@Yeji Ahn

Airlia was having a good day. A really good day in fact when she didn't spoil her potion in class... That much. Avoided general trouble but still had a fun time with friends and even got to pet a cat that happened to stumble across her path. It had been soft and smooth and had the made the most gentle of meows.

Now she had her back straight, smiling as she walked along one of the corridors. There was a tiny skip in her step as she was on her way to see a friend by the lake.

She was whistling as she walked and quite frankly was the epiphany of a stereotypical happy person in a comic book. All it would take was a meet-cute and they would have the most basic romantic movie in their hands.

Airlia seized when she passed by a window and saw the glistening raindrops hitting the window and making watery paths down it as gravity pulled them. The pearly drops glistened in the light.

Airlia could see this wasn't a bad rain. It was a warm one, those were rare in Finland as everything was usually cold, so during days when the rain was warm and it was sunny at the same time kids would go play in puddles and seeking for a treasure at the end of the rainbow.

A familiar children's chanting anecdote started repeating in her head: "Aurinko paistaa ja vettä sataa hiiret viettää häitä." She mumbled along with the tune as she smiled, even more, excited about going outside into the rain. "The sun is shining and it's raining the mice are having a wedding."

But just then when she twirled around to keep going she slammed right into someone. There was a harsh pressure in her shoulder as she collided with someone and fell on her knees to the ground. She let out a surprised huff and felt a familiar sting in her knee letting her know she'd scraped it.

She looked over her shoulder to see what or who she'd bumped into and saw a girl that instantly looked familiar.

"The true secret of happiness lies in taking a genuine interest in all the details of daily life." Yeji read that phrase in a book somewhere before, but she was very skeptical of the authenticity of the phrase. Despite being in a magic school, the day was extremely boring. There were no details to take interest in; "행복은 지금 당장 얻는 것이 불가능하다.""Happiness is impossible to get right now." thought Yeji.

Herbology was easily the second most boring class that anyone could comprehend; potions would be the first. Yeji just wanted to return to her dorm and take a nice, peaceful, and long nap. It was hard work being such a productive student, a nap was well deserved. Though, the journey back to the Ravenclaw dorms was proving itself to be trouble. Yeji's eyes would occasionally give out and close, but she would snap herself back awake. However, she wasn't able to keep her fatigue in check, and the next time she closed her eyes she was met with a thud.

Yeji's forehead ached and her behind stung from falling onto it. Yeji rubbed her forehead, "아야 아야 아야.""Ouch ouch ouch." she mumbled. She opened her eyes to see that another girl was on the ground as well, and Yeji managed to put two and two together. She immediately got up and offered a hand to the girl; "Very very sorry!" Yeji spoke with a slight Asian accent; it wasn't as bad as when she first arrived at Hogwarts but it was still noticeable.

Airlia took the girl's hand, glad to be offered help, "No, no. It was my fault, I'm sorry. I should have watched where I was going."

Airlia smiled at the girl. She was gorgeous. She had long, healthy-looking shiny brown hair with strands of black blending in nicely. Her skin was so fair it was almost pearlescent. She had dark eyes that were big like an anime character's and she was petite and looked very cute. Like to a point where there should be a doll made to look like her.

There was an accent there, something that was easy to hear, but not to a point where it would bother anyone.

But as Airlia looked the feeling that she'd seen her somewhere only intensified. In fact, it rose to a point where she was sure she'd seen her somewhere outside of Hogwarts. But only... Older... She shook her head slightly and thought that she was being silly.

How could she have seen this girl somewhere only as an adult? She must be remembering someone that just happened to look similar to her.

"I'm Airlia Winter, it's nice to meet you." Airlia offered her hand for the girl to shake while she rubbed her side with the other. There was a strange pain by her ribs and she was sure she would bruise a little from the impact to the ground, but there wasn't enough pain for her to actually worry.

And she had a new friend to make right here in front of her.
After helping the girl up, Yeji couldn't help but notice the girl's stereotypical western appearance: Blondish hair, blueish eyes, and fair skin. She was like a typical princess from a fantasy book. There were plenty of other people in Hogwarts with a similar appearance to the stranger, but hers seemed more refined. Yeji was willing to bet the girl was a pure-blood.

Yeji was a little shocked to hear the name Winter. She has heard the last name many times, mostly being used by her mother. Yeji recalled a time where her mother was reading a letter of some sort: "망할 엘로라 윈터.""Damn that Elora Winter." Yeji would hear her mother mention that name from time to time, usually in a negative light. Whenever Yeji would ask who it was, she was simply told that it was her aunt. She also just recalled her mother mentioning to avoid a girl with the same appearance and last name as Airlia but Yeji didn't really heed those words. For when she first arrived at Hogwarts, she noticed that there were many kids with the exact appearance that was described to her. Yeji was unsure if her mother meant a specific person, or if she meant to avoid everyone with blonde hair and blue eyes; nonetheless, it seemed pointless to her; Yeji wasn't the type to listen to advice. Winter also seemed to be a basic name that could be common in the area, so Yeji figured it wouldn't hurt to ask Airlia if she was related to her supposed 'aunt' Elora. She figured her mother wasn't using the word aunt literally, or it was just an excuse. However, It would be nice to have another close-relationship with someone in Hogwarts.

While shaking Airlia's hand, Yeji introduced herself as well: "Yeji Ahn, first-year Ravenclaw." She placed her arms at her side and noted that the girl seemed to be in minor pain; Yeji felt bad. She then looked back towards the girl, "Do you happen to be related to an Elora Winter?"

When the girl introduced herself Airlia's eyes widened. She instantly knew who she was. This was the one person in all of Hogwarts that she had been told not to speak to. Her mother had forbidden it shortly before she left knowing that the girl was starting her first year at Hogwarts.

Airlia looked the girl up and down. Indeed the appearance was uncanny to what Airlia had recognized her from. There was a picture she'd once seen. A picture of Elora Winter and this girl's mother Kyung Wan Cha standing beside one another and smiling. In said picture they couldn't have been much older than Airlia was now herself but she'd heard the story of that picture from her father.

Elora Winter and Kyung Wan Cha had started as friends but something ripped them apart. After that Elora wouldn't speak her name unless it was to curse the woman out or tell Airlia never to have dealings with said family.

"Elora Winter is my mother." Airlia said, her tone freezing over as she forbade any emotion from appearing across her face. She was a girl who obeyed her mother and while she would be polite to the girl in front of her, they would never be friends. "You must be the daughter of Kyung Wan Cha; pardon my pronunciation."

Airlia straightened her back and took a step backward. Being impolite and unfriendly was not in her nature and she wanted to escape the situation as quickly as possible before she actually would end up thinking this girl was nice.

Yeji couldn't help but chuckle at Airlia's pronunciation, but after a few moments she responded in a rather exciting and cutesy tone: "That's correct!" However, Yeji was rather worried and curious about how Airlia knew her mother. She figured it might be of a similar reason as to how she herself knew: Airlia was informed by her mother, Elora, just as Yeji was informed by her own mother. Yeji wondered what the relationship between the two mothers was about. Her own mother seemed rather annoyed with this Elora Winter, and it seemed the feeling was deep considering she was essentially told to avoid Airlia.

Curious to know, Yeji wondered if Airlia knew what was going on. Airlia seemed to know more about the situation since she was able to deduce Yeji's relationship with her mother. "Do you know what's going on between our mothers? I'm unsure of yours, but my mother seemed rather weary with you and your mom." Yeji hoped the situation was nothing too serious, for Airlia didn't seem to be a bad person, so far at least.

In the worst-case scenario, Airlia's mother had done something to wrong her own mother. Though she didn't get to see her often, Yeji adored her mother; she would be furious to know someone committed a wrong-doing to her.

Airlia watched the girl with weary eyes. For once in her life, she decided to be vigilant. To put into works everything her mother had taught her and actually act smart. Now was not the time to make a friend or be a lovable goofball of a girl. Now she should act cold and make sure to hold her family's honor to her heart.

She was dead certain that the fight between the two mothers would not have been Elora's fault. Sure the woman was strict, had ancient values and could bite back when threatened, but she was also poised and filed to perfection. Her mother simply didn't make such mistakes like creating enemies or making rifts between herself and her friends. The woman wasn't that stupid.

So surely it must have started from the other end of the two friends.

A soft voice nagged in the back of Airlia's head that the other girl must think the same about her own mother and blame the other. Who would prosecute their own mother after all? Something soft alongside that small voice of understanding also whispered that neither she nor the girl in front of her had known their mother when they were young, foolish and most likely hard-headed. There simply was no way to tell who's nature it was to start a family war.

"I admit I do not know." Airlia said as she used her voice like a princess from victorian times, perfect and well punctuated with the speech of old English. "However, my mother had brought to my attention that the rift between our families was not her fault. So I do suppose you'd do well to know."

Airlia's statement left a bad taste in Yeji's mouth, though Yeji didn't quite realize why at first. "Does she mean it's 엄마의 Mom's fault?" she thought to herself. However, Yeji was certain it couldn't have been her mom's fault. For starters, her mother had not a drop of rudeness or evil in her body; she did marry a muggle despite her being a pure-blood. Secondly, she worked in magical law enforcement; it is literally a part of her job to uphold the peace, so why would she try and start trouble with a pure-blooded family?

The sudden change of tone Airlia had also bothered Yeji. It wasn't necessarily rude, but it gave her the impression that the girl was showing off; the reason being that Airlia was not speaking that way beforehand. The last sentence irked Yeji as well as if Airlia was attempting to belittle her. Yeji placed her right hand on her hip, "Well I know it wasn't my mom's fault," She took a pause, and with a mocking tone she continued: "So I do suppose you'd do well to know." A smile appeared on her face as she flamboyantly whipped her head around to fix her her hair.

Airlia let out a chuckle that sounded condescending despite the fact that she hadn't intended it to be so. This girl was peacocking, to her. That wouldn't go past her unnoted.

"Then are you suggesting that the fault was in mine?" She asked, her voice monotoning with a slight edge of defiance in it. "I am quite certain it can not be. You see, my mother doesn't start petty fights but-" Airlia seized for a second as she looked at the girl from her head to her toes, undermining her tone: "-I am sure yours might."

This seemed to be turning ugly really fast and it almost halted Airlia in her words. But she was defending her family's honor here and she wouldn't just allow this girl to tow over her family.

So she stood her ground, chuckled as she watched the girl's reaction and kept her posture strong. She could already feel this would not end well. They were extending an old family fight to their generation which was not smart at all. They would do well to patch things up right here, but neither girl seemed willing to stand down and this was no longer in the stage of niceties.

It was apparent that this conversation was heading south, quickly. Yeji was irritated with Airlia's chuckle, "어떻게 누군가가 예의는 있지만 그렇게 무례하게 행동할 수 있을까?""How can someone act proper but be so rude?" Yeji was furious to hear the girl's remark, for no one was going to refer to her mother that way. She was going to get her revenge.

Yeji was very quick-witted, and she was not the type to stand down from another. "Well, I know that my mother doesn't start petty fights either, and I'm unsure about yours." Yeji couldn't help but smile even more as she thought about the next thing she was going to say: "Even if my mom was the one who started it, at least she was brave enough to start it. I'm unsure what house your mother is in, but she is probably a coward if you're in Hufflepuff. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and in this case, that would mean your mother is like you." Yeji spoke very disrespectfully, and she was still not done speaking. "Maybe your mom is scared and jealous. That is probably why she seemed to talk to you more about it." Her tone seemed more laid-back, as she tried to act like she seemed to not care for Airlia.

Confidence was Yeji's strong suit, and she was most definitely feeling confident. She usually never acts this way, especially to strangers, but she wasn't going to just allow someone to speak about her mother negatively. Yeji had a strong sense of pride in her family, believing that there was no better family out there.
