Not Romantic I Swear!
"Then come on! Maybe you'll think better if I knock your head a few times! Funny how you're going all through this trouble for someone after what you were on about with 'friendship'!"
He was right. She did not believe in anyone but herself. People were in it just for themselves. They might ally themselves with her because she is strong, at an earlier time even clever. Because she was cunning. Because her her blood. Her magical potential. To ascend. Was Thomas ever her friend? The truth was that he was not, but he was the only 'friend' besides Alex that she ever had. She desperately wanted to connect to people, but she never could. She understood people too well and she found herself hollow. It was sad, the revelation that their friendship was quite probably one-sided. That downward gaze. Her admission. "Just because they don't mean it does not mean I lied."
It was true enough for her, they said it and she believed it. She wanted to believe it. Even Alex failed to say that they were 'friends.' It was to her the only connection she had to another person and she was going to...
Reid's knuckles met her jaw. This was his opportunity. The part-Veela's head was turned roughly to the side by the force of Kovac's powerful jaw-cracking blow. They were both incredibly powerful physically, weaker in terms of magic. She was spun part way around, her feet would slide and find stability. His other arm would swing around and hit her in the gut. She would buckle and let out a cough. A spray of blood would be released with all of the air from her lungs. She felt her lungs empty and the air hunger that followed as she tried to take in her first of several wheezing breaths.
He was bigger than her, had a longer reach. His melee and hers differed. But she still had her legs. Another dry cough and the coppery taste of blood mingled with mud in her mouth. She would swing her leg in a sweeping motion, knowing that she would miss but it would take Reid out of melee. A match in strength and an advantage in reach as well as now... durability. Each breath came as a rapid, seemingly desperate wheeze. "Just... Give me... his bones," her voice weak but present between breaths. "So they can... bring him back." She sounded mad, because the girl truly was cracked. There was an underlying truth to her insanity, a logic that lingered from the before that was essentially lost now.
She was arrogant but on her last breath. She would not admit it of course. She swallowed the blood as it filled her mouth from the cut on his inner cheek and tongue. The jaw was cracked, but only barely. Gasping for air, both of his blows were going to leave an impressive bruise. The hypothermia from the rain and the mud was setting in. She knew it but she was too stubborn to back down. Too confident in her strength and her endurance. Too angry.

The damage she suffered from his blows were felt, his knuckle throbbed but his mind snapped him out of his rage. 'Stop it, what are you doing?' His mother's common sense rang in his mind, she wouldn't want to see him like this. Erin wanted something he didn't have, so why was he so adamant in using physical force to get his point across? She perhaps unlocked a part of him he didn't like, it was ugly and uncalled for. His confidence visibly shattered even as he moved back from her sweeping motion.
Seeing the blood, he nearly set himself into a panic. What had he done? The muscles on his features collapsed as he took a deep breath and lowered his arms. He was cold and sore, but he felt as if she was worse. The student had no more intentions to fight her, so he took a few steps back. "... Your friend isn't dead. No one ate him, there's no evil plan ... I don't want to fight you anymore."
Reid turned around, blinking rapidly as he wiped his eyes over the pouring rain. "Just leave me alone, please." he spoke, nursing his hand. He went to go pick up his ball, hoping she'd give up the fight and let him be on his way. He was dreading the repercussions, dreading being reprimanded by the faculty for what he did to another student.
Her injuries were evident of that, he had no choice but to own up to it when he was eventually asked. He wasn't a model student, he had lackluster grades, but he at least considered himself a decent person. But he felt different, violent, moody, and impatient. These were the things he didn't want to be and yet here he was, doing something he never should've done at all.

Reid was winning, but he was not taking the win. The rain was cold and hard. She was bruised and bleeding, dirty and tired. Erin had a way with others, specifically men to rouse them physically in a violent rather than carnal way. Such could be evidenced in a one Reid Kovacs. Another mouthful of blood, she spat the blood onto the muddy floor and wiped the corner of her mouth with a muddy forearm simply replacing the blood with a streak of mud.
She steeled herself, anticipating another blow -- a tackle, a kick.
"... Your friend isn't dead. No one ate him, there's no evil plan ... I don't want to fight you anymore."
He claimed.
"Deny... Deny... Deny..." Erin repeated. "Deny that fact that Ben is bad" she scoffed. "He has really shown us a new side of him this past year, hasn't he?" The boy terrorized the school for the better part of a year. He was nothing but a menace and he was coddled as a fucking consequence! Un-fucking-believable. "Deny that you're a death witch. That your fellows Avery and Fawley had a reason to lie? Some friends, really," she conceded. Even if it was the truth, the sold him out quite easily. "They had to know that I was going to kick your ass. Not like my reputation is that great of a secret." A flicker of the old girl in this exhausted, battered form. "Deny, almost as bad as ignore. Like Hugh Lowe and Professor Browne," she took an agitated breath. The girl was unhinged as she fixed her glassy eyes on the Prefect. "Or even Quinn," who she had also confronted. "These people disappear, none of you even notice. Your ranks have thinned out too Kovacs. Why the fuck don't you care!"
She wasn't going to charge him. She was too weak, broken and it would have been at a severe disadvantage. Her head pounded, she could hear her pulse bounding in her ears like a drum. The periphery was dark, like she was wearing blinders. She could only see the Hufflepuff prefect.
"Just leave me alone, please."
"Ffft -- at this rate, you'll be the only one left." A shiver ran through her, it was the cold. She was never going to leave him alone. She was going to haunt him until one of them was dead, preferably him. She rubbed her temples with the pads of her fingers, moving around the mud that was caked into her hair like batter. Her headache was worse than her cracked jaw it would seem. She swatted at the air.
"Alone," she repeated. "Sure," a change of heart or an admission of defeat? She shook her head and her feet slid out from under her as she staggered to maintain her balance. "Dammit!" She complained. She was not even looking at Reid anymore. "The crones need to give me dreams..."

So this is why Erin came after him so quickly, Max and Eris sent her after him like a vengeful ghost. What did he do to them? He felt his face burn up under the rain and Erin's words only set to stoke those flames. The wizard felt a tinge of betrayal, trying to pass it off as maybe just as a joke. But after all that trouble, he took it differently and Reid's walls was starting to give way to what she said.
'Alone' and 'lie', he wasn't the most honest kid but he wasn't the type to put someone else in danger by lying, his lies were fairly minor. Reid picked up his ball, not replying to Erin, but his posture indicated that he had heard. The dramatics of friendships were coming back to him, it felt like it haunted him every now and then. Every year, he'd gain some and he'd lose some - sometimes more.
He didn't know how to keep them and didn't know if they even wanted to be around him. There were a few that were seemed to but he didn't know why he tried so hard to have them around. They were nice, he liked having numbers in a school so dangerous. But maybe he was also lonely and that itself was dangerous too. Reid wouldn't recognize it any time soon, he chose some semblance of ignorance.
This event will just be a memory, a bad nightmare that could've gotten worse, he'll forget it and worry about his exam next week. At least he hoped so. Reid continued on, not choosing to stay where he once was but to go deeper into the grounds. He needed a retreat, some time from himself and dwell over what Erin had done and said. He didn't want answers the same way Erin did, he was perhaps questioning how he saw things himself.
