It was very loud. The Hogwarts Express was just buzzing with kids excited for Christmas break. After a whole semester of working hard and studying, all the Hogwarts children were ready to get out of the castle and head home for Christmas break.
Rusty was no different. He was more then excited for Christmas break. He missed his sister and parents, and needed a break from all the homework. He felt like his back was going to break from carrying all of the heavy books!
Rusty was sitting in a compartment on the train with a few other boys who were also first years. Two of the boys were up walking around and treating the compartment like a jungle gym, which would usually annoy Rusty, but not today. He was in such a good mood, nothing could possibly annoy him.
All the children started screaming when the train pulled into the platform, coming to a screeching halt. Everyone instantly stood up and started collecting their belongings. Rusty grabbed his wand, bag, coat, and trunk. He got up to say goodbye to his fellow mates, and then stepped into the traffic-y hallway towards the exit of the train. Rusty felt all the children pushing their way towards the exit, beaming with excitement to see their families. Rusty was almost at the exit. He was only a few steps away from seeing his mother, father, and sister after 3 1/2 life changing months. Nothing could upset him right now.✧

Rusty stepped off the train, expected to be greeted instantly by his mother and father's kisses, and his sisters giggles. But they weren't there. Rusty wasn't worried though. There was lots of chaos going on at the platform, with every other kid greeting their families. Rusty pulled his trunk behind him, readjusted his backpack on his shoulder, and continued walking.
He pushed his way through the big crowd of parents greeting their children, but still could not find his own mom and dad.
Mom?! Dad! Where are you guys?
Unfortunately for him, Rusty's little voice was drowned out by the screaming crowd. He kept pulling his trunk along though, calling his family members' names.
Mary Anne?! Mom?! Dad!?
Rusty was starting to get worried. Every other child seemed to be with their family now, so where was his own? Rusty dropped his trunk on the ground and stood on top of it looking out from his now taller view for his family.
Mary Anne Singer! Frank Singer?! Arielle Singer?!!
Rusty looked out to the crowd. Lots of families were starting to leave now to catch their trains or cabs or floo powder. But Rusty still could not find his family.✧

Rusty kept shouting from on top of his trunk, hoping that his family was just lost and couldn't see his little first year body.
Mom! Dad! Mary Anne! Where are you guys?!
Little boy?! Are you okay?
Rusty looked down at the voice. It was a woman. She was holding the hand of a little girl, another first year in Rusty's grade.
Are you looking for your parents? Do you need help?
Rusty had been told around stranger danger all his life. He had heard stories of little boys like himself that were kidnapped and taken far away. But this woman seemed nice. And she seemed to be the mother of the girl in his grade. Rusty decided to trust her.
Oh yes ma'am. I can't find my mum or dad!
Rusty climbed down from the suitcase and looked at the woman. She smiled at Rusty and kindly took his hand. She led him and the other first year girl to a bench on the platform.
Seems we will just have to wait here until they come. Don't worry. I'll stay with you.
Rusty was so grateful. While the platform mostly cleared quickly because of all the Hogwarts families eager to start their winter break, here was this nice lady waiting with him. Maybe it was true what Rusty's mother had told Mary Anne and him. A mother will always protect any child.
It felt like they had been waiting on the bench for decades, until Rusty heard a little raspy voice. Mary Anne. Rusty looked up and saw his Mother, father, and Mary Anne looking down at him.
Where were you guys!?
Rusty jumped up to hug his family. They explained that their taxi cab was delayed. After Rusty's mother thanked the nice lady, the Singers headed home for their Christmas break hand in hand.
