For the first time, Seth didn't know what to do. Sure, he could study or try to talk with somebody. But he was nervous - too nervous to concentrate on acting like a normal boy.
So Seth decided to look after the magical creatures, although he did not know what exactly to do. But Maybe he would find something.
"Uhm... Hello", Seth said with a slight voice. Immediately, Seth felt ridiculous. What would his mother say when she knew that her only son speaks with animals? She would laugh at him and thought that her son was despaired or even crazy.
Seth sighted and shook his head. He knew that thinking of his mother - or even his father - was not good for him at the moment. Seth closed his eyes and counted silent. One...two...three. Then he took a deep breath and counted again to three.
With new thoughts, Seth opened his eyes and looked around.
"Better...", Seth said to himself and put his hands in the pockets of his pants. "Now let's see." Curious Seth looked around and searched for something he could do. But Seth was unsure what he was allowed to do or not. So he just stood there and... Did nothing.

The eleven year old basically hopped through the grass. It was absolutely beautiful to her out here, as nature was one of her favorite things to view. The plush grass under her feet scrunched and groaned as she walked over it, and she sung soft to herself as she walked to nowhere in particular. Looking around, she froze. Cloud watching was something her and her father used to do all the time, and she could imagine him standing beside her asking what the clouds in the sky reminded her of.

"A dolphin" She said out loud as if he were here, grinning and taking her hair out of her ponytail before adjusting the hat to sit correctly on the cascade of waves. Looking back down, she began to walk again, stopping just short of a boy that seemed to be her age. His back was faced to her, and she thought he was either nervous or scared. He must be new. She thought to herself before walking to stand in front of him. He was indeed her age, and she hadn't seen him around before, but she was glad to see a Slytherin crest on him. She beamed, and began with the introductions.

"Hello, I'm Amy Hayes. What's your name? I see that you have the Slytherin crest on you, as do I. We're from the same house" She grinned and pointed to their crests.

Seth was kind of overtaxed when the girl started talking to him. What does she want from me?, Seth thought immediately. He was not used to talk with somebody who didn't want to demand anything of him.
"I'm...", Seth started talking but stopped. He took a step back to get more space and forced himself to answer.

"I am Seth", he said, "nice to meet you."[ Then Seth smiled - but he did not know if it was a real or an usual fake smile. Actually, Seth did not know anything in this situation. He was too overtaxed.

"Uhm... I haven't met other students of Slytherin before", he went on talking, "I'm really happy to finally meet another Slytherin." With every word Seth said he began to feel more comfortable. This isn't too difficult, he thought, maybe I can get used to it.
Actually, Seth was kind of proud that he answered correctly. Sure, he knew how to start and how to have a conversation but talking with totaly strangers was really new to him. Seth's mother used to ban strangers in her family, even if they wanted to be friends with Seth. His father was not happy with it, but did not do anything to change it.
I'm allowed to make friends,Seth thought angry, my mother can't change it.

Amy wasn't deterred when the boy took a step back, and she did so herself to to give him more space. If he was shy, she understood. She remembered her first days here at Hogwarts, and it made her internally shiver at how much of a mess she had been. Had it not been for Lycan and Opeila, she probably would've been ALOT worse.

Beaming then the boy introduced himself as Seth, she nodded once and turned her head to watch a cloud before turning back to him. "Nice to meet you formally this time" She giggled and listened intently to what he had to say next. Cool! So I'm the first Slytherin he's met so far? That's pretty awesome, I should probably make a good impression then. Amy thought before running a hand through her curls.

Her eyes fleeted to look at their surroundings, a nervous habit she had before she began to speak again. "Well Seth, I'm happy to meet you too, and I'm glad I'm the first you've met in our house. Everybody is pretty cool here, I've really only had a problem with one.... she trailed off deep in thought for a few seconds before continuing where she left off. "However, if you surround yourself with friends then you really have nothing to worry about. You know what? What you need is a bestie" The eleven year old laughed and pointed to herself then back to him.

"Luckily for you, I need one too. What do you say? Besties?"

The way Amy talked made Seth smile again. This time, for sure, it was a real smile. Amy had something new that Seth had not known until now, something that made him feel a little bit more comfortable and probably calm, too. But still, Seth had a few sorrows. Besties? What would that mean? He only knew that his mother had a best friend. She only drank tea with her and giggled at some muggle-jokes. But Seth was not a boy that giggled.

He ran a hand through his blonde, wavy hair and looked in the sky. Thank you, mother. Only because of you I am this inexperienced. Seth sighted as he remembered that he thought of his mother again. He should stop this bad habit soon. He was a - kind of - free boy now.

"Uhm..." Seth looked at Amy and was not sure what to say. "You mean... Best friends?" He asked tentatively. Shortly after he had asked this question, he had a new thought. Maybe this isn't too bad. I mean... Why not? Amy seemed to be a nice girl.

Before the girl answered, Seth shruged his shoulders. "Why not? I think that would be cool - if you don't mind that I can be a little bit crazy. At least that's what the other people say." Seth laughted, a friendly and kind of warm sound.

Amy watched Seth as he gave her a genuine smile, and smiled back. Making friends had never been hard for her, it was af if she carried this... vibe around herself. Many times she found herself making new friends in even the most unusual of situations, but this wasn't one of them. A large flat rock, a sitting rock as her mother would've called it, sat to the left of her and Amy moved to sit on it, cocking her head to the side when Seth began to speak.

Does he not know what besties are? she thought and studied him, only breaking into a large grin when he spoke again. "A best friend indeed." she giggled at his laughter, it made her all the more comfortable to be speaking to him. She raised her pinky and pointed towards him, saying "We have to make a pinky promise that we'll stay best friends" she paused and thought back to how he acted when she said besties. Did he know at least how to pinky promise?

Letting out a small laugh, she blew her hair out of her face and said to her new "bestie". "I can show you how if you'd like"

Seth was glad that Amy laughted, too. He watched her as she laughted and allowed his body to realx a little. Immediately, he looked younger, much more like an eleven year old boy, and he also looked more casual. Seth felt a difference, too. Except the relaxation, he felt more free.

When Amy asked him to make a pinky promise, Seth raised his eyebrows. He never heard of that. It was conspicuous that Seth was ashamed because he nearly knew nothing. Probably he would blame his mother or even his father again, but he had promised himself that he stopped thinking of them.

Seth blushed and looked down to his feet for a few seconds. "Can you please show me what a pinky promise is?", asked Seth with a convulsive grin. "You know, I never had best friends or something like that." He hemmed. "Wow, that sounds really ... sad. I'm sorry." Laughing about his own words, Seth shooked his head. The "good" first impression - like his mother always said - was probably gone. But Seth noticed that he did not care at all. It surprised himself but he was too glad that he had found a new friend, so Seth did not thought about that further.

Amy watched as Seth raised his eyebrows, and she stared back at him in confusion, a small grin tainting her confused expression. Not only was the boy new to Hogwarts, he was new to friendships as well, but she knew once he got passed his...confusion he'd more the perfect best friend, and to this she grinned. He made a face when she asked about the pinky promise and she dropped her hand, deflated, only for him to tell her he didn't know how. Immediately she was back smiling , and she nodded before approaching the boy her age.

"First you stick out your pinky, like this" she stuck her out and then grabbed his hand, fixing his fingers to where his pinky was sticking out. "Then we lock pinkies, like this" She intertwined their fingers and raised them so he could. "And then you make a promise. You could say 'I, Seth Reed, promise to stay a loyal best friend no matter what. I'll start so you get an idea of what to say. "I, Amy Hayes, promise that right or wrong, first year, second year, third or fourth, will continue being your best friend until the end of time." She grinned up at him and waited for his promise.

Seth grinned as he watched their intertwined pinkies, although he was surprised at the body contact. Anyway, Seth looked up and grinned wider as Amy promised him to be his best friend until the end of time. Indeed, Seth was touched and in his eyes was a sparkle of joyand blessedness.

"I, Seth Reed, promise to stay a loyal best friend, no matter what happens, what other people say or what they want me to do", Seth said with a smile. It was the first time Seth promised something to somebody who was not a part of his family and it felt right. Amy is not somebody anymore, Seth thought immediately, she is my best friend now. Promises to her are not special anymore. It still felt a little bit unfamiliar, but Seth was sure that he would enjoy this new friendship. Amy seemed to have the kind of vitality Seth still needed. Of course, Seth smiled and laughted a lot but most of the time he only did this because he did not know what to do.

Seth waited a few seconds and just smiled, then he pulled his hand back. "Thank you for teaching me this", he said.

Amy beamed. She not only had her first boy best friend, but also made him smile. She listened intently as he said his promise, and she kept their pinkies intertwined before allowing hers to drop after his, murmuring a small 'you're welcome'. A shiver went through her small frame and she blew out into the air, looking towards the sky. The clouds were barely moving now, and she couldn't really make out exactly what the looked like. Bummer.

"You know," Amy said as she sat back down on her make shift rock seat. "My dad and I used to watch the clouds and count the stars all the time. My mouth and I didn't particularly get along, I also thought she was against me for some reason" she trailed off deep in thought. It was true. Her and her mother never really got along. She began to speak again. "But when the clouds stopped moving like they are now my dad would point up there, and say 'Amy, what does that one look like?'. I miss him, because we won't be able to do that anymore but, now that I have you, we can cloud watch anytime right?" she looked towards Seth and smiled happily.
