The morning when Airlia climbed up to the owlery, cold and shivering without her robes in the winter weather she'd received a letter from her brother.

She'd been so excited about hearing from him that she'd forgotten that it was cold and slippery outside. She'd slipped twice on her way already and the stairs to the owlery were like a death trap. She went them up at an extremely slow pace, squeezing the dear letter in her hand, guarding it against the cold air as she slowly made her way up.

As soon as she'd received it she'd practically sprinted to the closest quill and written her response. He was in South America and she couldn't wait for him to read her letter. She'd had so much to tell that her parchment was written full of her tiny handwriting on both sides.

Somehow holding the letter in her hand she felt closer to him. Like he hadn't left home and his duties to her.

They had always been Gael and Airlia. The Winter heirs. But now she was just Airlia, no brother insight.

It wasn't until she reached the top of the stairs that she heard a thump and a squeal from the inside of the owlery.

Some Owlery Ambience

The owlery was always cold, no matter the time of day. It was a tall stone tower with wide-open windows in the shape of rectangles, big enough for the owls to fly through at leisure.

Wind blew in as it pleased, scattering the scent of feathers and feed through the room. All around she could hear the sound of talons scratching at posts and down ruffled as the small avians preened themselves in the still-mesmerizing feat of tipping their heads all the way over for their talons to scratch behind their hidden ears.

In her hand she held the letter she'd finally written to her father. it had taken her a while, but after meeting a kindly Ravenclaw girl out near the Great Lake, she'd finally found the confidence to write it. Now, she was heading up to send it, and she was nervous, but refused to back down now.

It was noisy with the sounds of ruffling feathers and low hoots as she tied her letter to the leg of a screech that had its little tufty ears ruffled from a recent preening. Once it was tied, she gently straightened out its ears before sending it off with her letter.

She stood, watching it fly off into the distance. Everything felt calm in the morning, quiet and peaceful. Just quiet enough for her to hear the quiet incantation of "Flipendo" before she was suddenly knocked off her feet and into a nearby owl post, knocking her shoulder into it roughly.

Airlia had just entered the owlery when some unknown Slytherin student ran past her quickly, giggling like she'd done something bad.

Scrunching her eyebrows in confusion she watched the student run down the stairs with the speed of lighting before shaking her head and looking around.

"Oh, are you alright?" Airlia asked when she hurried over to a girl that was clearly hurt on the floor of the owlery. She reached her hand over to offer her help to the girl that looked quite innocent in the midst of all the flying and screeching owls.

The girl had brown hair in a windswept style that reached to her shoulders. Her eyes were big and brown with a lovely round shape to them that looked almost child-like behind her glasses.

She looked smart and sweet and Airlia instantly worried for her. She didn't seem like the type to know how to defend herself or fight against bullies. And everyone knew Airlia had a sweet spot for the hopelessly lost first years and a habit of taking such students under her wing so to say.

Now she looked down at another student who was in need of help, and who else to offer it than her?

Sola could feel the bruises forming already, making her shoulder feel tender and sore. She heard rapid footsteps move past her before she could even look up. Her hair was in her eyes anyway, so it was unlikely she could see anyway, especially with her classes knocked askew.

She fixed them before she gingerly pressed a hand to her shoulder, groaning quietly. She heard another pair of footsteps approaching her. A girl crouched down in front of her, looking concerned.

"Oh, are you alright?" she asked. She was an older girl, Sola noted. Not much older, maybe only a year. She had a soft face with hair near-white, and startlingly violet eyes. That was something you didn't see everyday. Sola also noticed the yellow tie, and felt a sense of trust come over her.

She nodded hesitantly. "Y-yes," she said. "I think... I think it was just a knockback jinx." She wouldn't really know. She hadn't taken that class yet. All she knew right now was reparo and tarantellegra.

The girl was holding out a hand to offer help. Sola hasn't noticed until now. She raised a hand to accept it, the hand that had been on the ground, bearing her weight.

It was only when she raised it that she noticed the red dripping from it and the discarded owl talon currently lodged in her palm.

"Oh, dearest. You're hurt." Airlia said, as she helped the girl up properly, avoiding any contact with anything the girl had injured. It would do no good for the girl to have additional pain.

Airlia looked the girl over and knew that a trip to the infirmary could not be avoided: "Can you walk properly? A trip to the infirmary is a must and it's a long way there."

Airlia smiled gently and took a handkerchief from her pocket pressing it very gently to the girl's hand, hoping to wipe most of the blood away so they could see what was going on better. A curved owl talon seemed to have sunk into the girl's skin and it looked rather painful.

Airlia was rather accident-prone herself and knew that a lot of nerve endings are at the palm of a human hand and as such, it was a very sensitive area and it hurt a lot when you got a cut or some other injuries there.

She wondered who the person running away had been. Was this girl bullied a lot? How horrible. The thought of this girl being ridiculed and hurt for no apparent reason made her angry. Some people were just borderline nasty. She could never understand why people said mean things to others or even worse physically hurt people for their own amusement.

The pain in her hand was rather acute. The claw itself was maybe an inch at the least, and she wanted it out, but she didn't know if it was safe to just pull it out.

The girl asked if she could walk and she nodded. She wasn't that badly banged up, but her shoulder would be sore for a while probably.

She had no clue who had attacked her or why. Maybe someone who didn't like her family. The Hazes were rather well-known. Blood Traitors, they were called, and they flaunted it. Even their motto was a jab at blood status: "Always Impure; Always Magical". They'd never had a non-magical child, and she supposed that ticked Purebloods off.

She felt a handkerchief press into her hand as she tried to stand, using the hand offered to rise up. She glanced around the owlery. Some other students had looked over, a bit concerned or confused or annoyed. Sola blushed, looking away and back at the girl.

"Thank you," she said. She would have to go to the infirmary? She had never been there. She didn't even really know where it was. "I can walk," she said. "But I d-don't know where the hospital wing is..."

Airlia watched this girl stand and wondered why no other student present had done anything.

"It's okay." Airlia smiled softly when the girl said that she didn't know the way to the infirmary. Arlia had been there a bunch of times and knew the way there no matter where she was. The location was imprinted into her bones by now with how often she fell or slipped or encountered someone hurt and couldn't help but go back to the hospital wing.

"I know the way well. I'll take you." She said and started leading the girl out of the owlery. Her letter was already forgotten, so she would have to come back, but right now this girl was way more important. She'd once been told that if you want to be treated with kindness you should always show it to others. And so she helped people when she had the chance.

Injuries happened all over Hogwarts so knowing where to go when someone gets hurt is vital information. Especially if you're intent on studying in Hogwarts for the full seven years. One just doesn't graduate from Hogwarts without a trip to the infirmary. So it was time for this girl to learn it's location too.

In mere moments they were carefully decending the steps out of the owlery and heading for the infirmary.
