Under the bright moonlight
The crisp night air brushed against Anna’s face as she stepped onto the Astronomy Tower, her small figure nearly blending into the vast shadows and darkness of the room, The sky stretched endlessy above her, deep and stable, filled with striking constellations, most of which she could name with ease.
She slowly walked to a window, as silently as possible, holding her plushy penguin against her chest as if to protect herself. It was strange, being here; so far away from home, yet standing under the same sky she had gazed at for years back in Ballyboley. If she closed her eyes, she could imagine, as if it was happening before her eyes, the vision of her father sitting in the forest, alone, appreciating the silence and the beauty of the full moon, a thick, classic book of stories made centuries ago. Anna could her mother dancing with the servants, wearing a bold party outfit while watering the plants and singing to herself, to keep her spirit alive. Anna could envision her brother, curled up in bed, his small hands clutching at the worn stuffed dragon his older sister had given to him on his 7th birthday. She would still owl him every detail of Hogwarts, the school he was so excited to learn about, and he would always ask for more.
Anna sighed. That deep, dark sky brought her inspiration to think alone, in silence, which was a breath of fresh air, given how noisy and crowded Hogwarts usually was. She closed her eyes for a moment, inhaling deeply, allowing herself to dive into that moment. Anna could still feel her own weak smell of lavender, one of her favorite scents. She wished she could keep this moment of inspiration and peace forever.
Anna opened her eyes again, her gaze locking onto a particularly bright star. Sirius. Before she entered in Hogwarts, she was sure that she would arise to the top with her hard work and early education, but now, she wasn't so sure. Between all of those people, all of those intelligent and hardworking students, Anna wondered with some worry whether she would shine brightly in Hogwarts like the star of Sirius, or if she would simply fade into the background, just like most of the stars in the infinite sky.

Kai hadn't been able to sleep. She had been feeling restless, tossing in her bed. She had decided to give up on trying to sleep, dressing silently and slipping out of the dorms on quiet feet. Wandering the silent halls, she had made her way up to the Astronomy Tower. She had always found peace in the stars. She stepped silently into the tower room, inhaling the scent of the night air. It calmed her, allowing her mind to slow.
Kai didn't notice the other girl in the room, not at first. Her eyes had slid shut as she listened to the soft whisper of the wind as it brushed against her face, like it was greeting an old friend. Hogwarts was wonderful, but it was crowded and loud, so she took another deep breath, soaking in the peaceful silence.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, making her way to a window to stare up at the stars. She wasn't oblivious, however. She could see the other girl now, very aware of her presence, but she wasn't sure if the other girl had noticed her yet. Not wanting to bring attention to herself, she stayed silent, staring out at the endless sky, the stars shining like a soft silver blanket above, casting everything in a silvery glow. She let out a soft sigh, closing her eyes again, just listening to the wind and taking deep breaths, wishing she could stay that way forever.

Under the bright moonlight
Anna had been lost in her thoughts, her gaze drifting distractedly over the infinite expanse of stars. She had her face turned turned to the window, her face as expressionless as it could be, as she pondered about the new world she was stepping into at Hogwarts. After a few seconds, however, she noticed a sound pattern that wasn't there before. A breathing that wasn't her own. Anna then noticed there was a shadow stretching, one with a shape that wasn't there before. The hufflepuff slowly moved her eyes to her side.
Under the moon's silvery glow, the black haired girl could see the outline of somebody else. That other person--a girl-- stood by the window, still as a statue, her face turned toward the sky as if listening to something only she could hear. The wind tugged at her robes, she looked so peaceful. Anna, however, stared for a few seconds at that other girl before stepping away.
For a few seconds, the hufflepuff remained silent.
—...Who...What are you doing here?
Anna furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head, though not quite displeased, but curious, as if the idea of someone who's not herself visiting the Astronomy Tower at this time was far too odd, unfamiliar.

Kai flinched in surprise. She internally cursed herself for being noticed as she turned slowly to face the other girl. The silver light from the stars made her pale skin look impossibly paler. Her green eyes locked on the other girls, their green depths seeming endless.
She couldn't help the words that fell out of her mouth. "I don't think that's any of your business," she said shortly.
As soon as she spoke the words, she winced. She hadn't wanted to sound that harsh. Then again, she hadn't wanted to speak at all. "Ah...my apologies..." Kai apologized for her tone, dropping her endless green gaze to the ground. "I just wanted to look at the stars."
She glanced out the window to stare longingly at the sky again before turning back to the girl. She messed with her black velvet choker for a second before dropping her hand again, this time fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. Stay still, she thought fiercely, but she was still fidgeting. She could still hear the soft whistle of the wind in her ears and she greatly appreciated it, like the soothing voice of an old friend, still staring at the other girl with mild interest.

When the blonde first spoke, Anna blinked, clearly taken aback, and brought her closed left hand in front of her own chest, with an offended expression, and even opened her lips to answer something defensive, but then the other girl apologized.
—Ah... Okay... Apology accepted, then.
Anna lowered her tensioned shoulders, and sighed. Only now did she realize that the scare of suddenly noticing the presence of the paler girl had made Anna let her penguin plushy fall. She took it from the ground, wiped off a nonexistent dust and looked at it with a bit of guilt, and murmured to the plushie:
—One little scare, and I already dropped you like trash. Sorry, Aoibheann.
Then, she put the penguin inside her outfit's collar, its flippers hanging from there and its little button eyes peeking out from the collar. Then, Anna raised her head to look at the blonde.
—I can see why you'd come here. The stars look as beautiful as always... There's no place better than the Astronomy Tower to look at them.
Anna turned to the window, and looked to the sky again. The gentle wind brought nothing but peace, giving the place a calmer atmosphere.
"Even at the observatory at my house, I've never had a sight like this...", Anna thought, marveled. "The night sky is the best... I wish I could look at the moon forever..."
—Ah, do you stargaze often?— Anna asked, but didn't wait for an answer. —Do you have a favorite constellation?
Anna was holding the tip of her long sleeves and playing with them mindlessly.

Kai turned back to the window, but kept shooting discreet glances at the other girl out of the corner of her eye. She didn't really interact with a lot of people, so she wondered at this girl who didn't seem to be uncomfortable with her presence.
Her questions caught Kai off guard, and it took her a second to answer. "Yes, I stargaze often," she answered the first question. "My favorite constellation is probably...hm...Ursa Major or Delphinus," she added after a moment.
She sat in silence for a moment, staring longingly up at the sky. She returned the questions the girl asked. "What about you? Stargaze often? And do you have a favorite constellation?"
She glanced at the dark-haired girl before up at the sky again. It was odd stargazing with someone. For the longest time, the stars, the moon, and the wind had been her only true friends, and she had never shared the hobby with anyone. She wondered what her life would be like if she had ever had someone to stargaze with. Not much different. She thought bitterly, listening to the soft song the wind was singing. It was something she was familiar with, but her thoughts kept jumping back to the other girl. It was odd to her.

For a while, Anna simply let the silence settle between them like dew on grass. Quiet, natural, like the moon on the dark sky. Right now, there was no need to hurry for an answer, or at least that's what Anna felt. "The sky's the same as always...", the hufflepuff thought, "But everytime, it feels like I'm seeing it for the first time."
Anna glanced towards the pale girl next to her. It was just enough to see the way the girl’s eyes reflected the sky.
—Delphinus... It's an unusual choice. Most people don't really remember those constellations.
It was a strange sensation. They were both in the same room, looking at the same sky, breathing the same air, and despite being so close in this moment, that blonde felt so distant. Somehow, Anna felt a sense of familiarity with her, even though they have never met each other before. Although this might be one-sided, feeling like you've met someone before you actually did is a fascinating feeling.
—I stargaze sometimes... When I don't want to sleep, you know? Or when I get curious about the constellations and their story. I like the constellation of Perseus... It looks beautiful on the sky.
The black haired girl looked back at the stars, but she couldn't focus on them now. Right now, she couldn't pay enough attention to identify where each constellation was found at, for she was too busy thinking about the unique star next to her who was shining in her own way, just like every single person was. But this was was right next to Anna, and held the entire universe inside her very eyes.

Kai smiled slightly, just a slight twitch of her thin lips. This was a strange thing for her. She connected with few people. Most were driven off by her dark sense of humor, or odd smile. However, this girl seemed to share her love of the stars. It was an incredible sensation, as the girl was so used to being alone.
She seems...kind. Not like the others. Not afraid of me. The thought was startling to Kai.
Glancing at the Hufflepuff, she nodded appreciatively at the girls answer. "Perseus is quite a beautiful constellation," she agreed softly.
It's so strange...I wonder if she would run if I smiled...genuinely smiled. She thought about it for a second. It would probably scare her. She couldn't help the dark shadow that passed over her features. She hugged her arms close to her chest and stared up at the sky once more.
Only, her mind still wandered. This girl was kind and quiet, so unlike everyone else, and she seemed to be connected to the sky almost as much as Kai herself was, though she knew it would be for very different reasons. Surely this girl had all the friends she could ask for. Surely she didn't need any other friends.

Anna took a few seconds to admire the starry sky. The constellations, the deep sky, the bright moon... It was all very beautiful. And this peaceful moment made the hufflepuff feel at ease with the blonde beside her, allowing words to flow through her mouth smoothly and thinking nothing of them. Her mind wasn't racing for an answer, there were no suffocating crowds or overwhelmingly loud noises. Distracted with her own calmness, Anna didn't realize how little she has been talking; usually, she would be telling everything she knows about the story of constellations and their effects in potions. Perhaps that moment was too serene to excite the girl into giving an astronomy lecture, or maybe she was just too tired to talk about how the phases of the moon can interfere the process of potion-making.
—Mhm. I used to see it late at night with my father...
Anna closed her eyes. As she did, she could once again remember how her father would stay up late, marveling the moon and silently teaching his daughter about stars. A feeling of warmth washed over her as she saw, in her memories, her father sitting on a chair next to her and drawing the constellations, while Anna would watch the movements of his hand closely, wrapped in a blanket, standing next to their telescope. If she just thought about those wonderful memories, surely she could blend in with the deep, infinite sky, as though she was part of the night itself, a shining star from a beautiful constellation.
But stars can't talk. And stars can't wrap themselves in blankets or marvel at the beauty of butterflies, flowers or people. Was Anna to be a star, she would not be sitting here with this quiet and knowledgeable girl, and wouldn't be able to appreciate this moment. She glanced again at the blonde next to her, reassessing her poetic desire of becoming part of a greater constellation, shining like a bright star on the night sky. "I'm so glad I'm not a star!"
—Hey... Uhm... Blonde girl? What is your name?
"There is no way I can leave here without knowing the name of the only person who likes the constellation of Delphinus!", thought she who is a nerd.
The air was starting to become chilly... Anna hugged her warm plushy penguin against herself as a shield against the cold. Ah, had she only brought a blanket...

Kai glanced at her, startled, and there was the small smile again, but it seemed almost suppressed, like it wasn't her real smile. "My name's Kai. What's your name?" She tilted her hair, blond hair escaping her braid.
Kai prided herself on her observation skills, it was one of her biggest strengths. She could feel the chill in the air, and noticed the way the girl pulled her plushy closer to her chest. She reached up and fiddled with the clasp of her coat for a second.
Without a word of explanation, she shed her cloak, and held it out to the other girl. As she did, the wind picked up slightly, just for a moment, brushing against her skin, and she relaxed. It was cold, but she didn't mind. The other girl was clearly more affected.
When Kai was younger, she had left her home many times, especially when it was windy, and just let herself be. The wind was her friend, stars a companion, and the cold a comfort. So she didn't mind giving the other girl her cloak to protect her from the cold.
She chuckled slightly as the wind tugged at the loose strands of her hair. "Hello old friend." She murmured to wind under her breath before turning back to the girl.
