Finally, something Sola wasn't nervous about. Well, she was nervous, but less so. This was DADA. Her family was famous for this subject. Everyone knew about the Haze family's affinity with this class. Half of her family was in law enforcement, so it was hard not to know.

She hoped she would do well. If she didn't... well, how on earth could she follow her biggest goal in life? She wanted to be an Auror when she grew up, like her father. Her family had a long history as Aurors and Hit Wizards alike, but the place she split from them was... well... all of them were in Hufflepuff. And she was in Slytherin...

The class was split between Slytherin and Hufflepuff, which just made her feel a bit more self-conscious. Sitting down, looking across at the place she was meant to be. Where she wanted to be, but where she never would get to. She still had yet to owl her father. What would he think when he found out?

No matter. If there was one way she could prove she was just like her father, it was by aceing this class. And she would do whatever it took.

Upon entering class the soft sound of multiple conversations joined together in one loud symphony of chitter chatter. Vikka was pretty excited to be in this class, since it would prove useful in her future travels if ever she came upon a dangerous situation. She came to a stop, hugging her books to her chest as her eyes farted around the room in search of a place to sit. There she thought as she made haste to the open chair beside a Slytherin.
Immediately she greeted the girl ”Hello, mind if I sit here?” she asked as she began to set her books down already assuming she wouldn’t be rejected.
The smallish girl seemed a bit anxious, but why? This was one of the best classes!
The class quickly became two times quieter upon the arrival of the professor. Slytherin could be seen pointing out Hufflepuff and making fun or snide remarks. In response most Hufflepuff just ignored the sassy serpents while other made blunt remarks right back. Either way it wasn’t odd that most Slytherin didn’t get along with the other houses. A couple of students were arguing over who’s got the better wand, just another example of the competition between houses.

Sola found herself a seat on one side of the room. She heard whispers all around, students gossiping or thinking of what they would learn and how they could use it. Some of her fellow Slytherins already had their wands out and were pretending to cast some spell. Chatter about the experiences of siblings and parents and such. Sola knew her father had loved this class... well, once his nightmare of a first year had concluded. Many people were still scarred by that.

Sola noticed a girl with a yellow tie walking towards her. "Hello," she greeted. "Mind if I sit here?" She was already putting her stuff down.

Sola nodded. "S-sure," she said quietly. She didn't understand why a Hufflepuff would choose to sit next to her, a Slytherin. Tey all had bad reputations. Some moreso than others. All around, she could hear whispers and jokes, hissed like serpents. Sola never engaged in the rudeness. But then again, she didn't engage much in anything.

The girl was pale and blonde, with braids woven into her hair. She was slightly taller, Sola noticed, but didn't take much mind. "I'm Sola," she said quietly as the teacher made his way to the front. "Sola Haze."

A smile grew on her face “it’s nice to meet you Sola” she chirped. Attention! Class will now begin so take your seats and hush the professor called out. Vikka’s focus went right on the teacher, still in delight to be here.

As class commenced Vikka scribbled down notes and followed along in the book. She grew anxious to talk to Sola more, hopefully establish a friendship with her. Vikka felt that no one was truly better than anyone else and house colors didn’t matter.

Vikka finished her notes on DADA History, part one; so she decided to write a note to her table mate. Do you like this class? it read. She then slowly slid the paper to Sola without getting caught. She watched all around her, moving only her eyes around. She watched as a couple other Hufflepuff were passing notes as well. The only difference was they were using magic to pass theirs.

The boy had cast a spell which folded the paper then another spell to float the note into the girls robe sleeve. This was a neat trick but Vikka had no idea what spells they were using. She was still lacking in the charms department.

Sola was very attentive in class, though she didn't take down notes. She never really did. She could rely on her memory most of the time. She was eager to see what they would be learning first, but she didn't show it on the surface.

She could still remember talking to her dad about this class before her school year began. He had just come home from work and looked quite ragged and tired out. He went into the kitchen to get some warm tea, and she came running in. She was maybe six at the time. "Daddy, daddy, I know what I want to be when I grow up!" she'd said.

He looked at her in surprise and then sat down in a nearby chair to get himself on level with her. "Oh, really?" he asked. "What?"

"An Auror!" she exclaimed. "Like you, and Auntie." She didn't know at the time her aunt was only a Hit-Wizard, not an Auror.

He chuckled. "Are you sure?" he asked, to which she nodded eagerly. He shook his head, smiling. "Well, then you'll have to study very hard, and get great marks in Defense Against the Dark Arts."

She came back to the present, and after a moment of thinking, she began writing down notes. He was right: she would have to work hard.

A note slid over to her, then. She glanced over at the girl next to her, realizing it must've been her. She was glancing over at Sola, checking to see if she got it. Sola read the paper and briefly wrote a reply back. Yes. I've been excited for it all summer. My dad says it's great. She passed it back quietly, making sure the teacher wasn't looking.

Vikka quickly slid the paper under her notes and waited a moment before reading the reply. As the professor passed by her table; reciting a paragraph from the book he was balancing in the air, wand lightly flicking in the books direction.

When he was towards the other side of the room Vikka quick peeled at the message beneath her pages. Her quill quickly scribbled a reply before returning the note to its hiding place. She would pass it over in a moment.

As she read the pages that were being recited to the quiet class, she notice a Slytherin take a seat beside her. Only peeking at him from the corner of her eye she made out a boy with neatly combed blonde locks. His tardy arrival to the class was over looked, lucky him.

Vikka quick jotted down a few more notes before looking over to the boy. He looked to be taller than her, and much thinner; though you wouldn’t tell from the size of his robes. It was only noticeable if you stared long enough, which she was... However, she had no idea she was blatantly staring at this nervous lad.

Seth tried to ignore the stare of the girl but it was impossible. Staring made Seth always nervous and feel uncomfortable, even if the most of the students stared at him. Still, Seth asked himself why everybody was staring at him, although he did not grin or laugh like most of the time.

'Keep calm', Seth thought and took a deep breath. But he kept struggling keeping calm - finally, he lost the fight. So Seth started tipping with his toecap on the floor, until the professor glanced at him with an angry glimpse. Immediately, Seth stopped and stared on his book. Though the girl stopped staring, Seth was still nervous. He wanted to know why the girl stared!

As the professor looked away, Seth wrote on a small paper: Is everything okay? Did I do something wrong or was the place already taken? After insure oneself that the professor was not looking, Seth threw the small letter on the table of the girl.

She is a Hufflepuff, Seth thought as he realized. And she is sitting next to a Slytherin!
Some people would say that Seth's expression was surprised, but not in a bad way. Seth was not the type of boy that judged students by their house.

Seth was afraid that the girls might think he thought bad about them, so he smiled friendly before looking forward again.

Sola was scribbling away with notes when she noticed the girl next to her, whose name she still didn't know, she realized, was staring at a boy on her other side. She hadn't even noticed he came in with her focus.

He was a Slytherin, like her, but she didn't know what dorm he was in. She'd never seen the male dorms. She really wanted to, though. She had heard they were amazing, or, at least, the people they were named after were amazing. Merlin!? No one could really argue that he was great.

The boy was shifting uncomfortably, understandably. Sola, herself, had always hated being stared at. She reached over to tap on the girl's shoulder, but a tapping noise drew the Professor's attention and she withdrew her hand before she could be seen.

A minute later, a faint sound of paper on the desk coupled with the glimpse in her peripheral vision told her he'd passed a note. She stayed quiet, not wanting to get in trouble. All this note-passing was making her nervous. If they got caught, they would likely lose House points, and that was not how she wanted to start off her first DADA class.

The sudden tap on the should broke her focus, had she been staring again? Awkwardly she shifted in her seat and looked back to her own desk. A note? she thought as she opened it to read a message from the guy she was so rudely staring at. She quickly replied: Oh no I’m sorry, didn’t mean to stare

With that she folded it back up and gently tossed it back. Looking over to Sola she remembered her note and wanted to rewrite it. Thanks for the warning, I’ll talk to you after class she tucked her quill away and passed the note, sliding it under Solas book page.

The couple Hufflepuffs behind Vikka were not pleased with this, one tossed a small piece of crumpled paper to grab her attention. Vikka whipped her head around only to see the other Puffled Puff mouth at her stop it! which she left at that and turned back to her own book. Vikka agreed and quit being a distraction. She didn’t want to lose her house points.

The true intentions of the Hufflepuffs kick were to get Vikka to stop socializing with the Slytherin house. First years tend to get caught up in the diversity of the houses and make a dramatic thing over it.

Sola read the note silently, squinting a little bit. What warning? She shook her head, putting it away. At the very least it seemed the Hufflepuff girl wanted to talk to her after class. That could have been good or bad, but she could not guess.

Sola had always wanted to be in Hufflepuff, and being sorted into Slytherin worried her for personal reasons. She still had not written to her father about it all. What would he think? The thought utterly petrified her. Well... not really. What petrified her was the idea that she might be similar to her mother's family, who were not great. She had never met them, however, so she couldn't confirm her suspicions, and her mother did not talk about them often. Most of her knowledge came from her aunt.

Sola was suddenly surprised by the quiet sound of paper flying through air. A crumpled ball of it hit the back of the girl's head. The teacher whipped around and stared in their direction, but once she looked away, the girl looked back at the other students, who looked quiet cross. Sola scowled. it was probably to do with the note passing, or maybe the fact that she was passing them to a Slytherin...
