@Raizel VoltrouzIt was mid-morning, the wind blowing gently, but the air was crisp and smelled of raindrops about to fall from the overcast, gloomy sky. Meyra pulled her cloak tighter around her chest, as she felt the cold breeze trying to penetrate beneath her clothes making her slightly shiver at its touch. But even though the weather wasn't inviting enough for being outside, Mey embraced the feeling. She really needed a moment of peace between classes, and the corridors were too crowded with too much commotion around.
Her footsteps brought her to the viaduct, it had been rare the occasions where she had found herself crossing the old stone large bridge. Once she was alone, no students or staff member around, she let go of a sight of relief letting her satchel fall to the ground unceremoniously and leaned her elbows on the top of the small stone wall that lined the edge between the arcades. For a moment she just stood there, looking at the agitated waters of the great lake that stretched through all the landscape and to the vast sea of trees that went from the grounds and mingled with the Forbidden Forest.
Her mind had been restless lately, the same issue nagging at her over and over again, and she still didn't know what to do and make of all of it. If on the one hand she knew that she had betrayed the trust that her family had placed in her, on the other hand, she couldn't avoid that unpleasant feeling that it was her family who were keeping secrets that she had a right to know. Maybe they really never trusted her in the first place, maybe what she did was really the only way to make things right after all.
But what could she really do? What did she want to do? In the back of her mind she kept replying to herself that she should write a letter to the person that so desperately wanted to meet her, the person that had been responsible for her own existence alongside her mother. A person she couldn't muster to call father or anything resembling that role in her life. At least not yet...maybe never.
She took the folded piece of parchment from her pocket and opened the letter for what could be the hundredth time, and her eyes scanned through the uneven handwriting until she found the signature at the end of it. Her heart always gave a strange lurch when she read that name. Moray McCoire... McCoire, like Colin and Liam. Would they be related after everything? She had been thinking approaching the twins, to ask if they ever heard of a Moray in their family. But every start of that possible conversation sounded weird in her ears. And how would they react if they actually find out they were family? How would she react? Would be that easy to accept being part of a family that abandoned her and her mother? Would she really want them to know what she had found out with that letter? "Aaaarghh" she softly groaned, it was too damn complicated. She folded the letter again and with a show of clear irritation she shoved it again inside her pocket.

❂《 ⌜ September 8, 2025 ▎ Sometime ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Not… enough… nothing felt enough. Her skills, her efforts, they weren't enough.
Unsatisfying.
She hungers for more… more power. She'll do anything just to quell that hunger even if it means seeking what's not supposed to be sought. If it was the only way for her to finally feel satisfied, to stop feeling so jealous of others' success then it must be what she should chase after. She was sick and tired of feeling so pathetic and weak. Who could she help in her current condition?
To become stronger, that had always been what she wanted. To be successful, to be like her father who is out there helping others. She had strived for it in a way that was acceptable to society: working hard, pushing herself to the limit but nothing changed. She was doing something wrong and she doesn't know what until a certain thought ran through her head.
Dark Arts…
No, she shouldn't let her curiosity dive deep into it. Dark Arts is called dark for a reason, she should know it by now especially when it's one of the lessons they’ll be tackling during this year. But the power that was promised by it was tempting. It was more than what regular spells and practice could give her. What was wrong in seeking for more strength if it was for the sake of others? Nothing… right?
“Nothing…” It was a thought that kept coming back, the very reason why Raizel had become so distant, wanting to be alone with her own thoughts more than being with her friends. It was to think about the path that she was planning to take and to contemplate if she was still worthy to be called as a friend when all she could feel towards them was jealousy at the sight of their own accomplishments. She used to have a destination like the duelling club and the Quidditch Training Pitch to hone her skills. Now, she had found herself wandering whenever she had free time with no exact destination in mind. She was lost, uncertain of what steps to take, questioning the methods that her mind was screaming for her to consider. It was for her goal after all.
Raizel sighed, keeping her head low with eyes on the ground and hands inside her pants’ pockets. The only time she looked up was to look at the sight that the viaduct was popular for. The gorge below and lake in the distance. It was calming, much more so when she felt the chilly breeze blowing past. For once, her mind felt at peace but of course, that didn't last. That familiar figure in the distance made her frown and bite her lip. She was one of the people that she didn't want to see. No, it was not because she hated her but rather, she just doesn't want to be seen in this pathetic condition.
Back in their dorm, she had made sure she doesn't falter in keeping her mask on all the time. Tiring but she didn't want Meyra to worry, not when the other Gryffindor was also dealing with her own problems. She had to be the strong one after all even if she too, was crumbling inside. A part of her wanted to take a few steps back and find another place to go and another was telling her it was fine to approach her, much more so when she looked troubled. She had promised to be there for her after all.
Another sigh escaped her before dragging herself to where the girl was standing and looking so lost. “Rough day?” That was the first thing she said as she stopped just behind her.

@Raizel VoltrouzMeyra slowly turned her head to look over her shoulder when she heard the familiar voice calling behind her. Usually she would have smiled at seeing her cousin and close friend, but she found herself not even capable of managing a small tug on her lips, "You may say so." She replied in an almost empty voice, turning her head again to look at the view beyond the viaduct.
She sighed and let her head fall, her eyes looking down at her hands thoughtfully. "Don't know what to do about that letter." She muttered as a form of explanation. Meyra still hasn't told Raizel what she discovered after her cousin helped her get that piece of her story from her mother's office. Mey still hadn't been able to express all the conflict it had brought her, it felt like she was poking at a still open wound.
Mey's green eyes turned back to her friend, her brows furrowing slightly as her mind got diverted from the turmoil living within her, to the person beside her. She had met Raizel a year earlier and since then they had become close friends, she was part of her family and brought a piece of home to Hogwarts. Since she had met her, there wasn't a moment she felt alone, their dorm never felt like a strange place as they always got each other. At least that's how Mey has always felt it.
And maybe, for those who didn't know the fourth year Gryffindor as well as she did, the mask wouldn't have been noticed, but Meyra knew that there was also something different with Rai, something seem to be consuming her, and as always, she was keeping everything to herself. Mey didn't say a word to her, never asked any questions about it, because she wanted to give her cousin space. She knew very well that there were some things that seemed to want to stay stuck in one's chest and not let go and spread out, some things were simply hard to share, even felt forbidden.
Meyra let another sigh escape her and turned her gaze again towards the dark vast waters beneath the stone bridge. There was a moment of silence that stretched for a few minutes between them. Mey swallowed the knot forming on her throat before deciding to speak again, "I found who my..." She started, but her voice got caught at mid-sentence. She couldn't bring herself to call him father... "Who he is." She managed to say, knowing Raizel would understand who she was referring to. "I don't know what to do about it Rai." She said keeping her voice strong, almost detached, but inside she felt the whirlwind of emotions rising again, clawing at her heart.

❂《 ⌜ September 8, 2025 ▎ Sometime ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔The letter, the same one Meyra snuck out of her own mother’s room. One that contains a secret that the younger Gryffindor wanted to know. Raizel had been curious about that letter and what she had found out but of course, she didn't ask anything about it. Not once had she brought it up as she found it to be something that Meyra might want to keep to herself. Now, it looks like she was ready to share what she had discovered and the older Gryffindor knew that she couldn't back away now, not when Meyra needed company.
Her eyes met her step-cousin’s when she turned to face her, seeing how troubled she looked but for a brief moment, it was like those concerns weren't directed at Meyra herself but rather… at her. She would've looked away. After being with Meyra for almost a year now, a part of her knew that her facade won't hold in her presence. She was one of the few people who knew her well and if that was the case, probably one of the first who would be able to notice the changes that she's desperately trying to hide. Deep down, Raizel knew it wouldn't last, it was surprising that it lasted this long even. It was that very reason why keeping her distance became her only choice. Approaching Meyra was probably a mistake but who could blame her? Seeing someone in need had always been her weakness, especially when it was someone close to her. The only time she didn't was when she was filled with a disgusting feeling of jealousy. She didn't want to do that again. It was awful.
Lucky for her, Meyra didn't say anything, giving her a sense of relief that perhaps the facade wasn't as broken as she thought it would be. That or she just didn't want to bring it up much like how Raizel is doing when it comes to the other girl’s troubles. Respect for privacy… she was thankful for that and besides, her troubles are her own. Raizel leaned forward and let her arms rest on the stone wall, looking back at the distant lake as she listened. “So the letter mentioned him?” She asked. To be honest, she didn't know what to say to her. She didn't know what the circumstances were in their family, especially about her father. “Who is it?”

@Raizel VoltrouzMeyra gave a tight small smile as Raizel asked her about who he as. Not that she didn't want to tell her cousin, it was just that the words seemed to curl on her tongue, like it formed a knot that made it so difficult to turn them into a sound. Mey sighed again, preparing to confess everything to Rai, she really needed someone with who to share all of that, and Raizel was one of the few people she actually trusted.
Meyra softly groaned, cupping her face between her hands as she looked down at the running waters beneath the old viaduct. Feeling Rai's presence besides her was encouraging, even if she felt somehow different, that wasn't enough to make Mey feel discomfort around her best friend. "Moray McCoire." Meyra replied in a voice that was barely a whisper, as if saying it out loud was simply wrong, even if rationally she couldn't explain why it would be so.
The youngest Gryffindor turned her head slightly to give Raizel a side look, "Can you believe it?" She asked in a soft, disheartening voice suddenly caught in the weigh of the truth, like if saying that name to Rai was like admitting out loud that there was someone else beside her father. Because Rodney Lancaster was her father and she didn't want that to change. Perhaps that was her biggest fear, she may have realised, that in all that pursuit for the truth, she would have to end up making a choice she didn't want to make. Or worse, that she no longer had a choice...in her curiosity for answers, she was afraid of losing who was really important to her.
She turned again to look at the wild landscape before them, "I've no idea what to do." She confessed with sadness lacing her voice, her heart tightening in an angst grip like it did every time she thought about all that, "If I should send him a letter....if I should try and find out who he is first...if I should talk with mom and dad..." She sighed, "I thought asking... Colin or Liam...you know them right?" She asked turning to give a brief glance at Raizel, "Maybe they know him and I can understand through them if it's worthy...you know?" She shrugged, her shoulders falling down with an invisible weight, "What would you do Rai?" She asked her older cousin, her green eyes looking at her with a sad, silent plea.

❂《 ⌜ September 8, 2025 ▎ Sometime ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔“McCoire? As in like… Colin McCoire? From the same family?” Raizel asked further. She was shocked of course although it just doesn't show that much anymore with how she had become less expressive when it came to her own emotions but the tone of her voice should be enough to tell as well as that raised eyebrow when she glanced at Meyra. Small world huh. When it comes to the McCoire’s… she doesn't have a lot to say to be honest. She doesn't know them that much aside from them being pureblood families. Not like she had ever had any interest in other wizarding families aside from her own even though sometimes she wishes she wasn't a part of it because of their difficult relatives. Guess the good ones like the ones on Meyra’s side, maybe her uncle’s and as well as the ones on her mother's side like Astra made her family more tolerable.
Back to the McCoires though. Again, she doesn't have a lot to say and she barely interacted with them but when she did, Colin had been nothing but kind to her, maybe a bit cool too. “Can’t say I was expecting that one.” Raizel admitted, the revelation being a bit hard to believe but she didn't linger on the thought for too long because of Meyra’s concerns about this discovery. It made her go silent to let the younger Gryffindor voice out her concerns, of her confusion and how lost she seemed in this situation and then the next question made her think about what to say next:
What would you do Rai?
Raizel leaned forward to gaze some more on the gorge below, getting a bit deep in her thoughts as she tried to formulate a satisfying answer for the girl who looked like she was seeking wisdom from her. She hated being looked at like she has the answer to an important question like this. She was afraid of letting them down when her answer wasn't that satisfying or something that could lead them down further into the hole that they were in. She couldn't look at Meyra for a few minutes, hands clenched. She then sighed, deciding to just answer to what she felt was right for herself.
“I’d probably won't care that much…” She started, her gaze now to the skies. “Well, I guess there would still be a part of me that would want to meet them, to know them a bit but aside from those… probably nothing else. My family is the one that I have right now and nothing will change that. Sure, perhaps we aren't really family by blood but… might as well be with how they were the one who stood by me through all this time.” Raizel sighed once more, letting her head rest on her arms as she leaned forward again. “I don't know the circumstances concerning your family though. Don't even know if your father, the McCoire one, is a good person or not. Maybe diving a bit to know what happened would help you decide on what to do in the future, on how things ended up the way they are now. I don't think you need to decide now on what you should do.”
Raizel pushed herself away from the stone wall, shoving her hands into her pants’ pockets. She turned her head to look at Meyra again. “Important decisions like that would need time to be thought about.”

@Raizel VoltrouzMey looked up at her cousin, noticing how her tone of voice sounded weirdly uncharacteristically of her, but the expression she found on Rai's face told her enough. That her cousin felt it as shocking as it had felt for her when she read that name in the letter. "I don't know..." She shrugged "Maybe it's just a coincidence." Mey continued slightly frowning at her own doubt. Because if she was to be honest with herself, there's always been something...some feeling, some sense of familiarity that she had felt for the twins since the day they met. Maybe related to her wolf instincts, maybe a form of sixth sense or maybe it has only been another coincidence with no deep meaning at all.
"Yeah..." the youngest Gryffindor replied with a short amused scoff, cupping her face between both her hands as her elbows leaned on the small stone wall that edged the bridge. "From all people..." She muttered, looking at no specific point as her mind brought her the picture of the most annoying blondes she had the pleasure of meet.
“I’d probably won't care that much…”
She heard Rai starting to speak and quickly turned her head to look at her cousin with raised eyebrows. From all the words, that combination was not one she was expecting to hear. But she let Rai continue without interrupting her, she had asked for an advice, all she could do was listening and she was not waiting for her cousin to be less than sincere with her.
A deep sigh escaped from her chest as Rai finished her honest advice to her. She turned to lean her back on the stone wall instead and crossed her arms over her chest as she fell into her own thoughts, pondering about what she had just heard from her friend and measuring it with her own feelings, that were proving to still be pretty much entangled.
She was suddenly jolted back to reality as someone shout an incantation to the wind and soon a glow of green sparks exploded from a place too much close to her and Rai, "What the..." Mey started with a scowl but soon her eyes met with Colin's that was walking to cross the bridge. She followed him with her eyes as he continued his way in his normal high and loud energy, all smiles and happiness. She shook her head slightly but ended up cracking a smile at his words, he was not just silly annoying, he was contagious and she was not completely immune to him, "Tell her I wish her a happy birthday!" She yelled at him as he was getting further away from them, "And my condolences for having to spend it with you!" She finished, an amused smile spreading across her lips, "What an idiot..." She muttered humorously.
Mey's green eyes had gained a different spark though, as if Colin had taken with him one of the grey, heavy clouds that had been hovering over her head, and her heart felt less tight on her chest after Rai's advice. "I think you're right Rai, as always to be fair." She gave her cousin and friend a small smile, "I'll never stop loving my family, no matter what else I'm going to find. I just hope they will keep loving me too you know?" She asked, her voice lowing into a sadder tone again, "After they find what I have done." She said, nervously fidgeting with the large sleeve of her Gryffindor's robe, "Maybe I'll write him a letter..."

❂《 ⌜ September 8, 2025 ▎ Sometime ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔It's funny when you start talking about someone, they suddenly make their presence known and in their case, it was Colin who decided to announce his presence and with a flash and bang as well. Bright green light lit up a bit close to where they were and of course, Raizel's first instinct was to reach for her own wand, pausing midway of drawing it out from its holster. It wasn't because she realized it was just Colin messing with them as always but because of how different it felt. That was a given considering that her wand was not the same as before with the old one finally reaching its breaking point last year. She sighed and pushed the wand back into its holster. She wasn't sure if she could use it properly despite accepting her as its owner and she wouldn't want to cast a spell on Colin anyway without a proper reason… okay, maybe she did want to cast her own green sparks charm at him just to make this even but yeah.
“He really knows how to make his presence known huh.” Raizel uttered as he watched the older boy go on his way to… a birthday party? Emmi? Who? “Who is he talking about?” She asked Meyra. She was already bad at remembering names, much more so when nicknames were used to address them. Guess there was merit in Colin suddenly appearing like that. Meyra seemed to have relaxed a bit and now that she knows they could be family… blood related even… then perhaps she'll feel more at home in Hogwarts, have more people by her side. That made Raizel feel relieved. Meyra won't be alone. With what she was dealing with right now, the older Gryffindor doesn't know if she could stay by her unless she wanted her to get involved with her own problems. She doesn't want that.
“I’m sure they will. They had shown you unconditional love until now, right?” Raizel assured her even though she doesn't know how it’ll go if Meyra’s mother discovers that she snuck into her office and stole a letter. Well, if they didn't want their daughter snooping around, then they should've told her about something important like this. “Looks like you already know what to do. I wish you luck, Mey. Hopefully, things start getting better for you soon.” She gave her step-cousin a light pat on the shoulder, showing a soft smile, the only thing she could muster right now and this time, it was a genuine one, far from the ones she does for show. “It'll be fine.” Raizel took a couple of steps back before turning around. “I better get going as well, still have things to do…” and things to think about. She had put her own thoughts aside earlier because she knew Meyra needed someone at the moment and now that things were alright, it was time for her to let the thoughts back in and deal with her own problems. She gave Meyra one last wave before she started walking, heading wherever her feet might take her now that she was done with her short stop over.
