Adeline's voice cut sharply through the otherwise peaceful countryside. "Flipendo!" she shouts, slashing her wand towards the stack of jagged rocks that she had so carefully arranged. As the spell collides with it's targets, the stones are sent tumbling down the little ledge behind them with an off-beat pitter patter. A satisfied smile creeps it's way over the young raven's face.
When Adeline first found this little nook in the hillside, it served more as a place to relax and unwind, to enjoy a moment away from the constant chaos unfolding within the castle. Now, as a second year and a duelist, the peaceful patch of soil had evolved alongside her. Side by side with the flowers she had planted the previous spring were her "opponent piles" and stacks of books on the art of the duel. If the campion and primrose could smile proudly at the girl, she was sure they would have.
Adeline's blue eyes shifted to the next stack of rocks before her. She took a moment to strengthen her stance, before speaking clearly "Incendio Duo." A flash of heat erupts from the cherry wood wand as a burst of fire splashes over the rock pile ahead. The flames died quickly, leaving behind a paltry soot stain in their wake. Faded too fast.. Adeline's face screwed into an expression of dissatisfaction as she puzzled over the weak nature of her flames. "Again." She speaks to herself, absent-minded.
The blue-eyed girl drew her wand once more, settling into position. Just as she readied herself to repeat the spell once more, something unexpected shattered the stillness.
Snap! a tattle-tail tree branch from behind her grabbed her attention. Someone was watching. She turned to meet the eyes of the intruder, irritation hidden away behind a mask of nonchalance.
"And you are?" She asks, annoyance seeping through each word.

This was great!
Without a worry on his mind, Percival was stretching his legs after a long session of studying in the library. The fresh air felt good, and so did the idea of exploring the area around the castle. His parents had told him much about it, especially his father. He had gone on countless adventures back when he was still a student, and now Percival hoped to experience some of that as well.
So, when he heard a spell being cast, it drew his attention immediately.
As always, he was immensely curious, so he began to make his way closer to the source, hoping not to disrupt whoever was practicing their spellcasting. When he finally got close enough, he hid behind a tree and carefully looked around its trunk. He spotted the girl, her wand raised and her targets visibly marked by her spellcasting. It was impressive to him, so he lingered, expecting not to get caught if he kept quiet enough.
This idea, however, did not work out so well.
He took one wrong step and his foot landed on a brittle little branch. The snap that followed was so loud that he knew he was busted even before she turned his way. Still, Percival froze in place, and his stomach sank.
When Adeline stared him down, he felt heat creeping up to his neck and ears, and all he wanted to do is hide behind that tree again. But that wasn't an option, sadly. "I'm sorry if I messed up your training. I was just... exploring and heard you practicing." Curious as always, that obviously meant he had to come watch.
He paused, hoping she wouldn't stay mad at him, before he continued, “I'm Percival."

A touch of warmth crept into her voice. "Name's Adeline, but you can just call me Addie, if you want." The Raven dropped her cherry wand to her side and softened her posture, facade slipping. She couldn't help it. "You can relax.." the corners of her lips upturned ever so slightly, soft smile twinkling her eyes. "I don't bite."
Turning suddenly on her heels, Addie's gaze was drawn back towards the row of opponent piles. The Levitation Charm made quick work of returning each of the stones to their place. Once the task was complete, she turned back to Percival and stashed her wand away in her skirt waistband.
Adeline took a shuffle-step to the side and gestured towards the stacks of precariously placed stones.
"Wanna give it a shot?" She beckoned, a glint of challenge lighting up her eyes.

if you do not have any spells that is okay! She can ask him to help her practice (maybe by throwing a stone for her to aim at?) and they can maybe make a promise to come back when percival gets spells? or i swear i would love to buy you a spell if you want for him to use, just pick one from the dueling spells list n tell me how much
however you respond will be great!!

Percival’s stomach dropped the moment she spoke to him. She didn’t sound happy, and for just a second, he imagined himself being turned into one of those stacks of stones she had been blasting earlier. He swallowed hard, his mind scrambling for what to say, but no words came out at first. His eyes shifted from her wand to her face, and he quickly shook his head to try to apologize somehow. “I-I wasn’t trying to spy, I swear,” he managed, even if he tumbled over his words a little.
But then her tone softened, and he stopped panicking. He drew in a deeper breath and let his body relax, especially when she dropped her wand. Never before had a wand looked this scary, so he was very glad to not have it pointed anywhere near him anymore. Then, he finally took a step out from behind the tree, still a tad cautious, but he was already starting to warm up to her, “Hello Addie,” he repeated, testing the name to make sure he wasn't getting tricked or something.
"I'm Percival."
Now that she didn’t seem angry anymore, he actually got the chance to look around. The little piles of rocks were all arranged again with some quick wandword. He had seen a few students practicing spells like that before, but she made it look so easy! And... it reminded him of how much he needed to learn the levitation spell himself. Ever since he had lost his satchel, Percival had been forced to carry his books around. Through an enormous castle, with high towers and winding staircases.
A simple levitation charm would solve so many of his problems.
When she gestured toward the stones and asked if he wanted to give it a try, Percival blinked in surprise before a small smile formed on his face. “Really? You’d let me?” All of a sudden, he sounded very excited.
"I've uh, not learned many spells yet, but I did learn the Green Sparks Charm!" he chirped, knowing it was among the more basic dueling spells. Perfect for this little exercise, right?

Adeline cleared her throat with a small cough and raised her eyebrow. She shifted her shoulder to seem taller. “Green Sparks, hm?” Adeline responded in her very best 'grown-up' voice, kicking a tiny rock about the clearing. She folded her lanky arms across her chest, and started silently swirling her index finger against her sweater sleeve. “A fine choice, I suppose. Harmless, flashy... a good start for mastering the basics of wand work..” Adeline spoke as if she was some sort of master duelist. The boy need not know just how much of a novice she truly was. That would benefit no one here.
She nodded toward the shortest stack of stones, their base still stained with the ashy remnants of her lackluster Incendio. “Alrighty then, Mister Percival. That one. Hit it.” She gestured to the small stack. “Cast it like the spark is an extension of you.”
There was a fully encouraging tone taking over her projected nonchalance at this point.
“Go on then...” she shooed the boy with her hand, her tone casual but eager. “Show me your gorgeous Green Sparks, or I will assume you lied to keep me from casting flames at you.” a sly grin crawled across her face as she challenged the boy, finger still swirling about restlessly.
The clearing fell eerily calm, as if the hillside was holding its breath, awaiting the result of Percival's next move.

Percival straightened up the moment she called him Mister Percival. Something about the way she said it made him feel like this was a proper lesson, and suddenly, he wanted to do well more than anything. His eyes widened slightly as he listened, nodding along as if every word she said was some great secret of dueling.
She totally had him convinced that she was a great duellist already.
Adeline then pointed toward the smallest stack of stones, so he turned to face it like it was a real opponent. There was still a faint trace of ash around it from her own spell, but it did not distract him. He simply adjusted his grip on his wand and drew in a last breath to try and recall his lesson.
Now to cast it like an extension of himself...
He glanced back at her with a quick final nod, then focused. The hillside was completely still, and he could almost feel her waiting behind him. “Alright…” he said softly. "Here it goes." One last breath and he went for it.
“Verdimillious!”
A burst of green light shot from the tip of his wand, scattering in a sharp flare as it struck the small pile of stones before fading into smoke. For a split second after impact, he just stood there, almost surprised it had gone so well. Then his whole face broke into a grin, eyes shining with pride.
He turned toward Adeline, still clutching his wand like it might vanish if he let go. “Did you see that?” he said with quite the proud little grin on his face.

"Did you see that?" He chimed, excitement overflowing. The boy clutched his wand so tightly Adeline feared that it would snap right in two. Of course she had seen it. She was honestly quite impressed. "How could I not?" She laughed, a bit dumbfounded. She decided it best not to mention that the spell he just flung initially took her a dozen tries to produce. Adeline padded towards the stone stack to examine the results of the boy's cast. Thick, heavy soot painted the stones where Adeline's previous Incendio had failed.
She rubbed her finger over the cold surface, smudging a bit of sticky ash off on her fingertips in the process. "You should really consider duelling." Adeline stated bluntly, rubbing her fingers together fervently in an attempt to remove the thick soot from her hands. Admitting defeat, she wiped the remaining stain on her clothes. How charming.
Through the excitement of meeting and teaching Percival, Adeline had hardly noticed the time, or the slipping of the sun. It seemed that their impromptu lesson would be coming to a close. The Ravenclaw girl gestured towards the sunset with a nod of her head. "I'm gonna head back... you should practice your sparks a couple more times." She swung her satchel over her shoulder after removing a pale green wool beanie from within. Pulling the old hat snug over hear ears, she called out to Percival one last time.
"Next time I see you, I hope I'm stood across from you." She smirked ever so slightly before adding the last bit.
"Wand to wand."
