Alan was not all to sure what he was doing outside, it seemed to be pretty cold but he missed the Hogwarts Grounds immensely. There was just something about this place that was... magical and totally in the metaphorical sense. He knew of course that this place was actually magical, but it also had this feeling and the beauty of something that could not be real! A smile tugged at his lips as he walked through the snow; it was not snow that really stayed it would probably melt by the slightest rise in temperature, but Alan did not care about that. Honestly there were already a lot of big areas were the meadow showed and it just gave the place even more charm.

It was early evening and the train had just arrived a bit ago. Alan's stuff was already back in his room and after a late lunch the outdoors were the first place he had wanted to go to. It usually was, since Alan loved it out here. While wandering about without direction, Alan could see a boy who appeared to be looking for something. Alan frowned slightly as he pushed his scarf up, to cover half of his face as he walked over to the other figure. Alan had no recognition of ever seeing or talking to him, so he was a bit curious... especially what he was doing here.

"E-excuse you...", he muttered, happy that the scarf did a good job at hiding his face from being seen as he felt the embarrassment coloring his face in a light shade of red around the cheeks. "A-are you lookin' for somethin? N-need some help p-perhaps?". Alan looked up at the other boy, was he an upper year maybe? Alan could never tell since he was often smaller than others or he could not know that maybe Dale was a descendant from some giants? He shook his head, he should stop thinking this crazy... so he tried to focus and wait for the other boy to reply.

Dale shifted around in his large jacket, he wasn't very comfortable wearing something so... large. But he also didn't wanna be cold, his shoes were starting to fill with snow, not a nice feeling. As he walked around the grounds he almost forgot about the entire reason he was out here, to begin with, he could be inside, next to a warm fire. But he remembered his reason, he had to find some rusty metal. For the past few months he had been collecting his rust from the old bathrooms, but he had basically gotten all the rust he could with the "tools" he had, he had been using a nail filer he found laying about. And at the end of his very difficult labor, all he was left with was one small bag of rust, one test he could run. He needed more rust, he could get the other components easily. That all lead back to why he was out here today, If he could find an old piece of metal, with a thick layer of rust, that would be all the rust he would need. But the issue was, the snow made it kind of hard to see anything, and for some reason, he doubted that such a magical school would just leave an old plate of metal laying about. But that didn't stop him from looking!

"E-excuse you..." Dale heard a faint voice say, he looked around and behind him, he didn't see anyone, but then he looked down, there was a guy looking up at him. The boy spoke up again, he asked Dale if he was looking for something and if he needed help. Dale had no idea who this boy was, but maybe he had seen some metal before, besides the faster, he could find some, the faster he could get outta this cold. "I-Im looking for some m-metal, with s-some rust on it? Have you seen any like.. rusted metal lying a-around?"

Alan looked at the other boy anxiously, a bit nervous that he had just spoken to some unfamiliar kid he had never interacted with before. But the boy had looked like he was in need of some sort of help and Alan could not have left the boy on their own now, could he? He was glad when his assumption confirmed itself, as the boy was in fact looking for something. What the other boy was looking for however Alan had not an ounce of a clue.

"R-rust?", he asked and tilted his head slightly in confusion, "Is that a special kind of metal? Or some charm?", Alan asked in confusion. As rust was usually or most often prevented by some repairing and maintenance spells in magical areas, Alan had no idea about it, at least not about the term, just what it looked like. So maybe it was an animal for all he knew; an insect of some sort that liked to live on metal? But Alan had never heard of an insect called rust and if it was a common one he would have had heard about it before? Maybe it was a rare one? He stared at the other boy curiously as he waited for an explanation. "I could help you look for rust, but is that dangerous? We should probably ask someone for help, if it could be dangerous?", the Gryffindor added. He wondered, if it was an insect, whether it could pose a danger and what spells would be effective to catch them. He hoped his questions did not seem all too stupid, as he anxiously waited for the Slytherin boy to respond.

Dale had never met anyone that had no idea what rust was, but there was a first time for everything, and especially at a school for wizards, not everyone would know things about the muggle world, and for some reason, he doubted there were science classes in the wizarding world. He tried to think of a way to describe it without confusing the guy, "Well, h-have you seen any pieces of metal that are covered i-in a reddish thing?" giving a physical description would be easier to give than to explain what it was... albeit a bit lazier too, but sometimes lazy is good.

The other guy seemed to worry that it was dangerous, he could barely make out his face, so he couldn't tell if he was scared for some reason, but the boy suggested that they should ask someone for help... not something Dale wanted to do, asking just one person was too much of a risk already... "N-no no, it's nothing dangerous, its just something that... grows on metal?" dale assured the guy. He was lying, rust wasn't dangerous at all, well... at least until you mix it with other things, but Dale would be safe, hopefully.

"Y-You mean like... old metal?", he asked curiously. He never knew how the stuff on old metal could be of any use, especially to another child. Alan never really had any interest in it and just knew that it meant that the metal had been aging away, gaining color and just not feeling as nice as before. Was this what rust was? The weird crust that made a metal stop being shiny? "Is that what rust is?", the Gryffindor voiced out his thoughts, as he glanced over to the other boy. His voice was still a bit muffled from the scarf that covered a big portion of his face, so when Alan noticed this, he kind of pulled his scarf down a bit, revealing his face.

"I can help you find old metal... is there a reason you need that u-uhhh r-rust?", he wondered, as his curiosity got the better of him. Still he could not help but think, that the other kid must be pretty smart, after all he had known the term for something Alan had only known as old or colored metal; then again he Gryffindor had never really paid attention or had interest in knowing, yet he could not complain about having learned something new. He even knew just the place to look for rust!

Old metal was one way to put it, technically he wasn't wrong... but it was a weird way of putting it, but it seemed like the guy was understanding what it was, so it worked. "Y-Yeah, I guess you could say that's what that is." Dale replied. But Dale was a little worried, the boy seemed a bit too curious, he was a bit worried that the boy might rat him out to the teachers...

The boy pulled down his scarf a little, revealing his face... it looked like the boy was a little younger then Dale, maybe he was a second year, or maybe even a first-year... But Dale was very bad at guessing ages. The boy asked him why he needed rust, the question took Dale by surprised by the question, he had no idea how to respond. Dale quickly tried to think of a good lie, "Ummmm... I-Im trying to prove a point to a friend?" Dale said quickly, "He said I couldn't find any rust here... and I wanted to prove him wrong?" While not the best lie he had ever told, it got the job done well enough... at least for now, and he hoped the boy wouldn't ask any more questions.

The third year looked over to the other kid, not completely sure why that would be a bet of some sorts. But he also did not see a reason why the other kid should lie about such a thing. But the Slytherin did seem to be pretty nervous, which made him a bit suspicious to Alan as he glanced at the other kid. "So you won't put anyone in danger with this stuff?", he pressed on the matter just to be completely sure. Alan did not want the other kid to get into trouble or have him hurt other students.

If he was being honest, the other kid did not look like someone who would go around and hurt other people, at least not intentionally, but Alan had no idea what the use of this rust was and just wanted to be sure. He knew just the place where he could find it, even, so he actually could help the other kid with his so called quest to find rust.

"W-who are you by the way? I d-don't think we have met be-before...", the Gryffindor murmured as he glanced at the taller student. Which year would he possibly be? Alan found this really hard to tell, since the other kid was so much taller than he himself was.

Dale was a little bit off-put by the boy's questions, he assumed his lying worked much poorly then he had first anticipated... he'd have to keep working on that particular skill set. Dale calmed his nerves, stuttering would only make him sound even more suspicious, "Yeah, it's just for a bet, nothing dangerous about it." That technically wasn't a lie it was only "dangerous" when mixed with other things in just the right ratios.

The other guy asked him who he was, Dale wasn't that keen on getting to know this guy more. But it would only make him lead him to what he needed faster, "Oh, sorry, my name is Dale, Dale Kurt. What about you?" Dale wasn't all that interested in who he was, but it was the only thing he could think to say, without making the conversation awkward. "So, do you mind leading me to where you think I could find rust?" Dale was a little excited, while his last two tests were a flop, maybe this one would yield better reactions, and if he could find a fresh supply of Rust, nothing could stop him from running an unlimited amount of poorly constructed "bombs".... hopefully

i rolled a 4.... for a wisdom check >.> guess alan will believe you this time and is gonna be FULLY clueless XD
The third year stared at the other kid, wondering for a while, before shrugging his shoulders. He had no idea what you would need the rust for but apparently Dale just wanted to impress another person with all the knowledge he had. Alan began to think where they could best find some of the rust, the other kid was talking about. He looked around, when he remembered all the stuff that Griffith build per hand. Alan was sure that Dale could gather some of the rust from loose nails that pointed out of all the structures and signs the professor had put up there...

"M-my name is Alan... P-pleasure to meet you!", he responded cheerfully as he waved to the other kid to follow him through the snow as he made his was over to the stables. "Here are lots of signs, I'm sure you could find some loose nails and stuff that have some rust on them", he explained, a bit anxiously. Was he correct? Was this a place where the other kid could find rust? "W-will that be enough to impress that friend of yours?", he wondered, rubbing the back of his neck, as he tilted his head slightly. Alan hoped it was, he really wanted the other kid to win his bet!

Dale followed the boy through the snow, he regretted his poor choice in footwear. His tennis shoes were low full of snow, he could barely feel any of his toes, he wished he was back in the Slytherin common room by the fire, or even in the library. As they continued to walk through the snowy landscape, Dale was pretty amazed by the look of the snow, he didn't get much snow where he grew up so it was a new site to him, but if he was being honest he preferred the warmer temperatures and the snow in his shoes didn't help the snow's case to earn favor with him.

They arrived at the place, it was a stable area. Dale had no idea they even had a stable, Alan told him he could get rust from the nails.... and signs... oh great more rust scrapping, and this time it was even worse, it's not like he expected just to find bags of rust just waiting to be taken, but he was not looking forward to taking out individual screws and scarping the rust of them... Dale looked over to the boy, with a slightly pained expression "Y-yeah this'll work... i-i guess..." Dale tried to think of a way to make this easier... nothing came to mind. "Uhh t-thanks for the help. Sorry to keep you out in the cold." Dale thanked the boy, he hoped he wasn't too suspicous of him.
