Cat's Grace || Blindvision || Impartial--

Ruby received a single, considerate nod from the metamorph. While a post-game meetup was the hope, there was naught either woman could do if the track had other cards to deal them. Broom Racing had garnered its reputation as a bloodsport for a reason. Xailah may have spoken in jest about the intentions of her teammates, but her words did have merit. Still, aggression from racers was only a fraction of the entire racing scheme. This was no simple cruise around the Quidditch pitch; one wrong move could cost a racer their bones, or even their flying career altogether.

It was the risk that made it exciting, so Xailah claimed. And maybe (a very big maybe), that made Barrow's growing concern about his wife's deep involvement in the sport, much more than a little valid.

Weems' spell worked a charm (pun not intended), cushioning Xailah from any serious damage she would have otherwise sustained from bulleting through the well-woven thicket barring a section of the track. Although, she did find herself feeling rather nauseous after being bounced from tree limb to tree limb; a contribution, perhaps, to yet another spell gone off target. She swallowed hard, attempting to clear her head and prepare for the next obstacle without losing her lunch- which was a task that was quickly proving to be an obstacle of its own.

Howard tried his best to manage the giant flying tree that he had been lent by Serena. It felt clunky and was nothing like the Silver Arrow he had green accustomed to over the years, but soon it began to feel better. He was a damn good flyer in his sporting day and it was all starting to come back to him. Howard had bounced off a few trees which was surely going to need some bruise removal paste later, but for the most part he was handling the course pretty well.

Looking around it was clear that he was ahead of most of the pack. Koko had gone barreling off ahead of him like a bat out of hell, so he would need to focus and stay locked in if he wanted to gain ground on her. The trees proved a it of a challenge, but the fog didn't prove difficult at all. His crimson eyes were those of a nocturnal predator. The shadows were his ally and seeing in the dark came with ease. Damn the wide broom though when he was faced with a narrow passage. Howard laid forward on the tree and made himself skinny, but still his elbow crashed into the barrier on his way through. Why the hell did he sign up for this again? But the answer came when he burst through the flames of the next obstacle and saw that Koko was just ahead.

The adrenaline coursed through him as he saw her snatched up by the giant squid. He wasn't too far behind and she would have to deal with that monster. There was still a chance and the thrill of winning propelled him forward. "Let's go!!" Howard bellowed as he prepared for another burst of speed.

One of the most frustrating things about this whole thing was that she could not speak. The Serena Towers going a whole five minutes without once speaking?! That was crazy. At best, she could grunt and that just was not the same thing. Even when she was alone, she could literally be heard talking to her pet rat - or perhaps herself. So this whole thing was not fun and she was looking forward to quickly getting it healed up soon.

For now though, she glanced over to see her friend and wanted to grin (if her jaw would allow for that). He had teased her for the Pine Chopper that she had handed to him but he was doing well. In truth, the Pine Chopper held a very special place in her heart. It was one of her favourite brooms for Broom Racing. It was sturdier than other brooms and really, it just seemed so funny for such a small person to be flying around on a literal tree! She could not only imagine how ridiculously small she looked in comparison and it made her happy.

She looked down at the broom she was currently using - her first broom. Howard had mentioned having to sell his beloved broom for money and really, perhaps she ought to have too but she just could not. Her brooms were literally all she had to her name. Well them and a few bits of handmade armour that weren't worth much. She had suffered horrible roommates and a very tiny room that was supposedly meant to be enough for a person to live in for the last year, and worked far more hours than what she ought to have done but the idea of selling her brooms would be soulcrushing. She felt for him.

Serena grunted as she bonked into the passageway and groaned as she had to deal with extreme heat but somehow, she was surviving. It would be over soon - perhaps by the other team, perhaps by them, who knew? Not her but she was ready to get her ability to curse out loud back.

The Arjan Oberoi was not one to attack weaklings, but he had spotted a girl on the opposing team who seemed to be a pain. She seemed to be cheating - throwing people! So, he opted to throw a rock at her. It ended up being worth it. In fact, it had landed even better than he had anticipated it doing. Should he feel bad for her? Perhaps. She did seem to be falling a long way...

He quickly flew through a passageway whilst fashioning this projectile together and managing to throw it before heading into the woods. For some bizarre reason, one of the trees had the absolute audacity of scratching his arm whilst he was busy doing this! He had no idea which one or when it happened but he felt something - like a branch - hit into him. It left a scratch mark on his beautiful bicep and a trickle of blood came out. Arjan grumbled. His perfect skin was being ruined by this stupid race! How dare! If he knew which tree it was, he would burn it down to the ground for its audacity! Unfortunately, it could literally have been any tree in the entire forest.

Despite being livid, he kept his head down and flew straight through the fog - likely to everyone's surprise - and managed to get out to the other side. All was well... except now, he needed to find another stick or rock or something to throw. Or perhaps... yes, this would be a good time to whip out his handy dandy wand, right? He could literally target two people at the same time!

Lavinia was flying as fast as she could to get herself in the race. Arriving late was the worst thing she could’ve done for her team’s chances in the race. It was always better to have more people to have more opportunities and actions in broom racing. Speeding her way through the course, Lavinia was surprised by how many people she flew past, maybe she didn’t arrive as late as she thought to be out of the race. She flew past a Whomping Willow, narrow passage, which she somehow hit, trees, and fog! It was quick flight where she just relied on her compass the whole time to get through.

There was a slight scrape on Lavinia’s shoulder where she hit the passageway, but it was not significant enough to even bother her. Adrenaline was extremely high now as she struggled to even catch her breath after running, flooing, and flying for at least the past half hour. It didn’t seem sustainable to keep going, but she was now stuck in this game and too committed to helping her team in any way. Realistically, all Lavinia needed to do was to fly a ton to put herself in a position to help out the leaders, or she could work to take out the mid runners and the people currently around her. Regardless, Lavinia was now in the game and ready to win it!

Her broom had not gone very far, but its momentum as they were separated had carried it far enough at least to cost her precious moments in the race, which felt especially bad when she watched Lavinia arrive late and yet speed right past her with ease. Maybe she shouldn't feel so bad, hadn't Lavinia gone on to professional Quidditch? Either way, running to her broom was far slower than even the slowest broom flight through this course, but finally she had it, grabbing on before someone could decide to knock it farther away.

And in that time, chaos unfolded around her. There was still a surprising concentration of them around the starting line--mostly from her team, unfortunately--and they seemed set on disrupting each other as much as possible. Two more racers had joined her on the ground, one of them her teammate Cyrus, and... make that three, actually, Ami plummeting sharply with the cracking impact of some sort of projectile. Bridget watched in mild horror as the very solid-looking Quidditch player went down so quickly, falling the extra height Bridget had raised her to. Cyrus voiced some approximation of her thoughts, though she wasn't sure she'd ever heard the phrase good golly goose and wouldn't have used it herself. Still, she nodded appreciately at his encouragement as she remounted her broom. She certainly hoped she didn't end up right back on the ground.

Samuel hadn't quite enjoyed sports as much in a while as he had been today, snatching away the broom earlier was what Samuel guessed most would consider a fun action. To some extent, he did so too.

There was quite some time left before the game would be over, but the opponent team seemed quite eager to finish things on the field as Koko went off towards the far end of the broom track. The ex slytherin captain was as fast as ever, and when Sam was in this train of thoughts, the man felt his broom pulled right from under him as the two went down to the ground.

Samuel rose to his feet, this aspect of the sport was perhaps his least favourite, he under no assumption had wanted to get his suit all dirty today and yet as fate would have it, here he was right in the middle of action, with all the chances in the world for his suit to be sullied.

Thankfully, the young Professor wasn't too far up the sky and the ground easily broke his fall, had he chosen to ascended, he might have worse sufferings to take home.

Galton Lansdale would not learn the muggle-slag meaning of lit today. It was very possible that he would never learn the meaning of it. He was too busy being spun to hear Cyrus' answer in a clear fashion. While he had some level of experience operating while disoriented, being twirled around like a top was pushing it. He wasn't quite sure how strong Ami must have been, but from the speed at which he had exited her orbit, he could only imagine the answer was in the realm of "very" or maybe even "incredibly".

Getting the mild nausea under control, there was not much Galton needed to focus on other than flying as fast as he possibly could. Given their height it was quite an easy traversal. An occasional peak down (as often as his nerves would allow) would reveal very little. Both because he was extremely high up, but also because of his fashion choice. Robes. Galton was always wearing some type of robe. There had not been too much thought into what flying in a robe would be like, but breezy would be an understatement. Every time he tried to peer down, all he really saw was the flapping of loose fabric that he prayed stayed in place.

Before he knew it, and before his robe could reveal anything, the ascension charm began to wear off. Returning to the track he found himself besides one Serena Towers. "Oh hello. Mind if I squeeze in here? He'd ask her.

Ami hadn’t even noticed whatever it was that had taken her down coming at her. Maybe that was the curse of locking in— the inability to see the bigger picture and the circumstances in which she had placed herself. Apparently, slinging her teammates as far forward as she could had made her a much bigger target than she had originally would’ve predicted. Was she really so big and strong and intimidating that the other team felt she needed to be taken out of the equation entirely as quickly as possible? As her body fell through the air, her consciousness quickly fleeting in her last moments awake, she wondered briefly if she should actually inform her coach that she had once again blacked out outside of match. Sure, magical healthcare was generally more advanced than standard concussion protocol, but she was still sustaining brain damage time and time again. Maybe this was something she should keep to herself, at least for the foreseeable future.

The other thought, of course, was far more sinister. Her revenge would have the fury of the nine hells fueling it and the magnitude of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. She would simply have to kill whoever the hell had done this to her. Or at least severely injure as payback.

After failing to impact Procoppio with her spell, Ruby was determined to succeed this time. She glanced behind her, evaluating the suitability of the potential targets. Her gaze settled on one of the boys on the opposite team, hovering over the starting line, up where Procoppio was. She saw him cast the Revulsion Jinx in the direction of Professor Sauber—well, not her professor anymore, nor had he been for very long to begin with, barely a couple of months, in fact—and decided that she would be doing the same thing to him. With practised precision, she cast, and watched with mild satisfaction as the boy fell, his broom pulled out from under him.

She was lucky enough to be able to watch Procoppio’s fall, too. It looked significantly more painful, though, and the girl did not get up afterwards. Serves her right. The corner of her mouth twitched upwards in an instinctual little smirk, and her general contentment with how this round had turned out carried her onwards. She dodged the branches of the Whomping Willow once more, easily slipping past and continuing on her way. Clearing the passage up ahead was not as easy for her, and she bumped into something. It was just a scratch at most, not any major issue. She wasn’t used to broom racing—it made sense that she would have a few minor stumbles like this. No big deal.
