It's most likely because she spends so much time on a single part of a subject and I try to get a headstart on the work she assigns but apparently that's also not allowed till she's finished speaking. Yeah your teachers probably just want you to pay attention to them so youโre not wasting their time. However, I now deal with super smart Professors, so it just seems impolite to not listen to them.

Ugh, that sounds absolutely awful, and it's the dumbest thing because you should be allowed to start the work if you understand it.
