That morning Airlia was up bright and early. She happily brushed her hair to perfection, allowing it to wave over her shoulders and down her back naturally. She brushed her teeth and put sunscreen on just in case she'd have to go outside that day. She put on her school uniform and took her book bag, packing it with everything she would need for the upcoming school day.

Nothing could shake down her mood as she'd slept peacefully and well, seeing sweet dreams of a palace on top of pastel pink clouds.

Her steps had a certain urgency to them. Happy or not she'd woken up hungry and wanted to go to the great hall to eat as soon as possible. None of her dorm roommates were up yet so she asked to join a Gryffindorfriend of hers she bumped into on the way. And that's how she ended up at the Gryffindor table while the Hufflepuff one was empty, while the badgers were peacefully sleeping in.

She ended up spending a moderately long time in the Gryffindor table. She ate slowly, happy to chat with the brave Gryffindors telling her tales of their achievements and courageous adventures in the corridors after curfew.

She didn't have many stories like that herself as her second year had been quite drama free so far. Something she was grateful for.

Sure like most people Airlia did feel a burn in her for adventures. She wanted to discover new things and seek out treasures, but she didn't want to risk her health or education for that. And as such her dangerous ventures had been cut short.

When a new Gryffindor joined them at the table Airlia politely smiled, allowing the other to settle down before introducing herself. However, her plan was cut short when the student began to eat.

Galton had awoken rather suddenly. His cat, Toad, pawed at his nose, which was hanging over the side of the bed. Galton always awoke in a drastically different position then normally, and even more following October. But Galton was lucky today, no dreams to remember, and only the burning hunger that began every morning once his eyes opened.

He threw on a pair of pants and a shirt. Color, cleanliness and fashion didn’t matter much today. He’d have a robe over them anyway. And so he took on his usual class robe. The ultimate concealer of secrets. A true essential for a boy to get ready in under 3 minutes. Now for breakfast.

The most important meal of the day, only tied by the other two, was not something you wanted to be late for. If you were late all of the good bread and cereal would be gone. So he would hurry down. Many housemates already there, he had some things to make up for.

Hurried steps turned into a quick mounting of the tables bench, and a quick collection of the necessary foods for a balances breakfast. As soon as the first slice of toast touched his plate, it was in his mouth. Then followed a bowl of oatmeal, which was mixed in every other bite of toast, and finally one whole boiled egg.

He slowed down from the other foods to examine the egg. It was luckily lacking a shell. So it would be possible for Mr. Lansdale to pop the whole egg in his greedy mouth and start chewing, mouth agape every so often. Just then he saw a new face, someone he wasn’t familiar with. He smiled at her, pieces of chewed egg caking a few of his exposed teeth.

Airlia watched eyes wide as the boy that had just joined shoved food into his mouth as if it was a trashcan. She watched him engulf -because you couldn't really call it eating- a plate of porridge while shoving toast into his mouth simultaneously.

Airlia had never seen anyone eat like this. His mouth was open from time to time and the sight made Airlia cringed internally while trying to mask her shock and quite frankly utter disgust on the outside.

She stopped slicing the green apple she'd chosen to eat for breakfast and just stared. She was quickly losing her appetite.

When he ate an egg she was on the verge of believing that he would have eaten it, shells and all if it hadn't been already peeled.

The boy did look kind. He had dark hair and big eyes and when he smiled at her she saw nothing but kindness... And the egg he'd chewed stuck in his teeth and some dropping from his mouth to the table.

"I am Airlia Winter. Pleased to meet you." She mumbled after a moment, not offering a handshake since she was pretty sure the boy hadn't washed his hands before coming to breakfast. She was really hoping that somewhere deep inside the boy had some manners and he would be able to dig them up and actually chew with his mouth closed and eat at a sensible speed.

Airlia. What a name. Galton couldn’t quite put on what peaked his interest about the name but there was something just... fun about it. “Airlia! Air-li-a? A-ri-lia? Airlia.” Galton player with the name on his tongue, egg bits flowing from one cheek to the other as he did. He smiled back at the girl.

“I’m Galton Lansdale. Pleased to-“ he paused. A particularly delectable looking pastry caught his eye mid sentence. And, if you were worth your salt, you knew you had to act quick in the ruthless arena that was the hogwarts great hall. He plucked the pastry, took a bite and continued “Pleased to meet you too!”

As the word “too” came out of his mouth a piece of pastry dropped from his agape jaw, only to be caught by one of the boys hands, and quickly tossed back into the grinding mess that was Galton’s mouth. He couldn’t let anything go to waste, that would be rude to the cooks. And Galton didn’t want to be rude.

And then Galton eyed Airlia’s Apple. It looked delicious. And it seemed to be the last apple for the time being. Maybe they’d get restocked, or maybe they wouldn’t. But Galton didn’t want to take a chance. He needed to make a good deal to get a slice, so he’d have to pull out all of the stops.

“Hey! Would you wanna maybe trade me a slice of your apple for a bite of this pastry? It tastes like cherry! It’s really good I promise.” He held out a half mauled pastry to the girl, hoping she’d accept the offer.

Airlia was in a trance-like state watching the boy. He was the messiest slob she'd ever seen. In fact, she was surprised his robe was clean and that he smelled surprisingly nice. Not nasty like she'd predicted.

When he kept repeating her name like a mantra she hated the British pronunciation of her name for the first time. It had never bothered her how the Brits said her name so perhaps it was the way she could see the egg jolting in his mouth when he spoke that made her hate how he said her name.

The boy was soon basically spitting out pastry as he spoke and Airlia was utterly flabbergasted that no one else seemed to be appalled by his display of slobbering down his breakfast.

And then he did something unforgivable. He pushed a half-eaten piece of pasty towards her face; offering her a piece in exchange for some of her apple. She stared wide eyes and shook her head: "Have the whole apple." She said, not willing to take the risk of getting some decease from putting something in her mouth that had already been touched by his.

She pushed her plate with apple slices toward him and leaned back to get further away from his outstretched hand.

"If I may make a suggestion in eating the apple, maybe do so with your mouth closed... And not talk until after you've swallowed." There a strong tint in her voice that was usually reserved for sarcastic remarks, but she very much meant what she'd said, thinking the boy would just thank her for teaching him table side manners and continue eating in a more gentlemanly manner. He knew the pastry would be too good to pass up. This girl obviously knew her baked goods. Or had it been Galton’s charming smile? Jurgen always said he was slick, so it could have been the combo of dashing and delicious sweets. Whatever it was, Galton’s mouth began salivating as he eyed up the new apple, the deal had been so good, or Airlia was just so nice, that all of it was his, ripe for the picking.

Airlia continued on, and began talking about how he should eat? His face twisted into a puzzled look, arm retracting back to his place with the green apple, which he’d swapped out with the pastry. He looked the golden cake over one last time, as he left it resting near Airlia’s plate. She had to be kidding with all this “talk after you eat” stuff, right? Not only nice, she was funny. The tone though, as she continued, sounded much more serious then what he would expect a joke to be delivered with.

Sarcasm! Galton had been talking about it with a classmate. It was when you said something totally serious, but it didn’t really mean that, even if it sounded like it. Genius, so young and she already sounded so convincing. It was enough to drive Galton wild!

He began laughing, he tried to control the laugh, and swallow the remaining food in between giggles. “Thanks! That’s like-“ he paused, and bit into the Apple, then continued. “Like, the best impression of my mom I’ve ever heard.” He chewed the fresh apple with haste, excited to go for another bite. But he stopped, apple in hand, and used one finger to point at the pastry. His tone changed when he addressed her this time. “Make sure you eat all of it, it’s the best one.” It was serious, it may have been a fair trade, but he wouldn’t see any of the pastry go to waste, it was too good for that. Then he bit back into the apple, and winked (the wink looked very forced, far from any sense of the word smooth).

Airlia looked on in horror as the boy kept laughing; with food inside her mouth despite the fact that she'd asked him to swallow first.

She felt offended and ridiculed. And the boy still pressed the piece of pastry close to her when she clearly stated; she didn't want it.

It felt like he was laughing at her, not with her and Airlia felt hurt and annoyed by the boy's continuous rude behavior. She really liked Gryffindors but she had a nagging feeling that she might never like this one. Sloppy and unrefined as he was.

"I was not kidding. Nor was I doing an impression whatever that is."

She watched the boy pointing at the pastry and straightened her back deciding to keep her ground on this: "And I will not touch that pastry for I would rather starve." She looked at the pastry in disdain. The boy hadn't even taken proper bites, just shoved it into his mouth as he went. "In fact eating it might just kill me faster than starvation."

Airlia usually wasn't like this. She didn't make rude remarks or look at others like they were lesser. She was silent about bad habits despite the fact that hers were near impeccable and accepted others as they were. But the boy had gone too far seemingly just for the spite of it. To be disgusting. And it was too much.

Galton was on the verge of tears. What had poor little Lansdale done to cause such passionate hatred come out of his new acquaintance? He felt the first tear well up in his right eye, he couldn’t hold it in. He let out a big laugh, she was either a genius actor, or actually mad that he had... eaten? Either way, it was too funny not to laugh.

He only let the laugh go, and then shut it back up, just enough to get it out of his system but not enough to be too rude. He wiped the tear away from his eye with a sticky finger. If you looked close enough you’d see the snail trail it had left behind right under his eye. Probably just wetness from the apple, or maybe it was some of the pastry’s gelatinous filling.

He turned his attention back to her. “It’s okay you know, our parents aren’t watching, you’ll be okay.” He playfully said to the girl. But then he thought about what she’d said. What she had meant. Insulting his choice of pastry, and the poor house elf cooks!

And so his plan was hatched and launched, all in mere milliseconds. Galton wasn’t one for hesitation, and so his hand went to the bowl of oatmeal. He ran a finger along the bottom, collecting a few of the larger globs of oats on his finger. He plucked it out and examined it, squinting to make sure it was just right. It was.

In one fluid motion Galton flicked the oatmeal booger at Airlia. Let’s see how the manner Queen liked a little mess.

When a disgusting slippery mess hit her below her left eye and started running down her cheek Airlia's jaw dropped in shock. This messy bad-mannered boy had not just thrown oatmeal into her face.

But indeed as she took her handkerchief from her pocket and wiped it off her face the gooey mess was revealed to her and she sent a stormy look to the boy. How dare he?!

While the boy had first had tears prickling in his eyes he now looked content and proud of his actions.

"What do you think you are doing?" Airlia asked, with anger in her voice. She rarely got riled up. She preferred to be kind and graceful, not annoyed and covered in porridge.

She threw the handkerchief on the table with her initials inscribed in it with golden thread, her anger boiling as she knew she wouldn't use it again and would have to ask for a new one from home. A proper lady always has one with her and never has to use it to rub the food of her face. Especially one that was someone between a liquid and lumpy texture.

"You can not treat me this way." Airlia lifted her head and looked at the boy. He simply didn't have the brain to learn manners apparently. Perhaps he was never taught manners, but if something had they had done a very poor job or perhaps the boy was just too much of a slob to care if he disgusted others around with his poor habits. What was Galton doing? Maybe the oatmeal had been uncalled for, even if justified, but her cluelessness to her insults wasn’t going to fool Galton. Most kids were smart here, no way she could be so blind. Either she was born with a stick lodged somewhere unpleasant, or she just hated Galton’s cute face.

Then, came the best part. “You can’t treat me this way.”

She really was playing the victim here. Like she hadn’t sat down at his table, bugged him, rejected his kind offer! Galton has given her a handful of chances and she just threw it in his face... Well, maybe Galton had done the throwing, but metaphorically she had.

“I’m just trying to eat! And enjoy my morning. I’m not the one who doesn’t like fun.” His words rushing forward, the aura around him full of confidence. “You could have just said no to my offer!” He followed up the statement with an exposed tongue, taunting the girl, a few unchewed oats still clinging to the wet, red tongue.

Galton didn’t know what to do now. He had stuck his tongue out, thrown a bit of food, retorted her stupid questions, all he could think of adding was a little water spit near her, but that seemed much too drastic. So Galton would stick his tongue out again, nothing was more mature.
