Matisse looked around the train car. There was a sort of passageway area down the center of the car, and on either side were various compartments that looked as if they were large enough for about four to six students each depending on the size of the students. She saw one compartment crammed with kids that seemed about her age. They must have known each other before, at least that was what she assumed based on the animated conversation taking place. She couldn't see all their faces so couldn't quite catch everything they were saying, but the excitement and easy camaraderie was obvious.

"We should find somewhere to sit," she said as she turned back towards Jaxon. She hoped he would want to sit with her. They were friends now, right? She felt like they were, even if they didn't know each other very well, and she didn't really want to sit alone. "This train is really cool. I've been on a couple since moving to England but none of them were this nice. This is super fancy."

She walked down the aisle, peering into various compartments as subtly as she could while she tried to find somewhere to sit. Then she had a thought and whirled back around to face Jaxon.

"Wait, I didn't even ask! Do you have people you planned to sit with already? I didn't even think, but you're from a wizard family so if you know people you want to sit with already we can find them."

Jaxon stood in the train car, looking up and down it, this is the way to Hogwarts, the famed school for witchcraft and wizardry, so much rich history, surely they'll have so many ancient artifacts, so many items to research, to look at, he stood there day dreaming for a few seconds before shaking his head, trying to keep his focus on what's happening now, and his new friend. He follows her down the train car, looking at the various filled compartments with all different kind of students, he looks to Matisse, nodding in agreement, maybe somewhere quiet would be nice, his parents told him about a trolley cart full of sweets, it made him a tad hungry that is.

As they walk down the aisle for a place to sit, he sees Matisse stop in her tracks, he looks at her in confusion for a second until she turned around to face him, he shakes his head at her question "Oh um... no, I don't actually have... any friends really... I've only met a few kids my age and they... aren't exactly fun to be around..." He wonders if he should tell her about how wizard families work, and the views many may have, it might help her prepare for the potential interactions she may have, but he'll wait until they're settled into a compartment, which they seem to be reaching a empty one very soon.

"You mentioned moving here?... Where are you from?" He asks her, though was probably a bit of a silly question, he doesn't know many places other than the UK, he remembers hearing about some European countries from his parents, and another from far overseas, though he couldn't exactly quite recall it.

Matisse blinked with surprise at his declaration of not having any friends. That seemed unlikely to her, he seemed like a nice person and she couldn't understand how someone like him could not have any friends. Although maybe his parents liked people who were problematic? She wasn't really sure how things worked exactly within the wizarding world. Maybe she should have looked for books about wizard culture. Were there even books on that kind of thing? She wasn't really sure.

"I was born in the United States and lived there until I was eight," she said. "My family moved here three years ago. I like it much better here though honestly, although I do miss some of the food from the states." She grinned and dug her hand into a pocket and pulled out a few packets of gushers. "My grandparents send packages every now and then with snacks and candy and stuff in them. Do you want to try these? They're not very healthy but I like them. They're called gushers and they have gooey stuff inside them. I don't see them very often here but my grandma sends these giant packs over she gets from the warehouse stores."

She liked to keep snacks close by just in case she got hungry.

Jaxon thought nothing much of not having friends, it just how he mostly lived, how he managed, what can you do after all when everyone around you aren't the best of people, and you can only sometimes tolerate if you absolutely have to, but it didn't bother him, it's quiet, even if lonely and sometimes sad. Listening to Matisse, he hears the countried United States, he thinks he heard about that before, his parents went there once on a small trip, they seemed to enjoy it, though did complain about the wizards there, thought their terminology was weird, Jaxon lost interest in their trip after that. Jaxon and Matisse settle into a empty compartment finally, they can now relax and sit down, it's going to be a pretty long trip, they're going very far North of the UK after all, so they better settle in for the ride.

"Is it.. a nice country?.. The United States?" Jaxon asked curiously, though her family did move to England, so maybe it wasn't so good, or they just wanted a change in their life, though isn't moving countries a bit of a big effort? Then he was lured in by the promise of snacks, Gushers, they sounded weird at first to Jaxon, but they sounded very sweet, and he does like sweet things, he couldn't turn down such a amazing oppurtunity, foreign food, he gives a small nod, gently taking a gusher. "Thank you.." He says, opening a packet then taking a gusher, and eats it, he bites into and feels the very sweet gooey inside, his eyes lit up, they are absolutely delicious, probably one of the best sweets he has ever had, where have these been all his life. "They're really delicious.." He tells her, eating some more, he was a slow eater, they'll last him a decent small bit.

"Yeah I mean the country isn't bad or anything. I have good memories of it. I just prefer here," Matisse said with a shrug. "My parents are happier working here too. They're both university professors and they seem like they like their jobs a lot more here. Dad loves being closer to so many museums and art history places, he teaches art history. And Mom has gotten to join some research teams she wouldn't have been able to if she was still working in the states so she's happy with that."

She sat back and shifted a bit in her seat until she'd found the most comfortable position, then slumped down a bit. She'd read in some of the books about where Hogwarts was sort of, and assumed they'd probably be on the train for at least a couple hours. She reached into the pocket of her robes and pulled out the Nintendo switch her parents had got for her birthday last year.

"Have you ever played video games?" She asked Jaxon as she flashed the device at him. She had no idea what wizards might have access to and what they wouldn't, and wasn't fully certain how integrated with regular people they were. Did they have video games? Was that a thing? "I know it probably won't work at Hogwarts, the healers told me electronics don't really work at Hogwarts which is why I had to get my cochlear implants removed and replaced with these," she pointed to the small hearing devices she wore over both ears. "But I figured for the train ride at least it might be a good way to pass the time."

Jaxon nodded along as he listens to her, it was pretty interesting learning about another country, maybe they have their own array of magical artifacts that are different to ones in the United Kingdom, he would love to travel to find this out, maybe find magical artifacts that were lost to time if possible, that would be the dream. He watches as Matisse pulled out a small device, he looks at it curiously, it was obvious from his facial expression that he had absolutely no clue what this thing was, but he was definitely interested in it that's for sure.

"Uh, no... never played them, what are they?... Is that the video game?.." He asks her, pointing to whatever it is that is in her hand, he almost couldn't help but ask if the thing in her hand was a magical artifact or something, but he quickly concluded that, considering she is from a muggle family and only ever dealt in muggle stuff, that there is no way at all that she has a magical artifact, at least not at her age, and as a student, what kind of kid would just have a magical artifact in their pocket, Jaxon would if he could, but sadly he does not, not yet that is.

Matisse laughed. "This is technically a device used to play the video games, you have to put the games on it. Here I'll show you..." Her voice trailed off as she pressed the on button and the device made a funny little noise, then failed to turn on. She frowned. She was certain she'd charged it before leaving.

She brought it closer and fiddled with it, attempting to get it to start up, attempting to get it to do anything really, but it stubbornly remained functionless. She slumped back in her seat a bit. "Well um. It's not working. But um. If it was working, this part here is the screen and you'd be able to see the visuals of the game, kind of like watching a movie? And um...you have a character that you play usually and these little parts would make your character move around and do stuff? Kind of like uh...a...a puppet I guess?"

She had no idea how to explain video games exactly without showing how they worked, but it seemed like the magical interference started much earlier than she had expected. She'd hoped that maybe just the school grounds would impact electronics but...clearly not. Was magic always incompatible with electronics? She'd seen other students with watches but those could all be mechanical ones now that she thought about it. The train itself...she wasn't really certain if that counted either, depending on how old it was it could also be entirely mechanical without electronics.

"This...this is fine. I mean there's magic here I'm sure you have lots of fun ways to pass the time right? Um...magical...videos? Or um...magical comics? Is that a thing?"

Jaxon watches and listens to Matisse, a device to play video games, he did wonder what videos game were, they sounded fun, games are well, fun after all, who doesn't love games, you got to be quite unique to not like games, he watches her try to turn it on, but fail, she keeps trying, Jaxon then realised, it's a muggle device, something to do with those electronic stuff muggles learned to deal with, he learned about that magical areas disrupt these type of things, he frowns as he watches her try to get it to work, he felt quite bad for her.

"Uh.. Matisse... I think its not working because its... a muggle device.. something non magical folks made.." He explains to her, he didn't quite understand himself, he never seen muggle devices before so he was never able to really know for sure if that was true, or how it worked, he listens to her explanation on how it works, he frowns a bit, now he felt really bad, it must've been something that was fun for her, and now she can't use it, she's going to have to get used to the wizarding world.

"Um... we have chocolate frogs... with cards about famous wizards... we have sweets that do all sorts of stuff... I'm sure you wouldn't have encountered them before... while living as a muggle.." He suggests options, his parents told him about a trolley lady before so maybe they can get some sweets from there

"Magic...sweets?" Matisse watched him talk about it and became very curious. She had a bit of money her parents had sent with her to buy some fun things, but she wasn't sure how much magic sweets might cost. "If they're magic, does that mean they're very expensive? I still don't fully understand the conversion rates between regular money and magic money, and I assume sweets with magic would be more expensive than regular ones?"

She pulled out her purse. It was shaped like a small backpack with with a chibi anime style cat on it and little broomstick decorations. Then she counted out the coins inside and showed them to him. "Would this be enough to get something? Do they sell them somewhere on the train?"

She carefully put her Nintendo away. It was rather disappointing that it wouldn't work already, not even for the train ride that she assumed would take hours. But magical candy sounded like it could be a fun distraction, a good way to pass the time. Maybe they could try some of them together?

"So what about chocolate shaped like frogs is so magical anyways? I mean I've seen chocolate shaped into all kinds of things. Boats, watches, life size cartoon characters..." she listed off various chocolate sculptures that she'd seen in videos before. Some of them got super intricate and she thought that was really cool. "Does it just taste better or something? Because of the magic?"

Jaxon thought about her question, would it be expensive to muggles? He tries to think about it logically, the magical sweets are commonplace in the wizarding world, it's not like they're rare, or hard to come by, magic is their way of life, it's in everything they do in their life, would something so common cost so much? Along with that, coming from a decently wealthy family, what would be cheap to him may not be for every wizard, all he could really do was shrug as a answer.

"I'm not... really sure how it compares to muggle money... and sweets... pure blood wizards almost never interact with the muggle world..." He tells her, explaining why he has no clue to her question, he would love to see the muggle world, she the awe in the mundane non magical world, no chocolate frogs that leap around, sweets that burn holes in the tongue, no moving pictures in newspapers, or living potraits, it must be both so boring yet so interesting. "We can buy sweets and other snacks... my mother told me about a trolley lady that comes down the train..." Of course, Jaxon is relying on information on when his parents were in Hogwarts, maybe the trolley lady no longer does it, could be someone new, or they even stopped it altogether, he wants it to be a surprise to her on what chocolate frogs are and what they do.
