The Girl Knows Too Much!

7 December 2021
"YOW!"
Colin smirked as he jabbed some random seventh year kid with his bony elbow. That was certainly one perk of being a first year at Hogwarts --- everyone wore black robes and wouldn't notice a wee little firstie shoving his way through the crowded corridors! Hah! There she was up ahead! Colin would recognise that mass of red hair anywhere! Plus she always smelled of chocolate!
They'd only just started talking recently. Colin was sorry that they hadn't met before. She knew Kim and Colin was certain they'd be besties for ever! "Ayo Soph!" Colin called out as he grabbed hold of the door frame, swung around, and tumbled into the classroom. She gave him a smirky smile. Colin felt like they'd known each other for their entire lives! Their conversation picked right up where it left off.
“I really wish we'd met earlier Colin! Also fair warning," the Ravenclaw girl said, pausing dramatically; "I think Kim wants to seduce you this summer.”
“Wait. What —?” Colin blinked. Was this the same Kim Colin already knew? Or a different Kim? Knowing Sophia, it had to be the same Kim!
“Wait no — not summer. I misspoke. Some day!" Sophia blushed. Her retraction came tumbling out of her mouth, which confused Colin even more. Why would Kim do that? And what did ducks have to do with anything? "He's gonna drag you along when I’m in a rebel phase so he's not third wheeled. mwahahahaha!!” Sophia gave him an evil grin.
Colin scratched his head --- thoroughly confused. They sat down at their desk and Colin tipped out the contents of his satchel. Notebook, quills, ink pot, textbook, bits of curious things he'd picked up on his explorations. Everything clattered and came to rest at last on the wooden surface. "Maybe by then I'll understand what ye're talking about?"
Sophia smiled and scratched behind Colin's ears. “It'll all be fine. Good boiiiiii!”
Colin leaned in for nice scratches. His eyes defocussed. “Mmmmmm....” Colin never knew it before, but he actually liked ear scritches.
“If I ever learns you’re a good boi I’m gonna pet you! Fair warning!” Sophia said as Colin leaned into her hand.
“I’m always a good boy!" he retorted, narrowing his eyes at Sophia. "Except when I’m causing trouble somewhere!”. Colin smirked.
“What kind of trouble, I wonder?” Sophia asked innocently. Colin should have known better.
“Oh! Totally innocuous stuff! You know: a little button pushing; like, I’m totally suspicious of that girl in history class Donald was chatting with; and of course, I can also entertain meself by causing me own trouble!” Colin was actually proud of his minor troublemaking thus far at Hogwarts. He even snuck out of the common room and up to the owlery one night to see all the owls!
Colin turned his head a bit so she could reach around and scratch behind his left ear. She practically squealed! "AHHHHHH — SEE WHAT I MEAN — AWWW, You're sooooo adorable!"
“Aawww! It’s okay we didn’t meet earlier — better late than never, right!?”
“Speaking of late, you Colin should invest in a watch!” Sophia said firmly.
Colin gave Sophia his best injured look: “But Sophia I've got a watch! See?" He pulled an old looking brass pocketwatch out of his kilt pocket. "And anyway, I was totally early for class! There's hardly anyone here yet! And anyway --- HEYYY!!!!”
Sophia stole Colin's watch right out of his fingers, checking the time on it. “Hey! Don't mess with it Soph! I just wound it and everything!”
Sophia poked it aggressively with her wand. Colin's eyes sprang open, wondering if she were going to try and transfigure it into a whistle or something! "Oi! Easy lass!” he cried.
The girl seemed to get frustrated, and she began shaking the watch. “It's not digital.” Her eyebrows knit together as she examined the watch more closely.
“What's a what now?” Colin wondered what foxglove had to do with watches! “Digitalis? I don't think we've done that in herbology yet. And gie us our watch back! That was me older brother's when he went to school here!”
Sophia stood up on the bench and held the watch above her head, trying to keep it away from Colin. But she clearly forgot one critical detail: she didn't realise Colin was quite a lot taller that her! Oof.
Colin's eyes focussed on the watch intently as Sophia tried to keep it out of reach. His nostrils flared slightly as he tracked the old brass thing swinging on its chain in her hand.
Then a quick leap! With hardly a sound, Colin cleared the bench and the desk! he stretched out his thin fingers!
“Gotcha!” he cried!
Sophia yelped at the sudden leap. Settling back down on the bench, she patted Colin on the head.
“Gooood boooooyyyyy!”
Colin laughed merrily at her yelping and yammering! Colin leaned into the nice patting. Mmm...
Drat, Colin thought.
The girl knows too much already!
