rookline hurried around the castle, stiffly, as she would chew at her nails, nervously. She could barely hear the shhhh, shhh, swisshh, of her dark Jeans. and her blue eyes remained guarded. A shaky feeling began to rise in her chest, and her heart beat faster. Wasn’t this, like, the fourth time she’d lost that dang cat?

The Welsh girl had returned to Ravenclaw tower, after the day’s classes, with zero sign of Tigeress. She looked around for Dove, her roommate Ophelia’s kitten, but the dorm’s door had been shut closed, and Dove being somewhere else with Ophelia. Brookline instantly panicked, and chose a simpler outfit then robes to run around Hogwarts, searching for her beloved kitten. A light purple shirt with flowy sleeves and black Jeans. That’ll do, she finalized. She didn’t do anything to her hair. She had put in a not-so-dashing messy bun that dreadful morning, and it had called out, making her hair appear very messy and frazzled. In some placed her natural curls were just wavy bits of her hair, and since she had not brushed her hair in a very long while, her hair looked kinda burnt in some places.

She then tore apart her trunk, tossing her belongings and items out and around her bed, making sure her kitten was’t inside where she couldn’t see. She flung her neatly made covers off the bed, because she knew Tigeress liked to make nest underneath the warm blankets. Brookline even looked in her laundry as she also knew Tigeress also liked to sleep inside. It was probably nice and cozy. With freshly washed and warm clothes on your coat of fur. Most likely it felt like the yellow rays of the sun shining upon your fur as well.

You damn cat. Why must you always run and hide away. She thought, angry at first. Then she stood up from her clothes, and spun around in a 360 degree circle, flashing around the dorm-room. She suddenly calmed down, but a fresh wave of anxiety washed over her, causing her to be nervous that she’d never see her kitten again.

“Tigeress! Tigeress, where are you, girl?” She’d call, her hand cupped ‘round her mouth, and Brookline then said, “Please. Don’t play hide-and-go-seek with me. That game won’t ever be fun when you hide away. From my sight.”

She left the Ravenclaw tower to be found strolling quickly along the corridors, the Ravenclaw stopped every so often to squat down, and look for paw prints. Who knew? Perhaps Tigeress went out in the gardens and came back in and tracked fifty tracks from the dirt in... No luck, no paw prints on the polished floor. Would she go that desperate to put up posters like she heard Muggles do in the Muggle world? No, she said in her head, She’ll come around. She always does. Right...?

Brookline ducked into a empty classroom, to look along the desks, in front of the desks, behind the desks, underneath the desk, to the side of the desks. And look in the corners of the classroom. She continued in the other classrooms, exclaiming, “Tigeress, hey, girl! Where are you? Tigeress!” And she groaned every time she was caught up with a dead end, no Tigeress. It reminded her of the race, early May. She was stuck in the maze, along with Aurora, and she remembered all the dizzy dead ends all around her. She had thought she’d never get out.

Fingers shaking, Brookline found herself in the Outdoor Club. Tigeress showed her explicit express in the gardens and the girl always thought they were her kitten’s favorite place. Her dark blue eyes would look below the bushes and she looked below, pushing scratchy and thorny branches aside. A thorn slipped against her finger, and blood dripped down from the wound. “Ouch! That hurt!” She voiced her complaint, her finger stinging with pain, and her pale lips mended into a sour frown. She pinched her finger, to clot the blood, and continued on her trek to find safe Tigeress, if that even counted as saving. Perhaps the tabby did not want to be found.

Well, she better want to be found. Because - because, I’m scared... Brookline thought, clutching her other hand.

Oh, so you finally admit it. You’re scared, A echoing taunt curled next her ear, and Brookline huffed. She hated the voices. They were always so annoying, and they wouldn’t ever stop. This was so annoying. Her searching for Tigeress is so annoying. Why wouldn’t anything be normal?

She sighed. Nothing could be normal. Everything happy has be erased away by him, and nothing could ever change that, she thought, Nothing. My father was cruel, and took away all my happy. And it’s all my fault.

She knew when her father ran away during Easter holiday, he had said it wasn’t her fault but perhaps he just wanted it to appear that way. Of course it was her fault that he ran away the second time. She wanted him to stay, and come inside, and she said she loved him. She wasn’t masking her sadness. That was the problem. She wasn’t on guard that sad day.

Brookline now found herself sitting on a wooden bench, the blood from her finger still not resolved. It just kept bleeding. And she just kept applying pressure til the bleeding was resolved. Shit, this is a pretty bad cut. That thorn was something, she thought, and winced, pain and anxiety swimming around in the dark watery depths of her deep blue irises.

She hoped Tigeress would race out now, and her tigeress-ish blur would be what would lift the young Quinn’s spirits, and her in a better mood for the rest of the day.

Her kitten didn’t and Brookline was ready to call off her personal, little search party, to take a little nap in her dorm-room (if she could), and simply wait for Tigeress to show up.

Just a little bit longer. The girl told herself, and her attention was fixed on the scenery around her, as if she was admiring the wonders around her. But, atlas, her lips was pressed into a scared, firm line, obviously pointing out her pushed annoyance, and sharp pain. And in her eyes, highlighted all the anxiety, all the sorrow, all the fear shining throughout the ocean color. This was probably longest Tigeress had even been missing, and Brookline was getting more than borderline scared. No, Tigeress must be hurt, or something much worst.

Sera wanders through the halls, a passive expression on her face, at least until she passes by a few people-- then she's all smiles, straightened posture, and greeting them with a polite tilt of her head. The motions that she's used to after attending so many of her mothers charity galas and hosting her fathers clients at home. As soon as they round the corner or move several meters away from her, she lets out a long sigh.

Really, it's not so bad here. There are less... expectations, from her family, but more expectations from-- people she doesn't know at all. She doesn't know what anyone here wants from her, other than do excel academically. She purses her lips together. Ravenclaw house. Sure, she's heard about the houses from her father, but not a lot. Exceling academically was never a problem for her, so obviously, she's doing fine, but is fine enough?

She sighs again. She doesn't know. Sera's eyes narrow as she hears something clobbering around another corner, and instantly her back straightens, her eyes brighten, and she feigns a smile for another person she doesn't know and likely will never know. The clobbering becomes louder and louder, and as she listens to it more intently, that doesn't sound like a...person. There appear to be four footsteps-- no. Paw steps. Sera gasps as a gorgeous tabby cat leaps straight at her, nearly knocking her off balance. She stabilizes her legs onto the ground, surprised that she's made it to the castle gardens (when did that happen?), as it begins to paw at her leggings, greeting her with excited chirps and meows.

Stress bleeds out of her like magic. "Oh, you are ever so gorgeous," she croons to the cat, her hands unable to help petting the sweet thing. "You're lovely. Where did you come from?" She continues to croon. The cat bumps its head against her palm and meows again, a trill that melts her heart. She kneels to its level so she can run her hand through its beautiful, soft fur. Though the cat won't understand her, she continues talking to it as though it were a human, capable of holding a conversation with her. Although maybe it's a good thing the cat isn't a human. Otherwise she wouldn't feel comfortable at all, being so open and vulnerable around it.

She shakes her head to dispel the thoughts and looks around the garden. She looks back at the cat and peers deeply into its eyes. "You wouldn't appear to have an owner, would you? I can take you back to my dorm, right?" She partially jests, knowing that cats sometimes appear out of nowhere in Hogwarts. And there are these things called animagi... she scrunches her nose. "I really hope you're not just a human disguised as a cat right now," Sera huffs, but her hands don't stop laving the cat with attention.

She seriously contemplates just lifting the cat and bringing it along with her to her dorm room, when she hears a loud yelp from somewhere within the garden. Alright, that's a distinctly human yelp. The cats ears twitch, head swiveling towards the sounds, and something clicks inside Sera's brain. "Could that be your owner?" She wonders, and when the cat doesn't respond (well, that dispels her fear of it being an animagi), she sighs and moves to stand upright. "We should probably check, shouldn't we?"

Sera begins to move slowly towards the noise of distress, hearing the cats paws dig into the grass as it follows by her side. Ah, it's so friggin cute. She'll feel so despondent tearing up from the cat, so part of her hopes that it really isn't the cats owner. But if it is, they must be really worried over losing their precious pet. Sera knows that she would go infinitely crazy if her dog ever went missing one day.

After another minute of walking, she's barely able to make out the silhouette of a young girl with honey blonde hair, sitting on a bench with her head tilted down. Sera looks between her and the tabby cat-- now, think, what is the likeliness that the sweet cat belongs to her? But she didn't need to think for very long; the tabby's legs sent it positively zooming towards the girl on the wooden bench, barely halting for a second in it's pursuit of her. Sera blinks rapidly, then hesitates for a moment. Should she go... approach the girl? Tell her that she's found her cat safe and sound?

Connections, Sera, connections. They'll help you infinitely as you grow older she hears her mothers voice chide. Sera shudders, straightens her posture, and approaches the girl just as the cat bumps by her leg. Sera doesn't notice the expression on the girls face before she strikes up a conversation.

"Hello, there," she smiles, "I found this tabby cat on a walk through the castle, and I'm assuming that she's yours? She's quite a lovely cat, you know. I nearly considered taking her for myself," she laughs lightheartedly, her words a clear jest.

𝓐s the Welsh Ravenclaw unintentionally imagined Tigeress scenarios, she began to regret, having such a witty brain and such a vast imagination. Brookline sighed.

She was becoming more scared and anxious by the very second, and she felt selfish, depressed, nervous and more and more complex. All the emotions she had spun up, and tangled together and twisted quick in a huge nature disaster.

Brookline started picking at her already short cuticles, and then starting pulling at her ear lobe. She rubbed her Jeaned thighs, and then started biting her thin lips. Old nervous habits and new ones, as the vital organ in her rib cage battled with the ivory bars, and tried it's best to get out of its white, locked crate.

Her heart felt like a stupid dog.

Okay, wait. Dogs are not stupid. They're actually quite smart, if Brookline could say herself. She had never had a dog but all the books she's read always stated dogs were witty and smart.

Just like her.

Not anymore... This stupid, annoying voice crept up into her ear, bouncing off the ear drum, and echoing, like a little kid pounding on a brass drum with no beat.

Head titled down, mass of brunnete hair swinging in her face, footsteps padded throughout the garden, and Brookline kept her face down, eyes zeroing in on the stone, knowing it'll just be another student, who'll judge her or take pity on her.

Then she heard pawsteps. Pawsteps.

Pawsteps! Which means Tigeress!

Brookline flung her head up, and saw her tabby kitten, using her long legs to race over to the Welsh girl. She gasped, and nearly collapsed to the stone ground, knees colliding with the rocky terrain.

"There you are! You naughty kitten. Tigeress, don't run off again!" She rubbed her hands around her sweet kitten's ears, and then her brown cheeks, and her pink nose. Tigeress mewed, her purr deep and vibrating in her throat.

A voice cut Brookline off, and she cocked her neck back to see a young girl all cheery and sweet as roses yapping up a conversation with her, about her cat, and then the put-together girl laughed gleefully.

Brookline gazed, at the underclassmen with curious and guarded eyes, as the girl seemed all unified, cheerful, and calm. The Welsh girl painted a small smile on her face, she was going to be nice.

Nice. Be nice.

She rubbed Tigeress' ear one more time, wrapped her hands around her kitten's belly, and rose to face this younger girl. She paused, and hesitated before introducing herself.

How the hell can you be nice when you can enough be nice to your father or yourself?

Kindess is better than rudeness.... right??

No, but seriously, how can be you be nice? Are you even classfied as nice?

Are you?

Brookline listened to the whispers and repeated them to herself. So many times that she believed them.

Will she always?

Yes, Brookline thought, breathlessly, because, they are real and I deserve it.

That hesitation only lasted a second but to Brookline, it could have lasted three minutes or even three hours. Those whispers would only grow louder as the Ravenclaw thought of words to say.

Then she did. Finally. Glad her mouth and voice box could take over, she hated it when her brain was in charge. Her brain was always yelling at her, and her brain, eight times of ten, had horrible decisions.

"Hi! Thanks for making sure my Tigeress is safe. She is a lovely cat, thanks for noticing!" Her voice was light, and cool, as her smile was small, and not-so-bright. She gestured to her kitten, who was now climbing up her shoulder, "She can be quite the handful, sometimes."

Anyway.... can we end this conversation soon? New Brookline thought, as she groaned inwardly.

A combination of her mother and Old Brookline raised her voice, No! We're going to be nice! We're being the role model, and not the rude girl.

Be nice.

New Brookline rolled her eyes, inwardly, while Old Brookline went away, hidden, among all the new, heavy sadness. Thought battle between morals, Brookline decided, and chose her New Self. She would conceal, though, and hide her darkest secrets, and be polite in public. But when she was in private, or overwhelmed, she would be cry and point at herself for all the wrong doings.

Brookline continued, Tigeress purring as she spoke, "Anyway.... I'm Brookline Quinn, Ravenclaw, second year. You are....?"

A smile would form on her fair face, and her eyes would harbor a unsharpered sparkle, dry and lifeless.

She would be nice. Nice.

Nice? Kind.

Kind? Friendly.

Friendly? Nice.

Brookline Isabella Quinn would be nice.
