Goodbye's and Hello's FINISHED

After biding her family farewell, Amy used a sleeve to wipe her tear stained face before boarding the train. As she walked down the crowded isles, she felt like a hole that grew bigger and bigger the further she walked away was going to swallow her whole. She couldn't fathom leaving her family behind, and debated turning around, but the train made a low groan on it's rails as if it were beginning to leave, and she knew it was too late.

A wagon nestled in the back was completely empty, and Amy let out a relieved sigh. Her book bag fell off her shoulder and her suitcase rolled into the wagon as she sat down, tears welling up in her eyes again as she watched her family get smaller and smaller until they'd almost completely disappeared. She rose her knees up to her chest and laid her cheek on them, wrapping her arms around her legs and staring out the window. It was beautiful indeed. Lush trees and vegetation zipped by as the train passed them and she smiled faintly at a pair of birds dancing around each other in the sky. Well at least someones happy She whispered lightly and closed her eyes. The crowded isle and wagons around her were loud with laughter and excitement, it seemed as if everyone but her was happy about attending Hogwarts. While Amy was a pureblood, she was new to this whole magical world. New worries and fears formed in her mind and she opened her eyes again as a tear strolled down her cheek, the train bringing her closer and closer to an unknown fate.

Lycan gave his parents a hug, and his mother kissed him on his cheek. They all smiled at each other and he gathered his things and headed towards the train that was taking him to the next step in his life. He was going to miss them, and his pets at home, but still he was excited about the new places to see, people to meet and friends to make. It was truly a bittersweet moment. He went up the steps onto the train. Turning to wave at his parents one last time before heading onto the train.
He looked around at all the full wagons, hearing the laughter and conversations of people that already seemed to be getting along and making new friends. He whistled on his way to search for an empty or at least less full wagon. He finally found one at the back of the train that only had one girl inside of it. She seemed to be very upset though, as he saw tears fall from her face. Lycan frowned, and he opened the door going inside the cart and he smiled at the girl.
"Heyo. You seem to be having a very bad day. I'm sorry." He said as he reached in his pocket pulling out a handkerchief. He sat across from her and held the cloth out to her. "Take it. Seems you need it more than I do. I'm Lycan Grey by the way. What's your name?" he asked and he waited for her response.

Soft Whistling could be heard drifting down the isles and Amy wondered how on earth someone could be so happy, though she was only saddened by the thought of leaving her family behind she doubted she was the only one slightly upset. The whistling came to a stop right outside her wagon, and she closed her eyes as if pretending she wasn't crying earlier. Her efforts were in vain.

"Heyo. You seem to be having a very bad day. I'm sorry." a voice said from the the other seat and Amy turned her head to look into the eyes of a small boy. His hair was laid down nicely on his head, and his eyes held genuine emotion, like he wasn't teasing her for crying but was actually concerned. Her eyes followed his movements and she watched as he took a handkerchief out of his pocket. She looked at it in confusion. Was he hot?

"Take it. Seems you need it more than I do. I'm Lycan Grey by the way. What's your name?" The boy said and handed the piece of cloth to her, to which she took hesitantly. A small hiccup passed her mouth and she grinned faintly, before wiping her eyes and speaking.

"My names Amy Hayes. Your last name sounds a bit like mines. She cocked her head to the side and sat back. Studying him. " Thank you for the uh, handkerchief. You carry these around?

Lycan waited for the girl to look at him. When she finally turned her greenish eyes towards him he smiled warmly. She stared at the handkerchief in confusion and he raised a dark eyebrow at her. He offered her the cloth and she took it, hesitantly, ut she took it. A small hiccup passed her lips. Under different circumstances that would have been cute. Poor girl. he thought to himself and she grinned at him. He smiled and leaned back in the seat.Looks like I could make a friend right now. he bit his lip thinking about what to say, but she eased his troubled mind when she spoke instead.
"My name's Amy Hayes. Your last name sounds a bit like mines. Thank you for the uh, handkerchief. You carry these around?" she replied as she too sat back. Lycan smiled and nodded to the first part, but then scratched the back of his neck. "Yes it sort of does huh? Nice to meet you Amy. But to be honest I dont really carry them with me... My dad is kind of an old soul. Pretty sure he was a knight in his past life or something... But anyways he's the one that made me carry that one. If we become friends, and you get sad again, maybe I should get a few. You'd never have to worry about tissues with me." Lycan shrugged as he spoke. It was an attempt at a joke to cheer her up, he hoped she'd see it that way.
He bit his lip again as he scratched his neck "Umm... You know... Not that I know much of anything, but it isn't all bad. I mean, being away from your parents is sad but it's bittersweet isn't it? You can contact them anytime you wanted to and we go home for holidays and breaks and stuff. Not to mention there are a lot of people you can meet. Get yourself a pet to keep in your dorm, make friends and stuff? I'm not helping much am I? Sorry, Amy." he said, although he facepalmed himself.

Amy watched as the boy scratched the back of his neck. She seemed to have made him a bit shy, and she felt more comfortable talking to him since he seemed to be the only one who genuinely cared about her crying. I mean yeah, people patted her on the back as she walked by to get to her wagon but as for actually attempting to comfort her? He was the first, and by the smiles he kept gifting her, she determined he was quickly becoming her first friend. Lucan spoke in that moment, and she listened intently.

You'd never have to worry about tissues with me.". At his attempt to joke, Amy actually laughed. It was extremely funny, but the way he'd joked and then second guessed himself was quite adorable. She grinned and hiccuped again, saying "Well consider yourself a friend"

The boy began to talk again, and the smile almost faded from her face. "Umm... Sorry, Amy." he said, and Amy realized he was right. Taking her fingers to wipe under her eyes, and looked up at him and nodded.

"You're right. I guess I was just sad because it'll be the first time being away from them. I thought I'd be alone" She paused, and pointed to him smirking. "But now I have you, handkerchief boy". Genuine laughter escaped her mouth once more and it was as if he'd made her forgot about all her worries. He was a friend indeed.

Amy actually laughed at his joke and he smiled in relief. He was happy that it worked. "Well consider yourself a friend." Amy said after laughing and Lycan grinned. "Wonderful. We have to get sorted though. Feel like making a promise? Like, same house or different houses, we will still be friends? Don't really wanna be like those friends that are friends until they're sorted differently." Lycan said quietly and shrugged. When her smile faded Lycan got concerned. Barely got a friend and already it seems he might've said the wrong thing.
But to his surprise she simply wiped her eyes and nodded before speaking. "You're right. I guess I was just sad because it'll be the first time being away from them. I thought I'd be alone... But now I have you, handkerchief boy." Lycan listened to her, nodding all she said. But then he heard his nickname and he arched his dark eyebrow once more. " 'Handkerchief boy'? I have been nothing but nice and that is the nickname I get saddled with my first year? I'm wounded." he feigned offense, putting a hand over his heart, but there was a playful tone to his voice to hint that he was just playing with her. He smiled at her. "So, Amy, tell me some things about yourself. Simple stuff like where you're from, favorite color or animal and things like that. he asked, and he continued to make eye contact with her.

"Wonderful. We have to get sorted though. Feel like making a promise? Like, same house or different houses, we will still be friends? Don't really wanna be like those friends that are friends until they're sorted differently." Amy cocked her head to the side once more and watched as Lycan's face dropped into a bit of sadness. Staring over him for a few seconds longer, she grinned and stood up, shorter then him but still determined. Nearing him now, she grabbed his hand and intertwined their pinkies, saying

"I, Amy Hayes promise that no matter what, same house or different house, I'll still be your bestest friend" She raised her thumb up to her mouth and kissed it, before dropping their hands and stepping back. His next words made her laugh out loud.

"'Handkerchief boy'? I have been nothing but nice and that is the nickname I get saddled with my first year? I'm wounded." he put a hand over his heart, and she knew he was playing from the way he smiled.

"The first think you did upon meeting me is gave me a handkerchief . And then you promised if we stay friends you'll start carrying them around. When we graduate from Hogwarts, I'll say ' remember the handkerchiefs' and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about 7 years from today" She giggled matter of factly and listened to him speak again.

"So, Amy, tell me some things about yourself. Simple stuff like where you're from, favorite color or animal and things like that." her friend said and so she began to tell him.

"Well, I'm eleven years old. I was born in Burnhope England, to a family of pureblood meaning I of course, am one. My favorite color is green, it matches my eyes, and my favorite animal is the owl. I want to buy one you know? An arctic owl to have by my side, if not, I'll buy a fluffy white or silvery cat. I have two brothers, and you, Lycan, are my first real friend" she beamed.

Amy grinned and Lycan looked at her, slightly tilting his head as she stood up and moved to him. She linked their pinkies and said, I, Amy Hayes promise that no matter what, same house or different house, I'll still be your bestest friend He smiled and laughed quietly. Then he nodded keeping their pinkies linked, "And I, Lycan Grey, promise the exact same thing." The next thing he said was just making fun of his own nickname, and once again he caused her to laugh, and he smiled in response.
"The first think you did upon meeting me is gave me a handkerchief . And then you promised if we stay friends you'll start carrying them around. When we graduate from Hogwarts, I'll say ' remember the handkerchiefs' and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about 7 years from today." she replied and he chuckled in response. "Point made." he said while nodding.
Next he inquired about general information on his newfound friend. I have two brothers, and you, Lycan, are my first real friend." she answered him, and he nodded as he listened to her.
"Hm... Seems we have a decent amount on common, Amy. I'm also 11 and from England, but it's Devon not Burnhope. As far as pets go, that is exactly the same owl or cat I was looking into. he chuckled lowly. Then he looked at her and smiled. "I'm glad we are friends, and it's pretty cool that I'm the first 'real' one. I'll do my best to not disappoint. he added as he moved to sit beside her, and then he linked their pinkies again, in a silent promise with a genuine smile.
