Seemed like as good of a place as any, the caretaker's office was for the most part abandoned. There was allegedly at some point someone that 'cared' for the castle. He had never met him, the cooking and the cleaning was handled by the house elves as well as some of the castle repairs. Everything was old but somehow in near pristine condition due to the ingenious nature of those self-proclaimed servants.
The house elves have been his savior these past few weeks, ever since Potter's conviction. Helping him find paths less traveled to avoid his classmates. Keeping the rumors quiet. Keeping them safe. He did not know how to thank them, but he was going to find a way.
He had heard about something Cranby 'needed' -- the house elf needed something that was stored in the caretaker's office. Something that they could not reach. Something that they could not find but knew it was hidden away. His mistress' pendant. So lovely and green it held both fire and light. He had no idea what that meant but he could find something shiny and offer his findings to the house elf.
So he did just that, he started low forgetting the part that it was a place that the house elf could not reach. That is was hidden away. He would leave the office in shambles if necessary. He pulled each drawer out and poured out the contents. There was a great deal of contraband in this office, he wished that he brought a pair of gloves for his act of deviance.
He heard footsteps. Quickly he slammed the door closed.

The little Italian was trotting around the school casually, having completed his classes for the day and was going back to the Gryffindor common rooms. He had decided to take the scenic route, for as he heard rumors about the Caretaker’s office and the things one could find there, he was both curious and mischievously interested as to what could be found within those doors. Up to that point, he had been trying to find a time in which nobody, faculty or student, were nearby, and this day, of all days, for some reason or another, seemed to be that golden time. Somehow, Piérre had managed to zoom out of his final class and sprint far enough away form the crowds that he found himself alone in the hall, between the Gryff common room and the mysteriously abandoned Caretaker’s office.

It may have been odd for a few straggling students to spot a green-clad first year rocketing up the stairs from class towards the fifth floor corridors, but for those choice few who knew of Piérre’s tendency to break more than a few school uniform regulations, it would be partially understood that it was the spritely Gryffindor with the funny accent and the oddly piqued ears.
Catching his breath after a short sprint and tightening the strap of his satchel again, Piérre would himself coming around the corner, just in time to hear a harsh slam, as if someone had closed a door.
It had come from the Caretaker’s office.
If he had been older and wiser, and a good deal less curious, Piérre would have known to turn around and not look back, especially with the events that he had heard rumors about: The Giant attack during the Masquerade, the sugar-afflicted child that had been sent to St. Mungo’s, and the fleeting tale about a drowning of a young Ravenclaw girl that had taken place in the Great Lake. He had attended the Gryffindor meetings every Saturday like it was his church, though he was quiet for the most part in many of them. Romeo would have been better suited for such mysteries, and the most that the young Britalian could do was offer some comic relief when the tensions got high or when people began to stress.
That was why he now found himself in front of the slightly ominous door of the Caretaker’s office.
He began by peeking into the keyhole, intrigued as to if he could find anything on the other side. He didn’t see anything of interest, other than the blurry outlines of the room, but unless a freak gust of wind had just blown through, Piérre was pretty sure that there was more than what met his inquisitively glittering emerald eye.
”Hellooooo?” Piérre gently called, knocking on the door quietly; Tap-Tap-Taptap-Tap? ”Is there anyone in there? You need help with stealing anything?” He managed to work his light, young, accented voice into a mischievous lilt. Someone had beaten him to the punch, but perhaps they could work together. After all, birds of a feather, right? ”I’m the only one out here... so.... no pressure?”
Piérre glanced back and forth, making sure that nobody was following him. Hopefully they weren’t. He really didn’t want his little expedition to be cut short.

Perhaps it was a freak stroke of luck. Perhaps it was intuition. Whatever it was, something had told her to check her Marauders Map. Xailah was one, to listen to her gut; her primal instincts, or other worldly intuition- if you so prefer; had kept her alive this long, and they had yet to fail her. So, she would take a peek. Producing a worn, folded, piece of manila parchment from her robe pocket; she would scan the scattering of names. There was nothing out of the ordinary, at first glance, but upon closer inspection she would find a small pair of inky-footprints, wandering where they shouldn't.
The seemingly hand-drawn prints, appeared to be heading to the Caretakers office. It was strange in itself, considering the office had been abandoned- presumably. Maybe it was another hot spot, like the abandoned bathrooms; and she just didn't know it. Leave it be, its probably nothing. She had begun to fold up the map, when another pair of footprints popped up. They appeared to be following the same path as, the previous pair. Normally Xailah, would have left things alone, but something just didn't seem right about what she was witnessing on her map. Come Schrödinger, we have some mice to catch.
The prefect, and her cat, moved swiftly through the halls. The cub knew her way around the school; for she had spent many hours wandering, and familiarizing herself with the shortcuts and secret passageways. A map of the Hogwarts undergrounds had proved to be a good investment, seeing that she often utilized the object- it was being put to good use. She snaked her way through the many twist and turns, the shadows aiding with her flight. The little velvet, drawstring bag, containing a hag doll, bobbed at her side. Despite being in a hurry, she was unsurprisingly quiet. The door to the Caretakers Office could be seen, as she made her way down the hall.
Her person of interest, could be seen standing outside the closed door- but there were two people, right? So where was the other one? A step to the side, and another quick glance at her Map, and she would pinpoint the location of the other pair of footprints. The other person- presumably student, appeared to be inside the office now. She would not approach the boy on the outside of the door; she would simply stand at the end of the hall, gloved hands folded neatly over her abdomen. Schrödinger would sit silently at his mistresses side. The duo listened intently to the seemingly one sided conversation that the Elf-Boy, was having.
Slitted pupils would catch a hazy light, imitating the mirrory sheen of an animal. A quick glance around, and it would be easy to confuse the childs eyes, for those belonging to a creature. The iridescent slit, danced around a pool of vivid molten gold. She was thinking. The gears were turning. Something was not quite right. Xailah was a semi-known thief, and Kleptomaniac. Semi-known, is laying it on a little thick, only one person really knew of her thieving habit, and that was her roommate Aurelia. It wasn't the mention of a heist that was off-putting. It was the implication, that the person inside the office, needed help, with their thieving. Stealing was meant to be a solo hobby.

Through a closed door, the thin sliver of light was interrupted by a presence, a pair of feet. Muffled by the barrier between them, a stranger called out to me strangely.Closed to additional entries.
Does he need any help stealing?
Up front to say the least, my heart leaped into my throat as I pressed my shoulder against the wooden barrier. As if that would make a difference against an inevitable incursion.
"I-I don't know what you're talking about," I lied. I was a mediocre liar at best. "I-I am looking for something," a partial truth. "F-for a friend," I stammered. It was a lie. More, I had to do it or there would be hell to pay.
I looked around the room, desperate. I was cornered, only one way in and only one way out. I never even found the pendant he was after for his mistress. I wondered if the elf even knew what it looked like, it was insinuated that I would know it when I saw it. It did not feel as obvious as I would consider ideal.
But then I saw it, something wrong. It was one of the drawers, it was a shallow drawer that held charcoal pencils. Now withdrawn from the cabinet and on its side with the contents spilled, it was deeper than previously observed.
A false bottom.
A bit cliche, but effective. With my foot I stretched and tried to reach the drawer. I did not want to allow for a premature ingress until I pocketed the coveted item. What pencils that had remained spilled out as the toes of my loafers hooked the side of the drawer and dragged it over. The contents rattled onto the floor and the bottom of the drawer scraped against the stone floor as
I pulled the drawer within reach. I pushed with my index finger the upper left corner, the bottom shifted. My theory was correct.
I peeled the bottom away to reveal a shallow hidden compartment. There were a couple of strange items there, none of which I cared for except something shiny. I was not entirely sure that it was what I was looking for, it reminded me of a scarab beetle. A luminous red, like an opal, a stone I only knew because it was my mother's birthstone. However, rather than a white background in a stone seemingly filled with glitter, it was an orange-red. It was set in an old brass-colored setting. It was tarnished and looked like it needed a good cleaning. I was uncertain, but out of time. I stuffed the pendant into my pocket and nervously addressed the thief outside.
"Heh, could not find anything worth taking," I lied, my voice had a bit of a nervous squeak as it cracked. There was a ton of cool stuff here, I just did not need any of it. "You can have at it man," I pulled my shoulder from the door and let the door open inward as I hesitantly peered out.
Stealth Roll: 52
There was not one, but two people waiting for me in the hall (stealth failed). Looks like Pierre was spinning tales himself as I eyed the two with caution and thought to myself, 'crap.'
Was this a planned beat-down? A shake down of some sort. My mind raced as I considered a path of escape, 'run' I determined was my best option. I would look at the creepy girl, knowing that she is probably the more dangerous of the pair.
I would try to push past Pierre, dash down the hall away from Xailah.

The stammer of the boy within somewhat shocked Piérre. He hadn't meant to come off as intimidating or scary, and hearing the quiver in what sounded to be a young boy's voice like his own caused his heart to freeze in his chest. Was the kid okay? Had he been beaten up? Was he running away, thinking that the tiny Slytherin-masquerading Gryffindor was another potential threat? Piérre knew what it was like to be beaten up on or chased after, and he hated to be painted in the image of being the antagonist like he was now. He knew that it was a lie, what the boy had said. He had uttered enough lies meant to save his skin before than he tended to know what was true and what wasn't. This wasn't a devious or malicious lie, it was a protective lie, a green lie.
Piérre ran his hand on the doorframe for a bit longer, looking at the ground and biting his lip in shame. "Oh, well... okay! Maybe another time! I know this castle pretty well considering... I didn't mean to bother you!"
There was a sound of scrambling within, as if someone was knocking over things in a mad dash to get somewhere and then get back. Piérre couldn't help but let a tiny smile form as he excitedly thought that there could be something of interest in there. He only hoped that he could get something as well. No doubt the locked door served a dual purpose, protection, and secrecy.
After a few more moments, the door opened to reveal a pale boy, reedy boy with spiky black hair, trendy, compared to Piérre's own style of unkempt bedhead. Seeing the kid for the first time made the first time make Piérre smile brightly as he associated face with voice. Perhaps he would run into him again! Maybe they could be friends, or study buddies! He looked to be a fellow Slytherin, dressed in black and green uniform I assume?, but house had never mattered to the young Italian. They were all a family in the end, and had to look out for one another, especially in these dark and somewhat turbulent times.
Piérre's excitement and smile quickly faded and in fact, transformed into a concerned frown when he noticed the boy looking back and forth in a frightened way. Piérre didn't understand, he hadn't meant to be intimidating, why, he was only hardly an inch taller than the lad. If anything, he looked less than intimidating, jaunty, even, and with his pointed ears, he certainly looked the fool. With a panicked move, the boy shoved past Piérre by pushing him in the chest and away from the door.
Piérre gave no resistance except a small huff of confusion. The boy ran past him and down the hall a certain way, and Piérre looked behind him to see if he could spot the source of the boy's fear.
Indeed, he did.
It was a girl, a normal girl in all respects, except for glowing golden irises with a diamond pupil like a cat’s. A second pair of eyes, from a genuine cat were also visible, and despite impossibility, Piérre could have sworn he had met the fat, grey ball of fur before...
But he was able to recognize the girl as the newest Gryffindor prefect. What in the world was she doing here? Perhaps she had a mischievous streak as well? Or perhaps she was just here to catch some troublemakers like himself. Either way, it was a cause for curiosity and slight alarm, and Piérre couldn’t help but stumble back a few steps in surprise of just noticing her. In a beat, he smiled cheerfully. ”Oh, hi Miss Prefect! Fancy seeing you here, you just poof! appeared! Really awesome! Whatcha doing here at this time? Classes just got out!”
Piérre knew full well he should not be there at that time, even if it was after class hours, and he knew that it was very likely that he would end up receiving detention, but it would be better to carry on a pleasant conversation and stand a chance of being let off the hook than just accepting that he had been trespassing or in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But the boy who had run off... the one Piérre suspected of being beaten up was his bigger concern. ”Hey, Miss Prefect, I would love to stay and chat, but I think that the other boy’s a little nervous. I think he got beat up or something... Be right back!”
Piérre began to sprint as fast as his little, yet long, legs could carry him, puffing as he followed the receding Slytherin. ”Hey_ Hey! Are you okay? Did you get beat up? Do you need any help? Please! I just want to help!”
Piérre carries on a brief conversation with Xailah, and then proceeds to run after the boy, begging for him to listen and let Piérre offer help

The thing about Xailah, was that she never really hid. She was always in plain sight, and either you noticed her- or you didn't. The fact that she stood out so badly, somehow made her invisible to the majority of passerby. And those that took notice of the lioness, usually noticed her cat first. Xailah had caught on to this, some time ago; and found the observation to be interesting. So was her invisibility due to her peers being unobservant? Or was it because they simply didn't care to notice her? Whatever the case was, it was giving Xailah the upper hand. Their loss.
Caretaker Boy, would exit the office, pushing past Elf Boy. Xailahs little daggers would follow the boy, as he dashed down the hall. He had made a mistake. He shouldn't have started running. That boy was guilty of something, his flight only confirmed it. He was doing himself no favors. She would have chased him- she wanted to, his fleeing had triggered some of her primitive instincts. Find, chase, capture. But what would she gain from that? An adrenaline rush maybe, but certainly not answers. Luckily for the boy, she was currently craving answers.
For now, she would do nothing to stop the boy from leaving. It wasn't like he had anywhere to run to- except maybe his dorms. With the help of her map, she could easily find him later, so he would be easy to track. And if she really needed to, she could throw him in detention. She would need his name, but its not like matching a name to a students face, was a hard thing to do around here- especially if you had connections. Her eyes would gravitate to a pair of sprightly green ones.
Xailah recognized the boy- well, more like she knew of him. She would get the occasional complaint from her fellow Gryffindors, about another loud Gryffindor, who could not make up his mind what house he wanted to be in. She didn't really care much for the complaints, or the boys antics if she were being honest- he was fine as long as he didn't bother her. But now the boy posed as a issue. A bump in the road. A bump in the road with the attention span of a fruit fly.
Xailah just gave the kid an unimpressed look; his brief ramblings did not help the situation in any sort of way. She couldn't tell if this is how the boy actually was, or if this was the outcome of being spooked. She would say little in response to the Gryffindor parading as a snake. The most she said, was an mildy-exasperated "I doubt it." It could be left for interpretation. She doubted that the lion would return, and she doubted that Caretaker Boy got beat up. Whatever. They both could serve detention with her if it came to that.
She would watch the Gryffindor go the direction the the other boy went, with mild amusement. When he was gone for sure, she would make her way into the Caretakers Office. Schrödinger would sit outside the door and play 'look-out'. It was dark in the office, but it wasn't a problem for the lioness. Her eyes dilated, becoming two large golden rings, as they adjusted to the dark setting. She couldn't possibly imagine what Caretaker Boy would have wanted to take from here. She did a swift scan, of the mess in the room. Someone had definitely been looking for something. There was no doubt that the boy had been tampering with the drawers in the room.
The thin layers of dust had been disturbed, the missing splotches were in the shape of thin fingers. It was recent. This was confirmation that Caretaker Boy was indeed attempting to steal something. But again, what? What in here could possibly be worth stealing? The pencils? the papers? What sane wouldn't steal those? Those things are fun. She would gingerly look through some of the drawers that had not been opened; occasionally thumbing through the papers, with gloved fingers. There was no harm in snooping. The boy probably already found what he was looking for anyways.

I did not trust the voice. I did not know the voice. My heart was bounding in my chest so hard and so loud I could feel it in my head. I hurriedly put away the trinket and prepared myself to run for my life. I was not wearing my Slytherin robes, but rather my house blazer and pants. I as not much of a rebel, not usually. I wanted to blend in, be unnoticed and remains forgotten. With an inward tug, I would see an unfamiliar Slytherin waiting for me. I had never seen him before in my house, not to suggest that I knew everyone in my house by name but faces rarely change. "I-I..."
It was an impulsive decision at best, with an open palm I pushed the stranger's shoulder as hard as I could. It was not very hard, but I was not very strong. It was still enough, a moment of pride perhaps had I not been terrified by the Slytherin youth before me and his mighty gaze. In part guilt, in part simple fear. I knew that stealing was wrong, even if I was sent to take the item. I also knew that my days were numbered here at Hogwarts but my mother would never let me come home, not until I graduated. Too much of an opportunity she would claim, but she did not know what it was like to live knowing. Fearing that they would know too.
I needed to get away, reach a safe space. My house common room was a safe place, locked doors and the dorms even safer. Less people there. Less people that could see me. That could know me. That could hate me.
I was thankful when the Slytherin failed to pursue, he could take the sum of the bounty that was in the Caretaker's Office. The girl that distracted him, even scarier. There was something wrong with her. I had no want for confiscated treasures. Inside the very drawers that Xailah would peruse, she would find items almost any deviant youth would want to steal but they were curiously untouched. Primarily stock items that could be purchased in a Joke Shop for a little bit of coin. A few passed notes, mostly love letters between sweet hearts. Rubber bands. Snap crackers. A bit of fire whiskey. A handful of confiscated, expired potions. Several broken muggle devices, who in the world thought Hogwarts was the place to bring a retro Game Boy?
I would turn the corner, already fatigued. I was no runner, I would rest my hand on the panel of wood and huff. My lungs screamed and burned for air.
I was being pursed again.
He was too far away, I never heard what he said to the goth chick. When he rounded the corner, my body tensed. I knew I needed to run but my feet refused to comply.
”Hey_ Hey! Are you okay? Did you get beat up? Do you need any help? Please! I just want to help!”
I backed away, still breathing hard. I raised my hands as if in a pose of surrender, the blood drained from my face not that it was much different from my normal shade of pasty pale. "I-I'm fine," I stammered. "I-I don't need any help," I looked around desperate as I tried to spy a route of escape. "I-I don't want any trouble man, you can have whatever is in there. Lot's of cool stuff," I was not lying but I was shaking. I brought my forearm to my brow to wipe off a fine mist of sweat. "J-just... leave me alone please."

Fire and Light
@Victor Moore & @Xailah Alptraum
Long legs, a pair of young, yet effective lungs, and the agility of a gazelle was what propelled young Piérre as he attempted to come face to face with the fleeing Slytherin. Though many things in his mind screamed for him to let the kid go about his own business, to just let the subject drop, something lose in the back of his head told him to pursue. Something was off.
Light tapping on the ground as Piérre’s feet almost flew across the stone halls as if they had wings, honed by years of running... and running... and running... and then hiding, and then staying still. There was something in the eye of the boy that was all too familiar to the young Italian; Fear, Uncertainty, and above all, the desire to run, the desire to not be a part of something that could spell out harm to the individual. Something that Piérre had had to learn the hard way, being tackled in the hallway, pushed up and into lockers, cornered in the boy’s stall that he had hidden in, roughly snatched and then dunked in the toilet in question. Gasping for breath... begging for an end of it, unable to escape the pin he had been captured in. Crying, inadvertently giving them what they had wanted all along, as they mocked him, his accent, his country, and his ears, which they yanked, pinched, and flicked.
That was... until Romeo would come charging in like a bull, shoulder down as he collided with the stall and anyone guarding it, pulling each and every bully off of the elder twin and retaliating with punches and kicks, receiving a few in return before with a final few blows, the cowards would run, in search of less protected prey. Then Romeo would sit with his shivering twin, holding him close as he let Piérre cry all his fears out. Sometimes, Romeo would have a bloody nose, other times, a black eye, in some drastic situations, the younger would have scratches across his face, cuts and signs that he had been in confrontations before and was unafraid of confrontations in question.
Maybe that was why Piérre had learned to smile and laugh so much. If he was smiling or laughing, cracking jokes and making others laugh, they wouldn’t question his mood or sense his uncertainty. But above all, above all else, Piérre wanted to make sure others knew that they wouldn’t have to be alone in a fight as big as that. In a fight as widespread of bullying, quiet violence that was often ignored, it could be difficult to be faced head on. Shyness was expected, but more often than not, there was a reason for the shyness or uncertainty.
There was a reason, whether through experiencing something they would rather forget, knowing something they would rather never learned...
Or witnessing something that they wished they could unsee.
There was, of course, the implication of the trial, and the Liberation meetings had still been held once a week, with Piérre having heard rumors that everyone would be able to contribute their information if they had it and wanted to share, but even with Piérre knowing that everyone could be a witness, he pushed it aside, assuming that there was something else at play.
Finally running about a corner at top speed, Piérre screeched to a stop as he saw the young boy nearly shivering with fear, pressed against a wall, hand up in a position of surrender.
Just as Piérre had all those years ago.
But nobody would listen.
"I-I'm fine, I-I don't need any help," The boy stuttered, his cheeks paling even further than his already fair nature. “I-I don't want any trouble man, you can have whatever is in there. Lot's of cool stuff. J-just... leave me alone please."
Up to the last sentence, Piérre had tentatively taken a few steps towards him, meeting him with a similar raising of the hands, palms outwards in similar submission, allowing the kid to see his wand at his belt and know that he was not making any move towards using it. The kid wiped his brow, obviously beyond nervous of the situation, but it was he last sentence that caused Piérre to stop in his tracks.
Just... leave?
There was something in Piérre’s chest that suddenly cracked, something that caused his heart to sink and then shatter into a million pieces. Why was he being thought of as a villain? Why was he being so feared? He never wanted anything more than to help and be the help and light for others to lean on, and now here he was, being the bully to the kid just as he had been bullied long ago. Without realizing it, his eyes began to gloss and water, vision blurring as the words struck him to his core.
Piérre had not been exhausted in the least from time his run, and in fact had been exhilarated because of it, but perhaps it was the high rush of adrenaline that caused the similar raising in emotional awareness as well, the thing which caused the young Gryffindor’s shoulders to slump as he realized when enough was enough.
Shaking his head, he tried to meet the kid’s eyes. ”S_sorry...” Was all he could manage. ”Didn’t mean... I just...” Swallowing a lump in his throat and taking a small breath, Piérre wiped his eyes and smiled weakly. ”I’m sorry, I’ll go... but... if you need anything or if you need to talk to anyone... if you ever feel like you’re in a bad place or need support... You aren’t alone. If you need anyone, if you need help with anything, don’t hesitate to find me.”
He gave a tiny laugh, more of a sob, really. Crying was not an unknown sensation to Piérre, but it was an unpleasant one. A sensation that caused his eyes to go raw, cheeks to flush, and give him a headache that would not fade for at least two hours. But he worst of it was that he would never forget the situation. He wouldn’t and couldn’t forgive himself for any shortcomings of it. In his futile mission to be friends with the world, one failure was equivalent to a million. ”See you ‘round, okay
il commilitone? Italian: Buddy/fellow soldier
With a final nod of affirmation, Piérre put his hands in his pockets and then turned, back to the boy so that he could do what he wished with the situation, and then retreated down the hallway and around the corner, out of sight, a new burden on his mind and in his heart.
Perhaps he could check out the office, though, and see if there really was anything of interest in there. I know you said there was nothing there, but Piérre doesn’t know, so...
What else would he find but the large, grey cat that seemed a little bit familiar to the young Italian Gryffindor. With a smile and his cheeks slowly returning to their normal rosy hue, Piérre sat down, crisscrossed as he observed the grey cat with a new sparkle in his eyes. He liked animals, they always cheered him up.
With a tentative hand, Piérre would tap the ground in front of him with the back of his palm to the feline, a cat’s purr rumbling in the back of his throat, his typical approach to interacting with cats to put them a little more at ease than if he were to plunge right in to touching them. He didn’t really notice the fact that someone was in the office quite yet, but eventually he would consider entering the office and having a gander at the loot within.

That Slytherin who had been snooping in the office, was clearly crazy- he left all the good things behind. Well good things, minus the weird letters. Xailah grimaced as she produced a small slip of paper, faintly pink in hue; from a drawer. Written on it in crude handwriting were some initials, surrounded by a lopsided heart. E.R + P.A.M. Who was ER and why did they like PAM? Unsure of what the letter really meant, the Gryffindor would toss the paper to the side as if it were carrying a disease. That was not the only paper she found, there were tons of other just like it. None of which were worth reading- or pocketing. Just like any young witch, the girl liked gossip, but none of the papers contained anything juicy- wait no, she had found one with a piece of old chewing gum wedged inside, obviously not the juicy she was expecting. Gross.
Once the drawers were rid of the strange letters, the really neat things could be seen. But now the little klepto was being face with the internal struggle of what to take, and what not to take. She obviously wanted to pocket all of the goods, even the stuff she had no need for- scratch that, especially the things she had no need for. But she couldn't. She could only carry so much. To take it all would require multiple trips to, and from the fifth floor. So the lioness began narrowing down her options from what she liked the most, to what she liked the least. The little muggle widgets were the first things to disappear. She nudged the little doll in her pouch to the side, so she could make room for them.
The rubber bands- oddly enough, were the second things to be rescued from the drawers. The Gryffindor Prefect absolutely adored the stretchy little objects, and for no particular reason. She simply liked having them- well, they were also fun to try and hit her sleeping roommate, Aurelia with. So that was a thing. While Xailah was raiding the Caretakers Office, Schrödinger would sit outside. He doing what he called, 'Being a good boy'. Yes, Schrödinger was being a very good boy, by just sitting there- and not alerting his mistress of potential intruders. Perhaps he should have been given the role 'Doorstop', instead of 'Watchdog'.
Schrödinger, being the very good boy that he was, was playing with that Gryffindor boy from earlier. He indeed returned, which was surprising to say the least. Schrödinger remembered the boy. He was the one at the, throw-round-objects-at-humans (dodgeball) game. Yes, he remembered sitting with the boy, as he waited for his own human to return from the game. The boy was nice. Gave him food. Schrödinger liked food. Maybe he had food this time too? He watched the boy tap the floor. The feline did not react to this at first, he was too busy trying to figure out the easiest means of obtaining a snack.
He looked up at the boy, with sleepy copper eyes- he was exercising his power of feline charm, which was something that only cats possessed- obviously. He would humor the boy at first; stretching his neck to sniff the boys hand. Then he would flop over- into the door. Which resulted in a rather loud thud. Well, that didn't go entirely as planned. At this point Xailah had been sitting on a desk, fidgeting with a little electronic device. The sound of the cat colliding with the door made her jump. Did someone throw her cat at the door? Maybe someone was at the door, she wasn't sure.
She sat very still, and tried to listen for any further movement. When she heard none, she began to grow concerned. She hopped down from her spot on the desk, Game Boy in hand. She opened the door just slightly- enough to peek through. Schrödinger was fine, thankfully. But that Elf-Boy was back. If someone walked by, they would see this kid with her cat- and then they all would be in trouble. "Get in here." The lioness hissed. "If sssomeone see's you, you'll get us both caught." She pushed the door open a little further, just enough for the boy to get past her. "I certainly hope you got the name of that boy. He trashed this office." She glanced at her cat. "You too, get in here."

The goth girl was incredibly weird. Not that I knew what she was stealing or that she had an erm... problem. No, I was simply relieved that I was free. The boy, whoever he was looked absolutely terrifying. My bony little arms would have been no match for the brawn of either of them really. My magic, on the other hand, was pretty incredible but that as the sort of thing you used when it was life or death. You don't attack people with magic, you make things better with magic. Well, that was what I believed when left to my naive nature.
My safe place was not here, it was in the Slytherin common room. It was not that I trusted my dorm mates, it was that I understood their nature. Their yearning for more. Their ambition that was as natural as breathing. They were not particularly clever, but neither was I. They were not brash or outgoing, they were not the type to enter head first into a dire circumstance without a plan. They did not pry into who I was and what made me tick. I already knew enough about myself, there was no need to reiterate. It made me feel cold a bit to feel this way, it was a truth that I did not like to consider. I was not always this anxious or isolated. A few years ago I was a social butterfly before I became a recluse. But things happen, people change. The circumstances were different now.
I needed to get out of here.
