L1: Two Spells in One Class?
LESSON 1 | Dancing Feet Spell and Mending Charm
I walked into class as I glanced around the huge room and saw all the decorative items scattered around the room. This was Charms class, huh? This room really had a… lively atmosphere to it. I walked over to an empty desk and took a seat, getting ready for the class to start. I did wonder what we’d learn in this Charms class…
The professor came in and introduced themselves as Professor Fresnel as she explained that we’d be learning about 2 things; the dancing feet spell- tarantallegra and the mending spell- reparo. She then explained that tarantallegra forces the targets legs to dance uncontrollably and reparo was used to repair things once broken. She continued on, telling us that these spells would require control and focus and even demonstrated what we’d be trying to do with another student and then we were off with our assigned partners.
The first spell we were trying out was tarantallegra, each student would take turns attempting to make the other person dance. We’d have to speak clearly and have control while we performed this spell for it to work. Many people were failing at this, including me. I knew that spells wouldn’t be easy to learn- that was obvious. Slowly, kids were starting to get it and I was able to see the playful activity happening everywhere around the room. It took me a bit longer than others- even my partner got it before me but I wasn’t giving up. I focused, like many times before and pointed my wand at my partner and said the word…
Tarantallegra! I announced and then it happened…
My partner started to dance like I saw everyone else do before. I did it and I felt proud and accomplished.
We wait ed a bit more until most of everyone was finished then we moved on to reparo. I honestly believed this would be easy since I learned oculus reparo just the other day and… it was. I was able to fix a random object I was assigned to in just a couple minutes. Guess that practice beforehand really helped me out.

Skylar adjusted her wand, feeling the smooth ash beneath her thumb. Charms class. The very first one of her day at Hogwarts.
She stood with a bare face, tried not to look nervous, but her stomach twisted with something that felt like excitement mixed with dread. Most of the other students were chatting already, their laughter bouncing off the stone walls. Skylar wasn’t used to that kind of noise. She preferred the quiet hum of greenhouse plants.
When announcements that everyone would be paired up came up, Skylar felt her shoulders stiffen. Please not someone loud, she thought. Please…
Then she saw a small girl with messy, dirty-blonde hair standing in front of her. Her wand was clutched tightly in her hand. Her smile was nervous, but genuine.
Skylar blinked, then nodded, managing a quiet with an awkward face, “I'm Skylar.” She began to introduce herself simply.
Moved to an open space together, Skylar looked at Lillian’s little grin before glancing toward the professor again, mouthing the incantation Tarantallegra. She tried to focus, repeating the incantation under her breath. When she lifted her wand, she caught her reflection in Lillian’s gray eyes, focused, too serious about getting it right.
Their first few tries fizzled into harmless sparks. Other students were already making their partners dance, success laughter filling the room. Skylar and Lillian shot each other with a worried look, then smiled.
“I think it’s about rhythm,” Skylar said dryly, but excited inside.
She whispered the incantation, and this time it worked. Lillian’s legs started to move, first a shuffle, then a full, uncontrollable dance. Skylar quickly countered the spell, eyes open wide. “Are you okay?” but Lillian seemed to be enjoying more than hurt. Then, a corner of Skylar’s mouth twitched before she realized she was smiling too.
When it was her turn to be the target, Lillian tried again, face looked scrunch up in determination. The first few attempts only made Skylar’s foot twitch, but finally...
Skylar’s legs started moving entirely on their own. She stumbled backward, laughing a little, trying to keep her balance.“You..ha..you did it!”
It was the first time for a long time that Skylar had genuinely laughed with someone who was not her aunt.
By the time she began the Reparo exercise next, Skylar’s nerves had melted a bit, but Lillian looked more confident.
She was fixing her object in seconds. Skylar was surprised and impressed. Lillian was struggling more before, but this seemed very easy for her. Skylar began to follow Lillian's action. She murmured the spell softly when the cracked edge of a porcelain teacup sealed itself smoothly together again.
As class ended, Skylar glanced and wanted to say something for once. She turned to Lillian. “You did great today,” she said simply.
“You like planti...pet...play...I mean, would you like to hang out together sometime?” Skylar smiled awkwardly, but was able to manage keeping her bare face still.

L1: Two Spells in One Class?
I was a bit nervous when I got partnered up with some girl. It was a great way to start finally making new friends but I wasn’t the most social creature on earth. The girl introduced herself as Skylar. That was a cool name, it always reminded me of the water somehow. I nervously introduced myself as Lillian in a mumbled voice. I was a great speaker when it came to strangers.
We got to work on the Dancing Feet Spell- i doubted none of us really knew what we were doing but at least we were trying. Skylar got it before me- which probably was no surprise but the spell sure did catch me off guard.
Skylar was very supportive and kind during the whole thing and I did appreciate that. I was glad I wasn’t partners with someone other than that. After a bit longer I finally got the hang of the spell and was able to preform it correctly. I was able use the dancing spell and I felt proud. I noticed how happy the girl seemed- it must’ve been contagious because I started laughing too.
After a bit more practice it was time to move on to the mending spell reparo. I felt a bit more confident in this portion of the class. Maybe it was because I already got some practice in with the dancing spell or maybe it was some other reason- I mean- I did learn about oculus Reparo just a little bit ago. I felt fairly confident in this charm. As we got our broken objects, we were able to start trying out the charm for ourselves.
It didn’t take long until I got the charm down. And I was able to renew the plate to its original form. I watched as my partner, Skylar, was still trying to get the charm to work. Maybe I could help her out. I showed her the correct movement because I did notice that her wand movement was a bit off and in a couple minutes she had it down too and I watched as the teacup shifted back into its original form. Magic was cool.

After Lillian agreed to be her friend, Skylar felt relieved. The tension in her shoulders eased. Then she stood there, trying to collect her thoughts again. What was she going to say next?
Skylar was still smiling a little as the classroom began to empty, the sound of footsteps fading down the corridor. She hesitated, then took a small breath.
“Hey, um… actually,” She paused for a moment before continuing, “I see you’re really good at Charms.”
A small laugh slipped out. “I mean there are some incantations that I haven't learn yet, but you seem to already have experience with them, so...”
She lift with the edge of her sleeve a little as she glanced up again.
“So, I was wondering if maybe you could help me a bit? Like… practice the incantations together after class or something?”
Skylar gave a hopeful expression. she shifted her weight, her tone gentle and a little awkward.
“I just feel like I’d learn better with someone who doesn’t make me feel like I’m going to mess everything up.”
There was a brief pause before she added quickly, “We could trade like I could help you out with Herbology or Potion if you’d like. I’m actually pretty good at it.”
Skylar let out a giggled, cheeks tinged pink as she looked down. “So… what do you think? Study partners?”

L1: Two Spells in One Class?
“Oh- uhm, ya. We could be study partners..” I responded, slightly surprised and nervous. I did need some extra practice with my classes anyway so that would be great.
“Uhm… we could hang out in the courtyard sometime- if you’d like..” I mumbled. “Or- the library… maybe even the great hall..” I continued. I wasn’t too sure where she liked or preferred to hang out… I was kinda just listing off areas I enjoyed to go.
“We could uh… like, bond… or something.” Man, I was such a nervous reck. Why couldn’t I talk to people normally? I couldn’t get a sentence together. “Uhm, sorry. I’m not much of a talker… I’m pretty shy…”
I paused, “Uhm, I do enjoy exploring the woods/forests tho. Where I used to live- you know, before hogwarts- i lived in a pretty open area with lots of fields and forests around. I kinda spend most of my time in nature at my home..”
I looked at the time- or it was almost time to go. “Oh uhm, seems like class is about to end. Like I said.. we could like hang out sometime- outside of class. Just send an owl or something sometime, ok?” I smiled nervously as I awaited a response and started packing my things up.

Skylar’s smile softened. She felt unexpectedly warm at Lillian’s quick response.
“The courtyard sounds nice,” she said after a short pause. “And the forest… that actually sounds really peaceful. I like nature, green grass, and quiet places too.”
She gave an excited look. “Or maybe a Great Lake. That’ll be really cool. We might find something interesting there.”
Skylar glanced at Lillian, then she realized she felt overwhelmed. When someone mentioned something she loved to talk about, she sounded like a different person.
“Sorry, that’s not what we focus on.” She sighs and gets back to the topic. “Anyway…”
Her tone stayed calm but gentle, with a small laugh at the end. “Don’t worry about being shy. I am not much of a talker either. This is the first time I’ve tried talking to someone here, so maybe we’ll balance each other out.”
Skylar started gathering her quills and books, sneaking a glance at Lillian, who already seemed ready to go. “Maybe this weekend? We could practice a bit… or just hang out.”
For a second, she hesitated, then smiled again. “I’m really glad we got partnered up today.”
As she reached the doorway, Skylar gave a small wave. “See you around in class, Lillian.”
