Bitter Departure
Tyranni was upset that she had to lie to her muggle friends with the age old story of heading off to boarding school. She enjoyed living in the muggle world even if it meant keeping her magical ancestry hidden from them.
She sat alone in the first empty compartment she could find. As the train began to move, she waved goodbye to her parents. She was excited to head to Hogwarts, but was upset at having to lie to the only friends she had back home. As the train picked up speed, Tyr dug into her trunk to grab out her current reading book, "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi. She was intrigued by the fictional world of Orïsha and the magic users that came from there. Her mother always said that every fictional story develops from a fraction of truth. She sat and pondered where the grain of truth was laying in this story.
It was going to be hard to make new friends. Not only did Tyr prefer to be alone, she also had a hard time connecting with others. It wasn't that she was a loner by pure choice though. Many times had she experienced gut feelings about someone and decided to stay away from them.
Focusing back on her book, she mumbled to herself, "At least no one else decided to sit in this compartment so I can read in peace."

Bitter Departure
Lily has found that upon coming into the train, there wasn’t many places to sit. She paused, looking at each compartment, looking for one with less people. She didn’t want to be in the same place as so many people. The train had started moving, so Lily waved through one of the windows as her parents disappeared. Her stomach was twisting, her eyes turning towards every different compartment. She really, really didn’t want to sit with them.
One of the last compartments she came across only had one student, a girl her age, whom was sitting by herself in the compartment. She knocked on the door, nerves filling her as she opened the door to the compartment, her tongue twisting as she thought of the words to say.
“Can I sit here? Everyone else has a bunch of people and well I don’t want to sit with a bunch of people.” Lily rambled, looking towards the other student and gripping her books in her hands, as she was planning to read. She noticed that the other student had her own book. She gripped her book harder, trying to still her beating heart, swallowing as she watched the other girl.
“I mean, you don’t have to say yes...”

Bitter Departure
Tyranni looked up from her book when she heard a knock and the door slide open.
“Can I sit here? Everyone else has a bunch of people and well I don’t want to sit with a bunch of people.”
The girl looked to be her age and seemed very nervous. Her hair was a curly and dark blond. She was holding some books in her arms as she waited at the door. Before Tyranni could answer, the girl said, "I mean, you don't have to say yes..."
"You can sit here. I don't mind." Tyranni reassured the girl. "My name is Tyranni. What's yours? I noticed you also have some books with you. Are you reading anything good? I love to read." Maybe if this girl also liked to read, she would have some good book suggestions.
Tyranni was nervous to be starting at Hogwarts away from her family and friends, but she tried not to show it, especially with this new student around. The train ride would provide a good amount of time to gauge this new girl and get a feel for her personality. Before Tyranni left on the train, her mother said she saw that Tyr would make friends quickly upon arriving to school. She told her mother that's what moms are supposed to say and rolled her eyes, but her mother was a Seer and could have been telling the truth. Just trust your gut instincts Tyr. Her mothers voice echoed in her head as she evaluated the new girl waiting for her response.

When the other girl told her she could sit, Lily seemed to relax a tiny bit, moving into the area and sitting herself down opposite the other girl. She moved her books off her lap and shrugged at the questions.
“Just a couple things.” She said, going through the books that she had placed beside her. “Some textbooks, a few reading books.”
She paused, before pulling out two of the reading books, offering one to the other girl. “This ones a fantasy novel, written by Kate O'Hearn. There’s six books to the series, however, I only have the four, since I was unable to get the last two at home. It’s about Olympus and a girl who meets Pegasus. It’s really interesting.”
She held the other book close to her, as she handed over ‘The Flame Of Olympus’. She didn’t like other people touching this other book, because of the condition it was in. She wanted to wait and see if there was any spells that could fix this book in her hands.
“This is ‘Shadow of The Wolf’, by Tim Hall. It’s a good read... for people older then us. Most people tell me I shouldn’t be reading it, but really all that’s in it are some gruesome scenes. I’m waiting to get to Hogwarts to see if I can get it repaired. Some of the pages are starting to fall out because of its last owners.”

"Don't worry. I began reading books when I was little that most people didn't start reading until they were in muggle middle school. Because of that, I also tend to read books that others view as 'for older individuals,' but that does not stop me. I think you should be able to read whatever you enjoy."
Tyranni took the book handed to her from Lily and read the synopsis. They both definitely sounded intriguing. Maybe there is a book club on campus, or if not one could be started. Especially since Tyranni wasn't sure what house she would be sorted into, it might be a good way for people of all houses to come together.
"Did you know that the Thestrals that pull the carriages at Hogwarts are winged horses like Pegasus? I would love to see one, but I haven't seen death before. My dad is a Dragonologist, but liked to tell me stories at night of all sorts of magical creatures."
She handed the book back to Lily, grateful that at least the student who decided to share the compartment had similar interests.

Bitter Departure
“I’m a quick reader so I end up reading a lot of books. Meaning, I have to go for older books since there’s a limited supply in my local library.” Lily said, looking at Tyranni. She placed her book back into her bag, looking at her books and closing the bag. She paused, looking towards the other girl.
“Thestrels?” She asked, in wonder. “I’ve heard of them! My Far thinks their dangerous but I think they’re great! I’ve read so much about them and I think they’d be useful if you could train them. As only people who’ve seen death can see them, they could be used as spy’s or messengers.”
Lily paused from speaking, looking out the window at some of the fields that were going past, watching them as she realised how alike they were to the fields she had on her family farm. She missed her mother’s chickens, the snakes, cats and Shepard, her horse.
“I grew up on fields like those.” She said to Tyranni. “Have you ever been on a farm?”
Lily watched the other girl, mind wishing she had one of the feral barn cats to pat from her farm. Although, they wouldn’t be so feral now, but they hated most people.

Bitter Departure
Using thestrals as spies? That's interesting. Why haven't I thought of that before?, Tyranni thought to herself. She made a note to ask her dad about this when she wrote to him after the first days at Hogwarts.
Lily paused and started out the window. She looked somewhat homesick as she watched the various fields zoom past the train. Growing up in Avoca Ireland, Tyranni was used to heavily forested lands and hills, as the area was home to many mines. The River Avoca runs through the area. Sometimes Tyranni would go to her favorite spot in town where a large tree with a huge branch overhung the river. She would climb up the tree and nestle into a spot she had discovered that was the perfect size for a young girl to sit and study or read.
“I grew up on fields like those. Have you ever been on a farm?” Lily asked Tyranni as she turned from the window and looked at Tyr.
"I grew up in a small home on the outskirts of Avoca. Mom and dad were always too busy with work to have most animals even though I always begged them for some animals. I've always wanted a horse but we did not have the space for one. I had a lot of muggle friends, so my parents only let me have non-magical creatures. Now that I am going to Hogwarts, my parents are watching my bearded dragon and my dog." Tyranni really wished she could have brought her animals with her, but she knew that likely was not possible. "My mothers family is from Norway and my gram still lives on the farm that they have had in the family for 6 generations. They raise sheep, and have a few 'hobby' animals like Mittens, their fox and a few chickens."
Maybe once Tyr saved up enough money she would be able to go get a cat or owl from the Magical Menagerie store in Diagon Alley.

Bitter Departure
As she waited on the train, she watched the scenery race by the window. While she was used to sometimes having one of her parents away for an extended trip, this would be her first time away from her family for an extended period of time. Nervously, she picked up the book she was reading and began again.
Time continued on, and she progressed through her book, devouring the story. There were Seers in this book, just like the ones her mom had claimed were in their family. Just like the her. At least that's what her mom thought.
Another hour went by and soon she could feel the train slowing down to arrive on Hogwarts ground.
"It has been nice getting to know you Lily! I'm sure I will see you more in school. Maybe we will get sorted into the same house! At least then we would both know someone kind of." With that, she gathered her belongings, and headed out the cabin door and off the train. Filing out of the train behind other students of all ages, she took her first step on the grounds that would become her home for the next seven years. It was her time to shine!
