She has a book for everything...

Hogwarts' Library
Isabella Bernard stepped into the library just as the last bit of sunlight poured through the tall windows. The air smelled like old paper and ink. One of her favorite smells in the world. She looked around, her eyes wide with excitement. After her last class, she hadd headed back to her dorm to change. She changed into a dark blue shirt whose sleeves were rolled up paired with long white pants. She had put her hair in a bun that looked a bit messy but was decent enough. Even though she was tired, the idea of working on a project in a giant, magical library was kind of awesome.

She spotted an empty table near the middle of the room and walked over, setting her tote bag down with a soft thump. It was full of colorful pens, sticky notes, and few of her other textbooks. She glanced at the list again. Isabella Bernard, Rosaline Everhart, Frederick Buckley, Leo Noxley, and Theodore Ashbourne. She hadn’t met any of them before, but honestly, that just made her more excited. New faces meant new chances to make friends.

With a small smile, Isabella stood up and wandered over to one of the tall shelves. She ran her fingers along the book spines until she found one titled A Beginner’s Guide to Goblin Rebellions. She carefully pulled it out and carried it back to the table.

Opening the book, she settled into her chair and began reading, her fingers tapping lightly on the pages. She underlined a few sentences and stuck a note in the margins. Every so often, she looked up at the entrance, wondering what her group members would be like. She was nervous but mostly excited. Today could be the start of something really fun.

Leo had quickly gone back to his dorm room to change into a dark blue sweater and black pants and tossed a black and white beanie on his head. Today he was set to meet with his group mates to work on their project for History of Magic class so he wanted to wear something comfortable to study and work in. In the last month he had quickly become a regular at the library with his frequent trips to study, write and read. He was less excited to be there for a group project however since he was not the most outgoing person and got more shy around people he didn’t know. The only group member he knew was Rosaline so he was grateful to have at least one friendly face there and hopefully that would make him feel a little more relaxed throughout the whole process. He knew he had seen the others in class but he hadn’t gone out of his way to talk to them before.

When he arrived at the library, he looked around the room, fixing his bangs as he tried to find the others he would be meeting. His eyes finally found a somewhat familiar face sitting at a table in the middle. He was pretty sure it was one of the girls he had been put in the group with so he slowly made his way over to where she was. Leo stood on the opposite side of the table as her and waved shyly, “Hi, you’re here to work on the group project right? I’m Leo.” He introduced himself and looked down at the table where she had set out colorful pens, sticky notes and books. She came very prepared, that’s good. He thought to himself as he took a seat and put his textbook down, placing his notebook on top of it. Leo opened up his notebook to one of the sections they would need and noticed the girl had already been doing some work before he got there. “Is there any other books we need for the project? I can go grab them while we wait for the others.” He offered, trying to make friendly conversation with the girl.

Isabella looked up when she noticed someone approaching the table and recognized him from class. It took her a second to remember his name, but when he gave a shy wave and introduced himself, she nodded quickly, relieved that someone else from the group had finally arrived. “Hi, yeah.” she said, giving him a small smile as he sat across from her. She had seen him in History of Magic before. Quiet, usually sitting near the window but they’d never spoken until now.

He placed his notebook on top of his textbook, and she noticed how tidy everything looked. That was a good sign. Group projects could be unpredictable, but maybe this one wouldn’t be so bad. She had already pulled a few books from the nearby shelf and had been jotting down ideas while she waited. When he asked if there were any other books they needed, she glanced at the small stack beside her.

Maybe something on early magical civilizations.” she said, looking up at him again. “I think the reference section has a few we could use.” She moved her notes aside slightly so he’d have more space. As he flipped open his notebook, she picked up one of her pens again, trying to stay focused while they waited for the others.

Frederick pushed open the heavy library doors with both hands, the polished wood creaking faintly as if scolding him for the lack of subtlety. He winced at the sound, though it was far too late to pretend it hadn’t been him. The scent of parchment, ink, and old dust hit him almost immediately, wrapping around him in a way that was both calming and intimidating. He had never been much of a “library boy,” but even he couldn’t deny that there was something awe-inspiring about the endless rows of shelves stretching higher than his imagination could reach.

He spotted the long tables scattered beneath the shafts of fading sunlight and scanned them quickly, searching for familiar faces. His schoolbag sagged at his side, stuffed with textbooks and a few Chocolate Frog wrappers he hadn’t remembered to throw away. Pushing a stubborn lock of brown hair out of his eyes, Frederick finally noticed two figures settled at a table near the center: Isabella, who seemed to be surrounded by an army of colorful pens and sticky notes, and Leo, whose neat notebooks looked like it had been measured with a ruler.

“Right,” he muttered under his breath, trying to muster confidence as he strode toward them. His trainers squeaked faintly against the stone floor, and when he reached the table, he dropped his bag with a soft thump that felt louder than it should. “Evening,” he said, his voice pitched somewhere between casual and too formal. “Hope I’m not too late. Got sidetracked by Peeves… he thought my ink bottle made a better missile than I did.” Frederick offered them both a grin, half sheepish, half amused.

Sliding into an empty chair, he leaned forward on the table with his elbows, curiosity sparkling in his bright blue eyes. “I’m Frederick, Fred, if you like. Gryffindor,” he added quickly, glancing at Isabella before turning to Leo. “And you’re Isabella, right? And… Leo?” He tilted his head slightly, as if making sure he had gotten the names right.

“So, History of Magic,” he continued in a lighter tone, his grin lingering. “I’ve been revising, I promise. Though, if the professor gives us another two-hour lecture on goblin uprisings, I might just start snoring mid-sentence.” He chuckled lightly, hoping to break the ice, his gaze flicking between Isabella’s organized notes and Leo’s immaculate handwriting. “Have you two already started on something? Tell me where I can jump in, I’m ready to help.”

After class, Rosaline needed to work on her History of Magic group project at the library. She felt comfortable in this group because she had met some of the members before. And she was happy to meet new people as well. She had gone back to her dorm and changed her clothes, wearing a brown-and-green striped polo shirt and a pair of straight-cut jeans with a belt. She liked wearing something cozy whenever she studied.

The door of the library was heavy and solemn, standing like a guardian at its entrance. From outside, she could catch the fragrance of old books and ink, which was one of the many reasons she loved the place. This was her favorite place at Hogwarts. She had spent so much time studying and reading here, so it was a go-to place for her when she was bored.

She pushed the door with both hands and went in. Her footsteps made a soft sound on the carpet. As she made her way inside, she noticed her group project mates were already there, so she hurried over. There were Leo and Frederick, whom she already knew. They were sweet and nice people. There was a blonde girl sitting there, and Rosaline assumed the girl must be Isabella from the class. Rosaline hadn’t known the girl very well, but she had seen her in the common room and in class for a bit.

When she approached them, they seemed to be making progress on the project. Colorful pens and notebooks lay scattered across the table. She waved gently and greeted them, “Hello guys, sorry if I’m a little late.” Her smile was sheepish, and she flushed a little. She hadn’t noticed the time and assumed she must have arrived last. She composed herself, putting down her bag on the empty chair. It gave a faint clink as her stationery and books clicked inside. She turned to the girl and said warmly, “I guess you are Isabella, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Rosaline.”

Rosaline sat on the chair next to her bag, taking her stationery out and placing it neatly on the table. There were bottles of colorful ink, a notebook, a textbook, and some highlighters. She always brought too many things to study. Glancing at the table, she noticed some of the required books already there, with Isabella taking notes from them. She asked, “How’s the project been going? I can go fetch books or take notes from the materials we have here.” Tilting her head slightly, she opened her notebook and textbook to the page she needed.

Isabella looked up from her notes with a smile as Rosaline sat down beside her. Since her blonde hair was pulled back into a loose bun, a few strands fell into her face as she gently pushed them aside. “Hi, Rosaline! You got it right. I'm Isabella!” she said warmly. “Nice to officially meet you.

She gestured toward the other side of the table. “Frederick got here just a few minutes ago. He and Leo were already talking about which books we still need. They offered to help grab more from the shelves if we’re missing anything.

Isabella glanced down at her open notebook, flipping back a page. “We’ve started putting together notes for the Goblin Rebellions. There’s just so much to cover! Different uprisings, dates, goblin leaders, and the wizarding responses. I’ve been trying to lay it all out in a timeline, but I think we could use a few more sources to cross-check some of the events.

She looked between Frederick, Leo and Rosaline with a thoughtful smile. “Since we’ve got quite a few people now, maybe we can divide things up? I was thinking one of us could handle the timeline, another could focus on key figures like Emeric the Evil and Ragnuk the First, and someone else could look into how the rebellions changed magical law over time!

She grinned a little and nodded at Rosaline’s perfectly organized supplies. “And with your collection of highlighters combined with mine, I feel like we’re ready for everything! Except the fact that we're missing a member.” Isabella added with a giggle.

Leo listened as the girl suggested a book and he quickly went off to go find one. He looked around the bookshelves until he found one he thought would be good for their project and brought it back to the table. After sitting down one of their other group members arrived, this time a Gryffindor boy who introduced himself as Frederick. Leo couldn’t help but laugh a little at the story of why he was late to their meeting. When he looked towards him, Leo nodded his head and gave the boy a friendly smile, “Yes, that’s right.”

Leo looked over his notes again as he listened to the boy talk, he certainly seemed like the outgoing, friendly type, unlike himself who was more on the quiet and shy side. As Frederick asked what they were working on, Leo went to speak up about what they had going on so far until he heard a familiar voice. He looked up and saw Rosaline standing there as she just arrived and couldn’t fight the smile that showed up on his face. Being that she was the only member of the group he knew was comforting but he also was feeling a little shy and nervous again now that she was here. After their outing the other day together he was definitely feeling a little fluttering in his stomach seeing her again. Despite that he managed to wave a little at her as she sat down across the table. “Hi, Rosa.” He said softly to her before the other girl, Isabella, chimed in to explain where we were at so far.

As he did his best to stay calm to avoid any potential accidental changes, he brushed his bangs down more and tried to keep his face down for the moment to avoid anyone seeing his cheeks turn a light pink. He looked through his notes from history class as she listed off the possible ways they could split things up between them, confident he could probably help with whatever was needed anyway. “I can help with the timeline, if that’s okay?” He cleared his throat and said to them before flipping to a fresh page in his notebook so that he could write everything out for it. He pointed to one of the highlighters the girls had laid out on the table and looked between the two of them, “Could I borrow this one to use?”

Frederick brightened when the familiar figure of Rosaline slipped into the library, her striped polo and calm smile making her instantly recognizable. Of course, he had known she would be there, they were in the same study group after all, but it still felt reassuring to see a face he’d already shared a few Hogwarts misadventures with. As she came closer, Fred’s grin widened. “Well, look at that,” he teased, lowering his voice just enough for it to feel like a private joke, “someone’s always late for History of Magic.” Then, before she could protest, he added with a laugh, “I’m only kidding, I just got here myself.”

As she settled in, arranging her collection of ink bottles and highlighters with a kind of precision Fred could never hope to match, he glanced at Isabella’s rainbow of sticky notes and Leo’s meticulous notebook. For a moment, he looked down at his own measly supplies, just a quill, an ink bottle, and a roll of parchment pulled from the depths of his bag. He huffed a small laugh under his breath. Trust him to show up to a group project under-armed, while everyone else looked ready to launch a full-scale academic siege.

Leo’s soft offer to take the timeline drew Fred’s attention, and he gave the boy an approving nod. It seemed like the kind of meticulous work Fred would actually not enjoy. Fred himself wasn’t about to volunteer for hours of date-checking. “Figures and law, huh?” he said after a beat, drumming his fingers against the tabletop. “I don’t mind digging into the characters. Emeric the Evil, Ragnuk the First… names like that sound like they belong in a storybook anyway."

With that, he pulled his bag closer and tugged out his parchment, quill, and ink, sliding a hefty volume on goblins toward himself. The cover gave a little creak as he opened it, and Fred shifted in his chair, settling in as he angled the book so anyone sitting nearby could read along if they wanted. Dipping his quill into the ink, he scribbled “Goblins – Key Figures” across the top of the page, his handwriting a little slanted but eager. Then, with a small breath, he lifted his gaze once more, glancing at everyone present, before returning to the book. “Alright then, let’s see what sort of trouble you lot stirred up.”

Her group mates didn’t think Rosaline had been too late and were delighted to see her. She breathed a silent sigh of relief. Isabella was nice and complimented her supplies. She smiled at Isabella warmly and responded, “I like your colorful pens too; they must be super helpful later when we take notes.” She glanced at the ink bottles she had brought to the table, which were red, black, and blue. These were the colors she liked to use when she studied. The method was quite efficient and simple; the black ink was for the basic information, the blue was for the important knowledge, and the red was for the keywords. It was a habit that she had developed since her days in Muggle school. She liked her notes and study routine to be clean and neat.

Frederick’s teasing made her giggle, and she said, “What a coincidence that you and I end up together because of the same class again.” She was glad Frederick was here; she thought they were getting along, based on the few times they had met before.

Leo greeted her as well. Rosaline gave him a bright smile. “Hey, Leo! It’s nice to see you.” He seemed a little shy. She didn’t know why at first, then she remembered that they had gone for a picnic on the grounds a few days ago. Her cheeks flushed a rosy pink when she recalled it. To disguise her little flustered moment, lest others find out and make the situation awkward, she grabbed her quill and opened the black inkwell. Dipping it in, she quickly wrote down the theme of their group project in her notebook to make it seem like she was occupied.

When Isabella suggested that they could divide the workload, Rosaline agreed. The change of subject helped her relax more. Leo took the task making the timeline, and Frederick went with the figures, which left Rosaline with the law section. She nodded and said, “I’m okay with any work. Then I think I can organize notes for the magical law.”

Leo asked if he could borrow her ink, and she responded, “Of course.” She pushed the inkwell a little closer to Leo’s side and smiled warmly. Frederick pulled out his parchment and told a joke. She chuckled at his words. “I’m excited to find out what they did back then,” she said. Looking at the pile of books on the table, she selected one with “Law” in its title and opened it.

Isabella nodded as Rosaline spoke, flipping open her own notebook. “Sounds good. I think we’ve got a solid setup now. Magical law’s probably the trickiest part, so it’s great you’re handling that.

She uncapped one of her pens, glancing at Rosaline’s inkwells. “By the way, I really like how you’ve got your inks organized. That color system? It seems super practical!” She gave a small, genuine smile. “I might try it myself. My notes tend to get messy when I’m rushing. I can either have the neatest handwriting or the worst. I think it depends on both my mood and how much time I have left to get the job done.

As the others got to work, Isabella glanced sideways, catching the slight pink in Rosaline’s cheeks. She didn’t say anything right away, but after a pause, she leaned in just a little and said under her breath, “That picnic with Leo the other day. I noticed it when I was passing by. It looked...quite cozy.

Her tone was casual, not teasing, more like an observation. “He seems alright.” Then she sat back and reached for a textbook. “Anyways, let’s get through this reading before Frederick starts reenacting historical figures again.” She teased gently.
