn't raise no animal. Can't say it surprises me that much, but it's a tad disappointing you haven't heard of my great family. As you might have guessed by my accent I'm not from around here. I hail from a small town named Tønsberg in Norway. Erik opened his mouth like he wanted to say more, but abruptly stopped as he bit his tongue. Careful now, Tharaldson. Don't give more information than you absolutely have to. You don't know her... Yet. He merely smiled at her. It looked like she wasn't paying much attention until those bright, almost intrusive feeling purple eyes locked back on their target. Their target being the Slytherin in front of her.

When she explained who Madonna was Erik nearly choked in his big swill of hot chocolate milk. Naturally, his grip around his cup became stronger as his body tensed for a mere second at the mentioning of the word half-blood. It was almost unrecognizable. Did I just hear that correctly? Of course, I did, I'm a bloody werewolf... The pure-blood was disappointed in the Huffle girl. Such promise, yet so tainted. As he looked at her a hint of regret and compassion could be recognised in his eyes. His face, however, didn't reveal anything about how he felt by this news. As his thought process went on he almost hadn't noticed the slight sigh she made. Erik was in a pit of a pickle here. He somehow had a good feeling about the girl yet he couldn't possibly imagine them being friends because of her low status and her very tainted bloodline. After a few moments he had made a decision. He would give her a chance. A chance to prove herself worthy of his time.

As Erik spoke, he absently rubbed the hand he had used to shake Fyriel's hand on his pants. Like he was scared her tainted bloodline would somehow be infectious. Aha, I see. A singer you say? How... Interesting. Tell me a bit more about yourself. Where are you from? How does that, Erik almost spat out the word like it had left a bad taste in his mouth, Muggleness affect you in daily life? The werewolf looked at her like a detective would when he was interrogating a suspect. All that was missing was the desk light to shine in her face as he busted her on a lie.
