The moon hung low above the water, its reflection dancing to the rhythm of the peaceful waves disturbing its serenity. Its rays cast a ghost-like glow upon the scene, bathing it in an ethereal silver mist that appears to shimmer upon water. An eerie silence floats above the rippled surface of the lake, as if the night itself held its breath, waiting. Far in the distance, howling rose in the crisp cold air, a gloomy symphony whose notes provoked a shiver down the spine of whoever was listening. The shining celestial body hovering above the lake was in a plump waxing gibbous, illuminating the scene almost as brightly as its daylight companion, and allowing the crowd slowly gathering on the shores to distinguish where their foot was about to land, though it would be advised to carefully observe said landing area, as one never knows what might lurk in the shadows.

As to our students, impersonating for the occasion various inhabitants of the deep ocean, from the courageous crew sailing above the treacherous waters to precisely what was prowling underneath, they had been welcomed aboard The Silent Scythe, once the deadliest batiment to scour the uncharted seas, rumored to have amassed a treasure so large the captain was even richer than the royalty of some unmentioned countries. At some point during the peak of his glory, his ship mysteriously disappeared from the world's surface, leaving behind a myriad of stories and forever lost treasure. Until... until this legend of a ship was found crashed on the shores of a known lake, completely wrecked, yet perfectly preserved from time's cruel grasps.

Upon exiting the deck of The Silence Scythe through a secondary entrance leading towards the darkened surface of the lake, students would step into an entirely different world, made of crashing waves and glistening pearls. Indeed, floating inches above the water were platforms, the illusions cast over them reflecting the troubled ripples below, and one would have the distinct impression of walking atop the water's surface. In each corner, elegant pillars rose, supporting rays of softly shining string lights, as well as shells, pearls and algae woven through the intricate patterns of solid ropes. Sheer fabrics in blue and green hues were suspended at various places, floating in the gentle breeze that brushed the scene. At the feet of each pillar was found tables covered in candles, pearls and delicate shells, each offering soft drinks and refreshments.

A delicate music reached the ears, coming from a sunken gramophone, it seemed to have been freshly recovered from an underwater shipwreck. The scene had every aspect of a peaceful fairytale, and yet appearances are often quite deceiving. Step ahead, beloved guest. Do not mind the delightful chant that rises each time the music stops, do not pay attention to the human-like shadows that seem to lurk right beneath your feet. Dance carelessly underneath the moonlight—after all, who might care your steps are growing dangerously close to the waves?

The Ball at the Lake
"A soft golden glow dances gently on the still surface of the lake,
a magical ball resting quietly beneath the twilight sky."
The warmth of the light contrasts with the cool blue water,
casting ripples that shimmer like scattered stars.

Lindsey stood at the edge of the path leading down to the lake, her hands folded tightly around the small clutch she wasn’t even sure she’d use. Her breath came in short, careful puffs, visible in the semi cool night air that she wad standing in. She took a moment to just… watch everything. She took in the scenes of the lake and everything, preparing her mind for what she was going to say.

The lake had been completely transformed. Golden lanterns floated above the surface like stars that had fallen just low enough to admire their own reflections. Leaves drifted through the air in slow spirals, enchanted to never quite touch the ground. There was laughter in the distance, the faint sound of music carried on the breeze, and a smell—of salt water and food and um...it just smelled so good.

She glanced down at her gown, smoothing the midnight-blue fabric over her waist and looking down at her gorgeous heels. All she knew was that her feet were going to hurt tomorrow. The grown it self, shimmered when she moved, subtle but noticeable, like the night sky stretched and sowed into the fabric. A delicate crystal necklace with a gorgeous blues and purple in it, sat at her collarbone, catching the lantern light with every breath. She had gone bold with her eyes—midnight kinda gradient shadow lined with a soft shimmerly glitter, like stars.

And now she was looking for him.

Jose.

Her heart jumped just at the thought. Spotting him near the water, she hesitated only a second before walking toward him, trying not to overthink every step.

“Hi,” she said, her voice soft, but sure and embarresd. “You look… really good.”

She smiled, just a little too wide, then looked away briefly—embarrassed, but glowing. This was happening. She was really goibg with him. Her crush. And suddenly, the magic in the air- in her life felt very, very real to her

𝕊ummer walked into the Fall ball tentatively. Would she leave like last time or would she stay and hopefully have fun? Only time would tell for the time now, Summer would give it a better shot this year, not leaving almost as soon as she walked through the doors. It had taken a lot of owls from Ellie convincing her to give it a shot this year. Summer didn't know why she had walked to the dance floor instead of dinner first. She wasn't hungry but that might have been good to ease herself into this whole "ball thing". Whatever the case. She was here.

She took a breath and walked onto the dance floor. Almost no one was there yet. She looked, at the clock, it was still pretty early but she would think a little more people would be at the ball. Or maybe they all got food first Summer thought, her purple dress swishing as her ankles as she walked. Her mom had tried to get her to wear something more elaborate when she had chosen a knee length dress. And this purple ankle length, showing her shoulders and layers of silk was her compromise. Her parents didn't follow pureblood mania most of the times for for this ball they wanted her to look the best and not like some poor muggle born. Their words, not hers. Summer had never seen them so persistant about her wearing a fancy dress. Summer had on light lavender eyeshadow, black mascara and pink lipgloss. Nothing fancy.

Summer made it to the edge of where the small group of others were, but she kept her distance, swaying to the light beat of the music. She wouldn't admit it to her parents, but she liked the dress probably more than the other one she almost bought. The layers of silk made it look really pretty when she twirled.

The Weeping Shore 2025 Fall Ball
As always. Zach told his mom about everything that happened in school including the Ball. And it has been his fourth time attending the event. Even with this fact, his mother was always excited for the event. After getting the details from his son, Yarnitia sent him a costume that she thinks would suit the event. It was a cream -colored shirt with a deep teal vest that was layered with a lighter teal chiffon that had golden embroidery and reached the floor, making it look like a tailcoat. There were also dark blue trousers and a pair of teal high boots, also with a golden embroidery that shone under the light. She told Zach to take a picture of him wearing it. So Zach took a picture before he left his dorm to the Great Lake, where the event was held.

If you wonder if Zach didn't wear his glasses again for the ball, you're right. It was the same reason as the previous balls, the glasses ruined his look. He also prepared some potions in case he would need any. His wand was also sitting tightly inside his vest.

Unlike the old times when he came to the event with an empty stomach, he had eaten enough but still had room for some things. His priority for this ball was dancing. He wouldn't dance alone, of course. He invited Landon to this ball. The Hufflepuff really helped him with Flying and he grew more and more comfortable around the boy.

He waited for the boy near one of the pillars on the platform while listening to the music. His eyes looked around, observing the place.

“Woah,” Joseph breathed, pushing back his oversized purple tricorne for a better view of the area. Soft glowing lights. Ornate pearls and shells. Dim, flickering candles. The way the floor patterns seemed to shift beneath him - intangible waves threatening to sweep him into its gloomy embrace.

It was beautiful. Unsettlingly beautiful. Like those old jewellery shops Grandma brought him to as a wee child. Always teeming with glitter and gold, but disturbingly antique and mysterious. Especially the jewel-encrusted mirrors. Those always gave him the heebie jeebies.

Taking a tentative step forward, Joseph pressed his lips together, surprised to find solid ground. Illusions, he thought, torn between awe and irritation. Dancing was hard enough. Dancing while fearing being thrust into the churning waters beneath was a whole other story.

He felt a slight nudge at his ankle.

It was Astra, his pet rock - now fitted into her fiercely adorable parrot outfit. A smile twitched at the corner of his lips. He wasn’t alone. Whatever cannonballs this ball threw at them, Captain Joseph and his feathered crewmate were ready to weather the storm.

Any further fantasies of crossing the Atlantic Ocean with his beloved companion were cut short by the entry of a familiar girl.

“Aye, Lass Lindsey,” Joseph barked, bending low to greet her with an exaggerated bow. He stumbled over his own leg, earning him a disappointed glance from Astra. “I’m only going by Captain Joseph tonight. Joining us is my dear mate, Astra the parrot.” He scooped the fluffy parrot-rock off the ground, affectionately ruffling its bright red feathers.

It couldn’t be legal for a rock to look this cute.

Lindsey’s expression flickered between embarrassment and joy as she complimented his brazen purple pirate outfit.

“Thanks,” he murmured, a faint blush creeping onto his cheeks. The fit had been rather haphazardly selected, the colours too strikingly bold, the hat five sizes too big. It didn’t matter. Joseph never seemed to fit in with the rest, anyway.

He grinned down at Astra, before lifting his gaze to meet Lindsey’s again. “So… whatcha wanna do now?”

Speech -- Thoughts
Darn, she should've listened to Ruth.

Truth be told, Pam had been super excited about this specific ball, mainly because of how it was themed around water and water creatures. Like, sirens and pirates? Pam was definitely all for it.

And so she had splurged on her clothes, as much as she could with her father's permission, that is, and had brought her outfit and a whole lot of jewellery. She was aiming to look very pretty.

If only I had bought some more of those seashelled jewellery though. That was probably Pam's only regret about the event. That booth at the summer camp had been selling a lot of pretty trinkets which would've been perfect for the occasion. Not to mention they had been much cheaper than the studded earrings she had bought afterwards. She didn't even know who the girl who had run the booth was.

Too bad.

Unfortunately for her, her excitement had caused them to be way too early to the ball. And by they, she meant Ruth Fairchild, since Pam had dragged her best friend against her wishes, therefore rendering her unable to tend to her own owl as she would've probably liked to.

"Our owls can take better care of themselves than we can take of ourselves." Pam had told her. Now though, she was wishing she had let the girl do what she wanted, since she was probably gonna kill her now.

The place was undoubtedly stunning. It was like it had been picked out of a fantasy book and brought to life for everyone to see. Gods, magic is amazing.

Waves.

Pam watched the waves which seemed to form the floor, the... dance floor? The waters seemed alive that evening, layers of blue-black turning over themselves in a way that was beautiful, but almost eerie. The girl blinked up, casting her gaze across the others who were already here, a bright purple pirate suit catching her attention almost immediately, and Pam knew who it was before she even say him. Typical Joseph— wait is he standing on the water?

It did infact seem like he was walking over the water, and the thought itself made Pam step up curiously, a disappointed sigh playing her lips as her shoe did not, in fact, actually touch the water. Oh man.

It didn't bother Pam for too long, as she turned to Ruth with a smile, "Well then, shall we start our evening?"

Once Zach had invited Landon to the ball, he couldn't say no. Landon wasn't going to disappoint his friend by not agreeing to go with him. Right now, Zach was the closest friend he had at the school. Landon was a little hesitant about this one, since it seemed to be another watery theme, but he wasn't going to let his last ball experience where he almost drowned scare him away from having fun. Landon's twin, Harper, chose his outfit for him, though in her preference, he would be wearing something far more elaborate. But Landon was a simple sort of person, and wearing a simple teal colored suit was enough for him.

Harper, while loving balls and being the center of attention, had chosen to avoid at least this one because of the water theme. She detested water and couldn't swim, while Landon could swim. He just didn't want to end up in the water again this time. Landon tucked his wand into his pocket as he walked toward the ball, mentally preparing himself. No event at Hogwarts ever happened without some sort of chaos erupting.

Landon walked toward the ball, smiling when he saw Zach standing by the pillars. He approached him with a wave. "You look great!" he said. "My twin would have loved if I dressed more like you, but I talked her into letting me dress more like myself," he explained. Landon looked around the ball, humming softly. "They really like to go all out here," he said with a grin. "Here's hoping that we both won't end up in the water this time."

Great Lake, Hogwarts
Though dressed as a mid-19th century British Royal Navy sea captain, Cassius needed to do the very un-captainlike thing and abandon ship. Indeed, the Silence Scythe, though a fine ship despite its ultimate fate, had become a tad too laden with passengers which necessitated the departure for more personal space. With bicorne tucked away under one arm of his epaulet-capped peacoat, he stepped off the ship and onto one of the many floating ‘islands’ that had been enchanted to appear as if part of the water itself.

The heels of his boots made satisfying thuds as he walked across the primary island, eyes scanning the much thinner crowd for familiar faces. So many were young, as they were on the ship. First and second year students whose faces Cassius had barely begun to put names to. That was seven years ago. Seven. It made him reflect on his own first years at Hogwarts. Despite an almost debilitating shyness and lack of friends he had held such an optimistic view of the world then.

No longer.

He had experienced the reality of this broken world since then. A flawed world for flawed people – human and otherwise. It was a world that could not be fixed – simply maintained. The tenuous social contract struggling to keep some sort of order amongst the chaos. He would soon exist out in that world, beyond the protective walls of Hogwarts and even the Ministry itself.

Some distance onto the platforms, Cassius found a mostly secluded spot and stared out over the waves of the lake. Such a tiny place in the grandness of the planet. Here he stood, just one wizard amongst thousands. Already a step above the common muggle, his was an inheritance that demanded greatness. Demanded to not simply be a spectator. In that moment he began to wonder – truly wonder – what might be his mark on the world.

MOD POST ONE
The light shimmered on the lake's peaceful surface, small ripples with unknown cause disturbing it's pristine aspect, as if an invisible rock had been thrown from afar. A cool breeze swirled around the place, curling around guests and sending delightful shivers down their spines. Despite the freshness of the night, many students were already milling around the edges of the lake, leisurely walking down the path leading from the majestuous ship to the arrangement of platforms that seemed to levitate just above the water. Musical notes were gently rising in the night, classical tunes inviting one to waltz to them. Mingling with them were other equally harmonious, though slightly out-of-tune, notes that seemed to come from the water itself. Strange.

Though the scenery was indeed breathtaking, it was no match to the spectacular array of costumes and dresses that kept flooding through the door, each as stunning as its predecessor — gowns who seemed to have been torn from the very fabric of the starry sky, to a lilac in full bloom, as well as sea-like dresses... For the gentlemen stepping onto the lake, pirate and sailors appeared to be the keyword of the night. One (@joseph sims) had taken it to a complete other level, draped in bright purple as an adorable parrot-pet rock was perched on his shoulder. Another (@cassius eden) had decided to move time forward, landing in the midst of the 19th century. Creativity was indeed found in each soul entering, all choosing to mold themselves to the theme, adding a lovely spark to the ambient atmosphere.

Though some of them appeared quite concerned regarding the very floor they were perched upon, taking a few hesitant steps as though they might sink and drown beneath the surface. For indeed, the illusions casted by the platforms mimicked remarkably the ever changing pattern of the ocean, waves brushing the shore right beneath their feet. In fact, the bright iris pirate (@joseph sims) had taken the first leap, suitly followed by a blonde wrapped in azure silk (@pamela graham), and both seemed to be slightly disappointed by witnessing water had not become miraculously solid, and that they were in fact standing on solid ground.

Lights flickered above their heads, as the music gently twirled around the scenery, inviting guests to abandon their worries and waltz beneath the moon. One might even feel a strange pull towards the saccharine notes, as though some sort of magic was woven through the melody. Beneath the surface of the water, fleeting shadows swam, some strangely humanoid. The evening was only beginning, and yet already whispers were heard, promising a night full of mysteries and thrill.

The Weeping Shore 2025 Fall Ball
Dennis, holding Violence’s hand, exited the ship and as they were about to step onto the dance floor, first thought…there was no dance floor? Well…this was about to get very interesting! HIs heart raced but his stride never faltered. The boy who never cowered stepped onto the translucent platform confidently and in time to the haunting waltz floating through the atmosphere. “I got you,” he said surely as the stepped together, should Violence hesitate at all.

Once they were both feeling secure, Dennis took a moment to admire the handiwork of the team. A platform that showed the lake below, the soft lighting setting a romantic if not harrowing atmosphere. The colonnades and silks and decor. One could easily imagine they were dancing not above the water but in a space in-between. Sunken, sinking, but still irresistibly enchanting. With a motion that said, “Shall we” but with an eager hand that said “Yes, we shall.” Dennis took one hand in his, the other hugged her waist, perhaps standing closer than he dared last time they were in this position, and spun her around in time to the rhythm of the music.

“Perhaps I am a better dancer than last time?” He said his face, his eyes, so close to hers, he didn’t know what quite got over him. Perhaps it was the mood, perhaps it was that at every turn, Violence and him seemed so similar. But for a moment, this felt right. Like he never wanted this moment to fade.
