Nova laughed at Avery's question, amused by her embarrassment but also surprised. How could someone not know what knitting was? It seemed so common wherever she went, people wearing knitted sweaters or making things themselves. Nevertheless, she smiled. "It's basically crocheting, but worse," she said dryly, nudging Avery's arm with her elbow.

"My grandma does it, so a lot of my knitted clothes are from her. She always tells me there's no point in buying if she's there for it." A small giggle escaped her, rolling her eyes affectionately at the thought. As Avery confirmed she had someone to give it to as well, Nova grinned back at her. "That's good, I hope they like it!"

Her own little star sat finished in her palm now—still lopsided, still very much a beginner’s creation, but it held more charm than a person would give it credit for. It was, objectively, a mess. But a pretty mess at least. The sunlight caught on the yellow yarn, and for a brief second, the little crooked shape didn’t look half bad. Maybe she could say it was an artist's choice.

Her eyes flicked back to Avery, who was hunched over her own yarn like she was going to solve some ancient riddle with every stitch. Sliding the small star on the table towards her, Nova grinned. "For valiant service in this war of yarn." She said with mock seriousness before adding, "And for being generally nice to people you don't know."

Nova sat back in her seat, arms crossed in triumph. “That’s a one-of-a-kind, by the way. Might be worth something in like… twenty years.”

Avery laughed. "I'll keep it in mind to stay away from knitting. Sounds like a nightmare." She smiled as her star was finally coming to an end of its creation. Though it was far from perfect, it at least looked like a star for once. She remembered the last time she crocheted she was forced to restart many times after failed attempt after failed attempt.

Avery glanced over at Nova's finished star. It had turned out beautifully. Avery didn't know why Nova thought it wasn't perfect. Compared to hers, Nova's was worlds better.

That's probably why she was so shocked when Nova handed it to her. She carefully took the star into her hands and smiled. Admiring the beautiful stitching done on it. "It's beautiful. Thank you so much. It's funny, though since I had the same idea to give mine to you!"

Avery handed her own completed star towards Nova. "If you want it, of course. If you don't, I'm sure I can find someone to give it to." She smiled.

Avery couldn't believe how just one random meeting turned into this. Though Avery had only just met Nova, she could tell the girl had a good heart and a great personality. Two things Avery always enjoyed having in a friend. It always made it easier when she needed someone she trusted to talk to.
