- Early Morning of Sept. 2nd, 2025 | Divination, Hogwarts -

The adrenaline of officially becoming a Hogwarts student, a newly-dubbed Gryffindor, had yet to wane from the day before.

Between both exhilaration and apprehension, Alphonse hardly rested last night. To his relief, the Toussaint boy had a private bedroom in his mother's in-Hogwarts living quarters. It wasn't very big compared to his bedroom in Maudeline, Hogsmeade, or in the Gryffindor dormitories, but it offered the boy some quiet and solace. Griffin Grove or whatever it was titled dormitory wouldn’t have boded well for that kind of brooding surrounding first-day jitters, and the last thing Alphonse desired was to mar Siobhan's evening too.

Time had elapsed from the moment the boy got comfortable in bed, and suddenly it was morning; Alphonse wasn't sure if he had finally surrendered to sleep or dissociated from reality with his herbal devices.

A sweet and savory scent met his nose from beyond his bedroom door, and it drew him like a moth to flame, causing the Gryffindor boy to hurry and dress the part. Breakfast with his maman was a quiet one on his part—offering only a casual nod or an occasional, subdued "yes ma'am" as Sarai recited her spiel regarding Alphonse making a good first impression, and if he remembered his schedules and routes. His doting mother had shown him his way around Hogwarts the evening after Alphonse's Sorting Ceremony, though only half of the routes clung to memory—the classes and offices of the few professors and faculty that were kin.

Mid-munch of his final bite of ipo pain perdu, his ears pricked at the sound of his maman packing a picnic basket on the table behind him.

"Mijo, can you please take this to Desislava on your way out?" Sarai asked.

Her words were dressed up as a request, but Alphonse knew it wasn't one—and he knew better than to protest with his mother. With an assured nod, Alphonse took a final gulp of his juice, washed his hands, and exited from the Herbology office door while lugging the cargo with a steady grip.

It was still early in the morning, and the world fell entirely silent with hardly anyone else in sight. His long legs hurried down corridors and flights of stairs until he was in the North Tower. He trudged towards the Divination classroom while carrying his mother's gift for the woman, and approached the door that was still shut with a err of hesitation.

Offering only a swift knock, Alphonse sighed while loitering outside his "aunt's" classroom.

Desislava had been editing one of her manuscripts when the one distinct knock of an unsuspecting visitor drew her from the gaze of the words on her page. Looking up with curiosity she let out a soft 'come in' before returning to the underlined words with red ink. The self editing quill she typically used was missing, likely packed away somewhere in a box she had yet to unpack from the summer, and thus required her full attention.

When the door opened, she looked up and saw the distinct signs of her dear friend in the shape of her son. Alphonse Toussaint. Over the summer, she had been in constant communication with Sarai as the summer was during her last couple months of pregnancy before her twin girls made their entrance, and it had been let out that Alphonse would be joining the school as a student due to his... ah... disruptive behavior at both his previous institutions.

"Hello Alphonse, do come in." Desislava said kindly as she took the basket that the boy was holding and set it on her desk. There was a very nice bottle of vodka that she could see behind the wrapping of the gift basket. Sarai was truly too kind to offer her such delicacies encased in a basket in exchange for helping keep her son out of trouble.

That bottle of vodka might be an apology now that Desi thought about it...

Truthfully, she wasn't fully aware of all the details but she did know that Sarai was greatly concerned about her son's wellbeing and just wanted him to be happy and safe at school.

"I hope the climb wasn't too much for you. I know many of your classmates dread making the hike to my tower. Would you believe that once upon a time- they had to climb through a trap door in the floor? Thank goodness you all don't need to do that." Desislava joked softly as she unpacked the items from the basket. An island-like smell graced her senses as she pulled the coocnut bread out.

"Your mother makes the best baked goods. I am so lucky that she is gracious enough to share with others. How is your mother feeling? Desislava asked as she put the flowers given to her in a vase. Highland flowers, but flowers nonetheless. The bread was looking far too delicious to pass up and she went to her lunch bag to fish out the set of silverware she had packed for her own lunch.

"So Alphonse. Are you excited to start school here at Hogwarts? I heard from your mother that you are a wonderful Quidditch player. Will you try to join the team? Desislava asked as she took a bite of the delicious snack that was here for her. She was taken aback by the flavor profile and the care that Sarai had put into the dish.

Desislava hoped that her questioning wasn't something that was too invasive to the boy. After all she questioned many of her students in ana attempt to understand them better and make sure that theyw ere doing okay. As a transfer-student herself back in the day, she knew how difficult it was to acclimate and make new friends. If anything, her prying was simply to see if there was anything she could do for him and for Sarai in turn.

Desislava took a seat back in her desk chair and started to look over her work again as she listened to Alphonse speak to her.
