Backdated to mid-November

Thora kicked at the grass sullenly with a worn sneaker as she trudged out onto the Quidditch Training Field. Glancing longingly at the threesome of hoops high in the sky, she gripped her brand-new Nimbus 1700 harder. Everything was set. Thora had attended every practice, gotten to know her team, and had even bought a rather expensive broom, considering the fact that she had begun her time at Hogwarts with a painfully small sum of money. But she was still a reserve. At least she had switched to keeper, which was slightly more realistic for her. But for now, she remained the little girl sitting on the bench.

It wasn't that she was salty about this fact. It wasn't that. She had no problem acting as a reserve, a backup to enter only in the case that Koko--their talented first string keeper--was knocked off. The past month or so had been a horrible trial for Thora, and she had yet to recover. In fact, the Slytherin was highly doubtful that she would ever bounce back from the horrors she had experienced. The only thing that she found helped was venting. Venting on random things, stupid things, things that shouldn’t have mattered nearly as much as they did to Thora.

The Masquerade Ball had been merely weeks ago, yet it felt like an eternity had passed since that night that would forever be burned into Thora's memory. The night she watched a professor, deemed the responsible ones, stab a student. The night she saw two students so close to death, Thora's heart had broken for them. The night she met a young girl suffering through the trauma of watching her friends. The night a boy, literally cursed by candy, was so far gone that he attacked fellow students like a wild animal. The night where finally, finally, Thora had been spurred into action.

Before that point, Thora had been an almost nonexistent presence, a silent girl in the huge, ever-busy castle that was Hogwarts. Following the ball, she wasn't exactly popular, nor was she well-known. She didn’t care, though. All she cared about was her role in the Masquerade Ball. The snek hadn't been--and didn't want to be--recognized for her influential role in how the events played out, but even if it would always be her secret, she could be proud of herself.

Of course, it was not a night of glory. It wasn't just the fun event where everyone stayed up late and had fun. With the burst of confidence that had personally helped Thora came the fear. The memories. And worst of all, the trauma. As the ball was by far the worst thing she had ever seen in her life, guilt, fear, and nightmares plagued her to no end. But thankfully, even with the setbacks of homework and loneliness, Thora was a fast learner. And what she had learned in the past few weeks was that everything melted away when she took to the air. When she played Quidditch. And that was exactly what she was planning to do now.

Before, Quidditch practice had been a pain. At least an hour wasted away while she practiced on a stupid old school broom. Thora envied the other students' brooms--even Bridget's Shooting Star. She would do anything, anything to get off a broom that had evidently been used for countless years too long. And finally, she earned enough money. Sure, she had a couple Galleons worth of help, but she finally could get a broom. Although it wasn't exactly the best one on the market--she didn't even nearly that many Galleons--it was a Nimbus 1700, one of the best brooms she could afford as a second year.

"Up," Thora muttered, catching her Nimbus deftly as it rose to her side. Swinging her leg over, she took off the hood of her blue sweater and braided her brown hair. As the Slytherin took off, she shot towards the goals, looping around one, then another. What she really would've wanted to do would be to practice blocking some goals, as she had just switched to Keeper and needed to get the feel of it. Besides, their loss against Hufflepuff had been humiliating. Yes, the other team was pretty good and had an even chance of winning, but their easy catch of the Snitch had been no field day for the sneks.

But now, unfortunately, there wasn't anyone else on the field to practice with. And there wasn't a practice in another few days. Sighing, Thora flattened herself onto the broom and shot away to the other end of the field. She loved the feeling of flying through the air and feeling the resistance as wind flew into her face. The first time she had tried flying, it was like nothing had she ever felt before. From that point on, Thora knew. She had to get on the Quidditch team. And once she did, a simple thirty minutes of being on her broom was more than just flying. It was everything.

Interacting with @Thora Larkston
Griseldis decided to test out her new broom today, the payments of her hard work as a Prefect and the errands she did made it possible for her to finally saved up enough money to buy the Nimbus 1700. She also wanted to train alone at the Quidditch Training Pitch, in order to enhance her skills. Luckily, it was nice weather for training. While on her way to the destination, no matter how cheerful she looked at this very moment, the Gryffindor girl still remembered clearly what had happened in the past two months. Somehow, she really believed that the Gryffindor team had really bad luck on Beaters but that might change after she heard from her captain that a few new members were going to join the team soon. All she could do it train hard and hope at the same time. And then there was the Masquerade ball, a ball that changed many people's lives. It didn't really negatively affect Griseldis that much but it did affect her other friends badly which made her worried a lot than before. She would try to find some free time to meet up with her friends and see if they were doing well so far or not.

Thinking back about Quidditch, their next match would be against the Hufflepuff team. She already heard that they won against the Slytherin team, even though it was rumored that the Slytherins had the best keepers but somehow, the Hufflepuffs had an amazing first-year seeker on their team. Then there was Ravenclaws, obviously, their Chasers were the best and their Beaters were also very ruthless. And Gryffindor? Griseldis let out a weary sigh. The only word she could think of to perfectly describe their team was..."unstable". One of the Beaters disappeared during the match and after the game, a few teammates left for the Duelling Club, along with their Co-captain stepping down. Griseldis didn't blame her captain for being very unhappy with the situation but she didn't want him to believe that it was his fault. It was just luck that wasn't on the lion's side yet......

When Griseldis finally arrived at the Quidditch Training Pitch, she immediately saw there was someone flying on a broom above, based on the color of the robe, she realized it was a Slytherin Quidditch player. However, the chestnut-brown hair, pale skin color, and those green eyes very familiar...wait, she knew who that Slytherin Quidditch player was! "THORA!", Griseldis shouted as loud as she could and tried to get the Slytherin girl's attention.

It was a pleasant surprise to meet Thora at the Quidditch Training Pitch. Honestly, she really liked Thora, when she first met her at the beginning of the semester, the 2nd-year Slytherin did give her a good impression during their errand together. She was nice, polite and soft-spoken. She did want to get to know her more after the errand but unfortunately, she needed to send her Prefect application and wasn't able to stay longer. Their second encounter was at the Masquerade ball, she witnessed the kindness and bravery of this Slytherin girl who tried her best to help other people. Griseldis wouldn't want to miss this opportunity to befriend Thora Larkston.

The sound of her name being called floated, almost lost, through the air rushing about Thora as she flew faster and faster. Who could it be? Was she in trouble? All the girl wanted to do was to fly on, to fly her worries away, but someone had interrupted her practice. Thora didn't mind the disruption, not in the slightest, but even with her fear of most people in the castle, there were other students she would stop anything to talk to. Others she tried to avoid at all costs, while still others she wanted to seek out again and perhaps befriend them. But for Merlin's sake, if Thora was in trouble for whatever reason, she had better answer the call. She'd had a perfect record so far, in terms of staying out of trouble, and had a rather irrational fear of ruining that record with a little mishap.

Fighting down her fears, which were completely unnecessary, Thora swerved to an abrupt stop, white-knuckled hands wrapped around the handle the only thing keeping herself from flying headfirst off the front of the broom. Countless hours of practice had boosted a confidence within the Slytherin she previously was practically unable to find, and she couldn't help but show off, even if just a bit. Thora wasn't exactly prideful, as one would've expected a snek to be. There were very little things the little girl was actually proud of excelling at, and, Quidditch being one of them, she found herself turning a few spins to cover up her fail as she descended through the cool, crisp, Scottish air.

Thora slowed her descent to avoid a painful collision with the hard ground--which had, in fact, happened before--and glanced towards a lone figure clutching a broom. It could be any Quidditch player from any house. It could be someone Thora was deathly scared of, or it could be one of her friends. As the brunette hopped neatly off her Nimbus 1700 and picked up the precious broom with her left hand, her green eyes darted over the other girl who had called her name. Gris? To Thora's relief and unashamed delight, it was the brave Gryffindor prefect who stood before her, not some other scary Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.

"Hi Gris!" Thora greeted the lion. The excitement that broke out in her voice surprised her, as she barely knew Griseldis, despite having met her twice in her second year. There was the errand, where they had simply exchanged names, then the ball, where everyone's true colors had shown. Gris had first helped Thora and Ruthie, then rushed off to charge one of the cursed part-giants. It was an act of bravery Thora knew that she herself could never pull off, and she couldn't help but admire the other girl for it.

"Do you have a Nimbus 1700 too?" Thora asked, holding up her own broom and noticing the very similar model Gris held. She tried to distract herself as unwelcome thoughts rushed through Thora's head as fast as the wind whipped her robes about. Though it was weeks after the ball, seeing people who had been decidedly involved with it still caused memories to resurface, making the snek bite her lip. She just wanted to let go of the ball, forget everything that had happened because it was in the past. Well, although the school had left the traumatic night behind in time, it was far from over. But Thora wasn't here to worry about the future. She was here to practice Quidditch, for Merlin's sake.

"Y-your eye is okay, right?" Thora blurted out, "You know, after the ball?" Embarrassment added a tomato-red tinge to her pink, wind-kissed cheeks. It was quite uncharacteristic of the girl to say such a thing, however much she might care for someone, but she couldn't hold it back anymore. Gris had been licked straight in the eye at the Masquerade Ball--well, Thora saw as much--and Thora hadn't made sure she was okay. Had anyone made sure she was okay? The adrenaline of the night combined with a near-kidnapping and a visit to St. Mungo's had all about overloaded Thora's brain. She didn't even think of checking on the Gryffindor.

While waiting for Griseldis' answer, Thora  kept her head down, kicking at the grassy field. "Up,"she muttered as she dropped the broom at her side. As it rose up with its silent grace, Thora swung a leg over and tried to settle in a slightly more comfortable position. "Do you want to practice and chat, then?" she asked the Gryffindor, cocking her head to the side earnestly. Knowing the other girl was a prefect, Thora didn't want to keep her, but she had--fortunately or not--already begun the conversation. Hopefully this wouldn't end as disastrously as the ball itself.

Interacting with @Thora Larkston
It looked like she was loud enough to get the Slytherin's girl attention from the sky, Griseldis watched as the brunette proudly show off her flying skill on her own Nimbus 1700. It was a good thing seeing the girl being so confident now as if the bad incident never happened in the past few weeks. so far, they haven't gone against the Slytherin team yet and their next match was against the Hufflepuff. So this was the first time seeing Thora as a Quidditch player and she would be curious to know which role she was, would she be a chaser like her perhaps? She would find that out real soon.

Once the brunette safely landed on the ground, she hopped off her Nimbus 1700 and looked at Griseldis with her bright green eyes, which reminded her of the forest during the Spring. She noticed Thora's expression became delighted as if she was really happy to see her. Griseldis remembered a few minutes ago she seemed a bit nervous though but that wasn't important anymore, because she was also very happy to see her. Thora greeted her in a cheerful tone, she could clearly hear the excitement in the Slytherin girl's voice but still, that made Griseldis glad, she greeted her back with a smile, "Hi Thora, it's really wicked to see you here. You're looking quite well but I hope I didn't disturb your training."

Then Thora asked her about her new broom, Griseldis nodded and smiled with pride when she replied to her, "Yes, I was able to save up all the galleons I earned from my errands and prefect's salary. It took me a lot of hard work and time but it was worth it in the end. I'll miss Shooting Star of course but you need to think about the advantages of improvement." When she looked at Thora's broom, that was when she realized that they both had the same model, "Wow! You also got yourself a Nimbus 1700, Thora, that's so wicked!" Before the lioness could ask the snake if they could maybe train together, she suddenly asked her about her eye, which caught her off guard. A few moments later she giggled a bit at the memory because even though that candy crazed kid licked her eye but she only found it a bit silly, "Oh, my eye? Ahahaha, don't worry about it, Thora, my eye is totally fine now, thanks to the Nurse's magical healing it only took 25 minutes to recover my vision. See?", Griseldis simply pointed at her right eye to show Thora it wasn't red anymore. "It's all good, thanks for asking though, that was really nice of you."

Maybe out of boredom, the brunette already wanted to sit back on her own Nimbus 1700 and she didn't expect was that Thora asked her if she would like to practice with her and chat at the same time. She wouldn't say no to that offer, "Sure! It'll be an honor. UP!", Griseldis called her broom then hopped on it with ease, and quickly settled herself in a comfortable position. "So, before we can practice together we need to introduce our roles first, I'm a Chaser and how about you? What's your role?", she asked and awaited Thora's reply.

Training? Honestly, Thora'd never thought of a little flying practice by herself as training, but she supposed that would be the proper word for it. Nevertheless, it was a relief Griseldis was excited to see her here as well. She didn't exactly have many friends in a huge world, let alone at Hogwarts, so she treasured the ones she had, Gris being one of them. Thora couldn't help but smile at the girl's endless chatter, drifting off between the sentences. It wasn't until she answered her question about the ball that she perked up. The fact that it had taken so little time to heal Gris' licked eye was simply… amazing.

Thora honestly did admire Gris' bravery. While it was true that students had experienced worse than getting a huge dose of someone else's warm saliva in your eyeball, it was still revolting. And it couldn't have been fun, let alone easy. She felt obligated to ask how the other girl was, though. With trying to take down the cursed kid and chasing masked adults down hallways, Thora had pretty much forgotten about Gris in the heat of the ball. While Thora was ever grateful that her friend had made it safely out, she still blamed herself for leaving the other girl behind. Friends were supposed to stay together, weren't they?

But everything was okay. The ball was over. The phrase wasn't easy to believe, but still, Thora repeated it in her head. She needed to calm down, and not have a stupid melodramatic breakdown in the middle of the Quidditch Training Pitch. That would just prove her even more pathetic than she seemed, wouldn't it? Besides, beside the courageous Gryffindor, Thora just appeared… a girl of fears.

Shaking herself out of her reverie, the Slytherin's gaze finally met Griseldis' after having wandered for the past moments in the awkward silence. "Oh, you're a Chaser? That should work out decently well, I guess, since I'm a Keeper for the house team. Second string." There was no way Thora could fail to mention that she was simply the backup. She was the next in line in the case that Koko fell off, or got hurt. But until then, she remained a benchwarmer whose cheers just got lost within the crowd's.

While it was disappointing to not yet have played in a match despite attending pretty much every practice, Thora resorted to encouragement and trying to put on a brave face for the rest of her team. So long as Koko didn't fall off or something, the girl remained on the bench. But Thora would never wish the blonde harm, nor the rest of her team, so she supposed second string would have to be enough. For now.

Dashing to the equipment shed, Thora retrieved a Quaffle before returning to her Nimbus 1700. Now, they could practice for real. While Slytherin hadn't yet played the Gryffindors, she could imagine that Gris was a formidable player with her small frame but obvious strength. She'd practically tackled one of those weird huge people at the ball, for Merlin's sake. So as she tucked the ball under an arm, Thora cocked her head to the side.

"We could just do laps first. Or, of course, just go and do some scoring."f It wasn't common for two players from opposite teams to be practicing together, but honestly, Thora didn't care. They were practicing as friends, and wasn't that enough?
