What A Charmer

Lark had been pacing for some time outside of the classroom for Charms. She had gotten here as early as she was able, worried she wouldn't get a decent seat.. and a bit worried she wouldn't have been able to find it. The first official day of classes had been spent trying to get herself a good route to and from class, the Common room, and Great Hall. Finally letting herself settle against the wall, leaning into the wooden paneling between two paintings who seemed to be bickering, Lark let out a small anxious sigh. Her golden eyes peered around hoping to see one of her new friends make their way towards the class. She couldn't be sure if most of the excitement with the group had been merely jitters, new and exciting people to meet... or if they all truly had started to form a lasting bond. She had never... never been around anyone her age until Summercamp and even then hardly spoke to anyone else.
"It's open!" A small Gryffindor girl chirped as the door to the Charms class opened so the first years could all file into the room. Letting a swarm of her peers make their way through the door, Lark gave a last look around desperate for a familiar face. She really, really, really did not want to sit alone. Suddenly a rush of fear shot through the young girl's veins.
Falling in line behind a couple of other Ravenclaws, Lark hurried her way into the room. It looked brilliant! Long desks neatly arranged, tons of books, tall windows and a large amount of space. It was quite welcoming. As the mass of first years jostled around each other, the Professor introduced himself and gave directions for seating.
"Try to mingle and get to know other students-"
A couple of girls pushed past Lark as the professor's words made her falter on the steps up towards a middle row of seats. Mingle... get to know other students... Lark's palms began to sweat and heart pound a little harder against her chest. Spying a somewhat open spot, Lark sat herself down hastily and shoved her hands in her lap, knotting them up in her gray jumper. Was her tie on too tight? She felt like her breath was being squeezed from her lungs. Maybe it was too hot in here.
Pulling her wand from the pocket sewn into her skirt, Lark shakily set it on the desk in front of her and pulled out her books for class from her bag. Keeping her eyes down she tried to ignore the already giggling girls behind her and rowdy boys play fighting over who sat next to who.

What A Charmer
@Lark FlaerTo put it short and simple, Gem was afraid of the other kids.
Maybe that was a weird way to put it because it wasn't necessarily true, but in an obscure sense, it absolutely was. He didn't like to mingle so much with other students, and while he'd spoken to a few of his peers, and the group he'd sat with for meals were great people, he just couldn't seem to get a handle on his social side yet.
While they waited to be let into the classroom, he'd spaced out-- right up until he was basically jutted out of it by being shoved on the shoulder by some kid. He waddled inside, eyes glistening with amazement at the architecture - he didn't have too long to dote on it, though, since everyone else was already mingling like it was spelling the letter 'cat'.
In a panic, he looked for a desk, hoping he'd find someone he knew -- and thank Merlin he did.
He sat himself down next to the silver haired girl in a hurry, smiling at her all sheepish-like, his hands spreading out on the desk - way to highlight his nervousness.
"Lark! Thank God, I thought I'd have to be in here all by meself-" He huffed, turning his body so he was facing her. "Quite noisy they are, huh? The class, I mean," He nodded his head at a few boys and girls who had already started to scream about... well, something. "You doing all right? You look like you're about to toss your cookies."
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

Lark held her breath as she felt someone plot down beside her on the bench. Her eyes instantly darted up to see Gem having sat next to her making her let out a little sigh of relief. She perked up instantly, shoulders setting back ever so slightly and a smile parting her lips as the boy spoke. Lark gave a nod at Gem's mention of noise. Hopefully things would settled down so they could concentrate.. she was just as excited as the others but some were going a bit too overboard making her feel even more anxious and uneasy.
"You doing all right? You look like you're about to toss your cookies."
She sure felt like it. Her stomach still rolled in on itself as she opened her mouth to reply. "Y..y..yeah." She stammered as the rest of the class seemed to quiet at the Professor's request. "I'm glad you sat here... I didn't know if anyone else would end up bein' in here with me." She scooted a little closer to the boy and further from the Ravenclaw next to her who seemed to have her nose upturned acting as if she was above her fellow first years.
"Do y'need a quill?" Lark pulled an extra from her bag in case he did. She was pretty fond of taking notes already and had come to found it rather enjoyable. As the Professor continued his lecture she fought the urge to throw her hand up at each question... somehow answering all his questions she thought might get her unwanted attention from her peers. Opening her journal she flipped to an empty spot pre-marked for all of her Charms work, hours of staying up during Summer had paid off with her organizing each and every notebook she had and calendar she had drawn up to plan for the year. Looking to Gem she tried to see if he needed any parchment as well. Would it be rude to offer? Lark bit the corner of her lip and stared down at her own book for a moment as Professor Vernatis went over concentration of spell-casting.
"Parchment?" She whispered not to disrupt the students and lecture around them. Half of her attention still on the lecture and taking a bit of quick, short handed notes to expand upon later. If he did require anything Lark would offer him whatever needed with a smile.
