Dear Eflamm Fustec,
Greetings from my little corner of the world. I hope this letter finds you in good health and even better spirits! I’m super excited to be writing to someone new—especially someone who also enjoys writing. It’s kind of cool how we can connect through letters, even if we’ve never met in person.
Let me introduce myself: I’m Isabella Bernard. You can call me Izzy! That's what everyone calls me. Or if you would want to give me another nickname - I wouldn't mind that either. I'm a first year Gryffindor who LOVES music, reading fantasy novels especially crime novels, and trying random snack combos (Vanilla Ice cream and French Fries? A+). I wouldn’t say I’m overly adventurous, but I’m curious about a lot of things, especially how people live in different places.
You're from Beauxbatons, right? How do things work over there? I know it's another magic school somewhere around France. I LOVE the French accent and I've been practicing it recently. I also love the way French people do ballet. It's very pretty.
Do you like writing just for fun, or are you more into journaling or storytelling? I’ve been trying to improve my vocabulary, so this is a great way to practice. My favorite word right now is serendipity—it sounds magical, don’t you think? Also, what’s your favorite season? I’m all about monsoon—cool breeze, petichor, and hoodie weather. Total vibe.
I have to go! The dinner feast is starting soon and I'm really hungry so I can't miss it. I hope to write to you again soon. Waiting for your reply!
Yours eagerly,
Isabella Bernard

Dear Isabella,
I figured I could call you Izzy when I get to know you better. I hope you don't find it rude or something. How are you, in England ? I heard the weather isn't so good there. I'm really glad we can exchange letters too, I think discussing by writing is a better way than speaking, what about you ?
I will introduce myself too, then. My name is Eflamm Fustec. Don't be amazed by the fact I can speak English, my aunt lives in Ireland so I've learned the language since I'm little. I am a second year in Beauxbatons. I like music too, I love playing the guitar when I've got one near me. Crime novels are also something I'm found of. What's better than playing the detective ? I also love potions, like really. I used to (I still do) watch my grandparents concocting potions, and it is now my favorite subject at school. By the way, no offense, but I think ice cream and fries shouldn't be a mix.
Beauxbatons is a beautiful school, of course, but I find it boring. We do not have houses, like you do at Hogwarts, and we're all dressed with ridiculous light blue uniforms. I can tell you more about it if you want. But I actually wished I had gone to Hogwarts. Life here sounds better than at Beauxbatons. And there is also my cousin here, I don't know if you have heard about a Dove Cullen, she's in Ravenclaw, and also in second year. Even if I know lots about Hogwarts, can you tell me what you think of it ? How is your first year there going on ?
I actually do not write that much. I just love parchments, its smell, and all the vibe around it. But it doesn't mean I don't like writing too. It's another way of expressing feelings, and here to meet new people. It's nice and interesting.
It's indeed a beautiful word, with a beautiful meaning. I don't think I have a favorite word, although I do like all the nature and love vocabulary.
I love cold seasons. Where we're all closed into our houses, with rain, or wind kicking the windows while we are doing what we want inside. It's a real mood.
Now, my time to ask questions. Even if I already asked some before. What are your favorite subjects at school ? This is not a boring question, it's to see if we have some more common points. I already told you I liked potions, but I also like learning spells, and playing Quidditch. The rest is boring. How do you find Gryffindor ? I've heard it's a house for the brave.
My time to go, now. I should go to bed, or I will have get problems. I hope I will hear about you soon. Prend soin de toi. (take care)

Dear Eflamm,
Alright, I’ll let you hold off on “Izzy” for now… but I’m curious what nickname you might come up with. Make it a good one! Things at Hogwarts are going well. The weather’s been super moody lately—mist covering the Great Lake and chilly winds. It’s perfect for curling up by the common room fire with a good book (or sneaking snacks from the kitchens...Not that I’d ever do that because I'm an absolute angel).
You play guitar?! That’s so cool! I tried the violin once...Let’s just say the violin did not survive. I think it’s sweet that you love potions - your grandparents sound amazing. I wish I had someone to teach me extra stuff. Potions and I have an interesting love-hate thing going on right now.
Gryffindor is chaotic, loud, and full of energy. I wasn’t sure I belonged at first considering I'm a very lethargic person despite having a golden retriever personality and being an extrovert. But now? It kind of feels like home. I love Defense Against the Dark Arts and Astronomy!
Beauxbatons sounds fancy! Light blue uniforms? Sounds like something out of a fashion show. Light blue suits my complexion really well. Wish I had your classy uniform instead of these robes! I’d love to hear more about what your days are like there.
Write soon,
Izzy (unless you've got a nickname idea!)

Dear Isabella,
Don't worry, I will come with a suited nickname for you once I get to know you better. Maybe I will find one for the third letter I will send to you. This will add a little bit of a suspense. The weather you are describing sounds very charming, and looks nothing like here in France. It is actually not that freezing, and can still walk outside with a simple jacket instead of a winter coat. (I wish I could steal some things in the kitchen, but I know I will get into serious trouble. They are not that funny in Beauxbatons...)
Violin looks like a particularly difficult instrument to play. I'm amazed you at least tried, I could not. I you want, I can try to answer to some of your questions you have about potions. I won't be that easy by letter but... We can try.
Even with your words I can see you are a joyful person. I have no doubt you belong to Gryffinfor, even if I still don't know you that well. Defense against the dark arts ? Nice choice. Astronomy ? I do not see the point of it but... It's nice if you like it.
Everyone imagines Beauxbatons as the fancy school, but I wished it was not. You say Hogwarts sounds like home, Beauxbatons doesn't. I wish that it will one day, but for now, it only feel like school. It's too far away from my family. My days are always repeting themselves : I wake up, eat, study, eat, study, sleep. My guitar's not with me, and I don't know the quidditch team well enough to be part of it.
Anyway, I don't want you to feel bad for me. Writing to you makes me escape this "routine", it's really good.
Hope you're good,
Eflamm

Dear Eflamm Fustec,
A nickname in the third letter? Now you’ve got me intrigued. Suspense really does suit you, doesn’t it? You’d make a good detective with all your mystery and potions expertise. I’ll be waiting.
I think you underestimate yourself. I bet you could play violin if you gave it a try! But if you say it’s too difficult, maybe I’ll just sit and listen to you play guitar one day instead. Letters can’t carry music, but you can at least tell me what kind of songs you like to play. I’m very curious.
And don’t worry. I don’t think your routine sounds boring. It sounds…safe AND steady. But I do get how it must feel lonely sometimes, especially without your guitar or Quidditch. That stinks. Still, I think you’re stronger than you realize, sticking through it. Besides, now you’ve got me writing to you, and I plan to keep you very distracted from your dull days. Consider me your personal chaos correspondent from Hogwarts.
Also, I have questions! If Beauxbatons is all uniforms and order, how do students show their personalities? At Hogwarts, people charm their scarves or put weird badges on their bags. I saw a Hufflepuff yesterday whose robes kept flashing between neon pink and yellow—it was horrifying and amazing. Do you all just… sparkle with natural French elegance instead?
As for Astronomy...Okay, maybe it’s not as practical as Potions, but there’s something magical about looking up and realizing the stars we’re studying are the same ones you’re seeing in France. Feels like a quiet connection across the world. Kind of like these letters, don’t you think? Write back soon! I’ll be waiting!
Yours chaos,
Isabella Bernard

Dear Isabella,
I guess I should take that as a compliment... Let's say I've never thought of being a detective, but after all why not ? We could make a great team. I make the potions, to help us find the criminals, and we could use your DADA talents if we need to confront them. Sounds good, what do you think ? And... Well I'm sure we can find a use to Astronomy for our investigations, but you'd be a great partner don't worry. (I am laughing while writing this, it doesn't happen very often, take that as a compliment).
I could try to play the violin, sure... but it's too "classical" for me. I like to play noisy sounds, something muggles call "metal". My parents don't like it, they often cast spells on my guitar so it cannot make any noise. It's not fair that I can't use magic at home. But, I guess I understand them.
Your words are very kind. You say you're chaotic (which I have no doubt about it of course) but still I think, well I don't know. You seem like a patient person, here for people. Look, you're conforting a person you've written only three letters to. It says a lot.
Hogwarts sounds so free. Some people, here at Beauxbatons express themselves like the Hufflepuff you saw, but they're rare. I wish I was as brave as them to style my uniform, but no. Most students stay in light blue, and white. I'm afraid to say some students could be mean to anyone who shows their personality through their clothes. This is a big subject to talk about, I'm not sure I'm quite qualified to talk about it unfortunatly.
I've actually never thought of stars this way, I think I might stay up later tonight to contemplate them, maybe I will find Astronomy "interesting" (I'm not sure about it though). How have you realised you liked stars ? Only because you love to watch them or is there a more significant reason ?
Though, I think I'm not that surprised you like them. Space, stars and all mean the unknown, the fascinating. It suits you. Because of course, I still do not know you that well. But knowing you love Astronomy gives me a big hint.
I hope we'll see eachother for real on day, Space girl.
(P.S. Bernard is a French name. D'you have any French family by any chance ?)
I look at the stars tonight, do the same,
Eflamm

Dear Eflamm Fustec,
I love the idea of us working as a detective team! You brewing potions to help find criminals, and me using my Defense Against the Dark Arts skills to face them sounds like an amazing plan. I’m sure Astronomy can help us too. Maybe we could track people by the stars or use the moon’s phases for timing. It’s exciting to think about all the ways magic and stars could work together!
Your story about playing metal on the guitar made me smile. It’s so different from what I’m used to, but I think it’s really cool that you have your own style. I understand why your parents don’t like it, but it’s a shame they stop you with spells. You should be able to express yourself freely, even with music.
Thank you for your kind words about me. I don’t always feel patient, but I do try to be someone others can trust. Sometimes writing helps me open up more than talking face to face. It’s sad that some students at Beauxbatons aren’t kind about clothes and personality. I think being yourself is brave, no matter what you wear.
About stars, I love looking at them because they remind me how big the world is and how much there is to discover. It makes me feel hopeful and curious. I hope one day we meet for real, Eflamm, and maybe solve some mysteries together.
(P.S. Bernard is a French name? Maybe I have some French family I don’t know about!)
Yours eagerly,
Isabella Bernard

Dear Space Girl,
I'm glad you love the idea. And yes, I think we can work with stars in the way you said, it sounds amazing (and quite nice to find people we're tracking).
Of course, I can play other music styles than metal. I usually do so to force my parents to undo their spell, but I can sometimes play softer songs on my own. If we get the chance to meet, I could play you some songs. What do you usually like to listen by the way ?
I am going to confess to you : you're the first person, other than family, that I trust this easily. I am not usually interested in making friends or things like that, but I do like you. I am happy we started writing to each others.
Now, when I look at the stars, I think of you looking at the same. I am sure we will see each other some day. Don't know when, but I believe it. Soon or late, as long as I get to speak to you with my voice rather than words, I don't care.
PS : And yes, Bernard is French. Maybe ask your family if they know some French ancestors, it could be fun.
See you soon I hope,
Eflamm
