Wren had been watching all the girls talk amongst themselves. She didn't feel like talking, which was a first, because she had had a really bad day at school and was replaying all the events in her head. She turned to Jo, quietly saying:
"Jo, um, I-I think my nickname should be something like Babes or if we are going with animal names maybe something like Mockingbird, or Mockingjay cause I talk a lot and tend to repeat myself. I don't know. Most of my friends back home call me Babes, that's the reason I suggested it."
Wren decided that she was going to let everyone else get a chance to talk. The reason she had, had a bad day of school was because other first years had been making fun of her for talking so much. So in response to that Wren had decided she would try to say quiet as much as she could.
"Yea! Jo I totally agree!"
Wren decided that she would think of some ideas and write them down on paper.
"Would anyone like to borrow my book, To Kill a Mockingbird?"

I was talking with Gwen the other day while we were picking lavender for Herbology. She thinks that instead of using magic pranks like wasabi quills or love potion chocolates (which they’ll probably see coming}, we should put our heads together and try to think of a smart Muggle prank, since wizards aren’t really good at being logical - they rely completely on magic. An anti-jinx won’t work on chili peppers in the tea!]

Jo smiled. “That sounds lovely, Wren! But Mockingjay is a little bit long for a nickname - would you be okay if we shortened it to Jay - I kind of like Jay! Or perhaps Bluebird or something? Bluebirds also chatter a lot. And I’d love to borrow your book - Scout is my favorite character!”
She reached for Orlando and slid it towards Adlai. “I really, really loved this book - especially the scene with Sasha and the icebergs. That part was so sad, and I read it three times.”
She then held up another book for all of the group to see. “The book I chose this time around is The Great Gatsby - I just love how the flaws in the characters are drawn out by the glamorous setting.”
Seeing that nobody else was going to speak, she opened her notebook and began to read the names aloud.
“So for nicknames, I had the following ideas.
Primrose Mcarthy - something sweet but not too sticky. Whisker, Ragtail, Cotton, Dormouse - something like that.
Saoirse Dwight - sarcastic but resourceful. Wampus, Panther, Tiger, Redraw, et cetera.
Guinevere Brand - What about Phoenix, Feather, Kirin, or Luan? Some creatures from Chinese mythology might be a great fit for you.
Adlai Rod - I’m actually not sure, but you’re very quiet. What about Snake?
Angela Nelson - You’re very solitary. Owl or Newt might be good options, or something fluffier if you’d rather do that.
What does everyone think?”

Stella swallowed as she approached the Trophy Room door, her blanket and book bundled in her arms. The owl from Jo had said to come prepared with both, and Stella didn't like to disappoint. She already stuck out everywhere she went because of her obnoxiously bright red hair. She wouldn't want to be the girl who forgot to bring the two things asked of her.. Stella was rather excited for this-- the opportunity to make new friends around her age other than Raf. While he was easily becoming one of her best buds, Stella figured she ought to branch out and make some girl friends that she could bond with (Better yet, Raf had mentioned that the two study groups were going head-to-head! Stella couldn't wait to pull a few joking pranks on her friend)
But first.. She would have to meet the group, wouldn't she? She couldn't stay anchored to the floor in front of the door for forever.. Just that thought brought her mind to the book bundled in the blanket in her arms. She hoped someone else would be as interested to read it as she had been. Not everyone she'd encountered had shared her love for theatre, but maybe someone would want to read the novelization of one of her favorite musicals? She didn't know, but she took a deep breath and entered the room.
Five other girls other than Stella occupied the musty room and were, as it appeared, having a conversation that was already in full swing. This eased Stella a little-- at least she wasn't one of the first ones to arrive like she had been at the LGBTQIA club meeting. Putting a smile on her face, Stella waved with her free hand. "Hi everyone! I'm Stella-- Jo invited me." She greeted, looking around the room. She only recognized Adlai and Saoirse-- and that was only because she'd seen them around in the Hufflepuff common room and the dorms. She'd never actually interacted with them-- they hadn't been in the same general vicinity for Stella to make friendly conversation with them-- but she'd definitely seen them around.
"I hope that I haven't missed too much of the meeting," She said as she walked into the room and found a spot near Saoirse and a Gryffindor who looked familiar to Stella, but she couldn't quite place where she'd previously seen her.. Oh! She'd been the girl who'd chatted it up at the LGBTQIA meeting! She carefully lay down her yellow checkered blanket on the floor before promptly sitting down on it and looking around at everyone. "I do usually try to be early to meetings in case I don't make it on time." She explained, her accent heavily altering her pronunciation. Her I came out more as ah, and the word don't almost sounded as if it had another o before the n. So far, she'd only met one other student at Hogwarts from Scotland, and that had been Siobhan Baird, who had sat next to Stella at the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall and chatted it up quite a bit-- Her name was pronounced way differently than it was spelled, she was from Glasgow... Stella had been bombarded by conversation and had to rush to keep up with what the second year was saying.
Now, though, Stella looked down at the book in her hands-- the blue tree on the cover as bright as ever in the dirty room. At least she'd remembered to bring everything, she thought with a small smile to herself as she set it down in front of her-- the boldly printed title Dear Evan Hansen facing the ceiling. "I really don't know if anyone else here is interested in musicals, but my book that I brought is the novelization of one of my favorites-- It's called Dear Evan Hansen, and is based in America. It's quite well-known in my hometown, but.. I don't know. I haven't really met anyone else who knows of it. I've met a few Hamilton fans, but not really any fans of any other musical." She said with a small chuckle, gazing down at the book and fiddling with the cover. She didn't really know how to talk to large groups of people, other than her family. She hadn't known anyone else other than her family before Hogwarts. She'd been homeschooled before she got her acceptance letter. The only friend she'd really made was Rafael, and that was mostly because they'd been assigned each other's quill pal and had 'hit it off' as the Americans said. They'd played a get-to-know you game before the Great Feast and now knew each other fairly-- Raf definitely knew her better than anyone else this far, that was for sure. It'd been his idea for her to join this club, and she couldn't wait to see what would follow. For now, she would have to survive the first club meeting.

The girl slowly turned her head, facing towards the new arrival. She flashed her signature smile, "'ello, welcome to Acid Pop! It's nice to see another Gaelic in here." She patted the seat next to her, "I've never heard about your book, but it sounds nice! I'd like to read it sometime." The girl popped another chestnut into her mouth as the warm, fading light reflect off the trophies creating a beautiful golden outline that made the room lively yet homey.
The girl flipped open her book, 'The Portrait of Dorian Grey', it was one of her favorite classics, aside from Dracula. When she was younger the girl thought it may have been real, turns out she was right, she knew there was something that gave someone something...it ended with Crux according to her aunt, she was unsure the first part though. The girl quietly shut her book, there were only six people so where was everybody else. She looked over at the clock in the hall squinting her eyes to read it, it was almost time for the meeting to start, but this room made her feel sleepy and comfortable. It felt like a orange hand cradling her, just like her mother did years and years ago.

Prim's conversation was disrupted by a girl with beautiful bright red hair and a peppy, fun accent. She introduced herself as Stella Dawson and told the club about her book. Now Prim felt really unprepared. This girl who was also new had brought a book, blanket, and an amazing intro. "I've met a few Hamilton fans, but not very many fans of any other musical."
These words immediately brought Prim out of her thinking state. "I love musicals! My favorite is A Mid-Summer Night's Dream. But I also love Romeo and Juliet. I'm a fan of Shakespeare's work," she said a huge grin on her face. Her and this girl had something in common. Other than being new of course.
"I'm new to the club too! This is my first meeting." Prim smiled at her fellow newcomer happy she wasn't completely alone. "Next meeting I'll be sure to bring one of my musical books!" she said happily.
Saoirse then acknowledged her fellow Gaelic and talked about her book, while Prim went back into her thinking state. So much has happened this year! And boy am I ready to prank Rafa! Prank... "We should egg the door to the boy's bathroom! That's where they always have their meetings!"
Prim realized they probably had no idea what she was talking about. Prim tended to have outbursts like that from time to time. "Sorry! That was just an idea to prank the opposite club. Me and Rafa? Let's just say he needs a prank!"

“Snake?” Adlai repeated to herself as she took a seat and pulled the candies out from her pocket.
She found the concept of nicknames very interesting. She had already been given one by her friend Virgil. But a nickname representing them as an animal? She had never thought of that.
She did like snakes. She found them to be beautiful slender creatures. Adlai smiled at Jo and nodes.
“I like that. But what kind of snake?” She asks, knowing that Snake may be a bit to vague.
At the mention of pulling pranks Adlai shrinks back.
“Won’t we get in trouble?” She asks her club mates. Her palms begin to sweat just thinking about what her mother would do if she got into any trouble at school. Her father on the other hand would find it hilarious probably.
Adlai peered down at the book she had brought. When she entered it was hidden away her blanket. It was the book Jane Eyre which was written by Charlotte Brontë. She then remembers the bravery the character Jane had though out her life time in the book and her nerves ease. “Egging someone is a bit to simple. If we’re going to prank someone I say we pull something big. But it has to done all at once, think something from The Parent Trap.”

Wren started to reach for Stella’s book, then thinking better of it, she decided instead of snatching the book away from the beautiful girl, she would ask politely too.
“Hey, Stella? May borrow ‘Dear Evan Hansen?? I’ve heard that it’s really good! All my old muggle friends had read the book, but I never got around to it. So now I think would be a wonderful time!”
Wren said this with a big grin on her face, noticing this book was pretty famous and it was pretty hard to come across a copy of it. After asking Wren turned back to Prim.
“Hey, Prim? How’d you know where the boys meet?” She asked, quizzically. She was genuinely curious.
“I kind of like Jay! Or perhaps Bluebird or something? Bluebirds also chatter a lot. And I’d love to borrow your book - Scout is my favorite character!”
Getting distracted as always, she quickly turned to Jo to answer her.
“Jay’s fine with me! I like it better than Bluebird. Of course, you can borrow my book! It’s one of my favorite classics!! So, I guess we’ve decided on my nickname!”
Jo rattled off a list of nicknames for the rest of the girls.
“I think they all are good! They all sound like they would fit”
Wren was pretty content with how this had gone. She was really exited to read the new book. Where she was from in the muggle world, Dear Evan Hansen was coveted. If you had seen it or owned a copy of the book you were coveted. Obviously Wren had never read, nor seen it so she was just kind of on the outside.

Jo turned abruptly to face the door as the newest member entered the room.
“I didn’t know there were musical versions. I’d hate to have to hear Tybalt or Mercutio sing in Shakespearean verse, so I’m not sure I would enjoy it, but I won’t judge without watching the adaptations first.”
She shrugged, popping a crumb from the earlier muffin into her mouth.
“Hmm...Evan?” She mused, returning to Stella’s statement. It sounded like an American name - she didn’t know any Evans. Then again, Europe was just as new and confusing to her. “I’m super big on musicals, too, but I mostly stick with the classics. And The Heathers. I like the Heathers, too.” Realizing she was blathering, she took a deep breath as she listened to Prim’s suggestion. Before she could critique it, Adlai jumped in to offer her own two cents on the matter, with Wren interjecting every now and then. Jo waited to address the comments towards her, smiling and nodding until the room quieted.
“I second Adlai’s opinion about the prank. The more elaborate, the less they’ll have time to react. Besides, egging might be considered vandalism, so it might land us in detention. But don’t worry, Adlai! I promise getting caught won’t be an issue unless we do something dangerous that could get someone hurt. Otherwise, we aren’t breaking any rules, so I can’t see what grounds a professor would have for punishing us. As for the snake... Boa, Python, Cobra, Cottonmouth, or maybe viper. Viper is kinda cute, now that I think about it. And Jay is perfect for a twittering bird like Wren!”
She tried to get her mind off of Prim... but something was warning her. She wasn’t sure about what, though, so she decided to shut her mouth for now. She’d learned the easy way not to cross Saoirse or her best friend through Rafa’s library brawl - better, then, to give the girl the benefit of the doubt.
Aware that her expression had clouded over, she jerked back upright with another plastic grin.
”Right! Instead of setting a trap and waiting for the boys to stumble upon it, I say we plan and then invite the boys over - you know, pretend we’re being friendly and propose a picnic. They’ll be right in our territory; unleashing hell will be a piece of cake if we set up beforehand. Should we try something over at the Lake or in the Study Room, then?”
