It had already been a dreary, weary day. Eldritch felt completely drained, and that has to mean something coming from a unique individual like Eldritch, a boy who at his highest of highs looked like he had just woken up from a decade of slumber. A sleep so long he'd have forgotten what the world looked like before he dug his own grave.

But then again, Eldritch was quite absent-minded. So forgetful, he forgot what he had for lunch that same afternoon before he hit the library, and not necessarily because he felt like it. Although it was an ideal place for solace and peace, as well as wisdom and entertainment, Eldritch had a workload to deal with, and just when one would think it couldn't get worse, it did. The second he heard that the batch of first-year students had to work in pairs for a specific assignment, his heart sank so deep into his stomach that his growling stomach had its fill right there and then. In fact, all he had was half an apple after that.

Eldritch wasn't necessarily all that intertwined with his peers. Not so far at least. It was mostly just blank nods and lots of observation. His lips never curved to plant a smile across his face nor did his eyes ever wake up from the weariness across his pale face. He preferred the company of ghosts for the most part, or the friends that had been with him the longest, the ones in his head. Such lovely company. They had been pretty quiet recently, it felt like the unwanted company and the consistency of being surrounded by people his age had reduced their bickering and the calmity of it all felt strange.

"Miss us?" A haunting voice rang in the boy's ears - or head - depending on how one sees it. Eldritch was not one to be spooked, and that did not change today.
"How could I not?" Eldritch replied plainly, but he meant it with so much love.
"I missed you too, comrade," said the soldier, a voice so familiar that Eldritch could mimic his fake Russian accent with ease, but he'd never dare to disrespect the general... lieutenant... whatever he was. A wizard, disguised as a muggle, undercover for the government, or so the story went. Eldritch had heard it half a dozen times. And every single time there was a slight change to the plot. But little El liked to hear it every single time, regardless. The lies just made it more intriguing.

"Return the favour and miss me back, I must soon speak to an actual living being. A human. A girl. A girl whose name I forgot, but she should find me with relative ease." Eldritch sat down on a chair; the table in front of him was so big that books took more than ten seconds to fly over it. Next to him were two empty seats, and he intended to reserve both of them for the Gryffindor girl, in case she preferred one over the other. Or both - one may never know how odd a person's preference may be. And who was Eldritch to judge? Well, usually a ghost trapped in flesh and bones, but today he had to be the sack of meat he came into this world in and act like an actively sociable individual in order to get the grades he so desperately craved. Eldritch didn't find much joy in most things he did, but his ambition to be successful and eventually complete such an accomplishment had always filled him with... joy... excitement... strange, eerie feelings unbeknownst to a Wicked like Eldritch.

But so he waited patiently, still in his Hufflepuff uniform, figuring it would have been a complete waste of time to go change clothes. His legs wiggled as he sat down on the chair, surveying the books around him, not knowing where to start browsing. Too many bookshelves, too many titles, too many words, too many letters. But he stood back up to claim a couple of books, featuring pages full of information about mischievous spells and who would dare to use them. He slammed the books on the table - as they were far too heavy for his fragile arms - and opened them, trying to make sense of the words laid out in front of him as he slowly scanned through to collect as much information as possible so that he'd be able to contribute to this assignment, and get some light work done while waiting for the girl whose name he had unfortunately forgotten. Not so observant of Eldritch, for once.

"Ah, the leek curse. What a beautiful spell that one. Blessed a starving beggar with that spell once, made sure he never starved again."
"Blessed is a strange word, friend. He probably couldn't hear anymore if they sprouted from his ears."
"Well, he became mute to his own beggings and had something to eat everyday. I'd say that's great charity!"

Lucille was late. Not an uncommon occurrence for the girl, but certainly not something she'd expect from herself when meeting a new person. She disliked making people wait, hated wasting their time. She wanted to make a good impression, especially since she was once again working on a group assignment. Lucille thought back to her last group assignment, which had ended with sour relations and spilled ink. She winced, and her feet quickened as if they had a mind of their own, speeding up until she was running to the library.

She had gotten distracted by some compelling conversation in the common room, happily collapsing on a very comfortable armchair by the fire, listening to her peers talk. Despite the fact that she was still wearing her uniform, the warmth of the fire and the laughs of her friends had lulled her until she had completely forgotten about this boy and her assignment. It was only with a start when someone mentioned the time that she remembered, and realized, how late it had gotten.

Hastily, Lucille had changed, even if it took her a few extra minutes, and was now sprinting to the library. This was not the impression she wanted to give Eldritch. She wanted him to know that she was just as interested in getting a good grade as she expected him to be. In fact, now that she thought about it, there wasn't much she knew about Eldritch. The boy was quiet in class; in fact, she wasn't really sure if she'd ever seen him speak to someone else. Sometimes, in class, he would ask a question, and it would take Lucille a second to realize who spoke. On the contrary, she wasted no time volunteering answers and attacking their professor with a tirade of questions.

Finally reaching the library, Lucille burst in. Loudly, much like most things that involved Lucille. A few annoyed students turned to glare at her. and she offered a sheepish smile, trying to calm her breathing and slow down. She scanned the tables, trying to find Eldritch and, to her surprise, he was still in his uniform. Her heart sank a little more at the sight; that meant he had been here for 15 minutes, maybe longer, since he probably hadn't returned to his dorm. Instead, he must have come to the library when his classes ended, something Lucille, evidently, did not do.

She walked over to his table, collapsing on the seat next to him, and wasting no time in speaking, even as she got the strange feeling that she had interrupted a conversation. She swiveled her entire body towards him, leaned forward, and started, almost in a whisper, glancing at the other students as she spoke, making sure she wasn't loud enough to disturb them. "I am so sorry I'm late. I truly don't have a reason, but I spent just a little bit too long in the common room. The chair was so comfortable, and the fire was so warm. I almost dozed off, in fact. Hopefully you haven't been working too long?" There was true regret on her face, eyes wide, hoping he wasn't angry.

It was only now that Lucille realized how tall he was. She had known he was tall, but had never really been close enough to truly realize it. Now, she shifted back a bit, looking up at him. The curious stare was then followed by a statement. "You know, I never noticed how tall you are." Lucille glanced at the book he'd already opened and the ones he'd collected. A decent place to start, certainly, and she felt as if going off and finding more books for them to pore through right now might be a little overwhelming for him. Her eyes quickly returned to meet his, expectantly waiting for a response before she began working.
