In his footsteps
With the last lecture of class all wrapped up the small student body began moving in unison. Young Witches and Wizards all gathered their things and slowly emptied the room. Vikka had walked out with Sola. Once they were free in the corridor she turned to the silent Slytherin and sighed “if you hadn’t touched my shoulder I’m afraid I would have made a very awkward situation arise”
She said with a half grin.
Together they took a sea at a stone bench for just a moment “do you know that boy? He seems a bit odd and he didn’t even get in trouble for being late!” she pointed out. She wanted to wait for him to leave the class but he had stayed behind for a moment. It was fine, Vikka had a good ten minutes before she had to get to Potions class.
The hustle and bustle of the large corridor slowly began to thin out. Torches flickered endlessly against the cold stone walls. Stone statues of knights along with paintings of multiple different Witches and Wizards decorated along the walls. Few spider webs hung from the ceiling giving the place a slightly spooky look. The castle was pretty old after all, why not let all the creepy crawlers make their home here?

Sola was surprised she managed to stay beside the Hufflepuff girl in the sea of students. Once they were out in the hall, the girl thanked her. "No problem," she replied, a little sheepishly.
Sola shook her head at her next question. "No," she said. "I am not too familiar with him. I have seen him in the common rooms, but I do not know which dorm he is in..." she didn't really know what the boy's dorms were named, after all. She was in the one named after Pansy Parkinson, as the one named after Narcissa Malfoy had been too lavishly intimidating.
"I think he is from Ireland - he definitely sounds like it. His name is something like... Rood... no, that doesn't sound right." She shook her head. He's not always super quiet, but I've never really spoken to him." She thought for a moment, and then she remembered something. "I... I never really caught your name," she said.
Honestly, she'd been wondering since the beginning of class, but the girl had never replied when she asked. All she really knew about her was that she was Hufflepuff, First Year, and was much more confident than Sola was.

In his footsteps
When the class was over, Seth watched how the two girls leaved the classroom. He hesitated for a few minutes but then he decided to follow them.
"Hey!", Seth shouted but the girls did not hear him. He sighted, already thinking about just going to the next class. But do you want it to be like that for ever?, Seth asked himself. You are most of the time alone and you don't like it. In the past, it was okay. But now you have the chance to change it. Don't be afraid and just walk to them. Seth hesitated again. But then he took a deep breath and walked to the girls. He heard how the Slytherin tried to rembember his last name and smiled. Reed is not a difficult name, he thought.
As Seth arrived by the two girls, he still still smiled softly. He did not want to interrupt the Slytherin, so he waited until she finished.
"Hey", he said finally, "I saw you two in class and thought... Uhm..." Yeah. What did he thought? This was an weird situation, probably not only for him. He sighted and forced himself to smile. "I heard you two speaking about my name", he said, "I am Seth Reed."

Seth had approached them just as Vikka just as she was about to introduce herself. He was much taller than the girls and much more nervous it seemed. The words jumbled from his mouth until he finally told them his name. Vikka happily took his hand and shook it “I’m Vikka Rieresgaard” she chirped. She then took Solas had and gave it s light shake as well “Sorry I can get a bit ahead of myself I guess” she mentioned with a small chuckle. “And about your name, I was asking her if she knew you because I was just curious” she added to her slight embarrassment.
Vikka really did tend to get ahead of herself not really giving the party included time to reject her. In this case she hoped these two Slytherin would not push her aside due to her being a proud Hufflepuff. She didn’t agree with all of the houses rivalries, unless it came to Quidditch.
Patiently she awaited the Slytherin girl to give a response. The next class would start soon and she was hoping one or both of these two had Transfigurations class along with her. Her gaze jumped back and forth from Seth to Sola.

Sola looked sheepish when the boy told them his name. She was never good with names... or faces. She probably shouldn't have assumed. Now she just felt embarrassed. Her cheeks turned red.
Sola nodded at the girl's name. Vikka... didn't quite sound British, but she couldn't place where else it might be from. "Sorry," she apologized to the boy, Reed. She would have to remember that name. She hesitantly held out a hand. "I'm Sola Haze," she said. "I stay in the Parkinson Dorm, what about you?" This had to be the most sociable she'd been all year. She was quite impressed with herself.
The Parkinson dorm was cozy, with boards covered in messages. Apparently it was for leader-types, which she was not, but she saw nothing quite appealing about the Dorea Dorm, and the Dorm of Narcissa was too intimidating, like walking into a place for the rich. She'd also been told the girls there tended to be a bit meaner to Muggleborns, and while she was only Halfblood, having a Squib mother did not help. She was constantly worried someone would know, but no one had brought it up yet. She knew her mom's family had high standing among Purebloods, but they would never admit they had a Squib.

Seth raised his eyebrows and looked to his left as Sola asked him in which dorm he stayed. He was ashamed that he forgot the name of his Dorm. In fact, he forgot easily names. Immediately, Seth reminded that his mother would be ashamed, probably angry at him, too. It was hard for Seth to forgot his family, although he did not miss them. All the years his mother had forced him to learn many things by heart, he had never forgot anything. Now that he finally was in Hogwarts, he forgot such important hings.
"Uhm...", Seth stammered, "I... I forgot the name." He did not not wanted to look up because he was afraid that the others would laught at him. So he cought slightly and run a hand through his blonde, wavy hair. "Sorry", he said, "Everything is new and... I don't know, I forget these things easily." Finally, Seth looked up and smiled but if anybody would look into his eyes, they could see the sorrows. Anyways, Seth tried to chance the theme and put his hands into his pockets.
"What's your next class?", Seth asked and hoped he did not have to go alone to the Transfigurations class.

Watching Seth fiddle around and stumble on his words told Vikka that he was shy, so was Sola. This was odd behavior for a couple of Slytherin indeed but Vikka didn’t mind. She was outgoing enough for all three of them. Looking to Seth she smiled “I’m headed to Transfiguration class, what about you guys?” she asked now looking to Sola.
Perhaps is was a good thing Vikka found these two, it must be tough being in the Slytherin house and being shy like this. With all the harsh judgment and all. She decided she would stick with these two until they grew sick of her.
With that in mind she waited for there answer.
Back home she was always off on her own. She used to play with her brother all the time but he left some time ago after he finished his time at Hogwarts. It was his dream to travel the world and go on adventures to learn new things both Muggle and Magic. With his leave she had no one. Her parents never let her socialize with the muggle for fear she would slip and use her powers by accident. Instead they kept her busy with lessons, chores, and hikes around their 200 acre farm land.

Sola would have to ask him later, probably after school. She was curious. She had heard there was a Dormitory of Merlin and Phineas N. Black. She didn't know what they looked like and she likely never would thanks to the Glisseo charm on the stairs that she had read about in Hogwarts: A History.
Honestly, she was disappointed. She had always wanted to visit Hogwarts, but she could never look into the other Common Rooms because it was against the rules. Why couldn't you invite a friend from another House into your Common Room? She could ask a Prefect or their head of House, Jensen, but she was much too shy to do that. Maybe she could get this boy to do it for her, but he seemed shy as well.
"I have Transfiguration, too," she said. How coincidental. She had been told it was mostly theory at first coupled with some more or less useless spells like turning animals into things like goblets and matchboxes and pin cushions. Nothing too fun, but her dad had told her it was worthwhile. She would eventually be learning more interesting spells like conjurations. Of course, most of them seemed more like party tricks, but she would need them for her NEWTs.

Seth smiled and was relieved that the girls spoke with him. He liked and enjoyed their presence and listened to them.
"Well, I have Transfiguration, too", Seth said with a big smile. Everbody could see how relieved and happy he was that he had not to go alone to his next class. He was curious what Transiguration exactly was and so he asked: "Does anybody of you know what we will do in the Transfiguration class? I heard some rumours about it but I'm not sure if they are right or wrong." Seth smiled a bit shy but still friendly. Mentally, he hoped that his question was not ridicolous or something like that. In the past he had heard of the Transfiguration Class, but in the last few days he had forget many things. It's because there are so many new things, Seth thought, otherwise I would never forget such things. Still, Seth was ashamed that the did not knew the name of his Dorm.
Seth stifled the feeling of being a bad son and student and tried to concentrate again. But he could not forget the angry face of his mother, how furious she would look if she knew what Seth had forgot and what he did at the moment. He was speaking to nearly strangers and if that was not enough, he was speaking to a Hufflepuff!
She is not here and she can not stop you, Seth thought immediately, for me, it's not important if I speak with a Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Slytherin. So cam down and enjoy their company.

Vikka smiled “well let’s get on it then! I hear the professor is not keen on students being tardy” she mentioned. As they walked to class together Vikka felt accomplished. She was off to a good start and it got better with each new friend she made. “I’m sure our first day in class will be the same as the others. Introduction, summary of the class, and some scolding I suppose” she giggled as she rambled on. Sola to her left and Seth to her right.
The got looks from a select few Slytherin who disapproved of their house being associated with a Hufflepuff. Vikka didn’t care. Instead she shot them a smile as well just to establish her presence. Once they finally reached Transfigurations class Vikka stopped and turned to her friends. “Shall we all sit together then?” she asked looking to the both of them. After this class was lunch time and the eager Hufflepuff was just itching to sit with these guys and get to know them better.
Students entered the class one by one. Lucky enough there was 3-4 students per table. Seats started filling up. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and a few more from her own house and that of her new friends. It was a pretty diverse set up so far.
