Karime had finished her second week of classes and was doing well. She loved her charms and history of magic classes. She was always fascinated with how the world came to be and everything. She was hoping to get to be in the duelling club soon. You would think that is why she is in the library but now that is not why she is. Sadly she is stressing right now getting any book she can about the potions she learned in class. They were the simplest ones and she could do them when she was reading the book but having to remember how to do it without it was taking so much. She understood everything about it and what it did but remembering formulas is hard for her to grasp for some reason. She was home schooled about the basics of potion and science and she did get it but she also just does not like the subject for some reason. Math, magic, plants is her forte and she is very much into nature and wanting to become a Auror
Karime was sitting at a table on her own taking notes and just so focused on the book. Her mind was running as her anxiety slowly started to rise. She knows this isn't the end of the world but she is harsh on herself when it comes to doing good at school and this being the first time at an actual school may have been a little too much then she thought.

┃ Speech - #007514ℭaspian had only come to the library to return a book, and borrow another one—quick in, quick out. But the sight of someone surrounded by enough open volumes to give him a headache caught his attention.
The girl was younger than he was, and looked about ready to sink under her own pile of notes, quill tapping anxiously against the parchment. Her brow furrowed like she was trying to glare the potion instructions into listening to her.
He lingered for a moment, debating whether to keep walking. “Looks like you’re winning your duel with the textbook,” he said dryly. “Barely.” The next second, he found himself setting his borrowed book down across from her. He raised his hands in mock surrender. “Didn’t mean to interrupt. You just looked like you were about to set it on fire.”
He flipped the cover of his own book open but didn’t start reading, eyes drifting over the mess of parchment and ink in front of her. “Potions, huh?” he said after a moment. “That explains the look of impending doom.”
He leaned back in his chair, spinning his quill lazily between his fingers. “You’re a first year, right? I haven’t seen you around before." He tilted his head, studying the ink-stained notes and the neat columns of potion ingredients. “You’ve got good notes. That’s usually a sign of someone who actually cares about learning it."
He turned a page, pretending to read. “I’m Caspian,” he said after a moment. “Second year."
His gaze flicked toward her again, curious but not intrusive. “What’s your name?” he asked finally. “If I’m going to interrupt your study session, I should at least know who I’m annoying.”

He had then continued talking asking if it was potions she was dooming about and Karime nodded her head gently. He asks her if she was a first year student and then steps closer as he looks at her notes and says “You’ve got good notes. That’s usually a sign of someone who actually cares about learning it." This makes Karime smile softly as she doesn't get a lot of complements. He introduces himself as Caspian and that he is a second year. He finally ask for her name and Karime sighs as she sees Caspian has the book open in front of him a bit low
“My name is Karime and I am a first year student. Yes Im doing potions and Im good at taking notes but cant for the life of me remember the formulas and stuff without the book or notes”. She sighs and puts her head down as she groans and curses in Spanish softly. She is not in a good mood right now and really doesn't want to just give up or do something else as she has a test on what she is studying right now soon.

┃ Speech - #007514ℭaspian raised an eyebrow, catching the faint edge of frustration in her muttered Spanish. He didn’t understand every word, but the tone was universal enough—academic despair, a language every student spoke at some point. He tilted his head slightly, a flicker of amusement tugging at his mouth. “I don’t speak Spanish,” he said, voice even, “but I’m guessing that wasn’t a compliment to the textbook.”
He rested his chin on his hand, watching her for a moment longer. She really did look exhausted—eyes a little tired, ink smudged on her fingers, and that sort of tense energy that came from trying too hard for too long.
“Formulas are tricky,” he admitted after a pause. “Especially when they all look the same after a while. Half the time I would mix them up just because the words rhyme.”
He reached across the table and pulled one of her books a little closer. “Here,” he said, tapping the page. “You already know what each ingredient does, yeah? Then don’t think of it like you’re memorizing a bunch of steps. Think about why you add each thing. Like—why you stir before it boils, or why one ingredient has to go in first. It’s easier when you understand the reason behind it.”
He sat back and shrugged. “You’ll get it. You’re obviously trying. That’s more than most people do.”
His tone softened as she kept staring at her notes. “You know, If you keep glaring at it that hard,” he said lightly, “the ink’s going to disappear out of fear.”

Karime kept her head down as she was still stressed and made rumbly/fry noises with her mouth closed. She then looked up though when she heard him say “Formulas are tricky,". She looked up as he had paused and said “Especially when they all look the same after a while. Half the time I would mix them up just because the words rhyme.” This surprised her as she felt that everyone was good with potions. Especially second years and wouldn't have though they struggled too. She watched as he grabbed one of her books and brought it closer between them. She looked at the book as he said “You already know what each ingredient does, yeah?” Karime nods her head. “Then don’t think of it like you’re memorizing a bunch of steps. Think about why you add each thing. Like—why you stir before it boils, or why one ingredient has to go in first. It’s easier when you understand the reason behind it.”
Karime looked at her notes and it's like its clicks and she started understanding and looking at it differently then she did before. She still stared at the notes as she heard him say “You’ll get it. You’re obviously trying. That’s more than most people do.” This made Karime feel hopeful and a bit warm as she got a lot of compliments from her parents when it came to her studies and her tutor she had but hearing it from others and especially someone in a higher up class makes her feel good. She looked at the notes a bit with a furrow but slight smile as she started seeing Caspians point. She then heard him say “You know, If you keep glaring at it that hard…..the ink’s going to disappear out of fear.” This made her chuckle softly as she looked away from her notes and rubbed the back of her neck. She softly said “Sorry…. But I'm starting to see what you mean and it means a lot to me that you came up to me to help. Without even knowing me”. Karime smiles softly.

ℭaspian grinned, something easing in his chest despite how hard he tried to act like he hadn’t been waiting for it. He leaned back a little in his chair, trying to hide how pleased he was that she’d actually smiled. He pretended to study the cover of his book, but his eyes kept flicking back to her as she spoke. One thing he had noticed, though, was that first years always had that same combination of determination and quiet panic. Kind of like the castle itself was daring them to fail.
He listened to her apology intently—not that she owed him any.
“Hey, no need to apologize. Books can be brutal. And boring too I guess. But at least you’re not giving up.” he said, trying to make it sound easy, casual.
He tapped his fingers lightly against the table, drumming a pattern. He searched for the right words before adding, more quietly, "Trust me, if effort counted for grades, you’d be top of the year."
He grabbed an empty scrap of parchment that had fallen nearby on the floor, and rolled it between his fingers, the faint sound of parchment scraping itself making tiny but satisfying crunching and cracking noises. Faint amusement tugged at the corner of his mouth. “Besides, it’s more fun to help someone. Makes me feel like I’m actually doing something useful for a change.” He realized the library was quiet enough that his voice carried slightly, but he didn’t care.
He tilted his head, eyes drifting over her notes again, noticing the little side annotations she’d made. She clearly wanted to understand what she was learning, not just memorize.
He leaned forward slightly, elbows resting on the table, playing with the paper idly between his fingers. “So… tell me,” he said, voice lighter now, “which potion is making your brain hurt the most? Maybe I can show you a trick or two I picked up last year.”

Karime smile softly as she says “You dont know how much that means hearing that. I bet there are first years better than me and dont need effort but I guess just being homeschool all my life and not really going to a school is opening my eyes being here around other students. I know I shoudnt be hard on myself but I guess that just how I am”. Karime chuckle softly and rubs the back of her neck as she looks away a bit. She then looks back when he hears him grab a parchment and have it crunching and cracking which is something she would do to fidget or just focus on the noise when she has a panic attack. Its been months since she had one but she would have them oftens when she was younger and especially because her parents would sometimes have dangerous missions as Aurors and this would make her focus on her studies when she was younger and home schooled but still deep down always made her have a pit in her stomach until they returned home
Karime then looks to him when he ask her “which potion is making your brain hurt the most? Maybe I can show you a trick or two I picked up last year.” Karime things about it as softly say “The herbicide potion….” Karime furrows and frown softly as she chuckles nervous, “I know it suppose to be simple and easy but that the one that is and worries me because I know in the future years they only get harder and more advance the potions”

ℭaspian blinked in surprise when she said the name of the potion. It had been one of the easier brews for him last year, which made it a little hard to believe that was the one giving her the most trouble. For a second the answer caught him off guard. He opened his mouth to respond, then stopped himself, thinking it over.
Actually… now that he thought about it, the boy who’d been sitting next to him during that lesson was nearly losing their mind over it. He remembered he had gotten the potion wrong so many times, until the professor finally stepped in before it could turn into a disaster. So maybe it wasn’t that strange after all.
He leaned back slightly in his chair, the wood creaking quietly beneath him, and ran a hand through his hair while he thought. The library had grown noticeably quieter while they’d been talking. Most of the students who had been whispering earlier were gone now, and the ones who remained had sunk deeper into their own work. He almost missed the noise, even if it had been hushed.
“You know,” he said after a moment, voice low enough not to carry across the room, “for what it’s worth… you’re not the only one who’s had trouble with that one. Someone sat next to me last year who had a similar problem with that potion.”
Caspian leaned forward a little, elbows resting on the table now as he looked at the page she had open. “I mean… everyone’s brain works a little differently,” he continued, lowering his voice as he spoke. “But what usually helps me isn’t remembering the order so much as remembering what each ingredient is actually supposed to do.”
The light above flickered, catching faintly in the ink stains on his fingers. He noticed them absently and rubbed his thumb across one of the smudges. His eyes drifted over the fortress of books around her again. There were a lot of them. She had been pushing too hard for too long, and it was very obvious.
Caspian wasn't really the type to study...or read for the matter. He rarely touched books, and when he did, he would get bored and put them back. He always wondered how people were able to sit in one place for a long amount of time reading words off a paper, but that was just him.
“Alright,” he said, lowering his voice slightly like he was letting her in on some kind of secret. “Let’s try something.” His finger pointed back to the first step of the potion instructions. “If you had to explain why that ingredient goes in first,” he said, “what would you say? And why?”
