A love from the depths
Rea had always wanted a pet. From the moment she could talk, she had wanted in particular, a cat. But her dad was deathly allergic and the thought was immediately dismissed.
When Rea got to Hogwarts and realized that she had Wizarding money and was away from her parents, she could finally buy a cat! Her dream name for it was Indigo Bunting. Even the name of the real bird species is so beautiful.
Rea walked down the cobbled street of diagon alley. Rea marveled in the shops wonder and glory. She walked past Ollivanders and felt a rush of joy run through her body. That shop made her special. Made her unique. Made her, well, a wizard. She pulled out her own wand, hornbeam and phoenix feather. She shoved it back in her pocket and continued down the road, tripping on her own shoes.
Rea pushed open the dusty door of the magical menagerie. She coughed and snorted dust out of her nose.
"Please keep your voice down" Said a kind voice from behind the counter.
Rea looked up to see a wizened old woman petting a squeamish owl.
"It scares Winifred" The witch said.
The owl flapped up and landed on the lady's shoulder, shooting Rea a reproachful look. The owl's brownish-red wings flapped and it lifted off, up through all the cages hanging from the ceiling, settling in its own cage, and wrapping its wings around itself.
"What brings you here dearie? Hogwarts I presume? The witch glanced at her robes, already with the Hogwarts patch on it.
"U-um yes? I would like to look at -um- a cat maybe? Or just the supplies for now! Rea stuttered.
The witch nodded and pointed to the back, where there were supplies for cats and actual kittens rolling around in cages. Rea slowly walked up to the closest cage and gasped with delight. A small grey kitten was sitting in the cage, her large green eyes staring up at Rea. It's grey fur looked impossibly soft and her markings were beautiful.
Rea stuck a finger into the cage and stroked the kitten's damp little nose. The kitten rubbed her head up against Rea's hand as Rea felt tears well up. Rea already loved the kitten and knew that she wanted her as her own. Rea tore her gaze from the kitten and looked at supplies. Food, beds, water bowls, manuals.
Rea grabbed one of the manuals and checked the price of that and a small bag of cat food. They were both within her price range so Rea walked back over to the counter.
"Um- hello! Just these two and that kitten over there please. She said, knowing that this cat would change her life forever.
